AIX OS upgrade Q

I was able to find a compatibility document for what version of AIX 6.1 is certified with what versions of Oracle but I'm having a little trouble interpreting. Below is copied from said document:
Oracle 10gR2 is Certified/Supported on IBM AIX 6.1 (64-bit)
Operating System requirements on AIX 6L for 10gR2 are:
AIX version 6.1, 64-bit kernel is supported with service pack 01 (6100-00-01) or later
Installing on AIX 6L requires the following installations:
- Oracle patch 6613550
- Oracle Database 10g release 2 (10.2.0.1)
- Oracle Database patch set 10g release 2 (10.2.0.3)
We are currently at version 10gR2 (10.2.0.4.0) –so can I safely assume that patch 6613550 is rolled-up into 10.2.0.4 and that no work is required to prepare Oracle for the AIX upgrade?

    Hi,
    Thanks for the INPUTS.
Based on your inputs, came to know from service market (PAM) that Oracle 8.1.7 is not supported on AIX 5.3.
Our Current setup is SAP R/3 46C Oracle 8.1.7 on Solaris 8. For SAP Upgrade we have planned for IBM  AIX 5.3 for ECC6.0 .
Kindly suggest in detail how to go about for Migration of SAP 46C from Solaris to AIX and Upgrade from SAP R/3 46C to ECC 6.0 on Oracle Database
    Please suggest at the earliest.

  • Hig Log file sync waits on DG environment.

    Hi All,
Experiencing a high number of "log file sync" waits on primary after AIX OS upgrade to 6.1 and
changed storage from EMC DMX storage to EMC VMAX storage on primary. SA's says EMC checked out the
storage and it is showing faster response time than the old DMX storage.
Not made any app changes and have been running fine for years on 10.2.0.3 just befor upgrade.
    Research:
Every time primary database has to write redo from the log buffer to the online redolog files, the user session
waits on "log file sync" wait event while waiting for LGWR to post it back to confirm all redo changes are safely
on disk, however when the primary database also has a standby DB and the log shipping is using "LGWR SYNC AFFIRM"
means that user sessions not only has to wait for the local write to the online redologs, but also wait for the
write to the SRL on the standby DB, so every delay in getting a complete write response from the standby will
be seen in the primary as an "log file sync" wait event even if the local write to the ORL has completed already
After AWRs from primary(DB1ABRN_regy_AWR_20110802_1400_3.html)thre is not much to pinpoint except:
    i) DG is configured to use 'LGWR SYNC AFFIRM'(customer can't switch to standby "ARCH SYNC NOAFFIRM" for critical application support).
ii) Upgraded the OS to 6.1 and changed their storage on primary *** Standby DB storage is still using slow one.
In DG there are several components like transport network, IO on the standby etc that can feed back to primary "log file sync" wait events that are seen.
    Question we have is:
What is the best way to  trace/query information from the standby side to identify its contribution to the high log file synch wait on the primary ?

There an Oracle support note on this :
WAITEVENT: "log file sync" Reference Note [ID 34592.1]
While it does not address trace it does have a Data Guard section.
Also this Oracle support note may help :
    Troubleshooting I/O-related waits [ID 223117.1]
    Best Regards

  • Listener getting hanged, its not starting

    Hi Team,
after  AIX team upgraded from TL4 to TL8, the listener is not starting. The database was started sucessfully. any ideas why the listener is not starting.
    OS: AIX 6, TL8
    Oracle : 10gR2 (10.2.0.3)

  • Require Detail Information for Upgrading 9.2.0.5 to 11.1.0.7 on AIX

    Dear Masters .
Please can any one help me regarding the Up gradation..
We had RAC Production database with version 9.2.0.5 with HACMP cluster on Aix 5.1 (64bit) i want to Upgrade Rac Database with 11.1.0.7 version on New servers of AIX 5.3(64 bit) HACMP P5 series server .
please Let me know or proved me with some valuable documents that will help me in this upgrade .

    Hello,
To upgrade from 9.2 to 11.1 it can be done by export/import straightly and it's cross plateform.
But export/import can be long if your database is rather large (> 100 GB).
Else, if you want to use other migration technique as Transportable Tablespace you must care on the
Plateform compatibility and, it seems to me that plateform compatibilty is possible starting with 10g.
I'm not an AIX expert and, I'm not sure that datafiles in AIX 5.1 are compatible with AIX 5.3 even in
    Oracle 9.2.
The problem is that neither Oracle 11.1 nor an intermediate release (10.1 or 10.2) are certified on AIX 5.1.
So you'll have to change Oracle Release and Plateform version in one step. Export/Import seems to me safer
    in this kind of situation.
    Best regards,
    Jean-Valentin

All of the steps are documented in the Upgrade Guide - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e23633/toc.htm
To upgrade directly (using DBUA or scripts) to 11gR2, you need to be at 9.2.0.8 version.

  • BI 4.1 Upgrade from BI 4.0 - MOBIServer web application is missing on AIX platform

    Hello BI Technical Experts,
Recently, I have upgraded our BI environment from BI 4.0 SP05 Patch 06 to BI 4.1 SP03 Patch02 successfully. As per the BI 4.1 technical documentation the BI Mobile Server on the web application server (Tomcat 7) should have been deployed automatically but we are missing this in all our environments, looks like upgrading to BI 4.1 does not install MOBIServer automatically.
    Technical Details:
From 4.1 Mobile Feature is available for AIX as well!
    OS: AIX, DB: Oracle 11g
I would like to know if there is a way to run the setup.sh from the install directory in custom installation mode to modify the BI server platform to select Mobile Server under web application? I could not find this information anywhere in the SAP's knowledge base nor in the internet. I found how to do this operation in Windows and looks pretty simple but I am not getting the same wizard to choose the option when I run the setup.sh, it directly takes me to uninstallation step!!
Any input is much appreciated! This is holding our mobility project.
    Thanks,
    S Sumanth GV
This is the mobile application in CMC post upgrade. But I am missing the web application on top of tomcat.
Missing MOBIServer under warfiles and tomcat locations:

    Hi Denis,
Thank you for taking your time to answer my concerns. However, I have tried running modifyOrRemoveProducts.sh from the install location but I did not get modify option to choose like you get in Windows. It just lists the installed products and add-ons and allows me to choose any one of those, if I select any of the BI Platform Server base components it directly takes me to the un-installation step. I ran the script just to show whats happening at my server for you to show.
Based on the product I select and once I click on continue then it will execute the following setupexe command which ultimately take me to the un-install step.
I am not sure which crucial step I am missing here?
    Thanks in advance,
    S Sumanth GV

  • PHP upgrade to v5 in 10gASR2 on AIX

What is the best way to upgrade to PHP v5 inside a 10gASR2 installation on AIX 5.3 (PHP v4.3.9 came with the 10gASR2 install)? I took a look at the Zend Core and it looks like it must be installed as root, where our current 10gASR2 install is owned by a user id without root privileges. I would want to use the 10gASR2 Apache and just upgrade PHP.
    Thanks - Gene

ZCO installs as root because it puts its files in /usr/local. This
should not affect its use with AS.
    Otherwise, see http://blogs.oracle.com/opal/2007/06/01#a131

    AIX 64 Bit
    Oracle 11gR2 - 11.2.0.3
As part of the 11gR2 install, you are asked to select DBA and DBOPER owners. How is this determined/verified selected properly?
Also, migrating DB's: Ran the dbupgdiag.sql and utlu112i_3.sql
Should we enable 11.2 listener first?
    or
Should we migrate all DB's, then do listener or can we try one DB with new listener then move the rest and then change to the 11.2.0.3 LSNR?
Is there a best practice here?

    Hi;
As part of the 11gR2 install, you are asked to select DBA and DBOPER owners. How is this determined/verified selected properly? Its already mention at installation guide. What is purpose of those groups, what you should choose etc.
Also, migrating DB's: Ran the dbupgdiag.sql and utlu112i_3.sql
Should we enable 11.2 listener first?
    or
Should we migrate all DB's, then do listener or can we try one DB with new listener then move the rest and then change to the 11.2.0.3 LSNR?You should go wiht first db upgrade. Than you can go wiht listener. As suggestion here by orafad that issue is related wiht db upgrade soo make post on related forum site

  • Errors Upgrading 904 Middle Tier to 10.1.2.0.2 on AIX

    Hi,
I am trying to upgrade our 9.0.4.1 AS Middle Tier on an AIX host to version 10.1.2.0.2. The plan is to eventually get to AS 10.1.2.3.
I successfully created a new 10.1.2.0.2 Middle Tier home for the upgrade, and kicked off the Oracle AS Upgrade Assistant -GUI Version- to start the upgrade.
Everything else looks okay except that the Oracle Containers for J2EE component failed during Examination. I see "*ADMN-705002*" error in the iasua.log file. All other components passed the Examination.
It does not look like we are having any compliance issues identified in the "4.5.1.3 Reasons for Oracle Application Server Containers for J2EE Upgrade and Deployment Failures" section of the Upgrade and Compatibility Guide.
Has anyone perfomed a similar upgrade from version 9.0.4.1 to version 10.1.2.*? Did you encounter a similar problem during your upgrade? If so, what was the resolution?
What other pitfalls can you warn me about since I still have an upgrade of the corresponding Infrastructure to perform after the middle tier upgrade?
Plus we have in the plans a Portal 10.1.4 upgrade before the AS 10.1.2.3 patch. With respect to that, do we have to have our Infrastructure upgrade to 10.1.2.0.2 complete before upgrading Portal to 10.1.4?
Or can we upgrade Portal to 10.1.4 with a 10.1.2.0.2 Middle Tier and a 9.0.4.1 Infrastructure?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.
    CV

Oracle helped me figure the problem out. The ORA_NLS33 env variable had to be unset before starting up the Upgrade Assistant.
After that upgrade assistant finished successfully.
