Aja Kona Card (Migrating from G5 to Mac Pro Dual-Core)

I own a small video production company.
I am migrating from an old G5 to a Mac Pro Dual Core given to me.  The Aja Kona card doesn't fit into the Mac Pro Dual-Core, as the card slots are different.
Any way to adapt the G5 compatible card to the Mac Pro slots?  I would only use for importing older analog media, as the newer HD stuff we shoot is brought in electronically.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
DW

Thanks, Grant.
I gave the G5 to my kids, so I'll probably just keep the Kona card/bundle in there until needed, hook up the appropriate VCR/VTR, and then dump the captured footage onto a HD to bring onto the Mac Pro.  Too bad there isn't some internal/external adapter solution...

The Radeon X1900 XT video card went bad in my Mac Pro Dual-Core Intel Xeon. (I tried it with a good one at the office). I found one online that was $250. I don't need the gaming capacity of this card and was wondering if there were less expensive video cards that I could use in this machine. I run Adobe Creative Suites for graphics design and have a 23" Apply display. Thank you for any help that you can provide. -PretzelMcK

Then pick up the ATI 5770 AND upgrade to 10.6.8.
Same price for a good card that will work and helps to have 1GB VRAM.
There aren't any other real choices let alone less expensive.
Even the ebay links I had and not a lot of choices.

  • Running 10.6.8 on Mac Pro Dual-Core Intel Xeon 2.66GHz processors.  Can I upgrade to Lion 10.7

I've just upgraded from 10.5 to 10.6.8 on a Mac Pro Dual-Core Intell Xeon, 2.66GHz.   Is it possilbe to upgrade to Lion 10.7 with my Mac Pro Dual Core or have I just hit my ceiling on 10.6.8 update ?

Mac Pros are not PowerMacs.    In 2006, Apple changed all its cheesegrater enclosure Macs to have the Xeon chip installed, and changed the name to Mac Pro at that that time from PowerMac G5.  That said, all Mac Pros can upgrade to a minimum of 10.7.5.   Only the earliest ones can't upgrade to 10.8 and above.   10.7 and later do not have Rosetta, the ability to run PowerPC (pre-2006) applications natively.  For other pitfalls, read this tip.

Logic Pro 10 requires OSX 10.8.4, which is not officially supported on your Mac Pro (must be Early 2008).
There are, however, unofficial workarounds to install 10.8 on those older models that you can search for on Google.

  • Can recieve but not send after migrating from MBPro to Mac Pro

Migrated from mbpro to our new Mac Pro yesterday and now i cant send email directly. Was using Rapido SMTP in conjunction with my Entourage. I can recieve email from all of my email accounts but in order to send I must send it from my sprintpcs account. I have tried removing Rapido SMTP and restoring my ISPs SMTP settings but that only nets me a new error. The new error says it could not reach the server and too double check my DNS. Any Ideas?
I am toying with reinstalling Microsoft Entourage 2004 over the existing one to see if something got corrupted in the migration process.
    I am at a lose.

  • Mac Pro Dual Core (pre 2009) - Leopard to Snow Leopard and Final Cut Pro 7

I have a pre 2009 Mac Pro running Leopard and Final Cut Pro 6. My question is should I upgrade to Snow Leopard, and Final Cut Pro 7? Both, neither, just one of them... and in what order?
I am afraid of some of the issues people have been discussing (one website even said with a non intel based system neither updates can be done, but I have Intel Xeon processor)
Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks kindly

Your macpro will run Snow Leopard and FCut 7 just fine. There are plenty of "whats new in Final Cut Pro" tutorials out there to research and learn whether the new things are useful to you. Snow Leopard...plenty have had issues with it. As always, it's best to have a full mirror backup before you update to Snow Leopard so if you do have problems you can go back easily. I'd definitely move to 10.5.8 if not SLeopard. I have a PCIe card that won't work with SL so I'm holding off till I install a new card. There are still some incompatibilties known so you may want to check Apple's list.

  • Powerbook Ti to Mac Pro dual

Hi all its been a while since i have been in here, switcher 4 years ago when i bought my Ti 1Ghz now its time to upgrade as i am improving my art skills. I am thinking about Mac Pro Dual Core 2G ram etc, and a nice new 23" display. But i am concerend that my Photoshop CS2 may run slow under rosetta ( any one using the same ) Because i will not be able to afford to upgrade the software as well and also should i wait a month or two until we know when Leopard is going to be launched, I dont want to have to fork out for that 2weeks later either. Any advice on what i can expect on the performance side would be kind, oh and if you are wondering in 4 years only 1 Kernel Panic and never let me down or lost data. Its been the best....and now i want more...... need the banks help though....bummer eh never mind life is for living cheers in advance all.
    regards

As long as you know to install 4GB RAM, you will be fine. And reinstall from scratch your PPC programs or it won't run worth a darn. Mac Pro is light-years, 500% boost easily. It is/was 275% boost over G4 MDD.
Even if Leopard shipped tomorrow, I would probably caution on making it primary OS until it has had a couple updates, like 10.5.3, and CS3 has had a couple months of kicking the tires.
I like to either buy a system that earns income and pays off, or cash-only so I am not paying for plastic, setting aside $100/month since the G5 came out 3+ yrs ago knowing I would be buying something.
Even an iMac or MacBook Pro would be a big improvement. And you can save on Apple Specials.

I'll venture that your problem here is that you're using two very different versions of Mac OS X.  The USB adapter has been useful to me when making big downloads or while using other networks, but it might not be your case.
Here's what I would advise, though it may be less than stellar:  Copy the files you need into folders and move them through a USB flash drive or using that external hard drive of yours. (Could the format be the reason your MBA can't see it?). Some stuff like calendars and contacts can be exported too. At least in Lion, I haven't used Tiger in a while.
    Good luck.

  • I Photo will not update after migrating from old I-Mac to new I-Mac with fusion drive

I just migrated from 2009 I-Mac with Mountain Lion to New I-Mac with Mountain Lion with migration Assistant. Now... I tunes will not update although Apple says one is available

a couple of things - you should not "migrate" applications - you should use the new ones that come preinstalled - what version of of iPhoto do you have on your new mac?
Migration assistance does not handle the iPhoto library well sometimes - the best way is to drag the bad iphoto library from the pictures folder on the new system to the desktop, connect the two systems together (network, firewire target mode, etc) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old system to the pictures folder of the new system and launch iPhoto on the new system - it will open and convert the iPhoto library as necessary and you will be fine - once you test the iPhoto library you can delete the one on the desktop

  • Just got a new imac and my iwork software wont work. I have the serial numbers but after migrating from my old mac running OSX tiger it won't even give me that opportunity. I do not have any discs as this was downloaded. Help

Just got a new imac and my iwork software wont work. I have the serial numbers but after migrating from my old mac running OSX tiger it won't even give me that opportunity. I do not have any discs as this was downloaded. Help

Hi, hopefully you guys can help me out, I just
purchased a G5 iMac to replace my aging dell desktop,
and now i'm more or less completely os x dependant
(I've had an ibook for a few months now). Anyway, I
    have a few questions:
    1. Does anyone know of a (free) mail notifier tool,
that will alert me when I recieve new pop3 mail? I
used to use AIM for this in windows
The built in email program does sound an alert for new messages.
    2. Anyone know of a good (free, again) IRC client?
    iChat works well.
    3. I noticed earlier that my screen was flickering,
it seems to have subsided for now, but is that normal
to encounter in a new display? It wasn't really bad
flicker, but I could see it.
    No idea.
    4. I leave my desktops on 24/7x365, will that be a
problem with this iMac? Display shuts off of course
    after 30 mins
You could set the iMac to go to sleep after non use. My Macs are
always sleeping when not in use, waking them up takes seconds.
Unlike windoze, never knew if it would be locked up or not.
    5. Should I get the extended warranty? I'm usually
against them, but I am expecting this computer to
last me at least 3 years (for $1300 it better!)
before I upgrade, as I got that much out of a Dell
and from what I understand, Mac's do not age nearly
    as fast as Windows pc's.
It is well worth the cost. Never know what might happen. Also
it is good insurance for future upgrades. I traded in my G4 tower
purchased two years ago for 75% of what I paid for it. Apple care
transfers, giving the buyer the remainder of your warranty.
    Thank you for any help,
    -Evan

  • When migrating from PC to Mac is it necessary to restore iPad to factory settings?

    Hi everyone!
I recently decided to migrate from PC to Mac. Everything is amazingly easy now. I have already migrated my iTunes Library with no hassle and I am very pleased with my decision. I had no problem either with my iPhone nor my iPod but with my iPad, thats a different story.
I just have one unsolved problem relative to the backup that iTunes performs each time I sync it with my Mac. It takes hours and somewhere near the end iTunes tells me it was not possible to backup. So if I want to sync I must skip the backup process but I know that's too risky. I can't even upgrade the iOS on my iPad because of the backup issue.
I have read in some other forums that maybe this is because when I bought my iPad it was formatted to sync with PC and restoring factory settings would solve the problem.
Is there any other way to solve this? Because I have a lot of information that comes from inApp dowloads and I would like to skip long hours of re-downloading my content.
    Thanks!

There is no Windoze and OS X formatting with an iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad.
The problem is with your existing backup.
At the iTunes menu bar go to iTunes > Preferences.
Under the Devices tab select and delete the existing iPad backup.
Control-click on your iPad under Devices in the iTunes source list and at the menu window that appears, select Back Up to create a new backup.
