I am trying to create an alarm viewer like the one in Lookout. I have used the alarm and event display from the DSC module, but every time the alarm goes from false to true the alarm disappears and then appears again. I am trying to get the alarms to stay until you right click and acknowledge the alarms, if a alarms goes false then it should just change color on the display. This is incase the problem is intermittent and the user does not see the alarm. Thanks

You could also set the property of the alarm objects so that the user has to acknowledge it, instead it being done automatically. Check out the attached example where I am setting an alarm on a shared variable. I set the alarming properties of the Shared Variable so that the user has to acknowledge the event before it clears from the list. I hope this helps.

How do I permanently set the alarm view on the client to show alarms only

Our client process is displaying events and alarms. When I set the display options to alarms only, the current events are cleared and only alarms are displayed. Any new events that occur continue to be displayed from that point on. I would like to setup the client to only display alarms.

Yes, it is a known bug in Lookout client process. The workaround now is to use the AcitveX AlarmEvent Browser if you really want to filter the event in client process.

Historical Data Viewer does not show Alarms/Events after date but trace working.

Dear users
The DSC Historical Data Viewer no longer shows any Alarms or Events after 31/10/06 using Citadel 5 Universe. The trace still works to current time and you can search for the alarms by tag names in the trace and it works fine. Therefore the database data is there. Does the Alarms/Events View use a different file? Any help would be much appreciated as I'm a novice working with a predecessors project.
Please keep the answer simple.

It may be a corrupt database.
The files you need to look at with all of the alarms in are files with the extensions "ale"

Lookout 6.02 stops putting alarms in the alarm window after running awhile

This system has worked fine for a couple of years (well except for not being able to print alarms -but we will tackle that later)
What appears to be happening is that on restart everything looks good and we have alarms visable in the alarms window. But, after awhile say an hour or so, the alarms stop showing up in the window.
I believe this has slowly crept up to this point as the Customer has on occassion stated that an alarm was not in in the window even though you could see it on the main system screen.
Running Windows Xp Pro.

After an hour or so, do all alarms stop showing up in Alarm Window?
Could you let the customer check the alarm database by MAX? Create an Alarm Viewer and check if the missing alarm is in the database.
The customer can also follow this KB to check the settings.

Thanks On my phone, these are the options under Menu>Settings & Tools>Sound Settings>Alert Sounds: 1. TXT Message 2. Multimedia Message 3. Voicemail 4. Emergency Tone 5. Missed Call . And under Service Alerts: 1. ERI 2. Minute Beep 3. Call Connect 4. Charge Complete 5. Software Update. So nothing there for the calendar. And options from the calendar that I can see are Add (here you can change the tone for one event or recurring event, but not set a default tone for the event alarm), View (gives you the options of viewing an existing event in more detail, adding a new one, and the same choices from the Options list on the first screen where you are viewing the entire month), and Options (1. lets you view weekly/monthly, 2. Go To Today 3. Go To Date 4. Search 5. Erase All 6. Erase All Old 7. Send. So as far as I can see, there's no way to do it. I have been through all the Settings and Tools menus... and the Events menu. But...I have just discovered that if I delete ALL my alarms and change the Ringtone for the first alarm I set, that ringtone becomes the default ringtone. I will try deleting ALL my events and starting fresh with a new tone and see if that works!

Multi-month view and birthday alarm

Hi Everyone,
I'm really itching to start using the open iCalendar standard. I keep checking out iCal from time to time and I'm getting more and more tempted. But without multi-month and year view, any calendar is quit useless for my needs. My present calendar app lets me set ANY date range to display and print. This allows an overview over an entire project. I find it difficult to understand how Apple created iChat with such a fundamental omission in the first place and still has not fixed it after such a long time.
Its also a nuisance that iCal for some inexplicable reason does not allow an alarm to be set for birthdays. How can this be? Is this not one of the key reasons for using a calendar?
Can anyone tell me how I can get Apple's sympathetic ears?

Where is the small ALARM 'icon' in iCal day view Events??

I am almost certain that with iCal 2 (Tiger) when I set an alarm (and I set a lot of alarms)- in the Day view when I looked at the event I could see a small alarm 'icon' or picture or visual indicator (whatever one would call it) that that event indeed had an alarm set.
But for iCal 3.0.6 with Leopard 10.5.6 (which I installed last week) - the events show no indication of whether there is an alarm set or not.
How to get this nice little feature back?
ALSO: Is there a way to do a search to find just events which have an alarm set (i.e. find all events which have alarms)?

I too miss the alarm icon feature, as it is now cumbersome to verify whether an event has an alarm or not.

Multiple alarms appearing on "Today view"

I have been trying to figure this out but can't seem to find an answer.
On my iPhone 5S my Today View in the notification center shows 10s of different alarms as being set. All of them appear to be the alarms I have set (say 4 of them) but multiple times (at least three times per alarm), leading to a ridiculously large number of alarm notifications (You have set an alarm for...).
This was not a problem on my 4s under iOS 6 or iOS 7 so I'm wondering if I've missed something here.

What he says is that you should never use the “alarm shortcuts.” When you set an alarm, these are the shortcuts show up at the bottom of the list (e.g. Play sound “Basso” 15 minutes before).
Once you use one of those shortcuts, your alarms will be messed up and you will probably have to do the reset steps that I mentioned above, in an earlier message in this thread.
As long as you set up your alarms manually each time (i.e. choose “Message with Sound” instead of one of the pre-set options) you should be okay.
I think.
I have to use this for a few more days to be sure.

Custom alarm and event view

Hello
I tried to create custom alarm&event view. I used "read alarm.vi" and "format alarm data.vi" to fill multicolumn listbox where i changed columns names. Why alarms disapear when they are not active anymore? How can i change that? I would like to have all alarms in table, new and old ones. How can I change colors when alarm is active, inactive or ack?

I did it, but... There is always but. I've changed columns names, switch position of 1st and 2nd, and 3rd and 4th column, and alarms in different state have different color. But its not working properly. Few seconds table is changed and few seconds in not. Maybe my PC is too slow, or is it something else. Please look at picture in attachment. Is there easier way to do it?

View alarm status of shared variable

Hello:
I need to know the alarm status (I mean, if the shared variable is currently alarmed) of some shared variables hosted in a Compact Fieldpoint Controller.
I've seached for options on how to do this (like searching for a property through a property node of the SharedVariableIO class) but haven't found a succesful method to do it.
Anybody knows how to do that?

Hola Robst, para ver las propiedades de una variable lo que necesitas hacer es habilitar el porperty node para que acepte como entradas las constantes de Variables Compartidas. Para que property node acepte esta referencia como entrada tienes que decirle que en clase es una variable compartida. Para seleccionar la clase da clic derecho sobre el nodo, y ahí aparece en el menu class. Después selecciona Shared Variable. Una vez que tengas la Shared Variable vas a tener todas las propiedades, sin embargo aquí no hay una propiedad que diga si está o no activa la alarma este nodo más bien te permite saber la configuración de la alarma y modificarla.
Aquí hay tres opciones sencillas para sacar esto. La primera es utiliza solo una variable y conectala al Read Alarms, o Alarm Status a partir de aquí puedes saber si existe o no alarmas.
Con el de Read Alarms si el arreglo regresa vacio es que no hay alarmas. Con el de alarm Status hay una elemento del Cluster que te indica que si hay alguna alarma.
Ahora otra opción es utilizar Read Alarms y de ahí extraer cuales son las alarmas.

Ids event viewer alarm

I've many alarms with more than one signature with destination ip address 0.0.0.0 source and destination port 0
how can I intend these messages?

Begin by defining an exclusive filter. Specify the source address, which is the network that is generating large numbers of false positives. Specify all signatures so that no alarms are sent to Security Monitor. Next, define an inclusive filter. Specify the same source address but specify Signatures which are the ones that you want to include.

Mini Month View in iCal

Can't say I like the new iCal running on Lion. One feature that I can't seem to find is the mini month view. I did away with my paper calendar for viewing full months because of the mini month calendars on my Macs.
Is that functionality gone? I've searched preferences and menus and can't find a way to turn it on.
So many things about this new iCal that I find I do not like. I sure hope updates are coming to fix it.

Last thing about iCal which I think could be fixed, is that it would be easier to type down events and making line-breaks if one whouldn't have to hold 'Alt' in while doing it. I make line-breaks much more often than I finish editing an event (in which case you just press enter or click outside the event you were editing). It would be better to press 'alt' + 'enter' in order to finish editing an event, and reserve the action of just pressing 'enter' for line-breaks. This, btw, was also this way in iCal 4.
Ok, last last thing: in the preferences of iCal one can add a default alert to all new timed events and invitations and one can specify how many minutes before one wants to be alerted. I do not want to add a default alert to all new events/appointments, but I would like to be able to specify the default number of minutes put on all new alerts that I put on events. It seems quite intuitive to me that the default number of minutes one can specify for every alarm added to events by defult (if that option is checked in the preferences), should be the defult number of minutes set to alarms one manually puts on events, in stead of the '15 minutes before' default that is in the system and which seems to be unchangable.
If it says '0 minutes before the start time' there, then all alerts that I manually put on events should have this value put to zero by default!

Xtrafinder seems to have broken my 'list view' in Finder. Please Help.

I'm using 10.9.4.
I installed XtraFinder a couple of days ago and instantly my Finder didn't work in list view or column view
I can still use it in icon view but none of the others
I've attached an image as an example of what happens when I switch to list view from icon view. I have completely uninstalled Xtrafinder using its own uninstall method.

It's not really clear that you still have a problem, but if you think you do, see below.
1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can read it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

Reminders in iCal Day View

Reminders, whether created in iCal or the iOS Reminders app disappear in iCal's Day View when the reminder is set in iOS to repeat. They reapear in iCal when the date is advance on day or the view is changed to Week View. They also appear correclty in iCloud's day view.
Does anybody get different results?

I too miss the alarm icon feature, as it is now cumbersome to verify whether an event has an alarm or not.

Palm desktop calendar - in month view, event times are in wrong order!

I use Palm Desktop 4.1.4 on my Windows XP machine (I don't own a PDA). I enter my appointments in Week view and they look fine, but when I go to Month view (I want to print this view), the events for a given day show up in the wrong order!
For example, on one day I see:
9a Event
10:30a Event
2p Event
12p Event
and on the next day I see:
9a Event
2p Event
10a Event
I tried changing things in Options and Preferences - no luck. I have messed around with it and can't figure out any weird pattern it might be sorting by (I've tried re-entering appointments to see whether it sorts by the last time they were entered/edited, and looked into whether it was sorting by category, length of event name, first digit of the time, length of time, alphabetically by event name, by whether it repeats/has a location/has a note/has an alarm/was entered by clicking once and typing or by right-clicking). It just seems baffling, and it definitely seems like a bug, since of course you'd want your events sorted by time.
Does anyone know what's going on or have this problem?

I had looked at this in response to another post, and didn't notice the same problem. But then I went back further and noticed it sure enough...it's only occasional.
I haven't done any kind of analysis as you have apparently done, mostly because I don't really use the desktop application except occasionally.
Thought maybe it sorts repeating events differently than single events, but I've seen it both ways, so that doesn't seem to be it.
It doesn't bother me enough, but it certainly seems like it would warrant an email support request to Palm, to see if they have an answer.
