Alarm Forwarding on SMC 3.6

I notice that SMC 3.6 has a configuration option for alarms to be forwarded to a management tool via SNMP trap. It appears that this would allow the SMC administrator to define Alarm conditions and forward the the management station. Can anyone point me to a MIB file or contents of the SNMP trap that is sent?
There seems to be a fair bit of information on manually setting SNMP parameters on previous versions. Is this required with the latest version.

Richard

EventAction: http://www.halcyoninc.com/products/EventAction/index.php
Adapter for Frameworks (SNMP): http://www.halcyoninc.com/products/Frameworks/index.php
This combo ships with a MIB for your management station (/var/opt/SUNWsymon/cfg/HALAdapterFrameworks.mib) and a human readable version of the trap fields (http://www.halcyoninc.com/products/Frameworks/help/HALAdapterFrameworks-details-h.html)
If you have any questions about hos to set this up on the SunMC side, feel free to contact me.

  • Alarm forwarding from rfid tags (Aeroscout)

    Hello all,
I have an issue regarding alarm forwarding from rfid tags, to 3rd party systems via sms or e-mail
When the alarmbutton on the Aeroscout T3 tag is pushed, we would like the following info to be
    forwarded: tag-name and current location.
As it is now, the forwarded data seems only to contain tag info, not location info (the wireless network
and the location services works flawlessly).
Does anyone out there have any pointers as to how i could set this up properly, or
maybe point me in the right direction for a doc or link on the matter?
    Current setup:
    Cisco 1300 AP's
Cisco 4400 WLC + Cisco CT 5508 controllers
    Cisco MSE 3300 location appliance
    Cisco WCS management
    Aeroscout T3 Rfid
If any more info is needed to help out on this, please let me know and i'll do my best.
    Best regards
    Ole V.

If you want to statically place an Aeroscout tag you can do that in Mobileview.  This wouldn't be a bad idea for a tag that is never going to move.
I'm presuming your using the Aeroscout CLE for tag tracking and PI has nothing to do with the location measurements.  Aeroscout engine (CLE) 4.5 improved floor hopping errors and there might be some other filtering or changes you could make in Aeroscout's System Manager to help with floor hopping as well.  I would suggest that you contact Aeroscout/Stanley support as this is more on their end.
    Thanks,

  • SMC 3.5 console don't have alarm tab

    Hi,
I have installed smc 3.5 and chose only Advanced System Monitoring during installation. When I start the smc console my main menu window don't have the alarms tab and the other tabs. It only have the info and module browser tab.
Is anybody knows what causing this.
    TIA

Sounds like a Config-Reader issue; Your hardware has not been identified by the SunMC agent setup properly.
A few things cause this.. Newer hardware that could require a supplement (or older version of SunM).
Messing with the boot banner can cause confusion in identifying the hardware (rare, but it happens).
What version SunMC are you using, and what platform are you running it on?
On the info tab, it tells you what it has identified the hardware as .. something similar to what is displayed by the 'uname' command. It is under the "Entity Family" field in this tab. What does it say there?
See the supplement docs, for which ones might apply here : http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/coll/810.3

  • SMC 3.5 Alarm window not picking up active alarms

Currently the alarm window is not picking up active alarms.

Currently the alarm window is not picking up active
    alarms.
I can see them when I drill down through thebrowser
to the specific items but can not
see them in the alarm tab window. This usually indicates that the Server your Agent is
sending its alarms to is not the same one you logged
the Console into. The main window alarms come directly
from your Agent, whereas the Alarms tab is populated
from the Oracle database on your SunMC Server.
Did you recently install a new SunMC Server and
    migrate old Agents to it?
On your Agent click on the Info tab, and look at the
IPs of "Entity Trap Destination" and "Entity Event
Destination". Is that the same IP of the Server you
specified when you logged into the Console?
    Regards.
Note: I am an employee of Halcyon
    (www.HalcyonInc.com)
Thanks for your reply, I checked the info tab, and everyone reports back to the IP of the SMC Server correctly. This was a migration from 2.1.1 to 3.5 some time ago.

  • SMC 3.0 - Prob in acknowledging alarms

    Hi,
I am using Sun Management Center 3.0, Solaris 8, E450 box. While tryin to acknowledge any alarms I am getting the below error.
    "Exception occured while acknowledging alarm
Error in action on - acknowledging alarm
    Agent is not responding"
It would be great if anyone can shed some light in it.
    Thank you,
    Manjunath

    Hi Manjunath
Don't know whether you are still having the same problem, but mine was being caused by the fact that each agents hostname was not present in the Sun MC Servers hosts file. This I found annoying as I hadnt used hostnames when I setup the agents, and there is no mention of this in any of the documentation.
It actually took Sun over 2 months to spot it, they had me trying everything to get this sorted, but it was the hosts file that was the problem.
So make sure that the server can resolve the agents hostname correctly.
Hope this helps you are someone else.

  • Start the SMC GUI with special configuration/look and feel

    Hello,
I forwarding alarm to another management system. Now I might again back.
I woulkd like to launch the SMC console and the Alarm tab should be shown directly.
It would be even better if directly the information of an special alarm is shown.
Does somebody have an idea for it?
    Thanks

    Hi Dholze,
I need only the part "that link back to the specific
alarm information withing a SunMC console".
Do you have an idea how to create this Back-URL?
CheersI know we have a small Java utility will launch the SunMC Console against one host in particular (i.e. instead of the user being dropped in a Domain and having to hunt for the correct system (default) they open directly to the host with the alarm (like double-clicking the icon for that host in the Console)).
They will be in the Module Browser tab so they can see the alarm lit up in colour, not in the Alarms tab though.
I think it's shipped with our Netcool integration software, but it can be used anywhere.

  • Exporting data from SMC database

    Hi,
We are planning on pulling data captured by SMC to populate our CMDB (BMC Atrium). What is the common or suggested approach for getting data out? Seems like some options are
    * using the Java API
    * using the export utility
    * directly pulling from the database?
Has anyone had any experience attempting similar? Specifically for Atrium?
Also, there seems to be pretty good documentation around the Java API and the export utility. Is there a data model for the underlying database? Or is the fact I cannot find anything a hint that going straight to the database is not allowed or supported or recommended?
Thanks for your help. I know very little about SMC so I need all the help I can get!
    Graham!

    Hi Graham,
You can find the client API documentation here: http://dlc.sun.com/pdf/819-5203/819-5203.pdf
Alternatively, Halcyon has an add-on called EventAction (http://www.halcyoninc.com/products/EventAction/index.php) that sits on the SunMC server and as agents trigger alarms, EventAction & an adapter will forward them to a framework like Tivoli or BMC Patrol. This is the more common (& supported) approach since pulling directly from the database is not supported nor is it recommended.
Another option, as you have pointed out, is to export the SunMC database. The schema of the database is not published and therefore may change in any given moment. It would take quite a bit of work in order to figure out how the database is architected.

  • On Screen Keyboard Stopped Working in Alarm Mode [...

I have had a Nokia E51 for about 4 years - I used it till it literally stopped working. That phone started out great, but gave me A LOT of trouble and I started to hate it around month 6.
Fast forward a few years and I need to buy a new phone. I search around and find a phone that has OFFLINE GPS! Whoa! Also, great reviews! I am sold. Turns out it's another Nokia (C6-01).
I have had this thing for about 2.5 months now and I am getting really really paranoid considering my history with Nokia phones. They have always surprised me in a very negative way after initially seducing me. I want to love Nokia, but the phone's always prevent me.
Anyway, Last night I tried to set an alarm on my c6-01 and when I tried to alter the time by tapping the text field, THE ON SCREEN KEYBOARD DID NOT SHOW UP. f*ck.  Basically, according to my phone, I could only wake up at 11:15 AM - despite having work at 8:00 AM.
I did do a recent software update a few weeks ago, but from what I remember, the keyboard worked after this update.
Anyone have any ideas? I am pretty sure I am still under warranty and if that's the case, I am just going to return it to Amazon and never touch another nokia.
    Thanks
    My phone Info:
    Model: C6-01
    Type: RM-601
    Release: Nokia Belle Refresh
    Software Version: 111.040.1511
    Software Version date: 2012-07-28

@adrianhughes: Holy c.r.a.p Thanks man. That worked.
I was starting to sweat. Phew.
I really hope this phone won't give me any issues because I am tired of getting a divorce in the middle of a really happy relationship filled with great sex nokia phones giving me trouble.

  • Does anyone know of an ap that will auto call forward all voice calls from my iphone4 to a different number (office) at set times each day? IE - i want my business iphone to automatically call forward at 0830am weekdays and cancel the call forward at 6pm

I am trying to find an app that will automatically forward all voice calls at preset times each day
    IE - at 083am weekdays
and automatically cancel the call forward at 6pm weekdays
At the moment i am doing it manually with alarms set to remind me
Seems a pretty basic "want" but - i cant find anything
And APPLE - make it easier to find APPS in the APP store - wy not have a search feature that you can type in what you are looking for??
    Thanks!!

There are no apps to do what you want, that's why you can't find any. No app would have access to the necessary API's to do this, thus only Apple could implement such. You can suggest such to Apple here:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
Another suggestion is to look at Google Voice. I don't know if it offers these specific features or not, but it is highly customizable.

  • This morning when I turned my macbook pro on, an alarm sound came from my computer and a thin, short line of light was flashing next to the pulsing light that did not come on.  The pulser light has not come on at all today.

This morning an alarm sound accompanied by a flashing thin light happened when I turned on my macbook pro.  Now the pulser light is not coming on at all and there is a steady thin light to the left of the pulser that stays on when I close my laptop.  Does anyone know what may have happened?

That seems like a memory problem.

  • Macbook Pro Randomly Shuts down...SMC Reset only temporarily

I have a somewhat concerning problem with my 2011 Macbook Pro (15").
It started two nights ago, didn't happen yesterday, and happened again today.  It has also fried two iPhone chargers.  Here's the story:
On Sunday night, my Macbook randomly shut down.  Wouldn't restart, nor would it even charge (the LED on the charger didn't even come on).  So after trying everything I could (namely, PRAM, SMC, etc.), I finally took the bottom of the computer off, unplugged the battery internally, did a hard reset of the SMC, and everything was back up and running.  That night, I got a strange error when I plugged my iPhone in to charge:  USB is using too much power and has been disabled, or something along those lines.  Weird--but my computer didn't shut down again, so I shrugged it off.
Fast forward to tonight--all worked fine until I plugged a NEW iphone charger into the computer.  This same cord worked fine this afternoon, but I got the "USB drawing too much power" message and then nothing.  The computer shut off, had to unscrew the bottom and do another hard reset, and here I am.
I've tried to figure out just what might have caused this.  I did buy a charger from my university's bookstore that I do not think was Apple branded.  Is it possible that it somehow fried my battery? Or do I have a bigger issue - motherboard, RAM, etc.? The computer (when I get it to finally power back up) works fine and no files have been lost, so I don't think it's harddrive related.
If anyone can shed some light on this problem, please let me know.  I've searched for a long time to find a problem similar to mine and haven't found any answers other than the generic "Reset SMC," or "Reset PRAM."  I know how to and have done both of these things.  Do I need a new battery? I ordered a charger directly from Apple and have only used it since the first shut down.

There's only a limited amount of things you can do on a laptop repair-wise: tiny and tightly packed components are a far cry from yesteryear's huge boxes with individual removables.
Is the USB error coming in regardless of which USB slot you use? Have you reproduced this error with other USB devices that draw a charging current or significant power?
If the problem is indeed that USB is drawing too much power, it could be a short in the USB circuitry, or it could be a short with your phone. Try charging someone else's iPhone. The concept with current is that it's "pushed by voltage" and "drawn by a resistance in a closed circuit." If the voltage is too high, or if the resistance is too low (short circuit), then you will end up where you're at.
Also, it could be helpful to review your system log. In spotlight, write "terminal" then type in the shell prompt (without the quotes) "cp /var/log/system.log ~" this will put a file on your desktop that you can open with a text viewer, search for the word "USB" towards the end of the file, and see what you can make of it. Post anything here that seems suspicious. Warning: it'll be cryptic and hard to read!
    So,
    - Try different USB slots on your computer
    - Try different USB power-drawing devices
    - Try different iPhones or iPods
    - Review the system log and post any suspicious lines

  • Alarm & Event Query To Spreadsheet File VI doesn't work correctly (DSC 7.1)

I am using the Alarm & Event Query To Spreadsheet File VI to write alarms/events to an Excel spreadsheet. However there are two things it does wrong:
    1. Global variables in the header are not correctly inserted. I am using the header "{creationDate}{delimiter}{creationTime}" but none of the variables are translated to their actual values. The same header in Write Traces To Spreadsheet VI works correctly, so I assume it is only the Alarm & Event Query To Spreadsheet File VI that isn't working.
    2. My display format is set to display the date of the alarms but it never appears. Set time/ACK time, etc all appear, just not the date.
Can anyone explain what might be wrong?

    Hi AndrewWilliams,
I have been looking into this problem for you and I can't quite figure out exactly what it is you are trying to do. Could you possibly send me your VI's (for the Alarm & Event Query To Spreadsheet File VI and for the Write Traces To Spreadsheet VI) so I can get a better idea of it.
Have you looked at the Export Alarms to File VI in the LabVIEW examples that are installed with the DSC module. This is a very good VI and it might help you to see any faults in your code.
Hope this helps, I look forward to speaking to you soon.

  • Not too long ago I was able to delete personal info from forwarded emails in Hotmail, but not now. Works fine in IE. What's wrong and where? Txs

Being paranoid, I like to delete personal info (email addresses, etc.) from emails I'm forwarding. Ican do this right now in IE, but not Firefox.
I had been running FF4(?), but downgraded to FF3.5 because of some other issues, but I don't recall when the problem with email started (before or after downgrade).
IE9 allows me to delete this personal info from forwarded emails.

Try an SMC reset. The article covers when this is required, but doing this will not affect anything.
