Album Art insanity and clarifications

Why is the store so unintelligent when it comes to album art? I type in EXACTLY what it needs in every field for artists, title, and album, yet it keeps insisting it doesn't have it when I can browse to it from my library.
Is there any way to make it more lax or smarter?
I also intend to contact apple directly about this since staff don't read the forums.
Also I've seen around that people say iTunes retains artwork when transferring libraries. That doesn't seem to be the case. I transferred from my pc to apple and lost all the downloaded artwork (1500+ tracks worth of artwork -_-;; )
Thanks

Having the same problem. I'm importing as AIFF (uncompressed) and it seems that when the cover is not available in iTunes Store, it just plainly does not allow to manually include any other artwork. I've tried re-importing CDs, even not connected to the Internet so it wouldn't check with iTunes Store availability... pasting the cover on a track-by-track basis, as multiple track selection... but there's no way. I did not have these problems in AAC but I do not want to reduce quality of music...

  • New album art feature and the album art screen saver

    Hi,
I've been using (and enjoying) the built-in album art screen saver for my locked screen for a long time. A few days after I've updated to iTunes 7, I began to delete old covers of my favorite albums (low resolution, bad color, read: Google image search) and applied the better-looking ITMS covers by selectively using the "get album art" feature.
Since I did that, those favorite albums do not appear in the screen saver rotation anymore.
I'm aware that the downloaded covers aren't saved in-file but in the /Album Artwork folder, so I'm certain that's the problem - the screen saver isn't programmed to look for those.
Now, does a workaround exist for that? Does Apple plan a small update (unlikely) / did anybody write a compatible clone / did anybody found a hack? Unfortunately, it's not in the localizible part of "iTunes Artwork.saver".
Thanks in advance for your help!

Same problem that I am having. I enjoyed the album art screen saver. Since I updated to v7 the screen saver doesnt seem to work correctly. Spent the first day of release getting most of my albums (shockingly more then I thought). Enabled the screen saver, but only got 4 albums to show up, no others. Testing it more, I removed the art for the albums that showed up, which got me to 1 album, removed and then got the error that my iTunes Library had no albums with artwork. Weird.. Removed my library, reloaded, and ALL the artwork is gone. Tried going a few albums at a time manually and it shows in iTunes, the new Album Art Dir updates with new stuff. but nothing for the screen saver. Good idea in principle, kinda bad in excuction is my thoughts right now. Hope for a fix soon.

  • Album art sync and disp

For any one who has tried absolutely everything to get the album art?on their zen vision m and have it fail. I feel for you. If this is you, consider using a program called media monkey. It doesn't matter what size the pics are and it syncs them straight to your zen. It is so simple and it actually works. It can also covert music to a different format. Hope this helps

Lol. I actually do have album art, but I'd like to remove it but I don't know how; please read my topic!

  • Album Art Work and Playlists are Gone!

I reformatted my computer and when I connected my ipod nothing came up. So I had to download itunes agian and it came up blank. Everything is still on my ipod, art work and all. But after I had to manually transfer from the ipod back to itunes, only a portion of my music could be moved. None of my album art work or playlist are available anymore. I spent hours creating this stuff and have to start over again. So what's the the deal? Ipod or itunes has some sort of clause that if you buy a new computer or format your old one you're screwed? Any comments?

So you reformat your computer and then are surprised that after you reinstall iTunes you get an empty library?
    Anyway...

  • Itunes Album Art and mp3 play problem

I could use some advice on a solution or what to try next. I have 30k+ songs that I added album art too and synced with my video Ipod. Everything was going fine until a couple of days ago. I noticed in Itunes that certain albums now do not display the album art, Where the album art should be, it says "album artwork not modifiable" For these same albums, Itunes won't play the songs either. I press the play button and nothing happens. The artwork is still on my Ipod, and I can play the music from my Ipod, but not on Itunes.
I have verified that the compatibility mode solution did not fix my problem.
The files are all unprotected mp3's
The MP3's are not hidden or write protected.
The MP3's play in Windows media player just fine.
When I copy the files from my Itunes library to another folder, and try to re-import the music, Itunes goes through the motions of re-adding the music but does not add the songs.
I have taken the MP3's and ran them through DBpowerAMP and converted the unplayable MP3 to a new MP3 file and then Itunes recognizes it, but I have lost my artwork.
With the quantity of songs I have and the fact that not all songs are corrupt, I'm stuck on how to get Itunes to recognize this music again. Is this an Itunes problem? What should I try next? I'm running Win XP SP2, Itunes 6.0.3.5.

I had this happen to one song file. I never figured out why, but it seemed that the addition of the artwork corrupted the file so that it was unplayable within iTunes. No other of my 13,000 songs have ever had this problem.
This was an AAC format song in my case. See this thread for some possible fixes for MP3 files:

  • Why is my album art downloading to the wrong music?

When I am syncing my iPhone, I am getting an error (-54) at times. I am also seeing the wrong album art downloading with the incorrect music. Whenever I use a song for my alarm, I see music that I do not have checked to be on my phone showing up and it always has the wrong album art. Please advise. Thank you so much!

The only way I was able to get the album art correct was to hook my iPod up to my laptop and then go into iPod Preferences and check the box that says hide Album art. I then updated my iPod and all my album art was wiped off my iPod. The next step is to go back into preferences for the iPod and enable album art again and the next time I updated...BINGO, all my artwork was put back correctly. It took a little work but I'm happy with it!

  • Few problems/questions! (cover flow, album art...etc)

Ok I finally added my songs to my new IPOD (replaced my old one) and this is my first Ipod with video, color...etc. Its the IPOD Classic 80 GIG.
    Well I am having a few problems/questions:
---Why when I hit "Get album art" does it ONLY get art for my videos? It doesn't get any for all 1,500+ songs! Is it because they aren't downloaded from Itunes? If so then why does it do it for the movies then? They aren't from ITunes either!
---With Cover Flow I updated the Album Art myself and have about 700 songs with art now. But I have two problems.
    1. It won't display all 700 songs under Cover Flow!
    2. It won't show them in order by song name! Can I change that?!? If not then how is it showing them by? What do I need to change?
---Are there any other video types supported besides that on Mpeg4 and that other weird type? If not why not? Its a pain to have to convert everything. Its almost not worth having this video IPOD if you have to go through sop much effort just to watch 1 stupid video. I mean I spent more money on extra programs now for music and videos then I did on the IPOD almost.
---Is there any way to transfer your music from one IPOD to another? I know some people say you can't but why? What about people like me who have music ripped from our own cds and NOTHING from ITunes? Its a REAL pain having to rerip all the cds, put them back on, rename all the songs, fix all the info...etc. Its taken me 4 days now. Apple needs to think about a "IPOD TO IPOD" music transfer kinda program.
---How do you get pics on the IPOD without having to keep them on your PC? I notice it has to SYNC them every time I have it plugged into the PC! But if I tell it NOT to sync pics anymore then they won't stay on the IPOD if turn that option off and unplug the IPOD. Theres got to be another way to add them.

Cover flow on the ipod can only be done (as far as I know) on Album by Artist Name. On iTunes you can change it around

  • Podcast Get Info Album Art Not Saved for Future Episodes

I have iTunes 8. I noticed most of my podcasts have album art showing in grid view. When I upgraded to 2.1 on my iPhone and synced my iPhone I noticed no album art on the podcast main page on the iPhone. I decided to restore the phone to a new phone not backup and the new sync of my podcasts showed album art. However inside each podcast the album art wasn't showing on each episode.
Looking at iTunes for those affected episodes doing a Get Info showed not album art. I guess the podcast doesn't have album art. I right click on the podcast, not an episode, and select get info. I click on the album art box and check the box and inside the album art box double click which brings up a navigation display. I had already taken a screen shot of the album art in the iTunes music store for each podcast. I import the graphic to the album art box and save. All the current episodes have their artwork updated. Now I sync to the iPhone and all is well.
If I download a new episode for this podcast and do a Get Info on this episode there is no artwork. Looking at the Get Info for the podcast the artwork was never saved. However if you change a text field in Get Info and then download a new podcast episode that text field in the get info of the episode is updated. Why doesn't the album art not get saved and update each episode that is downloaded with missing album art?
    Am I missing something?
    Thanks
    Kelvin

Yeah, on my iPhone some of the album art for my podcasts was actaully changed to an arbitrary incorrect image. For example, instead of the Cranky Geeks logo, I get to look at New Kids on the Block (don't ask). I'm going to try unsubscribing from the podcast, deleting past episodes from my computer, sync the phone so it wipes out those old episodes and incorrect art, and then resubscribing and resyncing the phone. Hopefully that will transfer the correct art back up to the phone.

  • Album Art Not Displaying/Disappearing

I've had the iTouch for a week & all of a sudden most of the album art disappeared from the iTouch. I synced again, some came back but much of the album art does not display even though it's in the iTunes library. Also, album art is duplicated for other/different artists. What's happening? Any solutions?

This is also happening to me.
First the album art vanished, and then I would resync, and the album art would go to different albums.
my Breaking Benjamin album art went on my Frank Sinatra album, and my Gnarls Barkley album.
My 50 Cent album art went to the Brad paisley album, and the Rufus Wainwright album .This is doing this, even after I updated the iPod.

  • NEED 2 GET ALBUM ART ON IPOD USINING ITUNES 7

don't know how to update album art on ipod but
    library art is updated

The next time you connect your iPod, and you are automatically syncing, the iPod will be updated with that information. If you are manually managing the songs on the iPod you may need to re-add them.
In another thread when the songs were not loading the artwork, it was resolved by unchecking the album art option, and rechecking it.
Your iPod needs to be one with a Color Display to support artwork. This includes iPod Photo, iPod w/Color Display, iPod 5G, or iPod Nano.

  • How to: restore box in the lower left where album art used to show

How come no one else has asked this question?  Apple keeps mucking around with the look, feel and features of iTunes and it is more than annoying.  You want to lean forward and slap them a good one and tell them to knock it off.
I have finally been able to get the traditional side bar back but cannot find a way to toggle on the little box in the lower left where the album art used to show.  It used to be so easy to drag in an album art cover and another box would pop up allowing you to populate the fields pertaining to the song.  Now I have to hit the "Get Info" button to add the field info.  And what I dislike most is that I play a lot of the same songs sung by different artists and it was easy to quickly see which album was playing by looking in that left hand corner at the album art.  Now I have to dash and dart all over the place to find the right album.
If you know the answer please respond.  Thanks.

If Apple wonders why iTunes users abandon the program and move elsewhere this is a fine example.  Once a strong devotee I no longer feel that way and my next machine won't be a Mac.  Apple could have simply made it a toggle but no ... you do as Apple demands and it is that thinking (our way or the highway) that makes people bristle and walk away.
They are blind if they think they've "improved" iTunes.  Today it is more annoying than anything they have previously offered.  Appreciate the response.

  • Putting Album Art On By Album

I'm putting the album art on the cd's i loaded myself and wanted to know if there was a way to do it by album instead of song-by-song. I know how to get the art and put it on for each song but it's so time comsuming. Is it possible to load it by album?

Or just do it the easy way, without selecting anything:
-Open the Browse menu at the top of the Library.
-Open the Album Art panel, and change it to "Selected Song" by clicking on the top of the panel until it reads that.
-Select the album you want to add art to in the Browse Menu up top (rightmost side). You can narrow the list of albums by picking a Genre/Artist first, of course.
-When you select the album, all the songs in that album will be displayed. Without clicking on any of those songs, you can drag and drop the album artwork onto the album art panel and it will be added to every song you see in the list. You must not select any songs, however. If you do, then it will only be added to those songs that you selected.

  • "Software for Album Art"

    Hello everybody,
I used to use a program called, "Fetch Art" for find album art work and I had good luck with it overall..however since the recent update of iTunes I cannot use this program anymore--it errors out.
Other than signing up for an iTunes account, is there another software package that I could try for finding album art?
    Thanks,
    Norm

    Try Clutter, at http://www.sprote.com/clutter/
Whats cool about this program, besides being free, it allows you to place album covers on your desktop that you can click on that will launch iTunes. I still use it to find album art work.

  • Album art shown in grid view

In the new grid view which shows the album art for artists, is there a way to set the image shown for the artist, like you press space to choose the picture shown in iPhoto?
It's annoying at the moment becasue I use it in artist mode but some artists with more than one album show the image for a compilation that they are on rather than one of their albums. Eg, under Coldplay, the artwork shown is a Now album, rather than say Viva la vida. Can I change the album shown as the main image?
    Thanks

Ok, I've been playing around with iTunes 8 and have found the answer myself. If when in Grid view with more than the one album for the artist, show the album art required and right click and choose Set Default Album Artwork and it will change it to this. Alternatively choose Get Info whilst on the grid view and it will allow you to paste an artwork in here which it will use as a default.
Hope this helps anyone else wanting to do a similar thing!

  • Non-iTunes downloaded songs are becoming corrupted, starting with album art

I have Windows Vista, and I just got a new refurbished iPod touch 64gb 5th gen.
For some reason, songs that I have downloaded (not from iTunes) are becoming corrupted?? some are even old songs I have downloaded months ago but most of this seems to be with songs stuff I haven downloaded recently. This literally just happened yesterday. The album art is showing up on iTunes as half downloaded or with a broken, glitchy bar after I sync to my iPod. Then, most of those songs are corrupted, making those skipping noises in the song. What is even stranger is that most of these messed up songs are ONLY messed up on iTunes, on my iPod they're fine, but then some of them get corrupted on both. I use a "Passport" EXTERNAL hard drive, could there be a problem with that?? Everything I have downloaded is saved to that external hard drive and like I said, even some of the old songs I downloaded months, even years ago are having the album art problem and some of them the sound quality corruption.
I tried restarting and re downloading iTunes hitting the "repair" option, but I think this may be the external hard drives problem?
Does anyone know what I should do? Am I asking this question in the correct place?

I can't seem to get album art to download into some of my songs. I compare my song information with the information that's in the iTunes music store & it matches word for word but it won't download the art. I can understand if iTunes didn't have the album but they do & the art wont download at all. I click "get album art" so many times & nothing shows up.
