Alarms in subscribed calendars - can they be switched off?

I share my Google calendar with my partner on her iPhone but it seems that the alarms on the entries go off on her phone even when she has it set to look at her own calendar. Is there a way anyone knows of preventing this please?

I believe that if you are acceesing a shared Google calendar plus your own personal Google calendar then you will get the notifications from both. I don't believe there's a way to defeat this, I'm afraid. You might contact one of the Google support forums and ask there for a more definitive answer.

Connect the iPhone to the compter you usually sync with
and use iTunes on that computer to do the restore.

We have two iphones, an ipad2 and ipad mini. The iphones have no difficulity discovering the air printers on our network. However the ipads cannot locate air printers. If the ipads are switched off/on they can find the printers but only for a one time use. Then they can no longer find printers. Any suggestions?

Try a hard reset and go from there. You might try a manual install (using DFU Mode), as outlined in the link below.

HT1212 iPhone can't be switched off

I have a message telling me that Icloud not backed up and then I cant switch off the phone or do anything. When i connected it to the computer, since the screen is frozen with that message, I cant log in to the Itunes as well.

I have tried holding down the home and power button countless of times. It doesnt respond at all. Plug my phone to a charger and hold down the power button and my phone switched on. But it said Activation Required and said connect to Itunes. As e screen remains on the connect to Itunes screen, I disconnect the charger from my phone and my phone went dead instantly. My battery is full btw. Tried connecting to Itunes through my Macbook Pro but iTunes doesnt detect my device and the apple logo flashes for about a few seconds on my phone and then disappear and then came back on again. My Iphone has been connected to my laptop for about 30 mins and the apple logo has been coming on and off for 30 minutes now and Itunes has not detect my device yet.

I'm a poor grad student which means I have a hand-me-down PC, and I hate it. But dollars to buy a new Mac won't come for another few months at least so I am stuck with this piece of crap. For my research I am taking scads of photos (many gigabytes), which are currently stored on my hard drive, but that I would like to back up with some sort of external device. Thus I have purchased a Western Digital Passport external hard drive, which connects via USB and is compatible with both Windows 98/2000/XP and Mac OS 9.2.2 or Mac OS X 10.1.5+. My question is the following: if I use this device with my ****** Dell PC and store photos (and maybe mp3s) on it, will I then be able to plug it into the USB port on a new Mac and have everything be ok (as in I can read and manipulate the files that were saved via my PC on my Mac and also still use the device to store new files generated on the Mac)? Does anyone have experience with this? Thanks!

LR4 auto recovery - can it be switched off?

Is there any way to turn off auto-recovery in LR4 2012 process engine? When shooting on white seamless, I gradually bring up the background lights until I see the raw file just blowing out as I want it, at my shooting aperture. With LR4 and auto-recovery - using this method of 'metering' if you like - I'm adding 2-3 extra stops of light than I would expect before this happens, which then gives me wrap around and flare problems. I'd like to take back control of this, so I'm not guessing where my pure white is any more. Thanks.

I know where you're coming from, having shot and processed my own film and print images starting in 1970. I also understand what you're trying to do, but disagree with your approach on two points:
1) Use of the raw processor histogram to determine raw clipping.
2) Expecting the raw processor to understand that you want a specific area to be 100% clipped. Normally this is NOT the case.
For #1: The following link explains how you can set your camera to make its histogram accurately display raw clipping. It's called Universal White Balance (UniWB) and once you've established the proper in-camera settings you can save them to a "custom function" dial setting (C1, etc.). When set properly the camera's preview image will have an ugly green cast, but will correctly indicate highlight clipping. By using a custom function for these settings you can easily switch between normal camera preview mode and UniWB mode.

You can find camera specific UniWB information by doing a Google search on uniwb + camera model, for example uniwb D800.
For #2: Use the top-down approach for setting PV2012's Basic panel controls with your white clipped images:
1) Exposure: Set for natural looking 'midtones.'
2) Contrast: I find it easier to adjust after making all of the other settings, but rarely use more than ±25.
3) Highlights: Set negative to maximize the highlight detail against the backdrop, such as hair.
4) Shadows: Set positive to the same value as Highlights works well (EX- +20 with -20 Highlights).
5) Whites: This is where you reestablish the backdrop white clipping level that PV2012's autohighlight recovery removed. (Holding the ALT key down lets you see the clipping real-time.)
6) Blacks: Set negative to establish the desired black clipping level (Holding the ALT key down lets you see the clipping real-time.)
7) Clarity: For models a slightly negative -Clarity setting can help to bring out highlights in hair, and nicely softens the image while maintaining detail.
8) Vibrance & Saturation: Don't be afraid to use these together with "opposing" (+-, -+) settings to help correct specific colors that are over or under saturated.
We haven't even touched on the proper Camera Profile for this subject, which affects the overall appearance of the image.
Once you've established the proper Basic panel settings for a particular lighting setup, I suggest saving it as a Develop preset with all of the Basic panel settings and any other settings you made that deviate from your LR Develop default settings. You can then easily apply the Develop preset to images from a previous or future assignment.

Until recently, when typing in a recipient name in an e-mail, you would only get the address of the person you wanted to mail. Now you get a list of addressees who have been cc'd into previous e-mails. Can it be switched off?

Until recently, when entering an addressee into the "To" field on an e-mail, you would get a predictive list of addresses that start with the first 2 letters.
Now I'm getting a long list of the addressee I'm after, plus combinations of other addresses that have been cc'd previously into e-mails going to that person.
This is pretty confusing, and quite risky!! It's easy to click on an addressee by mistake, and inadvertantly copy someone else into the e-mail by mistake.
Is there any way to switch this off?

Select the decedent's name then Remove from List

Turning of Alarms on Synced Calendars?

I have a synced Google calendar with iCal. The problem is that the synced Google Calendar with iCal (OSx 10.6) is sending alarms that are not on the Google Calendar. Is there a way to turn off "Alarms"?

I have the same problem, I think, and its bloody annoying.
Setup:
I have several Apple devices (MacBook, iPhone, iPad) which all sync to my Google Apps calendar and update each other in real-time using CalDAV. Quite handy actually, except for the following...
Problem:
I don't typically use Alarms. For some reason, about a month ago, all the events in my calendar suddenly had Alarms configured and I can't turn them off. If I:
(1) Create a new event and don't configure any Alarm, an Alarm gets auto-configured for it anyway. Almost like a setting somewhere is auto-populating a default Alarm.
(2) If I try to edit an existing alarm, and remove it, it just re-populates it after I save.
As noted, I have several synced devices. So for every dang iCal event, I get multiple alarms, e-mail alerts and etc. As I said, really annoying!
Troubleshooting:
I have searched and searched for a default setting in iCal and Google Aps, but can't find anything that would 'force' a default Alarm. I tried clicking on the iCal --> Preferences --> Advanced --> [ ] Turn off all alarms setting, but it didn't work.

You can turn off the keyboard lights by unchecking System Preferences > Keyboard > keyboard tab > Automatically illuminate keyboard in low light. Then use F5 to lower the keyboard to off.
The Monitor can't be switched off but can be reduced to almost off using the F1 key.

When i try to wake my macbook after sleep the keypad lights up but the screen stays black. I have to switch off and restart. How do I fix this?

After my Macbook goes into sleep mode it sometimes won't wake. The keypad lights up but the screen stays black. This problem has only occured after updating to OSX 10.7.2.
All I can do is switch off and restart. Then any programs I have not 'quit' all open.

OK, I have a fix.
After spending about an hour online with Apple Care without success, I did a reinstall of the Lion OS. It fixed the problem. I was concerned that I would lose data or settings, but the reinstall was seemless and everything was the way it was before the reinstall except that the "black screen on wake" problem was fixed.
I started the reinstall before I went to bed and it was waiting for me the next morning.

When some peoples or my friends tries to call me, even though my phone was not switched off.. They get switched off tone. What will be the problem.
