Alarm in z10

How to set multiple alarms in z10?

This may well be the case so your choice is either wait for 10.2 (or install the leaked OS now) or pay for one of those apps.

  • Z10, Alarm and Bedside Mode

Now I've been under the impression that unlike former Blackberry phones the Z10 uses it's Bedside Mode so you can use the Alarm, however I have the problem that the phone despite being in Bedside Mode will turn itself off during the night and thus I don't even hear the alarm. Only reason I've even woken up is my old phone's alarm. So is there something I'm missing or is my phone just messed up?

Z10 Alarm doesn't work when phone is turned off, so I put my phone into bedside mode to charge it overnight. However network provider (so I was told today by mine) push network updates out overnight. Could this cause your phone to reboot etc?
Anyway, if you dont apply the updates your Z10 will slow pushing emails, pulling browser pages, drop calls. If your phone is left on, even in bedside mode, then they wont be received/ applied.
ST options are get a separate alarm or leave Z10 on but (periodically, in the morning) remove battery and SIM, wait, put both back in (Z10 SIM "re-finds" the network, identifies and pulls the required network updates). Did it just now and Z10 a lot happier (probably result in more efficient battery usage also!).
A colleague has an iphone and noted the alarm comes on even when the phone is fully turned off overnight. Time to think about fixing this bug BB - negates the "benefit" of bedside mode cant have phone not performing well because of something like this?

  • Z10 Alarm doesn't wake up the phone

All other blackberries I've had woke up the phone when I had it plugged in overnight.  Just got the Z10 and it doesn't seem to do that.  When I finally wake up and turn on the phone the alarm goes off, but I would like to have it wake the phone, and me at the time I set.
    Any way to do that?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    No.
Place your Z10 in Bedside mode. While in the alarm app itself, swipe down from the top bezel > Bedside mode.
You can configure bedside mode to leave the phone ringer on or off. email and account notifications are silenced by design.
If pugged to the charger, the clock will show faintly, if not charging, the screen remains black.

  • Z10 clock - next alarm is wrong

    Hi all,
I'm hoping someone might be able to help with what is a minor, albeit annoying, quirk I've found with my new Z10.  I have two alarm clocks set - one for weekdays and one for weekends.  Both appear to function correctly but when I'm in the clock app, the 'next alarm' always shows as my weekday alarm (presumably as it's my main alarm) even when the actual next alarm should be the weekend alarm.  If I toggle the weekday alarm to 'off', it then does show the weekend alarm correctly.
Any idea how to keep both alarms toggled to 'on' but so that it shows the next alarm correctly?
    Many thanks in advance

In analogue mode the alarms start at the top of the list. Switching the first one off brings up the next one on the list.
The icons round the clock show next alarm.
Change to digital and your problem will be solved.
Swipe down, Settings, Clock Face - Digital.

  • On my blackberry torch I was able to turn the phone off after I set the alarm and the alarm rang at the correct time and started the phone. I cannot do this with the z10. Anyone have a solution?

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

As the BB10 phones are completely different to the older BBOS devices. Some features don't exist anymore. You can set the phone to bedtime mode at night. It will not ring or alert you. But the alarm will go off.

  • Lack of settings in Z10

Anybody else disappointed with the lack of settings on the Z10 vs the Bold?
For instance you can not set the number of vibrates when you have a notification
When you plug in your phone to a charger you can not set it up to go into Bedside Mode
and a few other little things that I really liked about the OS7
unless I'm not doing something right, can someone tell me how?
    Thanks

Old news, there are many posts here about this already.
The Notification granularity from prior BBoSes is not yet available in profiles.... yet.
We are all hoping that these will be added into the OS in newer OS versions.
Bedside mode is enabled by pulling down the "shade" (swipe down from the top) on the lock screen, or by going into the alarm and pulling down the top menu.

  • My opinion of the Z10

It's just another Blackberry as far as I'm concerned. Nothing much has changed since 1999 when BB first came onto the market. Here's why I feel that way. I would have thought that throughout the development of the 10 platform BB would have gone out of its way to get companies on board BEFORE it hit the streets. Instead we're missing the simple things iPhone and android had years ago. The first is Skype. It should have been part of the package right out of the box. iPhone has Facetime, BB has nothing. Skype would have been the next best thing. Battery life is horrible for a 2013 device. I get roughly 5 hours out of my Z10 and that's just talking and emails. I really don't use apps much. But speaking of apps. As a real estate professional there are industry apps which are readily available on older BBs and of course every iPhone and android device. Not on the 10 platform. We'll probably never see the Ekey on the 10 because, as the Ekey people said, there's not enough demand. Real estate agents have abandoned BB in favor of iPhones and android devices. The zoom function SUCKS. Regardless of how I try it does nothing. If I pinch the screen the entire screen pulls in and then pops back doing nothing. I get email like from Banana Republic, that has pictures etc but they show up as ? Marks. I have to wait until I'm back on my notebook or iPad to see what the email contains. Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. I don't care if they're there or not but to have them on my home screen AND the HUB is just stupid. Are these considered that important to have them twice? I can see the message on the app then go to the HUB to mark the message as read. Email. On my old Torch I would read an email on my device and the email would be marked read everywhere else. And visa versa. Not on the Z10. I can read a gmail or yahoo email in the actual email on my notebook and on my Z10 they're still unread. And why not have an email icon next to the text or BBM icons? Seriously, why go back and forth to the HUB? No select, cut and paste of email addresses. I mean, go into an existing email and try copying the senders email address. You can't. You can only save into your contacts. Then open a new email and select the contact. You can copy and paste text but not email address within an email header. Someone said it might get corrected with an update but so far, nothing. Forwarding an email does not include the email header either. I forwarded an email to a coworker and asked him to please write back to the lady. He called to tell me the email forwarded but the header with the senders email was not included. It only showed the senders name. Maps suck. I can't get the BB maps to work. I downloaded Google maps and though they look fine I can't zoom or drag my finger across the map to move it. Same problem with the BB maps. No QR reader. No password keeper. I had to download both and figure out how to get my passwords to move o the new "safe". Amazing how Facebook and Twitter were there but password keeper was left out. All in all the best part of this device is the keyboard. That's one thing that BB hit out of the park. But the glass surface is not the same quality as the iPhone surface. You have to be extra careful with it. Alarm. Why doesn't it work when the device is off? Seriously!! I have to reset the sounds to silent then put it in bedside if I need the alarm the next morning. Otherwise, the alarm goes off only when you turn the phone on in the morning. Otherwise, I go back to my original comment. Same ole, same ole. Nothing super exciting or innovating IMHO. I'm seriously thinking of going back and trading it for a Bold. I could care less about Facebook and Twitter. I need a solid phone with good email functions and maps and the Ekey for my work. I forgot to mention that the Z10 doesn't connect to my cars audio system. My Torch did perfectly so I could play my music through the auxiliary input while traveling. My old iPod does it too. But not the Z10.

    Hello,
It seems that many of your questions are "why" questions. Please do understand that this is a user-to-user community. Unless the answer comes from a clearly identified BB employee (who sometimes comment here), any answers you receive here will be non-authoritative, theoretical and supposition only (though they will normally be an honest attempt to help you out as best they can).
To truly answer such a "why" question requires access to insider information, which is specifically prohibited (in the Ts and Cs) from revelation on this site, and consequently answers about that are limited to the formal and official answers that BlackBerry provides publicly.
This site is best suited to factual discussions about "what is" and "how to" regarding "what is"..."why", what "should be", and other such discussions venture out of scope of the primary intended use of this site, and discussions about such would be theoretical and supposition based, not authoritative.
Both Arsen and BillJ have kindly tried to help you with your questions, and I hope you appreciate their volunteer spirit in doing so...for, like you, they are just other users, who kindly tried to provide you with some insight. But they cannot provide you with anything that violates the Ts and Cs of this site.

  • I hate the new Z10, handing it over to my wife

I am a Blackberry poweruser. I have Blackberry everywhere along with all accessoirs. The background is, that I am travelling with 4 phones, for every country I have businesses in one phone. I bought the Playbook, to have a quick online banking done and to bigscreen view my emails. When talking emails - I have overall 32 email accounts, most of them with complicated server settings and I was p***ed having to add them one by one (not all of them are working).
Now I bought the Z10, about which I read before and I was excited while waiting for it to arrive.
To make a long story short - I hate it.
The only thing, that migrated from my 9900 was my address book with 960 entries. Email accounts needed to be add manually (10 of the above).
    - No password keeper (needed to download it separatly - why?)
    - No free google maps (dont tell me about sideload)
    - No "select all" function in messages (it does happen, that after a meeting I have to delete almost every message out of a hundred one by one (also dont remind me of the select multiple function)
    - Blackberry Bridge - why having a Playbook with the Z10, when nothing but the internet connection is shared? I could read/write messages, tasks, calender, no I can do nothing. I don't really need the Playbook anymore, because it lost its main ability. Over my 9900 i had the full internet speed on my Playbook, over the Z10 i have literally 59 kb / s!
    - I hated to download another app for the new OS - why is the desktop software still available when link is needed to get to make it work?
    - The maps are available for half of the countries I am travelling in. No Poland, Czech Republic, Ukraine, Russia?
    - When sleeping I had my 9900 turned off and it went on for the alarm in the morning. When shutting down the Z10, there is no possibility to have the alarm bring the phone back on. So basically you need to turn the phone on, to get the alarm working, which should have worked 30 minutes ago.
    - I can change the sound for let's say the telephone but there is only the one loudness - no raising sound available. No possibility to change sounds for each email account.
    - Most of all - What the f**k happend to the perfectly working push mail? Don't tell me, that messages arrive faster than they did, because the don't. When deleting a message on the Z10, I need to do the same on the Playbook and on my PC(s). I know why - RIM thought "why having customers to get extra blackberry plans, when Apple doesn't do that? We could sell the new phone to anyone, even kids and housewifes" - Here is why i hate it - this is what made Blackberry big. Some time ago a friend asked me, what in particular is so good with Blackberry phones (she's a Samsung user) and I said it's the email possibilities. She said, that she'd also check her emails over her smartphone, then I said, that it was faster and more reliable. What can I tell her know? Maybe "Now I have the same s**t you have, but I paid for it a little more and have less apps available".
    - When clicking BBM on the hub, you only get to see active chats, you need to enter the app from the menu, to get the contacts list.
Good things to say about that phone compairing to 9900 is the camera and its focusing, the calculator
My wife likes it (she also has a 9900). It's "cute" and it has linkedin app and she is using the phone only for private use, so she's getting it. Too bad she is not also a facebook, twitter and what not user. Then she would be thrilled about this smart(?)phone of RIMs.
If RIM is going to concentrate on OS10, forgetting about professional users and forgetting about OS7, that this will be my last Blackberry phone and the last for my companies - and we have over 60 of those. (And no, we don't use BES).
Sorry for the chaotic thread, but I am just expressing my anger.

    JeepXJ wrote:
they thought moving away from BIS was a good idea?  I just dont get it.
    Consider...
In some regions of the world, BIS was included at no additional cost. In other regions, BIS included unlimited BIS data usage. In still other regions, BIS is an add-on cost on top of the also-required "normal" data plan.
Example -- in the USA, there are no low-cost unlimited BIS plans. The lowest cost BIS plan I could find was US$50/month, and included very limited data usage (250MB, I think). By abandoning BIS and allowing services to function via a "normal" data plan, I am able to operate my Z10 for a mere US$30/month which includes 5GB of 4G data (throttled after that level). So, for me, abandoning BIS actually allowed me to have a fully functional BB again where, when BIS was required, the monthly cost factor made that prohibitive.
While we cannot know the true "insider" information that surrounded their decisions, for some in the world BB10 will allow them to come back to BB where it was previously not affordable. In other regions, things will be a different trade-off. But it's all moot anyway...it is what it is, with benefits for some, and losses of function for others. And that result is actually pretty typical in the world...businesses must make decisions, and it is fully known that it's impossible to make 100% of the population happy.
    Good luck!

  • A few days into having the Z10- MY pros/cons/thoughts/concerns/praises/etc....

*Let me preface this by saying I just want to lay it all out on the table- you may take it with a grain of salt, or feel free to comment!*
I have been a very loyal blackberry customer since 2007- I've had their curves, bolds, and torches, and I currently own the Torch 9810. Blackberry has been a fantastic company, and I've always loved owning a blackberry. I was EXTREMELY excited when I found out that they were releasing a new operating system as well as two phones, so, on the 22nd, when AT&T released the Z10, I went and bought it outright so that I could play around with the OS. Man on man, can I say how brilliant Blackberry has done with their new line of phones. The Z10 is sleek, sexy, quick, and unlike anything out there. I played around with it for quite some time, and the following are things that I've thought about it:
    Good things/good features/wow effect:
    - huge, bright, and wonderful screen
    - quick interface and smooth OS
    - loved being able to access the camera without having to go into the phone
    - THE CAMERA!! WOW As all BB users can tell you, it is 100fold better; it's quick, it takes crisp and clear pictures, and comes with image enhancements, it's easy to use, and there are so many options within the camera application.
    - I was able to transfer my texts, calender, contacts, and memos from OS7 to OS10
    - I love being able to see my calender events on the 'lock screen'
    - the HUB is quite a cool feature that consolidates many things
    - call quality is great!
    - the virtual keyboard is the best out there
    - the 'sleep mode' screen is really awesome- the one that shows the clock, and alarm settings
    - cool little features like when you want to power off the phone, and it prompts you to hold down the power button for 3 seconds
    - NOT HAVING TO DO A BAT PULL EVERY TIME YOU DOWNLOADED A NEW APP!
    - being able to folder up items on the home screen
    - media sharing!!! connecting to a TV or PC or other DLNA supported devices
*this list isn't a fully extensive list, but these are the things I could think of right away*
    Concerns/not so good things/problems/things I actually miss from OS7:
    - Physical keyboard (YES, I know- the Q10 will be coming out soon... anyone know an official AT&T date???)
    - back button and trackball/pad (that was blackberry classic!!)
    - being able to determine how long the vibrate for text/bbm/emails/phone calls/etc
    - APPS, APPS, APPS.... I just don't understand why so many apps from OS7 aren't there!! (BBuzz, Skype, Point, Shazam, Google Maps [not the blackberry version, but the regular google maps], and BBVA Compass Bank mobile banking were the ones that I HAD, but no longer would have on the Z10) <-- when developers ask what apps people want, well... simple.. GO LOOK AT WHAT iPhone IS DOING!
    - facebook SUCKS on the new OS, and, well, it sucked on OS7 too, which is why I only used the 'mobile site'... now the BB10 mobile site sucks!! :/// I've only been able to check facebook from my computer except when I get updates!
    - ACTIVE FRAMES!! WTF is that??? I had to purchase an LED/vibrate notifications app, but it only works if it's running in the active frames........ hate that... with a passion
    - phone contacts and facebook contacts are merged and i hate that too!!! Ive tried all different ways to no avail to get that option off
    - text messages, BBM, contacts, and 'reminders' lag
    - the HUB and having everything consolidated... not a fan of that at all. I want email with email, texts with texts, and facebook with facebook. Maybe I'm paranoid, but consolidation scares me
    - battery life is NOT very good, even though they tout the battery being the biggest yet
    - I miss the way photos were categorized with BB7, and the whole media application was better on 7
    - what happened to voice notes and voice notes recorder??
    - I wish the 'memo pad' was back instead of it being called 'reminders' on BB10
    - I feel like BB7 was just easier to use then BB10
    - gestures, albeit being an awesome feature, is really hard to get used to. I want the back button and trackpad back!! made life SO much easier
*this too isn't a fully extensive list, BUT, because of most of these things, I am returning the Z10 tomorrow.*
I wish Blackberry would contact me and talk with me about the good/bad/neg/pos things about the new Z10!! There are some amazing updates and features, but I feel BB may have overreached a bit on a few things.
Phew! I just needed to vent and get all of that out there.
Let me end by saying that Blackberry has surly come around and made a dramatic turn around in the way they build phones. The phone itself is amazing, and there are great things about it. Unfortunately, MY cons have outweighed the pros right now- I just hope things get even better. BLACKBERRY- CONTACT ME AND TALK WITH ME....
Until next time, I hope you BBers have a fantastic week!!

  • Is there any RIM rep. in here? Did they notice what's happening? I can't move data from Z10 to Q10

Is there any of RIM representative here???
I know this is a common issue, I see many members from forums, here, crackberry, and many others experiencing problems with BlackBerry Link.
    1. I can't switch device from Z10 to Q10, 1st it says my Q10 has old software, I have updated to the latest, now it says please make sure my device is connected and retry, I press retry and always failed to detect (for restore data from Z10 backup to Q10) other than that, it can detect my Q10.
    2. To restore data from backup you have to sign in to BlackBerry ID first and it makes your BBM contact transferred without the others, contact, SMS, calendar, notes, alarms, settings, etc. I'm thinking of moving back to Z10 and afterwards all my open chats in Z10 just disappear, I still have importants chat containing appointments, addresses, price negotiation, hotel reservations, argh this is frustrating because every time I wanted to restore to new device it will ask to sign in again, and how is it going to decide which is my valid PIN on the other side of my BBM's contact if I keep switching device like this back and forth..
Why can't it be like the old days of OS 4, 5, 6, 7 and 7.1?
Where we can make full or partial backups and restore it to any device and any OS?
Didn't you make a proper test and research before releasing OS10 and BlackBerry Link on the market? (This question goes to RIM's rep. where ever you are)
If you wanna make all of your customers run away because your and software have issues, you've made it
This is my last bad experience with BlackBerry prior to OS10
Laughable poor camera on 9900 I can't take photos of receipts and documents, and I have to charge 3 times a day (this is supposed to be a "mobile" phones? I always ended up with dead battery when I'm mobile, and I have to stuck on charger for hours waiting to charge)
And now this .... Come on RIM do something please we really like your device...
Devices I like the most are 9700 and 9780, except for desktop manager that is not backing up auto text. Great camera, great battery life.
Btw I have use the latest release of Link but still can't restore data.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Because BB10 was not an evolution from BBOS...it is completely new, and sadly they did not take all of the prior design considerations and use them when they created BB10 and it's associated toolsets.

That functionality, while requested by many, has not been implemented. There is no way for anyone here to know if/when it will ever be so.
It seems like the rest of your post was mostly commentary or directed at audiences not in this public user-to-user community, so I'll just leave those alone.

  • Sound Problem Z10

This Z10 is now my 5th Blackberry. Two days after receiving it with my upgrade on my current service provider contract it started acting up. It would put itself into a muted state. No sound and no alerts can be heard.when I make a call the person on the other side can hear me, but I can not hear him, the alarm does not make a sound, and not one of the alerts makes a sound. To rectify the problem you need to switch the phone off, remove the battery and sim card and then restart the phone. This action rectifies the problem for anything from one hour to 7or 8 hours before it does it again by witch time I have missed a lot of calls and a lot of e mails needs to be answered because I did not hear any notification.I notified my service provider about the problem on the 5th day after receiving the phone and to date I have been given a run around. Is there a solution to this problem? Is my new phone the only one doing this or am I doing something wrong?

    Thanks for the feedback
I did contact my service provider threw witch I received the phone 5 days after I received it.I received it on the 17th of April and reported the problem on the 22 April after the weekend and to this date they have been giving me the run around, so I think swopping it is out of the question at this stage {in order to rule out a hardware problem} as I am busy consulting with their haed office regarding the matter. After I became aware of the problem I did reload the softwear but to no availe. My previous BlackBerry was a torch witch I gave to an old gentleman who did not own a phone, so I had to go and buy myself a small nokia just to have comunication,I am sure it must be a HW problem, maybe a Monday morning phone, I never had any problems with my previous BlackBerry's.Problem is my service provider seems reluctant to exchange the phone. Seems like I need to write this Z10 off and get something else , what a pitty it's the best BlackBerry I had thus far

  • Z10 Product Improvement Ideas: Peak, Flow and Navigation

Note sure what the best way to get some ideas across to Blackberry but since I've been using my Z10, there are a few ways that I think that navigation and application access can be improved. Sometimes I feel that you need to perform one too many swipes to get to something, often used features are hidden, navigation techniques are inconsistent (i.e. Accessing the hub, calendar and phone) or you have to make one more button press than necessary.
I've been a BB fan for years and have had many models. Want to see Blackberry succeed. Own stock. Got the Z10 first day. Got 4 coworkers to get the Z10. Big promoter.
Here are my suggestions and maybe with enough support, we can get a few adjustments made that improve the overall user experience and make us way more efficient. I also think that Blackberry can retain its innovation in peek and flow while still giving us alternative access that we are used across different devices such as our Ipads, playbooks, Desktops, etc. A couple items will be repeated depending on the suggestion type.
    1. Calendar needs to be a core feature and should always be open and accessible instantly at a click or a swipe. Access to the calendar is not easy as I think it should be. Four ways that Calendar could be more accessible:
    a) Have a calendar button next to phone, search and camera buttons
    b) Support a swipe action of some sort (perhaps upwards and to the left (opposite of the hub))
    c) Add calendar button to the mini-swipe/scroller menu that is available in the active apps or application screen
    d) It should be clickable and launchable on the hub either on the bottom menu or as a hub filter item. Having upcoming events appear by scrolling to the top of my hub items is convenient but not what I am talking about.
    e) Directly from the lock screen. I should be able to click and hold on the calendar event to launch my calendar.
    2. Phone calling is a core feature and needs to be launchable from the hub, the mini-swipe/scroller bar, the applications pages (as an icon) and also from the lock screen similar to the calendar (ie hold the button down). In the hub you can filter on missed/all calls but it only acts to give you a call log and not any other phone feature. Launching through the hub should provide full features.
    3. Phone and Hub should both be accessible from the applications pages as an application icon. This allows me to access hub and phone in a similar manner to my other applications and also reduces the learning curve for those used to the iphone (easier adoption). I can create logical visual organization of my applications and I can essentially put the calendar, phone and hub next to each other. I really like consistent access and behaviour and this would help.
    4.  Hub should be available in the active applications like everything else is. It is the only feature that isn't.
    5. I dislike the fact that the Hub filter opens and closes after I make a selection. I would like to be able to click on the BBM icon and see my BBM messages, then quickly click on my Texts, then my mails. I think the filters should always stay open in the mini mode unless I shrink it. i.e. Click to open filter mode with icons only, drag again to stretch and see the icons with names (I think most of us know what the icons represent anyway) and click or swipe to close the filters menu. With the menu always open, I can view all content types by themselves very quickly.
    6. Hiding the delete button  in the extended menu is not efficient. If I'm looking at a photo, reading and email, reading a text just let me delete immediately. It is an action that I do enough that it should be as available as the back, forward, reply to all buttons. Save me the additional clicks.
    7. When I launch the phone, I want the number keypad open. I don't want to launch the phone and then have to click again to get to the phone pad. The speed dial screen should not be shared with the missed calls. There should be a new screen with a dedicated button.
    8. I've found that once you set up your speed dial or world clocks, you can't edit the order. This means you are stuck with the order that you added the items and have to start from scratch if you want to re-order. This is frustrating. I don't have the ability to think about order that early. Anyone notice that when you add a phone number to speed dial, it might use a different contact than you selected if that other contact has the same number?
    8. We should be able to shortcut phone numbers to the application pages the same way we can shortcut web pages. This gives me the ability to create folders, organize phone numbers and make calls quickly. Again, learning curve for iphone converts and consistency.
    9. Alarm needs to be accessible easier. It can be an application icon accessible in the applications menu. Clicking on the alarm clock icon on the top should open the alarm clock, similarly, clicking on the wifi should open wifi menu, battery should give me percentage, and maybe a quick Bluetooth on and off. Potentially support a notifications quick menu too.
    10. We should be able to put the phone to sleep with a long swipe from the top. I don't get why you need to get to sleep mode by first locking with the top button, getting to the lock mode and then swiping down the curtain. Is there a way to do this that I'm missing?
    11. When searching in the hub, I have to clear the search to get back to an unfiltered view. Why not a quick swipe to the right? Why when I'm searching in the hub does the bottom menu disappear? I should be able to interact with those items the same way without opening the items.
    12. On the lock screen, I want quicker access to different things through three swipe actions. A swipe up opens my applications page, a swipe left opens the hub, a swipe right opens my applications page. I need to be able to open the calendar from the lock page (long press on the calendar event) and I need to be able to launch the phone (add an icon for the phone (like the camera)). Long press of the voicemail, notifications, emails, bbm or texts opens those screens.
    13. Why iis there no email or missed calls preview from the lock screen like the good old days of the torch. I want to know if I should even need to unlock the phone for the new events (is this a security issue?).
    14. The mini-swipe/scroller bar should appear in the hub, active applications and application pages (currently it is only on the latter two). It is a cool features. As per above, it should include calendar and phone.
    15. Active applications should allow pinning and re-ordering. i.e. I lock an open application in place and then I can re-order through drag and drop. Pinning isn't my idea but I like it a lot.
    16. Cool idea. If we allow users to save the layout of an active applications page, they can essentially launch 8 applications in one go in the future. i.e. You save a layout with a name and then you close the entire layout and reactivate it when you want through a list. Very powerful.
That's it for now. Would be super happy to see these adopted and interested in seeing who else has ideas, likes these ideas and hopefully with enough support maybe BB will look at these seriously. Hope they look at them.

    Hi Meredith,
Thought we had everything solved, however the failure to merge to HDR is solved. But the fix causes many problems. Now you can get to the final HDR picture however making small modifications will slow the computer to a crawl. The hourglass blinked for 5 minutes just to make a small highlight change.
What were the preferences restored by deleting the preference file and having Photoshop reload the defaults. These are the ones I am sure about.
    my settings                           default
    memory usage was 80-85%   now 49%  (834 -838 mb)
animated zoom was off            now on
save in background off             now on
graphic processor on basic      now off
    cursors others precise            now standard
transparency grid size small    now medium
By turning up memory to 50% or higher increase (1% or more) the merge to HDR screen opens as a black picture. Progress bar disappears and reappears as loading but Merge to HDR finishes with exception of black picture to start with. Click on 32 bit and.the picture appears. Local Adaption doesn't work !
Turned ON graphics card on NORMAL ,..memory back to 49% .  Merge to HDR works and local adaption works. Appears not to be slow (graphics card helping now) Process bar turns on and off during Merging to HDR
Resetting all my preferences except memory (at 49%  838 MB) Merge to HDR works with the exception of a progress bar that disappears and reappears.
In conclusion with Windows XP 32bit and 4g installed (windows seeing 3g):
Memory over 49%+ GPU on =fail and progress bars turns on and off
Memory 49% + GPU off= black window and Local Adaption fails
Memory 49% + GPU on = Everything works but process bar turns on and off
    GPU On= process bar failure
GPU off= process bar works but slow
Memory over 49%=Merge to HDR failure
Interesting note is that at a 40% memory setting Merge to HDR failed too
    Thanks,
    Meredith

  • Two active alarms at same time freeze the phone

    I have z10 STL100-1 with the latest OS 10.3.1779.
there is no problem with single alarm.
But, if there is two alarms, for example at 10:30 and 10:32. And if I am not so quick to turn off or snooze the first alarm, at 10:32 my phone freezes - dims the display, turn off alarm sound, and only vibrates. It doesn't react at any actions - only 10 sec power button to reset or pull out the battery.
With the only app running - alarm. This has begun after the last upgrade/update.
Is there any solution for this problem?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Really, I don't know what you've done.
Make certain you do the battery pull reboot with the device left powered on.
What you're seeing could be some bug in the alarm.
After reboot, if it doesn't resolve it, I'd try a couple other things...
Set your 'other' alarm to three minutes later. Or one minute later, and see if either cause the same issue?

  • Z10 Tips, Tricks and Shortcuts

I've compiled these tips from several week's worth of using the Z10 BlackBerry.
For the new Z10 user, you'll find some good stuff here and I urge you to just sit down for 20 miutes and go through each of these. They'll stick with you that way.
For the experienced user, please feel free to post your own tips in this thread! I'd ask that we stay on topic, and let's get as many as possible posted here.
     Settings
First, find your SETTINGS easily by swiping down from the top bezel. There you will see Settings, Bluetooth, Alarm, Rotation Lock, WiFi and Notifications. In your Settings, you will find your About screen, Network Connections such as your mobile network, Mobile Hotspot, NFC, Airplane Mode, etc.; your email accounts setup, Language and Input, BlackBerry Protect, and many other key settings.
Name your Z10 at Settings > About > Device Name. This is the name of the device a WiFi router will see, when using the BlackBerry Link on your desktop, or when sharing media files.
Remember the Overflow icon, which is noted by the ⁞ icon (three horizontal dots) This icon is often seen in the Hub, at the bottom of email compose screens and in many core BB10 apps and will lead you to more settings, options or actions for that screen.
Take a screen shot of your Z10 screen by pressing both the UP and DOWN volumes keys simultaneously. The screen shot is saved in your Pictures folder.
Stop the red LED quickly by tapping the top edge Standby button. Sometimes I don't have time to even peek at the Hub, and a quick tap of the standby button let's me get back to work for a few more minutes.
Hub Quick Controls: While in your Hub view, tap the overflow icon ⁞ and then Settings > to find your settings for Hub Display and Actions (change the sort order of messages, download images automatically and more), Hub Management (you can enable and disable which email accounts, Facebook, and Twitter to appear or no in the Hub.
Application settings can often be found by swiping down from the top bezel to find more Settings, Help, or About that third party application.
Disable the Delete Message Confirmation from your Hub screen > tap the overflow icon ⁞ > Settings > Display and Actions > scroll down to and disable the Delete Message Confirmation.
Peek when busy! If your actively in an email or other app like Twitter, you can use one finger swiping slowly up from the bottom bezel to view any mail, BBM or Hub notifications on the left or right of the pane. Keep your finger on the app and swipe back down to continue in the active app, or let go to move to another app. Swiping up from the bottom and over to the right all in one action hides that active app and takes you directly to your Hub.
Check your battery percentage at Settings > About > change the top Category from General to Hardware and the battery percentage is at the bottom of the screen. I've downloaded "Battery Watch" from BlackBerry World for free, as an icon on my screen.
Speed Dial settings are found by opening your Phone application and while in the Call List or Contacts view, touch and hold the desire contact to add to your Speed Dial and on the popup side bar, touch the Star icon (Add to Speed Dial).
    Typing/Keyboard
Word Substitution on your Z10 works beautifully! Find it in your Settings > Language and Input > Automated Assistance > Word Substitution. We formerly called this AutoText, and it works all the same as before. There are a few pre-loaded, and I make my own, for things such as creating an entry of "hh" which becomes "Headed Home" I often use to let family know I've left the office at the end of the day. You can create Twitter hashtags, such as "bbt" becomes "#BlackBerry10", "myadd" instantly enters my physical office address. Learn to use the pre-loaded entries such as "ld" for today's date, "lt" for the current time, "mypin" to enter your Z10 PIN, or "myver" to instantly enter your BlackBerry model and OS version installed.
Hide the keyboard on any screen by wiping down with two fingers on the keyboard. Now you can see more of the long BBMessenger chat.
Format your Email to add colored fonts, Bold, bullets, or numbering... While in the email compose screen, swipe two fingers down to hide the keyboard and you'll see the Attach, Format, Importance and the overflow [⁞] icon... which allows you do BCC: a contact in the email.
Minize the keyboard quickly by touching the space key for two seconds, or by using two fingers to swipe downward on the keyboard.
Switch Keyboards quickly between the QWERTY keyboard and the numeric/symbol keyboard by swiping down on the keyboard with one finger.
Delete whole words by swiping left across the keyboard. Delete two words by swiping leftward with two fingers, three words with three fingers.
Select a word by touching and holding the word, the blue selection box will surround the word. Hold that word a second longer and the entire sentence will be selected. Another second, the entire paragraph will select; a second longer and the next paragraph will select with it, and so on.
    Media
Use the Camera on the Lock Screen by touching the camera icon for five seconds... instant camera for the quick shots without unlocking!
Camera Tips: Use the up or down volume to activate the shutter, or simply touch the screen. Touch the Overflow icon for the camera's Burst mode (touch and hold for sports shots!) or to change the front-facing camera, or the Stabilization mode for shaky hands. The up/down volume keys also stop and start the video camera.
Set your Music Controls to your volume keys by going to your Settings > System Volume > to set the Music Shortcuts to On. Now your device volume up/down keys can be pressed to take you to the next or previous track in your music library.
    Calendar
Switch calendar views quickly between the single day view to the week view, tap the screen twice quickly
A six month calendar is viewable, from the month view, by dragging down from top blue month title. From there you can swipe left or right to the previous or future six months, and touch a month to view that month.
    Miscellaneous
Customize your icon layout by touching and holding an icon for two seconds until they pulsate... Touch and drag an icon within the current screen and let go to place it; drag an icon across the edge right or left to another panel, or drag one icon onto another to create a new folder with both icons located in that folder (you'll have a New Folder box pop up where you can name the folder). Rename a folder by touching it a few seconds.
Voice Control can quickly access from any screen by pressing the side MUTE key for two seconds (this is the button between the up and down volume keys).
Just Type! I am amazed at the ease of typing and self-correction of my typing mistakes on the Z10. I just seem to enter gibberish and the Z10 makes sense of it all in 99% of the words. Take time the first two weeks to use the word flick as you type and the Z10 will learn even better your typing and writing habits.
Just Speak! I have never been a big user of my former BlackBerry voice to text apps or services. They just never worked right for me. But WOW, this Z10 is actually getting better and better each time I use the Voice Control. Just like typing, it's learning my speech pattern, southern accent and idiosyncrasies. Take some time aside to create SMS messages or emails with the Voice Control and then as you do, make the corrections needed. Doing so will make a world of difference in how Voice Control reacts and transcribes your voice input.
Reset the BlackBerry10 Hub by swiping from the top right bezel to the center of the screen, five times in a row. This will often reset any ghost notifications, your email or social media notifications. You'll see a quick black screen then "Preparing BlackBerry Hub".
