  • Reinstalled PSE7 - how to retrieve albums and keyword tags? [Was: Question]

    Hiya
Using Photoshop Elem’7- I have had a major problem with my pc and I have gone back to factory settings, I have reloaded the Photoshop software – I can see all my photo’s back on my hard drive and also on Photoshop but I cannot retrieve my albums and keyword tags
Can anybody help me on this topic?

    Hi
This is actually the Photoshop forum, and you would do better in the Elements forum.
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/photoshop_elements
But it seems that Elements creates a catalog file where I suspect it keeps the info you are looking for.
This is one link, but you could try Google with Adobe Photoshop Elements catalog location, ot just go ask in the other forum.

  • Elements 10 missing albums and keyword tags

I just upgraded to elements 10 and now have no albums or tags in the new organizer. Any idea why or how to get them?

Did you forget to convert your previous catalog when you installed the new software? You can do it manually.
    File à Catalog à Convert
Highlight your earlier catalog and click the convert button.

(ios5 ipad bugs)I can't get changes of album art, artist, album and other tags to show up in the iPad music player, but they show up correctly in the iTunes device view. Certain random songs do not sync correctly.   Wifi sync hasn't worked yet.
I mostly use technology for education and professional audiovisuals and lights.
I don't sync  music because I use music from at least 4 different computers. (manually mange music)
I use my iPad to play performance tracks for church and a local gospel group out of our church, Won4Christ.
I chose to buy the iPad because the laptop of one of the group members (dellxps running iTunes) was randomly losing and mixing up music and I wanted a more stable option that was bigger than my iPod touch.
I tried to add some data to music libraries that I previously added to my iPad, but the data only shows up when looking at the device in iTunes.
Wifi sync has not worked on either my laptop or desktop ( both running windows 7 enterprise 64 and newest iTunes) not really a big issue, but very annoying
When browsing through library playlist albums on the iPad, random artwork shows up on playlists with no artwork that you touch while dragging, and it does not go away until you change to another navigation tab and back.
Random songs out of hundreds that I added showed up in iTunes grayed out with a sync circle beside them.  Those songs would play back okay on the iPad but were unplayable through the iTunes device view.  I had to delete the songs manually through the library along with the playlist and add them again.
These seem to be major stability bugs in the "new" music app and iTunes.  My only option right now seems to be to delete the songs that I want to change and re-add them with the changes already applied rather than changing the id3 tags and artwork on the existing music. I hope apple will release updates to resolve these issues.
Thank you for actually making it to the end of this manuscript of annoyances.

Just wondered if anyone had any other suggestions.

  • Albums and keywords - moving library

I need to move my library to a new internal drive. I have found the info I need to do this but I'm wondering if all my albums and keywords will be transfered with the photos? Is there anything else I need to worry about or consider?

    Hi Greg,
As long as you backup then copy the ENTIRE iPhoto Library folder to the new drive, you should be all set.

  • Is there any way to export or save my Lightroom 5 presets and keywords/tags to an external storage drive prior to a program and data wipe due to a corrupt registry? Thanks.

Look at these instructions for how to move your LR to a new computer and copy things to a backup device until your computer is reformatted and you reinstall LR:

  • How can I stop thumbnails and keyword tags from rapid movement?

PSE 10 for Mac: When going through catalog thumbnails or trying to locate a particular keyword tag, the images or the tags just whiz by rapidly.  How can I prevent this?  Thank you.

I think even using Get Info may not reveal the change, though it is possible the behaviour has altered since I last tested it. Playing or updating the tracks location in a script such as UpdateTagInfo seems to get iTunes to re-evaluate the tag.
Assuming WMP is involved it may be best to make the necessary settings adjustments to prevent further changes, use the script to get all of the background changes exposed within iTunes, then correct as you see fit. Alternatively I do have another script called ExportImport that could be used to back up the current state of your tags (you should temporarily rename the media folder during the export phase), after which you would then run UpdateTagInfo and then use ExplortImport in its import mode to restore the corrupted data.

  • PSE 6 and keyword tagging

I've been trying to use keyword tags to identify my images (I have four categories of tags one of which has subcategories numbering 40+ the others have far fewer) and I'm experiencing problems with Elements crashing, hanging and images disappearing from my hard drive.  I am a fairly inexperienced user but I'm very careful and methodical in my processes and I just can't figure out the problem. I'd really appreciate any ideas/theories anyone might have.

Here are some tips for Organizer crashes
    http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshop-elements-faq.htm#_Troubleshooting_Organizer_ crashes
Adding tags shouldn't cause images to disappear from your hard drive. Are you 100% sure that adding tags is the reason?

  • Sharing albums and keywords

I am attempting to share an album over a lan and would like to use keywords, titles, etc. so that the other users can also search the photos. The titles are showing up but the keywords aren't showing up on the other computers. Is there something I need to do to have this work? Everyone is on iPhoto '08 but the versions may be different.

The files are stored on the server
What server? What format is that server?
    And where is the library?
iPhoto is very happiest when living on a disk formatted for OS X. When it's not these are exactly the kinds of anomalies that occur.
I created a library without importing the images.
This is should not have any impact on this issue. However: ou need to be aware of a number of potential pitfalls using this system.
    1. Import and deleting pics are more complex procedures
    2. You cannot move or rename the files on your system or iPhoto will lose track of them
    3. Most importantly, migrating to a new disk or computer can be much more complex.
Always allowing for personal preference, I've yet to see a good reason to run iPhoto in referenced mode unless you're using two photo organisers. But that's a separate question.

  • Time capsule blinking amber and my wireless network has vanished after factory reset

    Hello,
I have an Apple Macbook aluminum body with a Motorola cable modem hooked up to the Time Capsule which acts as my router. After turning the power off in my home, the internet has not been working. The light on the TC was green, but I had no internet because Airport had a "self-assigned" IP address and may not be able to connect to the internet. Then, I decided to do a hard reset and restore my setting to factory. The light on the TC is blinking amber. When I go into Airport Utility, it gives me this message: "Airport Utility was unable to find any Airport wireless devices". On top of all this, when I did the hard reset, my wifi network is not on the list of Airport networks in my range. It has completely disappeared. I have all the wires connected properly to the router and TC. Please help, this scenario is very frustrating.

If you performed a factory default reset, the TC is now broadcasting a wireless network with a name like Apple Network xxxxxx, where the "x" could be either a letter or number.
You must first log on to this wireless network (there is no security or password) and establish a connection.
Then, if the TC was reset properly, you will be able to open AirPort Utility and re-configure the TC.
When you click Update to save your configuration settings, the TC will "dsiappear" from AirPort Utility. This is normal. Close AirPort Utility and wait for the TC to restart.
Then log on to the "new" wireless network that you named during the configuration.

  • I  updated iTunes and Safari and my iTunes library has vanished

Help, earlier today I was in Safari and it got hung for so long (10 or more minutes) that I turned to computer off by pressing the power button (I know this was not the best course of action, but I couldn't remember the keystroke command to force quit and I sure couldn't look it up because my browser was not responding). Okay, so when I restarted my computer kindly notified me that software updates were available for Safari, iTunes, and two security items, so I clicked to load them (I've had some annoying reauthorizing when doing this with iTunes before, but never a big problem). So the computer restarts after installing and I go to iTunes and there is no library, no playlists, nothing that was there before. I still have everything on my iPod, but I don't know how to retrieve the lost stuff (and no, I haven't backed it up, I have the ipod and the cd's and presumably the itunes store will restore my purchased files if it comes to that). If anyone has experience with this please guide me out of this tragic debacle. Thank you!

Look in your Users > [username] > Music > iTunes folder. What's there?
When you say you have "everything" on your iPod, is that "everything" that you are missing? If so, you can use Senuti (http://www.fadingred.org/senuti/) and reverse copy it.
From what I understand the iTMS will not restore lost music.

  • Saving Albums, Keyword Tags & Metadata in Photoshop 11

In Photoshop 11, when I create a new Album name or category, do I need to choose "Save Albums to File"?   Do I need to do something similar with Keyword tags "Save keyword tags to file"?  If I don't do this, would I lose my album names and keyword tags when I upgrade to a new Photoshop program?  What about my photo captions?  How are those saved?  Do I need to select all the photos in the album before I do this?
Also, under File, if I select "Save Metadata to Files", exactly what is saved?
I want to make sure that no matter what program I use my info goes with my pictures.

Most important to understand with the organizer (any version) is that if you want ALL additional information you have added to your catalog to be saved or backed up, and then restored totally, you have to backup your catalog from the organizer menu. Everything is stored in the 'catalog' folder: the catalog itself, a copy of all your media files and a backup.tly file which enables you to restore either on the same location or a new one (new computer, drive, new OS, new OS or PSE version...)

No, the wording is misleading. That command only saves the names and properties of your album panel, not the contents, in a text file. You can restore that structure in another album.

You don't need to if you have a PSE backup, but it may be a good idea, especially if you want to share your tags and ratings with another software (slideshow editor for instance). It's an additional safety measure.
There are three categories of data:
    - what is stored automatically in the metadata section of the files (or in .xmp sidecar files) : mostly captions and file 'date original'
    - what is stored manually via the 'write metadata to file' command : mainly tags, categories, ratings, notes, captions...
    - what can't be stored because it's not information pertaining to individual files : albums, stacks, version sets. That's why you should prefer to use tags instead of albums if you don't need a custom sort order.
As you have seen, you also can save your album structure, and, more important, your tags and categories in text files to copy them in new blank catalogs.

  • Why aren't album keyword tags written to metadata using Write Keyword Tag... command

When I display file properties within organizer it shows albums as keyword tags but after using the "Write Keyword Tag and Properties Info to File" command, the album keywords do not make it to the metadata.
Why is this?  I would really like for it to work.
I am using PSE version 8.  Does it change in version 9?
    Thank you!

    Ken,
    Thanks for your reply.
I think the way that Adobe has implemented albums is a little more like keywords than a saved search.  The reason I say this is because of the following:
    1. They appear with the keyword tags to the bottom right of the photo in the organizer.
    2. When you right-click on a photo and choose "Show Properties", they are listed with the other keywords.
    3. If you try to create a keyword with the same name as an album (to get the album name written to the metadata), PSE warns you that you already have a keyword with the same name.
I see what you are saying but I think the Adobe should either make a clear distinction between albums and keywords or at least give you an option to write the album keywords to the metadata if you choose.
Do you know how to submit product enhancement requests?
    Thanks again for your time.

  • Missing Albums and Photos in iPhoto!

I started up iPhoto today and none of my pictures are there! All of the folders are gone, none of the pictures are under Events or Last Import. In my hard drive the pics come up under All Images but after a few seconds the section is empty and it shows that there are 0 items instead of the 6122 items that should be there. I tried importing these pictures back into iPhoto, however after I started to select pictures to import it went back to saying I had no photos. I don't know what is going on! This has never ever happened.

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .
