Alarm/Chime sounds every so often...

Hi All...
Hope someone can PLEASE help me here with (a problem), or maybe not a problem.!!
I recently changed mobile phones and got myself the N8 and I love it.!!
Only thing I am finding is that every so often (Not hourly or even at regular intervals) I find that the phone chimes once as if an Alarm has been set or something similar, But I cannot see ANY alarms turned or or even created.??
Is there something that I am missing in trying to find the culprit.??
Everytime it happens, my wife says to me "Did you just get a cvall or msg on your phone.?" I look and there is nothing new..??

Yep, I also have this problem to add to my list. My chime corresponds to my "Mail alert tone" and goes off in a seemingly random fashion, even though e-mail retrieval is turned OFF. I'll turn the tone off, but it will STILL vibrate at the random time. I will also put an incorrect password as the e-mail password setting. This problem DID NOT exist before ANNA.

Chime sound every ten seconds or so in quick time for pc

Getting a "ding-ding" sound every 10 seconds or so when quicktime pro is open. any one know the answer to this one?? Thanks. Jay

fixed. download loaded latest version. Actually had to do it twice. The first time fixed the chime problem but gave me a green screen on playback. So, I downloaded again and used the "repair" button on install, and everything seems to be working ok.

Single Chime sound every hour

My new 6650 makes a single chime sound between 22-25 minutes past the hour. What does this mean? I have no alarms set.

have you got some kind of alarm set or are you subscrebed to a service called my assistant try disabeling alarms if none work try the following

Extremely subtle quick chirp/knock sound every so often...

Located in the vicinity of the hard drive. It'll happen randomly, sometimes a few times a minute and sometimes not at all for minutes at a time, and only one quick little bleep for a quick second. It's sometimes more quiet than at others, and is audible even with the speakers off. The hard drive may be doing something, but this noise can and does occur even without anything running. It's almost the sound your tongue makes when you roll it against the upper back part of your mouth, and ever so quietly. It's really more annoying than anything, and even concerns me to a degree.

Thanks for your reply, but I had already turned the sound off there. I also removed email from the notifications shortcut on the top right of the screen.

Clunk sound every 30 secs or so, how Do I turn this off?

I have a new MBP and it's driving me crazy. It makes this thunk/clunk sound every 20 to 30 seconds or so. It's not loud, but is very annoying at night, when everything is quiet (except my new wonderful computer). It sounds like a low xylophone tap. I opened sounds to try and identify the sound. After listening to all the alert sounds, this sound is not there. any ideas what might be causing it? and how can I turn it off?

mbp 15" 2.16GHz, G3 blueberry iBook, white 2GB nano Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Mine does that as well (when the machine is idling). But since my tibook used to do that as well (and many laptops from other brands), i never saw it as something out of the ordinary.
Does your MBP do that often, or maybe even when the drive is not idle? If so, it could be related to Sudden Motion Sensor.
You could try disabling it temporarily to see if that changes anything. The instructions are here:

Also, you can try ticking off the "Put the hard drive(s) to sleep" option in Energy Saver (in Preferences) although i doubt it will change anything.

Boot chimes sound but the screen stays dark - why?

Our iBook (16 VRAM) 700 has appeared to die. The normal boot chimes sound when the power switch is pressed (but only after a forced quit) but the screen stays dark and no hard drive activity can be heard.
Is this probably the "dreaded logic board video chip problem" I have read about in several places?
If so how do I rescue important files (like my wife's novel)!!! Strip the computer down and pull the hard drive? It was running Panther so there is no Time Machine backup.

Have you tried starting up in Safe Mode? (This probably won't work, but it's worth a try.)
After leaving it sit overnight, does squeezing the case to the left of the trackpad allow you to start up and work for a bit as long as you keep the pressure on it there? If so, you may want to consider trying the shim fix suggested by John Sawyer in the Apple Discussions iBook G3 (Dual USB) Displays Forum:
[Y]ou can often fix this yourself by removing the iBook's bottom housing, and placing a shim of any sort, about 1mm to 1.5mm thick, onto the raised square on the bottom shield. I use a Scotch mounting square--you can get them in hardware stores and many grocery stores. When you reinstall the bottom case, it will press against this shim, which will press against the graphics chip, and may allow the chip to come into better contact with the logic board.

Weird tick every so often

So I just got a last gen MBP 2.5gHz 15". Every so often, whether it's plugged in or using battery, I'll hear a faint digital "tick". It's not the HD, the clock, the battery indicator, or the fans, but just a "tick". Anyone know what this is??

But the real point is:
It's a new machine. One shouldn't have to mess with anything. It should work for a bit, then if you decide to upgrade or install other parts ... then you can. But out of the box, these things shouldn't have these weird variations on them.
Some have it, some don't. Sounds like you do.
Worse part about it is trying to take it an Apple store and telling them what is wrong with it. Everyone will look at you like you just killed their cat.
"Huh? A noise? ... Nope, I don't hear any noise ... are you sure?". All the while your in a noisy atmosphere in the Apple store.
Live with it if you can ... if not ... tell them to replace the HD. But watch out ... I am having issues with that too.

MacBook Air keeps playing the restart sound every few hours

So my Macbook Air keeps playing the restart sound every few hours. It's that "Dummmmmmmm" sound when you first boot up the computer. Things I noticed: when the sound played and I quickly went to open my laptop it was like nothing has happened - I had my Google Chrome window from the previous session open, everything was just normal as if I had just opened the laptop to resume using it. This has only happened when the Mac is folded up. Today it just happened at approximately 10:00 and here's the log:

ITunes locks my iMac every so often?

Every so often, but pretty regularly, iTunes seems to cause my mouse or iMac to lock up?
It's been doint this ever since I migrated my old iMac computer files to my ne iMac.
Any ideas?

You can only restore them from a backup. This has occurred because you are sharing an iCloud account. Ideally you should each have your own iCloud account, that way you can each manage your own mail, contacts, calendars, documents etc and avoid unintentional deletions and unwanted editing. If there is information you wish to share between you, this can be done with a secondary account.
Having separate iCloud accounts, doesn't mean you have to have separate iTunes accounts, so whilst you keep your personal data separate, you can continue to share music, apps, books, TV shows, movies etc.

After clicking "repair disk" it says DISK UTILITY STOPPED REPAIRING MACINTOSH HD, DISK UTILITY CAN't REPAIR THIS DISK. BACK UO AS MANY OF YOUR FILES AS POSSIBLE, REFORMAT THE DISK, AND RESTORE YOUR BACKED -UP FILES....

Disk eject sound every 30 seconds

If it's a click click, it may well be the sound of a dying hard drive. Back up all your data to a firewire external as soon as you can, I use SuperDuper! to make a bootable clone.
