Album Art folder - Moving

How do I change the location of the album art file/folder? It has created it's own folder in "my documents" and I woul dlike to move it to another folder. I have used teh setting to move the library but have not found an option for album art stored location.

Here are typical layouts for the iTunes folders:
Ideally your library would be in the layout on the right and stored either at <User's Music>\iTunes or the top level of a different drive, e.g. D:\iTunes, with all content inside the iTunes Media folder.
iTunes usually doesn't cope well if you move files around by hand so getting from where you are now to where you want to be might take a few steps. How easy it is also depends on whether you can afford to let iTunes copy every song you have into the correct location before deleting the originals. If not I can offer a script that can move files around instead of copying them. The first thing to establish is the current locations of your library files and your media folder. The script iTunesInfo can help reveal this if you're not sure.
I have a post on making a split library portable that describes how to restructure your library. If you let me know what things are where I can suggest a set of steps that will get your library set up right.

  • Help In Moving the Album Art Folder

    Hi,
Wonder if anybody can help me... I am running the latest ITunes on Windows Media Center edition. My problem is that the Album Art Folder is located on my C: drive and I am running out of storage and would like to move it to my Itunes folder on my other drives where my music is currently located. Also if anybody knows how to move the Ipod games folder that would be great as well.
    Thanks in advance

I've experienced this problem when my album art where TOO BIG and TOO SMALL. But once I deleted those problems and re-added new one's of a better size. It worked. Don't know if that's your problem. I have also found that it doesn't always update all the album arts at once. Usually I have to do a few updates for it to update all. Also sometimes I feel that it's a good idea to reformat the ipod with the ipod updater. Hope that helps.

  • Missing album art after moving library

    Hi,
I had to move my iTunes library to my new computer. The music files were then place on the H:-drive instead of the D:-drive. I also copied the iTunes folder from my old computer over to my new compuer's My Music folder - just as it was located on my old computer.
iTunes had no problem locating the music files, but it appears that all the album art is missing. I have checked that my Album Artwork folder is copied as well.
Is there any quickfix to this, or do I have to reload all the album artwork? There were quite a few albums for which I had located the art manually (not using iTunes) so it's a shame if it's all lost
    Any help is appreciated.
    thanks and regards,
    Svein-Helge Lea

    It's solved !!
It was really silly of me not to see this immediately. On my old computer I had the small album art window showing "selected item", but after moving to my new computer it showed "Now playing". And last night I wasn't playing, hence nothing showed up there.
Now evertything is okay and in place.
    Thanks anyway.

  • Lost all album art after moving library to new HD

So, I found that my iTunes library was growing too big for my primary hd. I added an extra internal HD and followed the instructions on how to move my iTunes library found here (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301748). Everything seemed to come over ok (playlists, play counts) except for my album art. All of it has gone missing. I can't possibly add all that art in again. Can anyone tell me how to get my art back (I still have the original iTunes folder on my primary HD) or what I did wrong in moving the library.
    Thanks
    P.S. I'm running iTunes 6.0.1 on a G5 with 10.4.3
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

OK Ive attempted all the suggestions mentioned here but have still had no luck. I deleted all the original iTunes docs on my Mac and rebooted etc but iTunes is still refusing to ignore the new iTunes folder on my new external HD, even though it is already connected.
I also tried to import the songs back into iTunes by creating a new iTunes folder on my ext HD but it just seems to create a duplicate of the folder Im trying to get iTunes to recognise and I cant see the point in waiting another 12hrs to import the songs again just so iTunes can recreate a duplicate of what I already have !
Heres how Ive directed iTunes to the folder using prefs :
    NewHD/Music/iTunes/iTunesMusic
and then in the iTunesMusic folder are the artists folders and then inside of them are the album folders for each artist.
I also had a bunch of other stuff in my iTunes folder that I have tried iTunes with the items still in the folder and them taken out, heres what they are :
Album Artwork Folder (But this has been recreated on my Mac since I reset iTunes)
    iTunes Export Text File
iTunes Library Data File (Again recreated on my Mac since resetting iTunes)
iTunes Music Library.xml File (Again recreated on my Mac since resetting iTunes)
Previous iTunes Libraries Folder containing 3 iTunes Library Data Files named iTunes 4 Music Library, iTunes Library 2005-9-8 and iTunes Library 2006-09-12.
As I have said I have tried iTunes both with these files and without unless Im using them in the wrong place.
Can any please possibly help me with my situation and the placement of the right files in the right place as I do not wish to have to go through the process of re-importing especially when all iTunes is going to do is recreate something that I already have ... many thanks

  • Moving Album Artwork Folder

I keep all of my music on an external hard drive, I have recently have been adding the album artwork to my music. I move the album art folder to my external, but the album art folder keeps reappearing on my computer's internal drive, I want it to only be on my external. Essentially I would like to know if there's a way to relocate the album art folder just like the way you can relocate the iTunes music folder.
    Thanks

You can't - it's hard coded into iTunes, as far as I can tell.

  • Transferring Album Art from a Mac to a Windows PC

I have iTunes on both my Mac and Windows PC- with the same library on both.
I found a great utility called Curator that found all my missing album art on the Mac, but it only works on the Mac, not the PC
So after spending a day finding all my missing album art on the Mac, I thought that simply copying the Album Art folder from my Mac to my Windows PC would enable me see all my art on my windows machine.
This did not work. I still have the same missing album covers.
I tried removing all Album Art from my PC (by selecting "Clear Downloaded Artwork" and then I selected all my music and chose "Get Album Artwork".
This put back all my original album art but none of the new artwork downloaded by Curator.
Does anyone know how to get iTunes to see all the Album Art in the Album art folder that I just copied from my Mac?

Diane is correct — the artwork you downloaded is embedded in the music files, so the only way to transfer the art is by transferring the files. Is there a reason you don't want to just copy your entire iTunes library from the Mac to the PC?
I don't know why dragging the artwork into the artwork box would result in a lower-quality image. What do you see when you click on the artwork box to open a full-size version? Is the picture 300x300 or better?

  • Using iTunes Match, very little album art is showing

I'm using Mavericks on a 2009 unibody (white plastic) Macbook.  This is not my main computer so I'm trying to free up storage space.  I had the idea to delete all of the music files from the Music folder and just use iTunes Match as a streaming service, just like on my iPhone and iPad.  (The music files are stored on my main Mac with multiple redudant backups.)
I may have gotten overzealous in deleting data.  I saw an album art folder with over 1 gigabyte of data and deleted that as well.
Now all of the music still shows up in the Album view - as it should - however very few of the tracks have any album art.  I gave it some time to see if the art would download from iTunes Match, but it's not happening (get album art is enabled in preferences).
I had the idea to hold down the Option key while restarting iTunes and create a new library, then let iTunes Match populate it.  I don't want to download any content, I just want everything to show up with album art.
Will this work, and how would I remove the corrupted library if it does?

Thanks but still no luck I'm afraid.
To update: I have been using itunes 6 from the outset and have always manually updated the ipod - it has never even been switched to automatic as I changed this at the start (advice from a friend). File formats for the affected tracks are all either AIFF or Apple Lossless - same as all the unaffected tracks.
The even stranger thing is that artwork for some albums, where all the tracks were imported manually at the same time, shows for some tracks on the ipod and not others. The artwork does, however, show for all of the tracks on the ipod when viewed through itunes!

  • "album art file corrupt: run chkdsk utility"

a message saying "album art folder is corrupt: run chkdsk utility" pops up every time i connect my ipod to my computer... on top of that, my album art won't display... what should i do?

Running Windows. Go to MY Computer. Find your IPOD and "Right Click" and select "Properties", then "Tools". Select "Error Checking". This will take a few hours to complete.

  • Album Art does not appear unless I buy from iTunes

I imported hundreds of cd's into my iTunes library and I noticed that the album art was not appearing. The only album art that appears on my color iPod is from the songs that I purchase from iTunes. Can anyone tell me if I can get the album art from my CDs to appear in my iTunes library and on my iPod? Thanks for any suggestions.

Thanks, Mimico Kid! Your suggestion was extremely easy and worked like a charm!
I basically went to Amazon.com like you suggested, searched for all of my cd's in the Amazon music section. Once each cd was listed, I enlarged the album cover to its largest size and then right-clicked on the largest image and then "saved as" the name of the cd in a separate, Album Art folder that I created in the "My Pictures" folder on my c drive. Then I opened iTunes and the Album covers folder that I created and dragged the jpeg of the album cover into the section of iTunes on the lower left side where users are prompted to drag album art.
Here's a hint to significantly quicken the transfer of album art from your separately created "Album Art" folder on your hard (c:) drive to iTunes: select all of the songs of a particular cd listed in your iTunes library before you drag the album art over from your separately created "Album Art" folder. That way, when you do drag the album art over, it will be applied to all of the selected songs - this saves lots of time if you have multiple tracks from CDs in your iTunes library.

  • Album Art 815MB, Why?

Why is my Album Art folder 815MB?
I know your going to ask so... I have 7627 items. Most are full albums only requiring a single image.

the reason iTunes is different than WMP is twofold:
The auto downloading, if I understand correctly, is under contract from a service that Apple didn't sign up to. Therefore WMP gets the files, iTunes doesn't.
The art in iTunes is kept, as per the official specifications, within the file itself, no in the folder.
You can probably fix the art problem by clearing and reloading the iPod.

  • Album Art does not download while purchasing songs from iTunes

    Hi !
Of late, music I have purchased from iTunes does not seem to download the album art ie: the music downloads fine, but there is no album art with it, despite the fact that on the iTunes site it DOES have album art when advertised.
Has anyone else had this situation, if so, is there a fix ?
Note this is happening only recently.
    Thanks !

  • ITunes moved to new HDD - Playlist missing, album art on different drive, etc

OKay... so I had everything on an external HDD. I wanted to move everyhing to a new external HDD. I have playlists, album art that I downloaded and added, etc. In the past I have moved from my local HDD to an external without a hitch. This time was a disaster!
I had everything on drive G:\
I wanted to move everything to drive Z:\
I initially ended up with duplicates pointing to the same file on G:\
I deleted all the duplicates and retained the original file. All was okay at this point.
I then created a new folder in Z:\ called iTunes and pointed iTunes to this location. I then used the Consolidate Library function.
Now, I have my media on Z:\ but it seems now my library database, and album art folders are in C:\user\username\Music\iTunes
I never had anything in this location.... why is it suddenly here? and how can I get everything back?
The database files are definitely pointing to Z:\ as I can see from the XML file <key>Location</key><string>file://localhost/Z:/iTunes/Music/Ac.....
Otherwise, how do I point everything back to my G:\ and startover? Perhaps provide a link to a resource that will give me good instructions on what to do...
Thanks in advance for the help!

Visionplace, i have the issue where my ipad2 changes/edits to my current playlists are NOT synced up with my itunes 11 on my computer (Windows 7).  I have icloud and Itunes Match is turned on.  My settings are to auto-sync and i have ALL my music set to be synced, not just select playlists. (Note I have not tested whether new playlists will appear because i usually just edit my existing ones).
So whenever i make playlist changes on my ipad2 (e.g., add or delete songs), i see the changes correctly on my iphone 4, and my Apple TV within 15 minutes without taking any steps, but they do NOT appear on my itunes 11 on my computer (Windows 7).  The only way i have found to get the ipad2 playlist edits onto my itunes on my computer is to sync my iphone4 up with the computer. (My ipad changes are already on the iphone 4 automatically). My computer's itunes 11 CAN see the playlist edits i have made on the iphone4 (immediately), but not the ipad.  It *****, but it works for me.
For new music purchases (from itunes store) on my ipad2, the only way i can see them on my itunes 11 on the computer is to go to the store, and download them again. Otherwise, they will not appear.
Note - in another forum when i was researching this ipad sync issue, someone had stated that the ipad/computer sync is one way. (I.e., from computer-to-ipad only). If true, that would explain why the ipad edits and new music purchases dont show up in my computer itunes. However, the iphone sync must be two ways.

  • Adding Album Art to iTunes Local Folder?

I have a setup on iTunes on my Dell Dimension Desktop Machine. Basically I have uploaded ALL my CD collection to HDD in WAV format to retain sound quality.
My problem is with getting all the Album Art to work.
About one third of my collection iTunes does not have the Album Art? so I have scanned it all manually and placed an Folder.jpg in each Album/Track Folder.
I appreciate that WAV music files don't have a means of adding extra data to them like MP3 files, therefore, iTunes saves its own downloaded Album Art in a folder called "Download", there is also another Folder called "Local" which is where your manually added Album Art should go?
These are stored as .itc files
However then I try to manually try to add my own album art to the album, by selecting all tracks, Get info, Add album art to the white square and pressing OK nothing happens?
In the Artwork display box it say in large text "Artwork Not Modifiable"? for some reason?
    Any ideas??

Hi Andrew. As far as plug&play, I have not found anything. My best bet was to use a proper utility to grab album art on a go forward basis for all new tracks, and then for the old tracks that have the incorrect metadata, I slowly go through, open up a browser with amazon.com loaded, and then search for the albums/related art that I need. Once I find it I click on the album art in the main browser, which spawns a child window with just the jpeg of the album art in it, and then drag and drop it from that browser into the album art pane. Far from plug and play, but it gets the job done.

  • I recently moved my itunes library. Itunes deleted a lot of artist and album info and album art. Now it won't let me edit the info to correct it. Any advice on to correct this?

I recently bought a new Asus laptop and moved my itunes to it. All of my files are stored on an external hard drive. In the process of importing my files into itunes on the new laptop, some artist and album info has been deleted. A lot of album art is missing as well. I attempted to correct the missing info, but now itunes won't let me edit any track, artist or album info. Any idea what the problem is and how I can fix it? Thanks.

You can't use your account's balance for gifting, you can only use a credit card - your balance can only be used to buy content for yourself. Until you pay what you owe iTunes then you won't be able to download any items from the store on that account.
If you haven't got a valid credit card then you can try contacting iTunes support and see if they can cancel the gift or take what you owe them from your balance: http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page
