Alarm doesn't sound

On occasion, the alarm that's set will visually be working, but no sound to actually wake you up will happen.  Snooze, etc comes up on the screen, but there's no alarm sound.  Resetting the phone does not resolve the issue.  I have determined the problem to be that when an e-mail arrives a moment before the alarm is to activate, the sound from the e-mail arriving will over-ride the alarm wake up sound.
This is an issue that hasn't been fixed.  I've run into this issue before on my previous generations iPhones (4S, 5 and now 6).

You'll need to report that directly to Apple as they don't monitor these forums. http://www.apple.com/feedback

  • Alarm doesn't sound on some occasions

    Hi there,
I am having issues with alarm on the iPhone 4, I have set an alarm with the following settings :-

    Label                 Alarm

On some occasion, the alarm doesn't sound although it does vibrate - what is causing this issue?
    Any ideas?

  • The alarm doesn't sound a second time though the snooze IS enabled

Whether I pick up my phone 10 min later or an hour later it shows the alarm screen where it says tap to hit snooze or slide to shut off (or whatever it is). Like it's still set and the alarm is going off and it's waiting for me to shut it off (though there's no alarm sounding). It goes off the first time and that's it. The snooze is enabled, the volume is up. I have fallen back to sleep multiple times as I rely on my phone alarm. I have gone through the settings of the alarm and everything is set perfectly.

Submit a "bug report" on the Apple Feedback page. Sounds like something they should fix.

  • My alarm doesn't sound, starting today 1/1/12

My alarm has worked fine for the past 1.5 years.  Starting today, 1/1/12 (not sure if that has anything to do with it), the alarm does not go off.  I've tried several things on the settings and the only thing I can get to work is to set it to Repeat -- then it sounds.  Problem is, I'd like it to work even for 1-time alarms.

It's not a fix as such and it's only temporary untill I can find a permanent fix but changing the date to any date in 2011 in Settings means the alarm works. Like I say, it's not ideal but it means I can wake up for work on time!

    Hey Amiee_19,
Thanks for the question. It sounds like your Ring/Silent switch may be toggled:
    Ring/Silent switch - iPhone
    http://help.apple.com/iphone/7/#/iph3bd01398
    Ring/Silent switch
Flip the Ring/Silent switch to put iPhone in ring mode or silent mode .
In ring mode, iPhone plays all sounds. In silent mode, iPhone doesn’t ring or play alerts and other sound effects.
Important: Clock alarms, audio apps such as Music, and many games play sounds through the built-in speaker, even when iPhone is in silent mode. In some areas, the sound effects for Camera and Voice Memos are played, even if the Ring/Silent switch is set to silent.
For information about changing sound and vibration settings, see Sounds and silence.
Use Do Not Disturb. You can also silence calls, alerts, and notifications using Do Not Disturb. Swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen to open Control Center, then tap the Do Not Disturb button . See Do Not Disturb.
If the above does not resolve your issue, see this article:
iPhone: No sound or distorted sound from speaker

  • IPod Classic alarm doesn't work

I've used the alarm successfully on my old iPod Classic 60GB, now on the new iPod Classic 160GB it doesn't work anymore (I tried every option I could think of (with & without headphones, while keeping it on/off, etc., even enabling the clicker sound which seems to be the solution on iPhones, even after a full restore etc., etc., etc.)… but there seems to be a solution because I found this message:
a certain user "jaz271", had a similar problem, then added "Sorted" but doesN'T TELL HOW… what the use of putting such messages if there is not even a single way to contact the author?
Please help me out on [email protected]
    Thanks.
PS: Also bizarre: the function on the old iPod Classic (60GB) vanished since the latest update. SO no more alarm on Ipod Classic 60GB.

I had the same problem -- alarm doesn't work on iPod Classic 160 GB, meaning I can't use it to listen to music to put me to sleep since the headphones block out any external alarm. I assumed it was something I'd done wrong, but viewing this and an even earlier (2007) thread, it looks like an Apple bug that hasn't been fixed in five years. APPLE PLEASE HELP! This is not what we expect from you.

  • My 17" Macbook Pro battery swelled up and kind of exploded. The apple genuis said it is still safe to use, that doesn't sound right.

I am just kind of worried that it doesn't even fit. Do I need to kind of pop the expanded portion of the battery to get it to fit back in? The case of the battery has come apart and so to fit it back in I would have to press it back together. The battery is low count and had great capacity when it happened. I don't want to have to buy another one when this one is fairly new.

... The apple genuis said it is still safe to use, that doesn't sound right.
I agree with you, that's not right.
This may seem to be a little problem - fix it before it becomes a big one.

  • IPad Air alarm makes no sound

We set an alarm at 4:30AM for a flight. The alarm made no sound and we slept late. It seems none of the ringtones make any sound but only show the alarm message on the lock screen. I have verified that the sound was set to full volume. The alerts setting page also does not make any sound when tapping on an alert tone for a preview.

I had no alarm sound on my ipad (os7) and tried several of the suggestions here. Problem was several things conspiring to confuse.
First, the mute bell on the alarm is independent of the ipad volume control, so it can be (and was) muted when the ipad was at full volume. Look carefully at what the prompt with the bell icon says when you touch it . . . It is muted when grayed out, not when bold . . . Confusing BC both cases show a hashed (muted?) bell symbol.
Once I figured this out, I discovered that the alarm sounds and volume are controlled via the SETTINGS app.  It was set to zero volume. To confuse further, this volume can be linked to the ipad volume control (or not) with a switch below the volume slider. If you choose to link to your volume control, then all bets are off since you won't remember whether you last muted your YouTube/iTunes/whatever before going to sleep. In plain language, don't choose to link alarm volume with ipad volume.
I think this explains some complaints about "random" instances of no alarm sound. They are probably self-inflicted and inadvertent.

  • My alarm clock doent sound now that I have 7.0. Any body know why? how to fix it?

my alarm clock doesnt sound since I updated to 7.0 .. how do i turn up the volume so my alarm isnt silent?

I found that what worked to correct this issue on my iPhone 4S was to turn off automatic app updates. I went to Settings - iTunes & App Store - and under Automatic Downloads, switched Updates to off. My apps that were stuck in 'Waiting' immediately began downloading.
Although I would like to be able to use the automatic update feature, at least I found a fix to the 'waiting' issue for now.

It pains me to hear about your experience with the Home Phone Connect.  This device usually works seamlessly and is a great alternative to a landline phone.  It sounds like we've done our fair share of work on your account here.  I'm going to go ahead and send you a Private Message so that we can access your account and review any open tickets for you.  I look forward to speaking with you.

  • Music of imported pps files doesn't sound on Keynote

I got Keynote on my Ipad, and when I import pps files, its music doesn't sound. It's very strange because the same file, I open it in powerpoint in my mac and it works fine, the musics perfect. So what's the problem? Can i do something on my mac to get this pps file to work with music on my iPad keynote?
    thank you

How could I NOT import them? Appointments I do "by hand" show up immediately on the other devices. The imported appointments show up after modification.

  • My iPad doesn't sound?

    My iPad doesn't sound?

After some tinkering, I have found that that was the problem.
I had the setting for the side switch to lock the rotation rather than mute.
This worked fine for locking and unlocking screen rotation but had a strange effect on mute.
Whether it was on or off, system sounds were muted.
Therefore, I changed the setting to Mute instead of Rotation Lock.  This got me back the sounds.
Once I knew system sounds worked, I then switched Rotation Lock back on and, hey presto, everything OK.
Never even noticed the Mute icon to the left of playback controls (double home and swipe right).  Perhaps that would also fix it.
Thanks for your pointer JimHdk - you were a great help.

  • My Keyboard doesn´t sound

I have activated the sound for my keyboard but it doesn´t sound. Of course I have checked that the volume is activated too.
    Any idea about what´s happening?
    Regards.

Do you get other notification sounds ? If not then have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the iPod and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085

  • Exported song doesn't sound the same

Why is it that when you export a song from GB it doesn't sound as good in my opinion? I deliberately created a song where my meters were in the red much of the song but once I exported it and it normalized it sounded like the master should be boosted up.

Are you exporting to iTunes and do you have Auto Normalize checked in GB Prefs? If so, uncheck and export again.

  • My iphone4 doesn't sound, anyone experienced the same prob?

my iphone4 doesn't sound, how can I tackle the prob

My iPhone 4S was doing the same thing.  The sound would come and go on the speaker but it would work fine with a headset.  Read something on here that suggested the phone "thought" it has a headset connected.  Fixed the issue by quickly plugging and unplugging the headset a few times.  Blew in the hole and shook it to ensure nothing was stuck in there.
    Seems it worked.
