Album Art is total screwed up

I have upgraded to 7.0.1. Yet the album art issue remains.
First of all, iTunes Store in some cases treats each single song in a single album as individual album, under the album view.
Second, my music library contains songs I imported from my CD collection. Although I can see a folder for the imported album art, somehow the album art does not get imported into iTunes.
Apple really needs to address this issue. I thought the album scrolling view is fantastic. But without album arts, the feature is useless.

try deleting the temp files, history of internet explorer, cookies and all. worked for me

Try unchecking "display album artwork" in the music preferences section when your iPod is connected and click "apply". Then sync your ipod.
Then check "display album artwork" in the music preferences section when youd iPod is connected and click "apply". Then sync your ipod again.
This should resync the album artwork to the iPod.
If this does not work, you might need to restore the iPod and reload the songs in order to correct this error.
See: How to restore the iPod to factory settings.

  • Problem opening album-art as could be done with previous iTunes versions

    Issue Description:
In previous versions of iTunes you had an icon of the album-art bottom left of screen when you were playing the song. If you clicked the album-art icon it would open into its own window and you could stretch it as large as either the image dimensions allowed or as large as your monitor allowed.
I always use custom album art.
With iTunes 11, I cannot find any way of achieving the same thing. All we get at best is a 2 cm large album-art icon at best which if you click it starts the album from the beginning.
Question: Surely there is a way to achieve what was achievable with earlier iTunes versions with an ability to open and stretch the album-art so you can view it up large? If so how is it done now?
As it is, a 2cm icon of album-art is totally pointless and removes all interest in album-art. I prefer looking at album-art than the visualizer things which don't interest me. I'm probably from the old-school of vinyl records where album art was actually something to look forward to and some artists put a lot of effort into their album designs. I also put a lot of effort into custom album-art designs for personal use.
I cannot seem to find similar questions/answers on this comminity board.

Thanks for your replies. I forgot to mention about the mini-player which I had tried. But the artwork is still very limited in size. But at least a little bigger than the icon lol. I have the old 30 inch Mac monitor, so having artwork I can spread across the screen can be great. (Especially when it's my own artwork lol)
I totally agree with those views in the link you gave. Too many to repeat except that iTunes has become very cluttered. I first used iTunes in OS 9 or was it OS 8 I can't remember. I don't think it appeared until OS 9. And some files I ripped and backed up as audio files back then are unrecognisable on OSX.
VLC is a third the size but can play almost anything under the sun. XLD is only 19 MB but can "rip ('properly' without ignoring errors like iTunes does) and convert" at audiophile quality for numerous audio formats and includes LAME for mp3. Vox, great miniature app (5 MB) to play most audiio file types but lacks a proper library system  for ease of browsing what you may wish to play at any moment in time. Find me an OSX audio app with a decent library system & I will probably change. ATunes a java audio app does not give me any sound lol. It has a messy library system anyway. But its ability to play FLAC and import the iTunes library was appealing.
The ol' downgrade iTunes version trick. Yeah tried that a couple of times over the years. Should have learnt the first time. Not sure iTunes' designers change the library formatting on purpose in an attempt to prevent downgrading.
I will follow your advice about the Feedback. Thanks again.

  • Album art screwing up

Every time I download/buy something from the store through iTunes it will screw over half the album art up. If I download/purchase it through my ipod it doesn't mess anything up. The only way I have found to fix the problem is to restore the ipod, but that is getting old very fast. I have restored it 3 times today alone. and another 5 times since Sunday. There has to be another way to fix the problem. If there isn't then I have a 2nd gen iPod Touch for sale.

    Hello Everyone,
Just a quick update regarding this problem. I have NOT solved this issue, and it seems that it is becoming worse. At this very minute, I am looking at my iPod that is plugged into the Apple Dock, plugged into the USB port of my Inspiron, and artwork that was complete (showing the full image of the artwork) just MOMENTS before, is now showing the same half-screen artwork.
I had listened to this song, while plugged into the dock, then decided to sync to put the newest podcast on my iPod, then upon returning to play the song again (in a playlist) the artwork is now corrupt.
PLEASE. If anyone with any insight to this problem knows of any way to stopthis from happening, or even to fix it, PLEASE let me know.

  • Album Art Screwed Up

I have all of the correct album art set-up. All of the names and info is right. The album art is correct on the computer, however, when I go to my iTouch, the album art is messed up. It is taking other art from other albums and putting it in random other albums. it is also taking iMix art, even after the iMix has been deleted, and using it for album art. If I try to go in and erase and put in the correct art on my computer, it will fix that one album, but four other ones will have messed-up art. Any idea on how to help?

You need to re-build the artwork index on the Touch, which requires you to either delete all music and re-add it, or better yet, Restore the Touch and re-load your last backup (which also deletes music and re-adds it). This happens on occasion and is a nuisance, but an easy one to fix.

  • Podcast screwed my album art...

Ok. Yesterday, every one of my 233 songs had artwork. And everything was fine.
Last night, I "subscribed" to a podcast and downloaded some episodes.
But, today, artwork is gone on some of my songs, and I thought "display album art" must be checked off.
And..luckly, it was. However, after I checked it on, the same songs still have no artwork.

Sorry. This is just an obnoxious bump, but I would really like to know why this is happening.

  • Album art seriously screwed up

I noticed that a bunch of songs and albums on my iPhone 3G are missing their album artwork- it just displays the generic music note logo on the phone, but the artwork is present in iTunes. Interestingly, the messed up albums are almost entirely in the bottom half of the album list when sorted by artist. The art is apparently not visible from any mode on the iPhone: not in coverflow, not in the album list, not the locked desktop, but again, it's there in iTunes.
I have tried resetting the phone, syncing again, etc. I even tried re-applying the artwork or converting ID3 tags, but once I started doing that, the album art started *showing up on the wrong albums*. What do I do?

I tried un-synching music (which then removes the music from the iphone) and then re-synching the same music back (which adds it back on the next sync), and this fixed the issue of mixed up artwork. I've seen that this doesn't work fro everyone, but it's worth a first try as it involves the least amount of work.

  • Album art screwed up how to fix?

In preparation for getting an iPhone I installed iTunes 7.7 pointed it at my music directory (that Media Player 11 in Vista is using it, but with the "allow iTunes to organise directory" option off).
I told it to add all files in that directory and skip the WMAs just to see what it was like as I have some unprotected mp3s. It some how picked up some album art from some where (auto-download is off) but it looked all blurry - probably due to low res - so I right-click and tell it to download artwork and this does nothing, (on those missing artwork I got a nice good quality image). So I find a decent quality image on Google and try and paste it into the mini artwork viewer in the bottom left - which even had a paste option - but it doesn't update.
Please help how to get it to use newer artwork?
I've tried deleting the contents of the itunes/artwork folder but that didn't help.

    Hi,
This is my British Keyboard layout
This is the same Layout using the ALT (OPTION) key as the Modifier.
This is the asme keyboard using just the Shift key
The layout tends to be referred to a QUERTY layout and is the common part of most Western European based langauges (as far as I am away  and to the places those languages are now found)
From your first post it would appear that you have a AZERTY layout chosen.
    See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AZERTY
From the Map on that page it would appear that you are listing the French option as the main choice.
From the System Preferences > Keyboard > Input Sources
It tends to show Upper case but it seems to fit with your first post.

  • ITunes 10.0.7.21 shows a white box instead of artwork for most of my albums.  Many of these are albums I purchased on itunes.  Also when I hit get album art it deleted the artwork it already had form many albums and says it cant find it.

    OS is Windows 7
I updated iTunes the other day and I decided to run "get album art" and instead of finding artwork, it made some of the artwork I already had show up as white squares, or disapear entirely.  The ones that are white squares show up under the get info, but not in itunes.  I did click in view for show al artwork, no luck.  Many of these albums I bought from iTunes.  The ones that the artwork was deleted some albums I can buy on iTunes, but already owned, and iTunes found the artwork before, but now cannot.  Some are albums that I spent many hours finding and adding the artwork myself.  I am very frustrated.  I cannot find the time to manually install artwork for thousands of songs.
My work computer is Windows 8, so I really don't want to hear windows vs OSX argument.  My company won't switch to mac because you like it better, so I just need a solution to my issue.  iTunes it has always worked better for me on my work PC than my macBook, I dont know why, but I don't take two laptops with me when I travel so I have my iTunes library on the PC that has to come with me.  This is the first time an update has screwed things up for me.

Well my first guess was wrong. The line that failed is the one that writes out the image to disk. I've not revisited the code for that script for ages, but it seems I did add in an extra test for missing files a little while later, then forgot to upload the change. I can reproduce the error message if I deliberately rename a file to confuse iTunes so that seems the most likely reason for your problem with the script. I've uploaded a new build of CreateFolderArt which should work better.
See FindTracks for a tool to repair broken links. You should probably get that issue fixed first.
I know what SPSS stands for but that is all I know about it.

  • Syncing Issues: album art, cut-off songs

I have a 16GB iPod Touch that I've been syncing with my Windows Vista PC, seemingly without complications. It has only recently come to my attention that somewhere between my computer's library and my library on my iPod, something is messing up at random times. Full songs will become half-songs, 30-second songs, on the iPod. They are not damaged on my PC, but when they get uploaded to the iPod, they get messed up. If I re-upload them, sometimes the problem goes away, sometimes it cuts in a different spot. This is immensely frustrating, as I do not know how to fix it or what is causing it to begin with.
More recently I have discovered that all the work I have done organizing my library and getting everything to have album covers is wasted when I try to put these albums on my Touch. The album covers entirely disappear, and I have to copy and paste them in, which takes about five minutes per album (slow write speed?). Seems pretty lame to have a product focused on the ability to flip through albums visually, and then have the album art not automatically download with my music.
    Any help?

I finally have the fix for this issue after a month of extensive debugging, experimentation, etc. on Windows Vista. I've reinstalled my whole **** computer twice, and Apple's phone support is a (bad) joke. They should just send me the script they use so I can read it myself.
First off, let's establish the symptoms of this problem:
    * Data sync'ed to my iPod Touch would corrupt at random points. Sometimes songs would go through intact. Other times they would "glitch" partway through and the device would advance to the next song. Video files of a sufficient size -- like movies and T.V. episodes -- ALWAYS glitch at some point, which crashes the video playback and brings the device back to the video menu.
    * Periodically, the iPod Touch would corrupt completely, which required a total firmware restoration. Rarely, these firmware restorations would also fail.
Now for the solution. It's a two-part deal:
    1) Stop "Windows Search." It's not the major cause of sync problems, but it is a contributor, which is unsurprising given the amount of resources it hogs. Open the "Services" control panel item (Control Panel->System and Maintenance->Administrative Tools->Services, or just type "services.msc" into the "search" box on the Start Menu) and double-click "Windows Search." Click "stop" and set the startup type to "disabled," then click "OK."
    2) This next part is going to be a bitter pill to swallow. When Microsoft launched Vista, it created a new "security feature" called PatchGuard which disallows direct kernel access to third-party applications. Antivirus vendors like McAfee, Symantec, Avast, etc. all have to use a kernel API rather than direct kernel access. However, Microsoft's own antivirus product -- Windows Live OneCare -- has complete access to the kernel without an API.
This appears to have created a weird situation with iTunes. I have reinstalled my system twice, both with 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Vista, and it seems that merely having a third-party antivirus product installed is sufficient to cause this problem. I've tried Avast, McAfee, Symantec and TrendMicro's products. The problem will not go away even if you turn off scanning, put in exceptions, etc. With Avast, I even terminated all of its processes and stopped its services. No dice. Just having a third-party antivirus product installed -- EVEN IF IT IS NOT RUNNING -- will cause this issue.
However, the second you UNINSTALL your third-party antivirus software, the problem goes away -- every time. I've sync'ed movies over and over again to test this, and it's definitely the primary source of the problem.
Obviously, running without antivirus software in this day and age is unacceptable, but there is one product that's free from this problem; in fact, it's the only product that still has direct kernel access. I'm running Windows Live OneCare on a 90-day trial right now, and after running more tests, I've confirmed my hypothesis. Any antivirus product with direct kernel access is fine. The problem is that Windows Live OneCare is the ONLY antivirus product right now with direct kernel access.
If you're running Windows Vista 32-bit, there may possibly be a second antivirus option. My Windows Vista-based gaming laptop uses Computer Associates' AV product, and it's never had a problem syncing with my iPod. I haven't really tested other products on it, though, so your mileage may vary. I can't say for certain that it's a safe bet.
So there you have it: one month of my nights and weekends down the toilet to fix an issue Apple and Microsoft should be handling. I feel like I've paid $500 for the privilege of being an unpaid Apple Q.A. tester. At this point, they should pay ME for the time I've wasted on this issue.

  • I can no longer add album art work in iTunes version 10.6.0.40

WHY can I no longer add album art work in iTunes version 10.6.0.40? It is maddening. I have checked many boards and discussion groups but no one has a sure fix. Why is Apple not tending to this problem? They of all groups should know the importance of how something looks.

I had the the same problem albeit with an m4v (same hardware and OS rev too!, iTunes 10.6.3). I was able to add the movie to a new library per Limnos' suggestion here, indicating that iTunes wasn't totally busted. However, I was also able to see the movie in the Recently Added smart playlist (another hat tip to Limnos), although it still did not appear in the Movies section of my iTunes library. (It was also in the iTunes Library.xml file.)
So I called AppleCare, and they directed me to move the file from the external drive where it was living, into the /Users/<Your Name Here>/Movies directory, and to "Add to Library" (Command-O) from that location. Sure enough (and much to my surprise), it showed up immediately (duplicated, actually) in the Movies section of my iTunes library. Subsequent additions to my Library have not misbehaved similiarly.

  • IOS 7 music app does not display artist pictures and has incorrect album art after master reset.

Strange issue here. I did the update from iOS 6 to iOS 7, after I did the update, I noticed my synced music has just a random photo of the artist / group, that seems to be downloaded from the iTunes sites, because these pictures of the artist/group is not my album artwork.
I did a master reset on my device because I wanted to start from a clean slate, and set it up as a new phone. I went through and adjusted all of my settings and synced my music back on via iTunes, now its not showing these pictures any longer, infact, the strangest issue of them all.. is now when I view artists, the album that I synced now has a complete different album artwork picture that is not related to that album.
I am at a loss, my iTunes is extremely organized, I have everything configured to be 100% accurate for track names, artist, album, and album artwork.
Anyone have any input here? It only screwed up after the reset I did. This has to be a bug or something.

SiMooew469: Thank you!  After countless wasted hours messing with this, your solution was the only one that worked!  After setting up a few phones "as new" I noticed all the artist images would appear (for those that have one) even with my Match turned on.  I could not duplicate it on my restored-from-backup iPhone5S, as I would get a mix of the images and album art, even for those artists that have profile photos on the as-new setups.  I couldn't afford to lose all my text messages, etc. that come with restoring a phone as-new, so I tried about everything else under the sun: I tried logging in-and-out of my Apple ID, toggling Match on-and-off, I even deleted iTunes_control folder using iExplorer on a Windows machine.  Nothing worked.
    Here's what finally did:
If you don't have it set this way already, toggle "Group By Album Artist" in Settings->Music. For some reason that makes a difference for some artists in your library that appear when album artist is set to "Various Artists" or something other than the track's artist.  Logout of your Apple ID.  Log in with any other Apple ID.  Open the Music app and watch all the artist images load in the Artisits tab.  Once it is done, logout of the other Apple ID and login with your regular Apple ID.  Finally, all the artist images will remain.  Those artists that do not have a profile photo with iTunes will still show album art, which is by design.  Hopefully Apple will keep updating that database.
Incidentally, it's a bit odd that those profile photos don't appear in the Artists view in iTunes 11...or am I the only one?

  • Music App Album Art Viewer (in horizontal mode)

    Hi,
I wonder if anyone else in the community think the same about the album art cover mosaic when in horizontal mode but it really suck since they remodeled the app.
When rotating the IPhone in the Music App, we use to be able to flip the albums and at that time, the SORT was by ARTIST. Since Apple remodeled the music app (really don't like to have a mosaic of album covers), the SORT has been converted to ALBUM...
Problem is NOBODY remembers all their album names and nobody I know likes the way it is showing at the moment. All albums by a same artist are mixed up in the mosaic when they logically should be regrouped by artist as it uses to be. It is not convenient at all when I want to hear a song from an artist but don't know the album name or song name... Make the search in horizontal mode totally frustrating and useless.
This change in the music app is not an improvement and all my surrounding thinks the same. Is there an option to sort them differently somewhere? Never found it if so.
If you agree to this, please send feedback to apple so we can have the option to sort
    album cover art by artists.
    Thank you !
Do you prefer this...by album ?
    Rather than this...by artist  ?

  • Songs with the same album art not grouped together in iTunes for Windows

Brand new iTunes user here - do not yet have an iPod! (Needed some music only on iTunes)
When I first started up iTunes, it imported all of my music I already had on my computer. A few of them are soundtracks with different artists.
When they are shown in the iTunes library, the soundtracks have been broken up by Artist instead of staying as a whole album. How do I get the songs back together as one album? I found the folder on my computer where they are stored and combined them there, but they are still separate in the iTunes library.
    Thanks from a total newbie!

Mark the tracks on the album as "Part of a compilation" and fill in the Album Artist field as "Various Artists". Click on the first track of your album to highlight it, hold down the shift key and click on the last track to highlight everything in between. Right click on the selection and choose Get Info. You'll get a message asking if you want to edit multiple items, say yes. If you are using iTunes 8 in the box that opens go to the Options tab and change "part of a compilation" to Yes and choose OK.
Also in your library click on the title bar of album column to bring all the tracks in the same album together. If you keep clicking in the title you can choose it to sort by Album, Album by Artist or Album by Year. Clicking on the little triangle on the right side of the column header changes the sort direction. Pointing up and the column is sorted in Ascending order (A to Z). Pointing down and the column is sorted in Descending order (Z to A).

  • ITunes album art screen saver problem

Hi, recently when I use my iTunes album art work as a screen saver the albums have a purple tint to them. It hasn't always been like that so if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

Just thought I'd let you know that you're not alone. I've tried everything i could think of to fix this problem. The only thing that worked was re-installing the os
and not messing with the settings. But that's not really an option. I only found that out because i got a little delete happy while screwing with my mac.
