Album Art Causing Digital Distortion

When I have ripped my personal CD's into iTunes and then added artwork, I have never had a problem. Yesterday, when I ripped some CD's and added the artwork, I started to get some very severe digital distortion when I played the tracks back. If I delete the tracks and re-rip the CD's without adding the artwork, they play fine. The only thing that has changed recently in my setup is that I have added a external RAID array. I've been using it for about three weeks with no problem. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions as to what to do? Thank you.

Upon further investigation, I have discovered that the problem exists without the album art. I have tried the audio error correction but that doesn't help at all. I will try a CD lens cleaner but that will have to wait a day or two. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Thank you.

  • Album art is distorted or messed up and music does not play correctly

I recently restored my iPod touch 2g to 4.2.1 and my album art looks mispositioned and distorted as you can see here:

However, album art is displayed correctly in Cover Flow and in iTunes
Another issure I have is that every song on my iPod Touch does not start at the beginning, it starts at the middle and plays for a few minutes then goes to the beginning of the song.
Is there anyway to fix this?

Yes they are correct in iTunes
I have tried that but it would reproduce the problem
I also get the error messages "The iPod cannot be synced. The required disk cannot be found." and "The iPod cannot be synced. An error occurred while writing to the device."

  • Distorted Album Art And Effects

When using the CoverFlow view in iTunes 7, my albums have a diagonal line through them. Also, the titles and scroll bars are not transparent as they should be. I've run the DirectX Diagnostic Tool and everyting passed. Is there some other graphics setting that I'm missing? Screenshot included: brihar73.home.comcast.net/itunes.jpg

I am also having the exact same issue with CoverFlow. In all other views, the album art looks fine.

  • Itunes sync distorts album art and does not recognize purchased tones?

I've avoided syncing my phone b/c every time I do it's jacked up everything. And this time was no exception. After syncing yesterday I now have the wrong album art displaying with the wrong artist as well as after re-purchasing 2 tones I'd already paid for FROM ITUNES not showing up as a selection to assign to a contact!  They show up in my Library as well as on the iphone content when plugged in but not as a selection to pick when trying to add to a contact. Also, I have a total of 23 tones showing in my Library with sync all tones checked but only 7 or 8 show up on my phone... I'll be happy if I can just get the 2 I want!!  Any suggestions on correcting the art work and syncing the tones I've paid for would be welcome.

If you use automatic syncing, you must set up the iPod's Music tab in iTunes so that the selection of songs includes all the songs you want on the iPod.
Select the iPod in iTunes.  There is a row of "tabs" (starting with Summary).  Click on Music there.  That is the Music tab, where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to the iPod.
To use automatic syncing for songs, Sync Music is checkmarked.  You can choose to sync Entire music library, if it fits.  Otherwise, you can choose to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.
If you chose the latter, you create a selection of songs on the Music tab by selecting playlists, artists, albums, and/or genres.  For example, if you want that new playlist, it must be checkmarked under Playlists.  If you want to keep it simple, you can create a new playlist in iTunes and put ALL song you want on the iPod on that playlist (including that new purchased song).  Back on the Music tab, checkmark that one playlist.
When you Apply the change, your selection of songs on the Music tab syncs to the iPod.  If the iPod was not previously set to use automatic syncing, its existing content is replaced.  Going forward, any changes to the iTunes Music library that relate to the selection of songs on the Music tab sync automatically when the iPod is connected, or when you click Sync.  So, if you are syncing a playlist as your selection of songs, just update that playlist (add and remove songs), and the iPod gets updated with those changes at the next opportunity.

  • Album Art not showing up?

Has anyone else had a problem with their album art not showing up in coverflip? These are all CD's that I own and ripped onto my computer with iTunes, and if I look at them in iTunes I can see the cover art. But when I turn my ipod sideways to flip through the albums, I see a bunch of black squares. Some of the albums I can see the artwork when it's not the selected album, but if I scroll to it, the art disappears and it's just an empty black square. The only albums where this seems to work properly are the ones I bought and downloaded digitally through iTunes, but most of my music collection is CD's, so I'm really hoping there's a way to fix this.
I've already tried googling pictures of the album art and re-tagging the songs with the picture on there, and it does do a sync afterwards, but I'm still seeing black squares. I also tried deleting one of the albums from my ipod entirely, and reloading it, and that worked the first time I went into coverflip, but in subsequent tries it has reverted back to being just a black square.

use the search discussions box. there are loads of threads on this. you definitely aren't alone
the only real solution i've seen is to re-sync the problem tracks, i've probably missed some though, so it's worth looking around.

  • My album art does not make it onto my iPhone 4S when I drag music over from my iMax in iTunes.

I have an iPhone 4S and the latest iMac.  I manually manage my content on my iPhone - I don't have anything automatically sync on it.  But when I drag music over to my iPhone the album art does not travel with it.  I have most of my audio in AIFF format in iTunes - other than stuff I buy digitally.  I have found that once the audio is over on my phone, I then have to copy the artwork over not once but TWICE before it will update on the phone and show up.  It does work though and that is fine.
My problem now is I purchase digital 'compilations' where each track has a different album cover because they come from different albums.  I just dragged over 250+ tracks and I'm not going to go in 1 by 1 and copy the album covers over twice for each track.
My phone used to update properly but in the last few months it stopped doing it properly so I'm wondering if there is something that needs to be reset on it to get it to work properly again.
I have all the files on my iPhone coverted to 128K for size issues and all my files in iTunes are at least 320K or higher so they all get down-converted when they are moved onto the iPhone.  I assume the artwork is somehow getting 'lost' in this conversion process.
    Thanks,
    Rob

Cool - yeah I grabbed that script as well.  Going to go through my library and run that one as well.  Seems to only be able to handle X amount of tracks at a time so will have to do it step by step.  I have about 21000 tracks in my library and it didn't like doing all at one time
Its fine if it compresses the images a bit - not a big deal.  Its only on my phone so its fine.  I'm probably a bit anal about things but I hate having tracks on my phone with no images - if there are images available.
    Thanks again!

  • How to properly embed album art work into TV/Films itunes: home sharing lag

My setup is a simple apple home sharing network.
I have a mac mini running OS X 10.6.8 and itunes 11.0.4(4) it hosts a lot of music, DVD's that have been re-encoded and paid for content from itunes.
The mac mini is conntected to the network over a very good gigbit lan and has 4 apple TV3 (latest gen) hanging off the network, and multiple PC/Mac/ipod/ipad devices hanging off the network.
I connect to the itunes home sharing service with the apple TV service using the "remote" application on the ipad.
When I select Music/Albums TV Shows or Films from the menu of the itunes library the album art work loads (quickly) over the grey boxes as I scroll down. However this takes a few seconds for each "scroll" I do on the ipad (it has thousands of items in there).
The exception to the rule is any paid content, when I open Music/TV/Films menu on the ipad the paid content (especially for TV and Films) the artwork is already there, and doesn't have to load it.
How is the artwork for paid content contained differently than the artwork for content I've manually put into the itunes library.
If I look at the itunes library locally on the machine hosting the itunes data, the artwork is there straightaway, no loading, pull up the items info with "get info" and click on art work, the artwork is there, and I can see no different in the art work settings for paid content or for content I've manually updated/loaded an image for.
So why/how does the paid for content have artwork on the ipad the exact second I open it over the network, yet the non-paid for content take a few seconds per screen to load it.
Is there something different in how the art work is embeeded, or is it a caching setting ? whats the difference.

    Dang You Autocorrect.
You don't saw what size and resolution the embedded artwork is. This could be part of the issue. Artwork on movies you purchase from the iTunes Store is 667x1000 at 72 DPI so if yours is larger than this is could be causing the delay.

  • Syncing Issues: album art, cut-off songs

I have a 16GB iPod Touch that I've been syncing with my Windows Vista PC, seemingly without complications. It has only recently come to my attention that somewhere between my computer's library and my library on my iPod, something is messing up at random times. Full songs will become half-songs, 30-second songs, on the iPod. They are not damaged on my PC, but when they get uploaded to the iPod, they get messed up. If I re-upload them, sometimes the problem goes away, sometimes it cuts in a different spot. This is immensely frustrating, as I do not know how to fix it or what is causing it to begin with.
More recently I have discovered that all the work I have done organizing my library and getting everything to have album covers is wasted when I try to put these albums on my Touch. The album covers entirely disappear, and I have to copy and paste them in, which takes about five minutes per album (slow write speed?). Seems pretty lame to have a product focused on the ability to flip through albums visually, and then have the album art not automatically download with my music.
    Any help?

I finally have the fix for this issue after a month of extensive debugging, experimentation, etc. on Windows Vista. I've reinstalled my whole **** computer twice, and Apple's phone support is a (bad) joke. They should just send me the script they use so I can read it myself.
First off, let's establish the symptoms of this problem:
    * Data sync'ed to my iPod Touch would corrupt at random points. Sometimes songs would go through intact. Other times they would "glitch" partway through and the device would advance to the next song. Video files of a sufficient size -- like movies and T.V. episodes -- ALWAYS glitch at some point, which crashes the video playback and brings the device back to the video menu.
    * Periodically, the iPod Touch would corrupt completely, which required a total firmware restoration. Rarely, these firmware restorations would also fail.
Now for the solution. It's a two-part deal:
    1) Stop "Windows Search." It's not the major cause of sync problems, but it is a contributor, which is unsurprising given the amount of resources it hogs. Open the "Services" control panel item (Control Panel->System and Maintenance->Administrative Tools->Services, or just type "services.msc" into the "search" box on the Start Menu) and double-click "Windows Search." Click "stop" and set the startup type to "disabled," then click "OK."
    2) This next part is going to be a bitter pill to swallow. When Microsoft launched Vista, it created a new "security feature" called PatchGuard which disallows direct kernel access to third-party applications. Antivirus vendors like McAfee, Symantec, Avast, etc. all have to use a kernel API rather than direct kernel access. However, Microsoft's own antivirus product -- Windows Live OneCare -- has complete access to the kernel without an API.
This appears to have created a weird situation with iTunes. I have reinstalled my system twice, both with 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Vista, and it seems that merely having a third-party antivirus product installed is sufficient to cause this problem. I've tried Avast, McAfee, Symantec and TrendMicro's products. The problem will not go away even if you turn off scanning, put in exceptions, etc. With Avast, I even terminated all of its processes and stopped its services. No dice. Just having a third-party antivirus product installed -- EVEN IF IT IS NOT RUNNING -- will cause this issue.
However, the second you UNINSTALL your third-party antivirus software, the problem goes away -- every time. I've sync'ed movies over and over again to test this, and it's definitely the primary source of the problem.
Obviously, running without antivirus software in this day and age is unacceptable, but there is one product that's free from this problem; in fact, it's the only product that still has direct kernel access. I'm running Windows Live OneCare on a 90-day trial right now, and after running more tests, I've confirmed my hypothesis. Any antivirus product with direct kernel access is fine. The problem is that Windows Live OneCare is the ONLY antivirus product right now with direct kernel access.
If you're running Windows Vista 32-bit, there may possibly be a second antivirus option. My Windows Vista-based gaming laptop uses Computer Associates' AV product, and it's never had a problem syncing with my iPod. I haven't really tested other products on it, though, so your mileage may vary. I can't say for certain that it's a safe bet.
So there you have it: one month of my nights and weekends down the toilet to fix an issue Apple and Microsoft should be handling. I feel like I've paid $500 for the privilege of being an unpaid Apple Q.A. tester. At this point, they should pay ME for the time I've wasted on this issue.

  • I can't add album art

When I try to add album art to, well my album, the image I choose is not sticking. My album is also in a playlist.
Here is what I am doing.
Select all (every song in the playlist is from the same album I would like to add album art to.)
    Click 'Get Info'
Drag a picture from my desktop to the little artwork box in the bottom right hand corner and click the little check box next to it.
    Click 'ok'.
Wait a few seconds.  Nothing happens.
Now the problem is, after I go through those steps the image does not transfer over to the songs. Individually or for the whole album.
I thought it would be a computer issue or one of those weird things where the album art shows on my iPad but not my computer so I tried sycing my iPad up and still nothing.
A couple of things as well:
I did click ADVANCED > GET ALBUM ARTWORK, it does not work.
I did not buy the album from iTunes, I bought it as a digital download from a different site.
I converted all the songs to AAC, I ust thought it would help.
There is no option to add album artwork to individual songs.  On an individual song, I click "get info" but there is no option to add art work to individual songs.
As of 7/24/12, I have the most recent version of iTunes.
Please help, this can't be this complicated.

  • Serious playback defect due to incorrect handling of album art

There is a serious issue with either the iPod firmware or the iTunes software that is causing erratic performance, skips in music, and, in a few rare instances, complete freezing of the iPod.
The issue either lies in how iTunes 'optimizes artwork' for the iPod, or in how the iPod reads and displays artwork from its database. Basically, the problem occurs when you select a song with album artwork and, for whatever reason, the iPod cannot handle the reading and displaying fast enough and it chokes momentarily, resulting in a very noticeable skip in the music playback.
This isn't all artwork, mind you - I see the problem more frequently with larger size and higher complexity pieces of artwork. I'm not sure why size and content are a factor, as the iTunes software supposedly 'optimizes artwork' to whatever extent is necessary so the iPod can utilize it properly, but there is definitely a correlation between the music skipping and the quality of the file.
For songs that also have lyrics, the iPod is brought completely to its knees. My 60GB 5G Video iPod consistently completely skips over songs with artwork and lyrics (if I select them, songs that are simply next in line on a playlist always play fine because there is more than enough time for them to be loaded into cache while the previous song plays).
I wasn't immediately sure what was causing these skips (both in music, and the complete skipping of songs) but on a whim I told the iPod not to display artwork - everything began to immediately work perfectly. Every song I tested loaded fine and played without a single skip, even the previous problem tracks with lyrics. Telling the iPod to display artwork again brought the problem right back full force.
I've restored the iPod numerous times, toggled display artwork on and off to force it to re-optimize near a dozen times now, and even this afternoon completely uninstalled iTunes, iPod software, and Quicktime from my computer, restarted, and reinstalled everything. I tried a friends computer the other day and same results every single time.
The problem was actually lessened by getting rid of all non-album art pictures - a lot fewer songs skipped, but some still did. Restoring the iPod and only putting ~10 tracks (10 of the really bad ones) produced unusual results - they all played fine. But then loading more tracks brought the problem back again (I have a 40 GB collection). Put pictures back on it and forget about it. So this leads me to believe that the iPod can't properly handle a large artwork database - long load times would be fine, but there must be something in the iPod's software that forces it to continue on after a certain amount of time has passed, whether it is ready or not, and that causes these skips.
This same exact problem plays out in the exact same way on a 60GB 4G Photo iPod - it's actually worse, probably because the newer 5G iPods have faster hardware that compensates a little better. I don't remember having these problems pre-iTunes 6 when I just had the 4G Photo iPod, but I never did a lot of testing. With the newest firmware and iTunes 6.0.2.23, both the 4G and 5G iPods are a mess.
Just for reference, all tracks I've been testing with are ripped directly from commercial CDs I own using Exact Audio Copy and LAME 3.97 - they all play flawlessly on the computer, in iTunes and other pieces of audio software, and they all play fine on the iPod when it is set not to display album artwork. My album artwork is normally ~500 x 500 pixels, and in JPEG format, so ~50-80 KB. So it is not insanely detailed, and iTunes is supposed to create all the proper sizes for use on the iPod so the iPod doesn't have to convert anything on the fly.

    Good detective work....
    Thanks for the heads up.
I just got a fifth gen Video 60g iPod and loaded my first tracts from my CD collection today.

  • When I downloaded iOS 7 my iTunes album art automatically changed for me. Loved it. When I downloaded iOS 8 update it went back to the original artwork. How do I get it back like iOS 7??

Okay, I'm going to try and make as much sense as I possibly can without confusing people. I hope someone can help! So when I downloaded the iOS 7 update one 'major' change I noticed was that my album art in iTunes had automatically changed for me. It was really cool, more up-to-date, and overall enjoyed how it looked. Made it look a lot neater than my own album art I had put on there. Now, when I downloaded the new iOS 8 update I notice that all my album art when back to its original picture which I had put on there. How do I get it back to where it was when I downloaded the iOS 7 Update?? Any help would be greatly appreciated! I know this isn't the most "dying for help" question, but I'm curious anyways to why it has changed. Thanks!

  • Album art missing under artists tab on iPad 2 running iOS 5

I restored my iPad 2 to iOS 5 as a new iPad. Everything synced fine the first time and all album art showed up perfectly, but when I synced a second time, for some reason my iPad ended up messing up all the album art in the music app, but only under the artists tab. I tried unsyncing all of the music, and then resyncing all of it again, but it did the same thing if I synced it again. Only 5 artists have album art showing, but the rest are blank, even though every single album in my music library has album art. The album art in the actual albums tab is fine. Here's a picture that shows what it looks like:

Yup, driving me mad! I use my Ipad2 for professional DJing but simply cant any more. It took me three days to re-organise all my music and albums and get all the artwork in. I made the MASSIVE mistake of clicking 'sync over wifi' in itunes and now half the album art is missing again. Every time I re-sync, different artwork appears and different artwork vanishes????
I have now wiped all my music and am re-syncing yet again to see if it works.
Does anyone from Apple exist and can explain what the heck is going on here as IOS 5 has rendered my device almost unusable for its main purpose. I have to say, I have gone from selling Ipads at all my gigs to telling everyone who comes up to have a look not to bother any more - its probably caused several hundreds of laughs already, not the kind of advert Apple wants I'm guessing????

  • IPod Will Not Display In My Compuater unless updating and album art.

Okay, when I plug my Ipod into my computer now it doesnt seem to immediatly recognise it. It takes a few minutes. When it does finally catch my IPod is not adding with any of my new songs the album art with it. It was also saying that ITunes Artwork file temp 2 was corrupt or something. I just want to get this problem solved before my 3 months are up cause its coming in two weeks.

    Have you Restored it?
just want to get this problem solved before my 3 months are up cause its coming in two weeks.
The iPod comes with a one year warranty.
You get one telephone support issue in the 90 days (meaning you ca call that one issue within the 90 days) and get it solved.
You have one year in which to have it repaired/replaced under waranty.
    You can post here forever.

  • Album Art not making it to iPhone 4S correctly

My Macbook Pro & PC running iTunes 11.01.12 do not transfer correct album art to my iPhone 4S. While playing music some ablum art looks like picture of a music video, or playing Snoop Dogg showing a picture of Mariah Carey

Sadly, there are lots of bugs syncing Smart Playlists on iPhones. Sort orders are lost, sometimes they don't come over, etc.
One thing that I've found is that if I sync and immediately unplug my iPhone, content is sometimes missing. I've found that leaving my iPhone plugged in for a minute or two after sync often fixes the problem. (!!)
If your stuff still doesn't come over, some people report that adding a rule to your smart playlist that says "Playlist is music" (or whatever) helps. Other people report that adding additional rules causes problems. I don't think there's a clear consensus, but, in short, try playing around with your smart playlists, either adding that "playlist is music" rule, or, if you've already got a bunch of rules, try simplifying them if you can.
