Aja IO and sony dsr 11

Will the AJA IO work with Sony dsr11 deck? Which is only firewire and no RS 422 connection.
pls for uncompressed video do i need to buy another deck?
thanks
sameer

Don't use the IO. Capture as DV/NTSC via firewire, and when you lock your cut, simply drop it into an uncompressed timeline and render. You gain nothing by capturing DV as uncompressed...it only helps titles and stills in the timeline.
But if you capture then render, it will look the same and save you drive space. Then you can output to the format you need to...like digibeta.

  • AJA IOLA and fire wire

I'm confused. I am setting up a FCP system on a brand new G5 dual 2.7 gHz with a 375 GB hard drive. I am using an AJA IO LD for input. From what I read, I can't digitize to the internal hard drive if the AJA is also using this hard drive (which sort of seems like a waste of 300 GB of perfectly fine space). I will be using a DVCam DSR 80 and a Sony Beta UVW 1800? as component input sources. Can I digitize to an EXTERNAL 7200 RPM Firewire hard drive?

    Ronnie,
I do have an extra firewire card - but its a recent extra to my system to simply increase the number of my firewire sockets.
I've been using the AJA with the standard sockets for about a year with no problems, (observing the AJA / video deck thing that I mentioned in my previous post.)
As to running the AJA with Firewire video decks / cameras:
I've had conflicting advice as to whether a PCI card for extra firewire sockets helps with firewire conflicts when using the AJA and a firewire video deck.
Some have said that the 400 and 800 sockets are on independent busses but again others have said that it may still get confused.
Some say that the PCI card is on a completely different buss and so will not be confused with firewire connections on the actual Mac, others disagree.
I prefer to avoid conflicts, (my life is complicated enough and I like to keep my edit suite in a friendly mood...) so I just run the AJA or the firewire DSR-11 deck.
As to normal editing once the material is digitised, then feel free to run your AJA on a 400 port and a drive on either a 400 or 800 port.

  • Sony DSR-25 not found with FCP 5.1.2

    Hi @ all,
I updated to FCP 5.1.2 to fix a dublicate bug with a Sony XDCam HD in 5.1.1 (http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=3269745#3269745)
This Problem was solved, but now i can't connect my Sony DSR-25 with Firewire to Mac. I have only one Firewire Onboard Slot and in 5.1.1 the DSR-25 worked fine. FCP doesn't finde the Deck
So did anyone have an intention or an idea what the problem could be with 5.1.2 ? Or did anyone has used a DSR-25 with FCP 5.1.2 already?
    TOM

This is a good workaround for curing your camera recognition problem with FCP (if that's what it is):
First, check that your Easy Setup / Timeline / Camera or Deck Settings are all exactly the same, then making sure your camera or deck is in VTR mode, try to capture again.
FCP uses a different form of QT than iMovie for capturing, so if the camera works in iMovie (or if it's listed in System Profiler) but not FCP, it obviously means your Mac can see the VTR but FCP can't, so you need to do this QuickTime fix.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301852
Follow the instructions carefully and you should have things running in no time - it's quite safe but you must Trash the Receipts AND re-install QT from the link provided.
If the Camera / Deck isn't recognised by iMovie or System Profiler, try resetting the Firewire Bus . . . Turn off the Mac and disconnect the power and all Firewire cables. Leave it for 30 mins then connect back up.
Still not working? Try a different Firewire cable.
Failing all this, try resetting the PMU (Power Management Unit). The method varies from machine to machine, so visit the Apple site and search for it in support.
Don't use iMovie for capturing - it doesn't give you a timecode and that's very important.
Let us know how you get on!

  • I am unable to capture 16:9 footage shot on Sony DSR PD170 correctly.

It appears "stepped or skipped".  The audio is in sync, but the picture looks as though a few frames are skipped.  Sort of like the old "Max Headroom" tv show.  I am using firewire cable directly from the camera to the computer.  Recorded on miniDV tape - new.
    My Capture Settings are:
    Device control: Firewire NTSC
Capture Input: DV NTSC 48 kHz  Anamorphic
    Audio/Video Settings are:
    Device Control Preset:  Firewire NTSC
Video Playback:  Apple Firewire NTSC (720x480)
    Audio Playback: Firewire DV
    I have FCP 7.0.3
    OS X 10.5.8
    Camera is Sony DSR PD170
I logged the footage without a picture or audio in FCP, used my camera's monitor.  FCP was reading the TC in the Log and Capture window, and I was able to input In and Out points to log.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Russ,
Many, many thanks for sticking with me.  I've finally got the footage to work.  Checked it by shooting new 16:9 footage and inputting it as well.   Have gone back to the original and discarded the iMovie stuff.
Believe my problem was in my settings when I changed these, everything worked:  Under System Settings.> Playback Controls  I changed RT to unlimited, Video Quality and Frame Rate to Dynamic, and Record to Full Quality, Frame offset is 4.  (I don't know what the frame offset is.)
Under User Preferences> Render Control   Render and Resolution are now 100%, Codec is same as sequence codec, Quality is Best, and I've checked always use best quality when rendering
Sorry, I don't know what the settings were before I began, just know that I changed some of them to these.  Thanks again.

  • Sony DSR-45A? Possible for NTSC Monitor Playback from Quicktime?

    Title says it all.
We have a new Mac Pro with two 22" monitors using both of the graphic car DVI ports.
However with have this beatiful 60 inch monitor next to us that we would like to hook it up to.
The monitor has BNC Component connections, VGA connections, A/V Connections, and more.
We have a Sony DSR-45A deck hook up to our computer via firewire.
We hooked up the deck using the component BNC cables.
I know in Final Cut Pro we can run footage back and forth from the deck to the computer and back into the monitor for playback.
What I would like to know is if Quicktime could also read the DSR-45A and play stuff on the NTSC monitor or if there is any other program that can playback footage on the monitor through the DSR45A.
Or am I out of luck and should just suck it up and get 2nd graphics card.
Please note I just spent $20,000 If i can save $600 by getting around not buying a graphics card I would love to.
Please not computer info on bottom is my home comp not my work.

  • Sony DSR-1500a not recognized by Mac Pro 2009

My first post. Hope I'm doing this right....
I have been working with a Mac Pro 1,1 Quad (OS 10.5.6) using a Sony DSR 1500a DVCAM player/recorder with out any issue using firewire 400 and Adobe Premiere and FCS2. I have recently purchased a Mac Pro 2009 (OS 10.5.7) with FCS2 and with Avid MC 3.5.
I cannot get the DSR-1500a to be seen by the OS or FCS2. The only twist is that if I daisy chain my DSR-1500a thru my Avid DNA Mojo. I can capture into Avid Media Composer no problem. I use a FW400 (6pin) from the DSR to the Mojo and a FW400 (6pin) to FW800 cable from the Mojo to the Mac Pro.
I am starting to assume that using a FW400 (6pin) to FW800 cable does not work with the 1500a. I do not see it listed in system profiler when connect directly to the Mac Pro. I have adjusted the DSR setting to iLink and also have tried 9Pin setting but neither work. Tried more than one cable as well.
I can successfully connect my cheap Sony TRV38 via a FW400 (4pin) to FW800 cable but not the professional deck...Go Figure...
I know it's not the deck as it works with the Mac Pro 1,1 using the FW400. Is there an OS setting I am missing? Do I need to buy a FW 400 card? Please help! Thanks

As I suspected... I had to buy a 1394a firewire card to enable the communication between the Mac Pro and the Sony DSR-1500a. Apparently the DSR does not subscribe to the reverse compatibility that Apple has forced on us of going from a FW400 (6pin) to FW800 (9pin) in reverse compatibility mode. I guess Apple can take the Sony DSR-1500a off of their qualified hardware list. If I have missed something, someone please enlighten me. Until then, looks like Apple has struck again. Oh I know, I'll go out and buy a $1000 capture card. Wow! I thought I was getting a well engineered product, instead I got a money pit! Forcing a Mini Display Port down our throats, NO firewire 400 ports, 8 slots of ram on tri-channel memory...Who's the engineer that came up with that one? Screeeaaammm!!!
OK I feel better now... Who do I make the check out to? %#@^

  • Battery for Sony DSR-11?

I have a Sony DSR-11 DVCAM deck and woul dlike to use it on battery power. Is anyone doing so and what battery are you using? I would prefer a storage batter to a "rechargeable" one.
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for the suggestion, David.
I bot this deck a few months ago and first asked the video rental agency where I do a lot of business, figuring they'd use batteries with everything. In this case, they didn't.
I have send Sony an inquiry and was hoping to find some recommendations for a particular battery here.

  • IDVD & Sony DSR-11

Quick question for all of the super guru's out there, I am using a Sony DSR-11 deck and iMovie HD works fine with it and Final Cut Express HD works fine with it but iDVD doesn't recognize it. My question to anyone who might know is why? and is there anything I can do to correct / fix it?
Thanks much for any and all assistance.
    Dave

Are you using it in some AV/DV conversion mode?
Note: OneStep DVD will only capture from recorded tape on a DV camcorder or deck. OneStep DVD will not work with analog-to-DV converters. It will also not work if you are using your camcorder or deck as a pass-through device to digitize from an analog souce (such as VHS or Hi-8). In order to function, OneStep DVD reads the timecode from your DV tape and it relies on DV device control to communicate with the camera or deck.

  • Premiere Pro CS5 Compatibility with Sony DSR-25 Deck

I have recently upgraded my computer to support cs5.  I have a PNY Nvidia Quadro 2000 graphics card, 8 gb ram, an Intel Xeon 5150 processor and Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.  My issue comes with running this system connected via firewire to a Sony DSR-25 deck.  When connected, while working on a project, at any point I click on the file menu, it takes several seconds (sometimes half a minute) to load the drop-down menu.  This is frustrating, but not entirely detrimental.  The main problem is that when I try to capture video (I use the keyboard shortcut F5 to bypass my previous issue) the capture video will usually crash the program, or it will take forever and when I try to capture, it will miss almost the entire first minute of video trying to catch up.  It starts rolling the tape, but just doesn't physically begin capturing at that time.  I spoke to someone at Adobe and we narrowed the problem down to an issue with the deck, and I am trying to figure out if this deck is absolutely not compatible with this system or if there is some sort of work-around.

    Try this:
In  Windows: Click on  Start -> Control Panel -> System -> Device  Manager (up on top  left), or just click the Start button and search for  "device manager."
Swivel   down the entry for "IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers, and right-click on   the item that is revealed (will depend on your computer/card   manufacturer). Select "Update Driver Software."
Click the "Browse my computer for driver software," and then the "Let me pick from a list" button.
In the list of drivers, select the one that has "(Legacy)" at the end; click Next, and then Close all the dialogs.
    Try capturing again.

  • Sony DSR 30 Deck not recognised

    Hello,
I'm running FCP 3 & 5 and I use a Sony DSR 30 deck. The deck works fine on FCP 3, but having just got a new mac running Tiger and FCP 5, it no longer works.
I have checked on the Fire Bus and it is not listed. My other Firewire devices work and are listed when connected, just not the DSR 30 deck.
I have also trashed my QT receipts and re-installed QT manually, but this has not improved matters.
If my deck is nor showing up on the Fire Wire bus is it fair to conclude it is not supported?
If so is there a fix?
    cheers,
    Dame

    Try a firewire bus reset:
    - unplug ALL firewire cables from all ports on the computer
    - unplug the power cord from the computer
    - let the computer sit for 15-30 minutes (probably takes less time but you want to make sure all power drains from relvent capacitors on the motherboard)
The key point is if there are any connections to the firewire ports on the mac, the machine will not reset the firewire bus.
Also, the sequence of reconnection is important:
    - connect the deck to the computer directly (no daisy chaining)
    - power up the deck
    - plug in the computer
    - power up the computer
    - check for the presence of the deck using system profiler.
After this if the deck doesn't show up in system profiler, time to take it in for service.
If the deck does show up but doesn't work with FCP, the quicktime-trash receipts and reinstall is the usual solution. It has been noted to take more than one attempt to get it to 'take'.
    good luck.

  • Connecting VCR to SONY DSR-11

    Hello there,
Can someone please help, I need to get some footage from a VHS tape into my computer, I have tried connecting my VCR to my SONY DSR-11 deck using RCA cables, yet I cannot get it to work. Is it possible to do it this way? Or can it only be done using an S-VIDEO connection? My VCR does not have an S-VIDEO connection.
    Thanks in advance,
    Oliver

    thick skin, oliver, thick skin.
we aren't looking over your shoulder, we don't know what you've done to remedy the situation.
signal flow and integrity is a very basic foundation upon which all this is built. on your vcr: attach rca patch cables to video and audio OUT
on your dsr 11: attach other end of rca patch cables to video and audio IN
in your dsr 11 menu, designate the input source. i do not have a dsr 11 but it seems that is what david is saying.
by posting again, it looks like you're ignoring those that are trying to help, that's all.
good luck and post back with any problems.

  • Sony DSR-20

I just upgraded from FCP 3 to FCP 4/HD. To do that I had to also upgrade to Mac OS 10.3. Now, while running FCP ver 4 it cannot identify my Sony DSR-20 deck. Is there a way to get the system to read the deck?
    Thanks for any help.

Often in upgrading the OS, QT or FCP for some odd reason QT will get knocked slightly off kilter. The usual solution it to force a full reinstall of QT.
    This is how:
Go to /library/receipts and delete any files that say Quicktime followed by a number e.g. Quicktime652.pkg
Go to the Apple quicktime site and download the appropriate version of Quicktime to your hard drive.
    Run the Quicktime installer.
    Reboot
Repair Disk Permissions for your System Disk (Disk Utility > Select the system disk > Repair Disk Permissions)
    Good luck.

  • Premiere Capture and SONY HRV M15AU

I can not get Adobe Premiere CS5 to recognize my HRV tapedeck to capture files. I have tried reseting and changing basic edit settings.  Definitely feel over my head with this one.  Any helpful solutions needed to get the two to talk.
    Thanks!

I have a SONY HVR-M15U and it works great with PPRO CS5.02 for capture(export and realtime playback under MPE is another story, I may have to start another thread on that topic).    Anyway, make sure that Windows sees your 1394 host controller as well as the deck, look in Device Manager.
Make sure you are using a Firewire 400 6-pin to 4-pin cable(without converters or adapters) like the one that comes with the deck.  Also be sure to use a port directly on the host controller(backplane of computer) and not a front panel convenience port.  If you don't see an IEEE 1394 Bus entry in Device Manager, try powering down & reseating the card in the slot.
This VTR should be PnP.  With the VTR off, connect the firewire cable between the two devices.  Turn on the VTR and if all your connections are good, you should see the SONY DV entry in the DevMan and get an AutoPlay notice for a Digital Video Device.
Premiere doesn't have a specific device setting for this VTR, but I use the device control settings of NTSC/SONY/DSR-11/Auto.  I think with an AU model you'll probably want to use PAL, but the rest should work for you.
