AJA video card to export FCP project to DigiBeta and BetaSP

On an OSX Mac G-5 computer, is it as simple as just plugging in the AJA Kona video card into the computer slot and it's ready to export a FCP project to DigiBeta or BetaSP deck using the video card patch cords? Or do I have to download drivers and/or codecs to convert the FCP to export using the AJA card?
Thanks,
Bryan

Yes you have to download drivers and setups to use the card. it's not painful. Check their website for updates and make sure you use drivers setups compatable with the particular card and version of FCP. You also need a robust enuff disk array to play out the project and appropriate interfacing for the dbeta or BSP ie cables and monitoring. The breakout cables that attach to the card are suitable for a minimalist system but depending on the card and your monitoring system you may require other devices and/or cables for monitoring

  • How do I export FCP project to DigiBeta -- what video card?

How can I export my 90 minute movie edited in FCP to a rented DigiBeta deck, so it will be broadcast quality? What video card do I need to buy? I can't afford an HD, so an SD card is fine for now. Where do I get one? And how much? Are they easy to install? Is it as easy as transferring to mini-DV, but to digibeta? Are there controls while transferring, or does it automatically make a perfect clone of the FCP project onto DigiBeta? I can't find info on video cards in SD anywhere for the MAC. Thank you.

    See if this helps.
In the analog world, every generation - copying from one tape to the next - loses quality. A generation of BetaSP doesn't destroy the material, but a generation on VHS pretty much does.
If you have something important that is already on VHS, it will still lose some quality going to BetaSP. Probably not enough to matter, but the best quality will still come from that VHS tape.
    The analogy to digital video:
Contrary to what everybody thought in the early days, digital video often works the same way. As soon as you commit images to DV compression you have compressed it and lost a lot of the quality of the otiginal camera signal.
As soon as you apply transitions, filters, CC, etc. in editing, you are recompressing and losing more quality. Sometimes these two compressions create visible problems.
Fortunately, outputting that product to DV tape is a digital clone of the date and loses no quality. So there is nothing gained by going to DigiBeta from your system as compared to taking a tape out for transfer.
But when you take that DV edit from DV format to DigiBeta, it is being compressed again. It will lose quality. Not as much as another DV recompression, but enough to make any visible artifacting worse.
The best thing, in my oopinion, for you to do is to move your bits into a DigiBeta-equivalent sequence (is that the same as DVCPro50?) and render. Then find a way to get that into DigiBeta - most likely from hard drive at a service bureau or dub house.
The second best thing you can do is to tell the dub house that your deliverable is going to be DV. If it makes them feel any better you can provide it as a QT file.
In the end DigiBeta will not add to your quality but decrease it. Probably not a enough to matter, but enough to be a ridiculous requirement under the corcumstances.
Also consider whether they are working for you, or you are working for them.

  • IMovie - Poor Video Quality when exporting to "Projects"

Hi - I'm using iMovie 11' and once I move my video (HD) from "Events" to "Projects" my video quality becomes very poor and the video is cropped. I have changed my setting to have it "fit frame" but the problem still exists. Thoughts?

    @Harm,
"Pear-shaped" (or sometimes "fruit-shaped") is a euphemism meaning that the effort has gone awry; it was a mess.
    @John,
Export to DVD is a PPro 2.0 function; in CS3 it is now Export to Encore. Is that what you meant?
First thing is to check the field orders of your source material and of your export settings. Don't invert them, and don't deinterlace interlaced footage.
Perhaps a short list of the settings you have tried (and why you chose those settings) would help us help you.

  • Export FCP project and linked media assets

Sorry everyone, I know this is an easy question but I have searched for the answer and am still very confused.  I want to save my FCP project and just the appropriate used media assets in one place so I can send a condensed version of my entire project to someone to further edit.  I know there is an easy way to do this because I have done this before, but I can't remember.
I was confused because I found a number of answers but some of them talked about how afterwards the media files will no longer be able to be tracked by the Final Cut Server?  This is what scared me.

Use FCP's Media Manager to duplicate the project media.  Be sure to include handles if needed.

  • Best Video Card for my MDD Dual 1.25 and Video Editing?

I know that this has been discussed several times before. I just never saw any real answers. I was planning to a little more intensive video editing so I got the Motion 2.1 Trial. Well, doens't allow me to install saying that my video card doesn't meet the specs. I'm confused, I read the requirements and read me files and my ATI Radeon 9800 Pro seems to meet the basic requirements. However, the About this Mac says that it doens't support Core Image.
I guess my question is what would be my best and least expensive video card upgrade? Or is mine set up incorrectly or something? I've read elsewhere that this card should work. I'm just a little confused why it doesn't support Core Image....I may go all the way to Final Cut...Will this card work with that application?
    Any info would be great.
    Thanks.
    Robert

Thanks and sorry for the confusion...I just realized
that mine is only a 64mb card. It's the stock that
came originally in the MDD dual 1.25 I believe. I
had no idea that the same model card can have
different amounts of memory. It still says that it's
the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro...just 64mb and no core image
    support
It sounds like you may be mistaken and have an Apple OEM ATI RADEON 9000 Pro. That had 64MB, was stock with the MDD, and does not support core image.
There was also an Apple OEM ATI RADEON 9700 Pro with 128MB available as a BTO option with the MDD Dual 1.42GHz. Sometimes they pop up on eBay, although they are sought-after because they support core image and have both an ACD and DVI connection allowing for two digitally-connected LCD flat-panel monitors.
To my knowledge there have only been 128MB and 256MB versions of the ATI RADEON 9800 Pro Mac Edition.

  • Is the FX5200-T128 video card compatible with an Athlon 64 CPU and a K8N mobo?

I am building a new computer based on the Athlon 64 3000 processor and the mobo MSI K8N Neo-FSR.
I intended to use MSI MS-8907 GeForce FX5200-T128 as the video card.
However I have been told that this video card might not be compatible either with the Athlon 64 processors or with the mobo MSI K8N Neo-FSR.
    Is it compatible or not?
If it's not compatible, what is the cheapest MSI video card compatible with the Athlon 64 and the K8N?
Thank you in advance for your help.

If it's there, it means they at least inserted the card, booted, and installed drivers, as far as what they do from that point is anyones guess. You will see the far right column shows 4x or 8x.
I agree, it is minimal info at best and not my idea of what should be included in a test report.
I don't see any reason why that card would not work, the market is saturated with that type of card.

  • Can you export a project to Compressor and keep editing in FCP???

    Hello my mac guru-ness,
I have a query, if I edit in FCP and export out to Compressor or Quicktime conversion, I am locked out from continuing to edit in FCP. Is there a way around this???
I need to edit 4 x 5 minute video's and need to export the 1st video to Mpeg2 and FLV via Compressor and Quicktime Conversion and then continue to keep editing the next video while the first one is still converting. How can I do this???
If I had 2 mac pros networked together, could I get the 2nd mac pro to convert the 1st video while I continue to edit the remaining 3 video's???
Would Final cut server help me in this scenario also?
Your assistance would be gratefully appreciated.
    kris

To build on g's answer ... when exporting to Compressor from FCP, you will not be able to use FCP until the export is completed.
If your Macs are networked together, you can do a couple of things.
    1. Export your sequence as a Quicktime file, then transfer it to your other Mac Pro, then have that Mac Pro encode.
    2. I would recommend setting up your Mac Pro's as a little QCluster. Since the MP's have multiple cores, you can create multiple "instances" in QMaster Preferences. Instances are QMaster's way of dividing your multiple cores to spread the encoding across all cores. I generally create half the number of instances from the total number of cores available. For example, with an 8 Core MP, I would use 4 instances.
Read this article for further information on how to set up a QCluster: http://visionstudios.ca/RenderFarm/RenderFarmleft.html
On your MP that you will be editing on, you can then disable a couple of instances so that you wouldn't see as big of a performance hit while encoding and editing simultaneously. You use the Apple Qadministrator app to configure a cluster like this.

  • What's the best video format to export my project to creat a DVD?

I've made a project in iMovie, using my DV Camcorder and I would like to export it so I can make a DVD. What would be the best video quality when using "export to quicktime"?

Try "Quicktime to DV Stream". A DV stream matches what you need for making a DVD very well in both resolution and pixel aspect ratio, so it will pass through iDVD with minimal further processing. It still needs to be re-encoded to MPEG-2, but at least the resolution and aspect ratio remain.

  • Capturing Computer Monitor video for use in FCP project.

I'm working on an industrial film for a company that makes websites, and they want to put in video clips of their websites. I'm looking for a good program that will allow me to capture my desktop and make FCP ready videos. It doesn't need to be free, it just needs to do what I need. I'm also looking for the right settings to set for those movies for use in a standard DV NTSC project.

  • What is the best video format to export my project in??

It has been awhile since I took classes on video editing (roughly since 2004), but I have been brushing up my editing skills so I can make a video for my business. I am remembering most of the stuff I learned from a few years ago, but there are a couple things I am not getting right. This is my main problem....
When I have the video in Premiere (before I export it) the quality looks great, nice and clear, but when I export it the quality looks very poor. I have tried exporting it in WMV and MPG format and both look fairly bad...the WMV is a little better but not much. There are so many different format options when you are exporting, I have no idea what would be the best quality. Can anyone help me with this? It seems like its a matter of matching up the right format settings, but I am just getting confused when I try to figure this out. I used a Panasonic PV-GS300 Mini DV camera for all this footage, so Im sure its not going to be amazing, but I think it should be clearer than what it is. I really appreciate the help! I can show you the video quality if that helps, just let me know. Thank you,
    Andrew

As long as your video is transferred via Firewire into a DV AVI type 2 file (I don't know your camera) your edit footable is the best you can get
If what you want to create is a DVD, you already have Encore bundled with PrPro (I have the CS3 version of both)
Simply export as DV AVI and give that file to Encore... then tell Encore to use the AUTOMATIC setting when creating the DVD
Otherwise, work through all of the steps here http://ppro.wikia.com/wiki/Troubleshooting
If your problem isn't fixed, report back with the DETAILS asked for in the questions at the end of that link

  • Video card difference in FCP X - 6750M (512 MB) vs 6770M (1GB) X

    Hi FCP X users,
I am sooting a lot of Full HD video on Canon 5D MK II and I am about to switch to new MBP15 from my 2010 MBP13.
Now I am not sure, whether I will get some real, measurable advantage with 15" 2,4  MBP with AMD Radeon HD 6770M with 1 GB VRAM over 15" 2,2  MBP with AMD Radeon HD 6750M with 512 MB VRAM.
For average work, background rendering and work with Full HD video - will there be a work speed and responsiveness difference between 512 MB and 1 GB I will be regretting later with only 512 MB?
Assuming 8 GB of RAM. I also work a lot with Aperture, but there I do not expect any speed increase.
    Thanks for your experience!
