AKAI MPC vs Logic - Sync issues !! -
I have a Akai MPC 500 and a simple MIDI to USB converter. I can get the sampler to send MIDI signals to Logic, thats all fine. What i would like is to have Logic and the sampler in sync.
*Does anyone have any experience with sync-ing Logic and any external MIDI devices??*

I have been syncing MPC's and other external MIDI gear for years via MIDI beat clocks.
Logic will be the master. Simply open your syncronization page (default KC is "Y") and click on the "send midi clock to" checkbox and choose you midi interface via the dropdown menu.
There is also a offset value in this page that put the MPC earler. There is another offset parameter in the "song settings" prefs page that can be set to + and - values. Listen to Logics click and the MPC's click at the same time (pan to L and R) and set offsets while playing until you hear them so close that they phase and not flam.
The MPC 500 and 1000 needs to be set on ext midi clocks in the midi/sync page. You can keep that set always there as it will switch to internal when you hit play on the MPC.
Do not use MTC (midi time code) on these 2 machines as once you enable that you have to restart logic because the MPC will not reset to bar 1 on stop and SPP will not work. MTC might work on an MPC 2000 and up but is not really needed as midi clocks works fine.
I would not recommend making the MPC the master as audio clockig issues would arise.

I'm stuck in writing limbo now , due to a bizarre and never before seen problem in Logic 9.1.4
a Sync or internal timing issue.....for no reason of my doing, this is what occurs:
1. Using my same Autoload setup used for years, and am simply sequencing MIDI and audio
2. When i record AUDIO at bar 1, then try to LOCK it and SAVE (command-S) the file region vanishes
and ends up placed at the END of my entire autoload sequence- bar 1749 ..... what the $%^ ?
3. the transport position indicator for the region reads "????"
4. MIDI does the same and opening the MIDI region shows that all note informaiton is placed at the same bar (in this case bar 7)
5. if i UNDO this operation, then regions reappear correctly at Bar 1, but i cannot LOCK any regions without this sync issue
There are NO tempo changes programmed in thi sequence- eveything including signature are same.
I have done nothing to change any setting in preferences, project setting or otherwise
this has never happened in the 14 years I've been working on Logic.....dunno

When i record an audio track and try to SAVE and LOCK it - it jumps to the end of my entire bar sequence
if i UNDO this operaiton it returns, but i can only save the sequence with all unlocked regions...
not useful as I do primarlly scoring use for picture.

Sync Issues - MPC 1000, MPC 60, Fire Wire 410
Hello, I recently purchased Logic Pro 7. I'm having issues syncing Logic to my MPC's. I used to use Nuendo 3, but have since moved on. On Nuendo I would sync via Midi Clock. I would like to use Logic where I can press play/record in Logic and the MPC Plays. I'm not sure if in Logic I would need to use Midi Clock or Midi Time Code. I have my Firewire 410 set up in Logic but the Midi Ports don't seem to show up in the Transport bar. It says NO IN, and NO OUT. I'm sure I'm missing something that is very easily fixed. All I would like to no is what are the proper settings to contect the MPC to Logic. Also I can't seem to find a place in Logic where I can set my midi input 1 and my midi output 1. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

This is how to set up so the MPC as the master, keeping it's timing and groove.
Be sure to monitor the mpc audio with direct monitoring (available on most I/O devices), v. important, if you don't, you'll have alot more hassle with latency, meaning you'd have to go and fiddle with MTC delay settings in Preferences/Midi/Sync (which is actually quite easy.
Logic Settings:
In - File / Song Settings / Synchronisation / Midi
Make sure Midi Clock is not set to transmit (uncheck box if needed) Make sure Transmit MTC is unchecked Make sure Transmit MMC is checked Make sure Listen to MMC input is unchecked
In - File / Song Settings / Synchronisation / General
Sync Mode = "MTC" (also check the Auto Enable MTC box) Set frame rate to "25 FPS" Set Validate MTC to "always" set 'Bar Position' to "1 1 1 1", set 'Plays at SMPTE' to "0 : 0 : 0 : 0" (VERY important)
ALL the above settings are song settings so you would have to save the Logic song as a template if you want these settings to be in effect every time you start a new song, otherwise would have to be done manually every time.

In sync page (MODE+9 - F2)

Using Logic 8 with Akai MPC 1000

I've been using the AKAI MPC 1000 for a few years now, and purchased Logic Studio 8, right around the time Logic 9 came out, so I was able to get a good deal on it. However, I haven't used it up until recently, and I want to find a way to play my MPC right into Logic via audio. I have an M-Audio FireWire Solo interface, and I believe I have everything plugged in properly. Below I'll list how I have everything set up, so hopefully someone will be able to see something I'm missing.
1) Before i turn my computer on, I plug in the audio interface via firewire to my computer
2) I have instrument cables plugged into the outputs of my MPC, and into the inputs of my audio interface
3) When I plug in my interface to the computer and turn on my computer, a blue light on the interface turns on, indicating that it is in operation.
4) I open up Logic, and turn on my MPC
5) I create a new audio track, and press the record-enable button
Now, I thought this would be sufficient, however when I press the pads on my MPC, the levels in Logic do not appear.
So, I went into system preferences and put in the input to the audio interface, and the output to the headphones that I was using. Within system preferences, when I hit the pads it indicated that there were levels, however I still couldn't hear any sound.

You were in System Preferences > Sound > Input, and you were watching the meter there. Watching that meter is a good way to confirm that your MPC is producing audio, and that your audio interface is properly conveying that audio into your computer. However, the controls in this window are generally irrelevant to Logic. These controls are mostly relevant when you are working with programs like iTunes and Quicktime Player. To get audio in and out of Logic, you have to create the proper settings inside Logic. Those settings inside Logic are here: Logic Pro > Preferences > Audio > Devices > Core Audio. Look at the Device menu. This is where you have to make sure your FireWire Solo audio interface is selected. Is it?
And then attach your headphones to the FireWire Solo, not to your Mac.
Create a new project in Logic, and create an audio track, and make sure that track is record-enabled (click R in the track header). That's all you should have to do. Hit the pads on the MPC, and you should hear it in your headphones, and you should see meters lighting up in Logic.
This should work if you haven't changed any other Logic settings from their defaults. If it doesn't work, there are a few other simple things to check.
You may eventually want to create a midi connection between Logic and the MPC, and not just an audio connection. But you can worry about that later. -
Yet another MPC 1000 L7 Sync post
i searched through the forum archives and didnt find the sync problem im having with my particular setup. im trying to slave the mpc from logic and have the mpc output signal its coaxial spdif.
im using a m-audio 410, logic 7 (duh), and the MPC 1k. i have the midi connected (midi out from the 410 to in the MPC) and the spdif out from the MPC to the 410 spdif in. i set my song settings appropriatly in logic, and the sync stuff appropriatly in the MPC.
now when i hit play in L7, the MPC starts, but the SPL in logic doesnt move at all. and on top of it all, the MPC doesnt read "EXT" like its suppose to in slave mode.
the odd thing is when i do this same setup with the analog outputs, everything works hunky dory.
anybody out there have the same problem?To be clear, if you pull the spdf out at the interface end does the sync up work? Maybe your interface is seeing the spdf as the master clock or something.

I am considering buying a new Akai MPC.
How easy is it to connect the MPC to my G5 and set it up with logic? And to start making music?If the MPC can store its music files in standard WAV data format on your G5 via USB, then all you might need to buy is a USB cable. If the MPC data format is exclusively for MPC use only, then you will only be able to use your G5 as storage bank for MPC files. Next option...burn your beats to CD on the MPC and RIP to your G5. Next option, use an audio/midi interface that can connect with your computer via USB or firewire... then stream realtime audio into Logic (not recommended). Next option, save your $2000 and just use Logic's Ultra beat to make beats. I bought a great collection of samples used by Kanye West online from Crate Kings for $35. I plan on getting Timberlands next. Ultrabeats sample browser allows me to hear a sample with a single mouse click or scroll down and drag them into the drum sequencer to build my own sample kit to record live or construct step by step. Plus, the MPC synth is dwarfed by Logics software synths. Get an Akai MPD24 USB/MIDI MPC style Pad Controller for $199 from musicians friend. Since the PAD controller only has one basic function it shoudn't take much longer to learn how to use it than an MPC would. Plus, no file transfer hassle and you can use Logic to program the PAD controller functions to match many of the functions you like about the MPC's control features. Just my opinion, though. If the MPC appeals better to your creative soul... go for it... and just keep ridin' da' beat!

More Aperture/iPad syncing issues
Each time I create a new project or album in Aperture, I have trouble getting the images to the iPad when I sync. I sometimes need to sync several times until the images are recognized and imported to iPad. I do have the albums designated manually, rather than all, which means I have to sync and then sync again after I check the checkbox for the new album. I understand that, but sometimes I have to go back into Aperture to make sure the previews are updated. If I choose to update the previews for a project, Aperture will usually tell me that they're already up to date, but often they will not show up on the iPad, even after I check the appropriate box for the album in iTunes. Sometimes I get good results if I delete the previews and regenerate them in Aperture.
The second problem is the sort order. Even if I have "sort by filename" selected in Aperture, they do not show up in this order on the iPad--despite what the support article says about this. They appear to only show up in Date order. I've tried repeatedly resetting the sort order, but it does not change on the iPad. Sometimes I have to delete the album from the iPad, (uncheck the album in iTunes and sync again), then recheck it and sync yet another time. This does not always work, however.
It is very frustrating. The interface between Aperture and the iPad is very wonky. I often have to sync repeatedly, just to get the photos on the iPad and even then they're usually in the wrong order.
Aperture appears to have two types of previews: "previews" and "sharing previews," but "sharing previews" don't seem to appear in the documentation. I've noticed that, even when Aperture says the previews are up to date, when I exit the program, it will sometimes (but, maddeningly, not always), give the message, "updating sharing previews" before quitting. I cannot figure out how to force this, however. Sometimes opening and closing Aperture several times will cause it to do this, but I can't be sure.
iTunes seems to have its own process in which it "optimizes" images for importing to the iPad. Like Aperture's mysterious "sharing previews," "optimizing" does not show up in the iTunes documentation or help files.
This process either needs to be improved, or at least documented so users can understand how to avoid these problems.1. Some people have reported slow syncing with anything but the iPad's own USB cable (e.g. using a US cable from an iPhone/iPod). Try different cables
2. More work - disable iTunes syncing completely, then re-enable a bit at a time, e.g. one movie at a time, one playlist at a time, one photo album at a time. There are periodic reports of syncing issues caused by a bit of media that's been corrupted, and this (tedious) approach allows you to identify where the problem might be.
3. If that fails, do a clean restore back to factory settings, then progressively re-enable syncing as above.

Sync issues after iOS 8 update

I have an iPhone 5S, 64 GB. After updating to iOS8 I got sync issues. "Waiting for changes to be applied" never disappeared. Also the storage usage in iTunes 11.4 is wrong. iTunes said I had 6GB free, when I had in fact 20GB. I restored the phone back to firmware, restored the backup. All was fine until I made setting changes in iTunes what I want to sync. The same issue in iTunes is back again. I already deleted my voice memos as someone recommended in another threat but that didn't help.
Any ideas how I can solve the problem, would be appreciated. Thank you!Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

Disappearing Contacts, Mobile Me Sync Issues, Calendar crash-Answers??
I'll try to keep this post brief but hopefully it will help provide some possible answers for frustrated users experiencing the random complete wipe out of all contacts and calendar data when syncing with mobile me using either push or fetch. After several weeks of experiencing these random sync issues and spending several hours over several days between tech support calls with iPhone then Mobile Me support and then finally a genius bar appointment where the genius said he didn't have a clue and simply offered to replace my phone.
The next morning, SAME PROBLEMS... and through it all NO ONE could tell me why my sync was so randomly unreliable. Every other day for no apparent reason, my phone would suddenly lose all contacts and/or calendar data. (A few thousand contacts and two years of calendar data). It was both frustrating and strange—even stranger that Apple techs had no clue why and seemed to think no one else was having this issue.
I tried everything - complete restores, resets, deleting and re-adding the mobileme account, etc., etc., etc. One tech support person finally said, "good luck..." The others kept handing me off the higher levels of support... until finally they just said "we don't know why this is happening." I was waiting for someone to just say, "Look, we have issues with mobile me, so hang in there and eventually it will work." I can be patient and I still think the iphone is the greatest invention in recent years. But everybody I talked with at Apple seemed to think this should be working flawlessly.
I also started having a crash on the calendar anytime I tried to see the list view for "all calendars." This was frustrating because that's the best feature of the calendar app!
I was prepared to just return to syncing with my computer and wait for the software to improve between the phone and mobile me. Finally, last night I tried a few things that seem to be working... and for the first full day, mobile me is actually useful to me today. (my fingers are crossed!)
Here's what I did.
1. I minimized the number of calendars I was syncing - I have no idea if this affected the sync, but I was syncing eight calendars, now I'm down to four. (You can easily export a calendar and import those events back into a different calendar.)
2. I did a complete restore of the phone (not from a back up) and the VERY FIRST THING, I added mobile me and synced only the calendar (set to push.) This cleared up the random calendar crash in list view and also mobile me was pushing data rather reliably. After a few moments my entire calendar was on the phone and worked perfectly. New events were transferred quickly back and forth.
3. I then chose to sync my contacts through the computer rather than over the air. I fear that the contact sync was somehow messing up the whole communication process between the phone and the cloud. Someone suggested that the number of "groups" in contacts might have an impact on the sync issues as well. I didn't need my contacts to sync with the urgency of "push" so this works for me. Plus I have a lot of contacts and it's just faster over the cable.
4. I then GREATLY reduced the number of apps on my phone. I originally had about 27 and I only reinstalled 9 of them. I did this ONE AT A TIME - starting with the most necessary and useful... and after each install, I checked the functionality of the calendar and mobile me. No problems. Perhaps I was having an app conflict?
5. Then I reinstalled the rest of my content - music, podcasts, photos. Still no problems.
ONE of these steps actually worked, and I'm not sure which one. My guess is that one or more of my apps was conflicting in some way. OR possibly something with the contact sync... but for the last 24 hours the mobile me calendar sync using push has been consistently reliable and useful. (for the record, mobile me email has always worked perfectly for me.)
No one with tech support ever suggested to me that I could be having an application conflict or any other problems with calendars or contact groups, etc. I've spent many hours on this the past few weeks... and for the first time, my iphone seems to be working with mobile me correctly.
In reading many of these posts, it seems a lot of others are having similar problems... so hopefully these suggestions might be helpful. If you have any thoughts as to which of these solutions was the correct one, I would be interested in hearing your opinion.

When you say this data is not synced with your iPhone, none of your MobileMe online data is transferred to your iPhone, or after the initial transfer of this data to your iPhone when you first turned contacts and calendars for over the air syncing with your MobileMe account on your iPhone, the data is not kept synchronized with the MobileMe "cloud"? -
How do I get rid of lip-sync issues with iTunes 10.2.2.12?
Hi Everyone.
Firstly, a very Happy Easter!
I'm having lip-sync issues with iTunes playback on my PC. The video is largely smooth with the occaisional choppiness when the CPU is made to work hard. (Playback on my iPod Touch is fine).
The system stats for my PC are at the bottom of the post.
The sound is produced through a Creative Live Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 card.
Video is through a NVIDIA Geforce 6200 with 512Mb of RAM. (All video and audio drivers are up to date).
The physical set-up is that I have iTunes installed on the C drive and my media installed on an external USB hard-drive.This isn't just a problem with 10.2.2.12 - it's been there for the last few updates.
I suppose my main questions are:
Should iTunes and my media be on the same drive? (Which would mean the external drive as I'm short on space on the C drive).
Is there some combination of settings in QuickTime that will solve this? (I've tried different combinations, but it doesn't really help).
Is the spec (below) of my PC causing any issues.
Here's an Easter Egg for anyone able to help!!

Having sync issues with Outlook 2011 since upgrading to Mavericks
Hi All,
My work Macbook Pro 13" is having issues syncing my inbox and sent mail automatically. It's a hit or miss if I recieve emails in my inbox in a timely mannor with out pressing the Send/Recive button (even when i press it takes minutes to update). My Sent Items can show up an hour later even if I hit the Send/Recieve button.
All my mail is there and shows up/syncs on my iPhone quickly. I upgraded to Mavericks right when it came out and have only been having these sync issues for the last week or so.
I've cleared my mail cache and that didn't work. My calandar reminders and contacts don't seem to have any issues and no other apps have been preforming slow or strangely.... just my VERY important work email. My tech guys are stumped and I wanted to try you guys before they do a major rehaul of my system

BTW, how much free space on your drive? Use Disk Utility in Applications/Utilities to find this info. You need a minimum of 10% free but 15-20% is recommended.
Outlook gets very sluggish when you are low on disk space. If you have a bunch of older Identities from previous rebuilds you can delete these to help free up space. -

everything worked perfectly for a ling long time before i thought it'd be cute to go in and put birthdays into addressbook, and select the option in iCal preferences to add those events to my calendar.
EVERYTHING has gone to **** since then.
the missing sync guys recommend i backup and restore addressbook and iCal.
addressbook did fine.
when i select the saved ICal database file (icbu) from my desktop, it will not complete.
what gives?
i'm trying to do this to fix another problem.
its like every step is making a new issue.
i am getting close to the edge guys...

(overall problem is that i cannot even get missing sync to overwrite my blackberry 8830 now.
for months, iCal, Addressbook, and Tasks synced perfectly.
all was well until i screwed with this stupid Birthday feature.)

IPhone and Windows 7 64 Bit - syncing issues
Hi,
Just wondering if anyone is able to help. I have updated to Windows 7 and am having problems syning my iPhone. It comes up with a multitude of errors but the most common is:
'The iPhone "Michael's iPhone" can not be syned. The required file can not be found.
I have restored the iPhone and after it resets, it sits at the Setup Window in iTunes for ages, then clicks over, starts syncing (it is doind that now) but also displays the error. Will be interesting to see if it actually finishes the sync and to see if the apps work on the phone.
I have also removed iTunes, Quicktime, Mobile App Supprt, Apple Software Updater, Bonjour and reinstalled and still the sync issues coninue. I also ran the diagnostic tool in iTunes on syncing and detecting the iPhone and it reports everything is ok.

I have applied all software updates and the latest chipset drivers for the motherboard. My Nano syncs without a problem. It just seems to be my iPhone.
I have iTunes installed in the defualt directory on C:\ with the mobile apps etc. Music is located on my E:\
I am not sure what to do now....Well, the new gigabyte bios fixed the issue.

Like many others, I got my new IPad 3 and could not sync all of my photos. The highest I got was 1,000 out of 15,000. Today Apple released iTunes 10.6.1.7 that , among other things, said it fixed the sync issue with photos. I excitedly, erased my ipod cache and hit sync. It looked like it was working, but just like before iTunes locked. This time at 2,244 of 15,000. Anybody have an idea of how to fix this?
What's the capacity of your iPad?
iTunes needs up to 3x of the actual size of the files you want to sync during the sync process. And syncing 15.000 photos could cross the size of the available free space on your device.
Don't forget that the pictures are now optimized for the retina display, so the size increases for each of them.
