Album 1.0 to Elements 4.0

I currently have about 3,000 pictures saved, sorted and fixed under Adobe Photoshop Album 1.0 (I know, it's old) . I want to install elements 4.0. I was thinking of doing a back-up of Album 1.0 and then a restore of THAT CD on Elements 4.0. Problem is my burner stops dead at 4%.. and I can't seem to fix it. So I have heard that there's a simple file that has all the tag data on it that's relatively small. Can I simply use my thumb-drive to hold that file while I install the Elements ? I don't know where that tag file is, and then where to put it once I'm ready to start using Elements. My goal is to completely delete Album 1.0 from my system and then use Elements full time.
Any tips you guys can give me to make this a smoother transition?

Stewart,
First I am going to ask for assistance from at least one other forum member
Colin Walls
since this is Album 1, I wanted to ask if you can identify anything significantly different from Album 1 that might make a difference in this migration. Did Album 1 have a Reconnect or a Catalog Recover? Did Album 1 have Offline files? Any suggestions on the stopping at 4% on the backup?
Stewart,
I started using PS Album at 2.0 and I recently installed PSE 4 with someone who was running PS Album 2 before installing PSE 4. PSE4 found the existing PS Album 2 Catalog and coverted it to PSE 4 format (there was a dialog box asking for confirmation before doing the conversion). I think that the same process will happen for upgrading from PS Album 1.
Yes there is a Catalog file that contains the tags. I think the catalog location is the same in PS Album 1 and 2. The default name is My Catalog.psa and the folder location is
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Album\Catalogs
You must enable viewing of Hidden Folders in order to display this folder uisng Windows Explorer. I suggest that you look for the catalog file and then post the size and date modified shown by Windows Explorer. There are several false hits that you can get under Program Files that are not really the catalog with your data, so verifying that you have the correct file is important.
So yes, you could make a copy of your PS Album 1 catalog file to your thumb drive. Also since you are upgrading to PSE 4, you must be running Windows XP and you could use the XP CD burning support to also write an additional copy of the catalog to a CD. However do NOT delete this catalog file from its current folder location.
Questions
From your description it seems that you are installing PSE 4 on the same machine where you currently run PS Album 1 - correct?
Verify whether you are using the default name for the catalog ?
How do you backup your photo files ? (asking since you say that the PS Album backup will not work)
I wonder why you specifically want to completely delete Album 1.0 from your system?

  • Converting Photoshop Album 2.0 to Elements 13

Anyone know how to import my catalog from Album 2.0 to Elements 13? Elements does not recognize my catalog files.
    Thanks

Yes. Thanks for your reply. Just shows my age doesn't it! I've really got to upgrade my system from Windows 3.1.
Still it lasted me for quite a few years over its various issues and wasn't a bad investment for me considering I think it was a magazine cover freebie, though I can't remember whether it was issued on 5" or 3" disks!!!
Interesting to note that conceptually the original design was quite good and together with the new face recognition technology which is as good if not better than Picasa the PSE13 Organiser does a good job. It's a pity Adobe doesn't promote more of this side of the product. I wasn't able to find the replacement to Album as it was starting to struggle as the photo count increased and I hadn't been able to find an obvious replacement. Still that's over now.
All I have to do now is to raise a query as to how to order/sort certain tags and it's a near perfect product for me. Can't find the answer in the Manual(s) or FAQs - or I'm not using the correct query key words.

  • Import settings from Photoshop Album Starter, to Photoshop elements 10?

Basically I am upgrading a computer from XP to Win7.
She had all her data organized in Adobe Photoshop Album Starter.
It saved all her pictures but did not organize them (out of the program).
I was wondering if there was a way to export the folder/organization system from Adobe Photoshop Album Starter, into Photoshop Elements 10?
Or does she have to go through all her pictures again, and re-organize them?
Any and all help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,

    I am curious
Is PS Album 2 running on a Windows XP PC ? Does PS Album run normally ?
PSE 4 on the same PC ?
Is PSE 9 running on the same computer as Photoshop Album 2 ?
Or perhaps is PSE 9 running on a new computer with Windows 7 ?
For PS Album 2, in addition to doing the repair of the Catalog (which you  have done), you should not have any disconnected files when you attempt a catalog upgrade. In PS Album 2, look for a command to Reconnect All Missing Files -- it may be under the File menu.  Run that command.

  • Compatibility of Album 2.0 and Elements 5.0

I've been working with Album 2.0 for the past several years and know that I need to upgrade to Elements. Will I encounter any problems if I purchase Elements 5.0 (Windows XP). Thanks--I'm worried about losing a slide show I made for my parents' 60th anniversary!

    >I'm worried about losing a slide show I made for my parents' 60th anniversary!
For the purpose of the slide show, I would definitely keep PS Album 2 installed. Most slide shows will NOT transfer from PS Album to PS Elements Organizer; they can not be modified or recreated with PSE 5.
The photo files that were the basis for the slide show can be accessed after your catalog is upgraded from PS Album 2 to Photoshop Elements 5. It is just the definition of the slide show that is most probably not usable as is in PSE 5.
Also, please tell us - what type of output did you create for your slide show from PS Album 2?

  • How do you transfer Albums & their contents from Elements 11 into a later edition Elements 13. Thanks

How do you transfer Albums & their contents from Elements 11 into a later edition Elements 13. Thanks

Albums are lists which are stored into catalogs. They don't contain the images, they just keep a pointer to where the pictures are stored in your computer and the order to display them.
So your problem is with catalogs, not with albums.
If you have missed the message to convert the old current catalog at installation time, that's not a problem. You can use the menu File in the organizer, select 'Manage catalogs' which will show a 'convert' button. That is also necessary if you have more than one catalog.
The catalog is not a single file, it's a folder containing the main database, catalog.pse13b as well as other files and subfolders. The location of your current catalog can be found with the menu Help/System Info of the organizer. If you want to use another catalog, the organizer will search for other catalogs and provide a list to choose from.

  • Converting Catalog from Photoshop Album 2 to P. Elements 4 or 9

When converting the catalog from Photoshop Album 2.0  PE Versions 4.0 or 9.0, I get 43% through the conversion and then an error message pops up saying the file is corrupt and to repir first in the original version. I have looked up other forums which have been helpful recommending to hold Control key down whening opening P Album to firstly repair the catalog. This done successfully, with the catalog working in Album "successfully repaired", it still does not correct the error message when attemptng to re-convert the catalog into the later versions. I have about 12,000 photos in the catalog. Any ideas most welcome?

  • Treatment of Album "Notes" in Photoshop Elements 4.0

I heavily use the Album 2.0 Notes capability. But the Notes are not readily (if at all) viewable/printable/shareable to others. If I "upgrade" to Elements 4, is the Notes capability maintained? Are the Notes more easily viewable/printable/shareable with others (via .PDF or some other technique)? I really need to know. Can someone help?

I don't think there are really any changes to the use
of Notes in PSE 3/4, compared with PSA 1/2. They are
really intended as a means of documenting the images
    for your own use.
I recently learnt that the notes are actually written
to the image files [as well as the catalog] - in some
image formats anyway. This would imply at another
PSA/PSE user could import the image and pick up the
notes and this seems to work.

  • Récupérer une sauvegarde Photoshop Album V1 dans Photoshop Elements V13

    Bonjour,
    Merci d'avance.

  • Import Category Tag Data from Album 1.0 to Elements 4.0

I have used PS Album 1.0 since its release together with PSE 2.0. I want to upgrade to PSE 4.0 but do not want to lose organizational data created in PSA 1.0. Can this be imported to PSE 4.0 or will it be recognized automatically?? Can't find the answer in FAQ or Knowledgebase. Help much appreciated!

    Abigail,
I worked with someone who upgraded from Album 2 to Elements 4 and their catalog was converted OK. Generally if you have the default catalog name in the default location, you get a dialog box at the end of the Elements 4 install process asking for confirmation that you want to convert your catalog. If you have not defaults, then just go to Open your catalog and you will see the dialog box abour the catalog conversion.
I don't remember which type of creations were available in PSA 1, but I do know that not all the Creations come across completely. However, the Tags and the photo files are fine.
In preparation you should do the following types of activities on your prior version (for you PSA 1)
    - Reconnect All Missing Files
    - Catalog Recover
Their purpose is to make the catalog as error free and compact as possible before it is converted to the new version.
I believe that you will have a similar experience upgrading from PS Album version 1 as I saw when upgrading from PSA 2.

  • How to transfer from old computer (Photo Album) to new computer (Elements)?

For Christmas I'm getting my wife a new version of Adobe and a new computer, as well.  She has 12,000 photos with tags in Adobe Photo Album 1.0 on the old computer.  I'm installing Adobe Elements 8 on the new computer.  How do I transfer the photos with tags?  Thanks for any advice.

I recommend that you first install PSE 8 on the old computer and convert the PSA 1 catalog to PSE 8.  Then once PSE 8 is running correctly, you can use the backup/restore method to move the catalog and photos to the new computer.  Though it is sometimes possible to do it in the other order, or to do the move and conversion in one step, I strongly recommend not doing that -- it will make the troubleshooting much harder.
Though Adobe claims to support conversion of catalog from previous version to PSE 8, many people with PSA and older versions of PSE have experienced problems.  See this FAQ for details on how to deal with common issues that might arise:
    http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshop-elements-faq.htm#_Problems_converting_catalo gs
See this FAQ for how to use the backup/restore method to move your PSE 8 catalog to the new computer:
    http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshop-elements-faq.htm#_Move_your_photos_1
As you can probably infer by now, it's very likely you'll run into issues, so expect to spend many, many hours (unfortunately).

  • Photoshop Album SE or  Photoshop Elements??

I just got a digital camera and have already taken nearly 500 photos. I'm pretty sure I'm eventually going to get PSE for the editing, but right now, I'm primarily interested in organizing the photos while my volume is still pretty small. Should I start with SE or go for it and buy PSE and start from there?

    Colin:
Thanks for the reply. If I can easily convert my work in SE to PSE, I'll probably start with that - does PSE provide instruction on how to convert my work in SE? I primarily want to get started on categorizing the photos, putting in captions and tagging them before I get too many to handle...

  • Ordering Photoshop Element Album Print on Kodak Gallery

I have spent many many hours creating an album using Photoshop Element 7,0 and then wanted to print using Kodak Gallery. Did not work. Here is what happened:
Click on the PSE file on the organizer.
Then click 'Order print' and landed on Kodak Gallery site and logged in, I can see my album there but could not find a way to simply order a print copy of it.  Only choice seems to select 'New album' which then would force me to redo all the work, reselecting templates etc...
    What am I missing ?

A bit more details should help here.  Essentially, I am talking about trying to export a PSE album file from Photoshop Element to the Kodak Gallery website to order a print copy. Here how I did it:
    1. Went from 'organiser' to Create Photobook, imported all my pictures and created the pse file using Photoshop Element 6,0 templates, backgrounds etc.
    2. Saved it in Organiser and on a separate file located on my desktop.
    3. Reopen Organiser, clicked on Share, Order print which directed me to Kodak Gallery site. I could see there my pse file or album.
    4. Tried to find a print album function to just order a print copy but did not find anything like it.Always forced to go through their 'New album' function which essentially meant redoing all the work.
    5. Tried to use the print photo function but then would not import or use pse file, only jpeg.
    Hope this help.

  • Importing Albums into Photoshop Elements 8 for MAC

Has anyone had experience in importing a series of Albums - created in Photoshop Elements (6) for Windows - into Photoshop Elements 8 for MAC?  I have thousands of photos, arranged into separate Albums, that were created in Photoshop Elements for Windows and which were backed up onto an external harddrive, that I want to move into Photoshop Elements 8 for MAC.  However, I do not see how to do this. HELP!!!

    Dear Ms. Brundage -
I followed the directions detailed in your blog entitled "Moving a Catalog from Windows to Mac" as well as your description of the process on page 58 of your book "Photoshop Elements 9 - the missing manual."
I installed PE9 for Windows and converted my catalog.  I then backed up that catalog to an external hard drive.  I then connected the hard drive to my MAC on which I also installed Photoshop Elements 9 for MAC.  I opened the Organizer and tried to restore that converted catalog.  However, for each file in the converted catalog, a dialog box opened that said "Could not restore file:  /Volumes/Name of External Hard Drive/Filename.JPG."
I then made a second backup of the converted catalog using Photoshop Elements 9 for Windows and then tried to restore that catalog again on the MAC using Photoshop Elements 9 for MAC, again to no avail.
Do you have any idea what the problem may be?
    Thanks again.
