Album artwork...2 questions

Hi,
Question 1
i was able to browse album covers flow on itunes when it was first released. I recntly tried to do it and got the 'unable to browse album artwork on this computer' mesage.
I went through the 'how to fix it' on this board, by updating the drivers, geting the latest version of itunes, etc, but still nothing. PLEASE HELP,
Question 2
Can I browse the album cover flow (like a jukebox) of my ipod music on itunes? (my ipod is not insync with my comptuer)
Thank you for you help.
Edsel

i got these songs from my CD and transfered them to my Ipod before putting the album work with the song, the next day when i was free i put all the album art with the songs but when i play my songs the album art doesn't show up but when i open i-tunes it appears. anyway to fix this?
also this might sound stupid:
I have a ipod video- if i delete a song/file from my ipod will the space be restored on my ipod or will it still be considered "used space?"
thanks!

  • Album Artwork Folder Question

    Hello.
I have iTunes set to have all of my music files on an external harddrive. I also use Backup to backup my iTunes settings to my Dot Mac account. I've noticed that I am routinely running out of space on my backup folder and decided to see what was going on. I discovered the "Album Artwork" folder on my local harddrive and realized that it was over 300 MB in size and that this was the problem.
I have searched through the forum and saw that people recommended using Doug's "Embed Artwork" AppleScript. Before I install the script I just wanted to find out if after running it the files in the "Album Artwork" folder will be deleted or if I will have to delete them manually after running the script.
    Thanks.

You can use the script from Doug, but if you're tight on space, that won't help in your situation.
Instead of only one picture for an entire album, a picture will be embedded in every track of that album.
Every track with embedded artwork will increase in size, consuming a lot more space in total than a picture stored in the 'Album Artwork' folder.
Once the picture is embedded in all associated files, iTunes should remove the one in the 'Download' folder, but in my experience doesn't always do that.
You might also take a look inside the 'Album Artwork' folder.
The 'Download' folder contains the artwork downloaded from the 'iTunes Store'.
The 'Local' folder contains the pictures which are used for the 'Cover Flow' feature. These are duplicates of other pictures and stored there for quick access. This folder can be much larger in size than the 'Download' folder. and does not need a backup in my opinion.
If you delete the 'Download' folder, iTunes will create a new one on the next run and store pictures in it again when using 'Cover Flow'.
If you try this, you will notice that it behaves rather sluggish the first time (when you have a lot of embedded artwork), because it has to get all pictures from the music files. iTunes then stores a copy in the 'Local' folder for quick access.

  • Album Artwork message question

I'm in the process of uploading many CDs to iTunes and I selected the "Do not show this message again" button on the Artwork for "Artist - Album" could not be found. I cannot see where to re-enable this. Is this possible?
    Thanks in Advance

A number of these messages that can be turned off cannot be turned on again except by deleting your preference files, I assume this is one of them.
Deleting the preference files takes ALL your preferences back to their default values, so watch out if you have set any special preferences.
You don't say which operating system you are using, but assuming it is windows, the following articles about something else contain instructions for removing the preference files:

  • ITunes and Album Artwork question on Mac with two users

Hey everyone, I have what I hope is a pretty simple question. Right now, on my iMac, I have 2 user accounts, one for me and one for my wife. I wanted us to be able to share all of our music, so when I was setting up the computer, I put the iTunes Music Library in a /User/Shared/Music directory. Then, inside iTunes, for both users, I pointed to this new library. Everything here works great. When I add a song under 1 user, I just have to go to Add to Library under the other user and the songs are added. Works fine.
My main question is about the album artwork. I recently spent a lot of time under my user account going through and making sure I have all of the album artwork for every song we have in our library. I never thought about checking this on my wife's account, but when I did I realized that all of the stuff I added is not there. Anyway, I did some checking and found out that the album artwork is stored in each users Music directory. I did some reading on the web, and what I did was move my album artwork folder to the /Users/Shared/ directory, then created a symbolic link in my user directory to the shared folder. I did the same in my wife's account. I thought this would do the trick but it hasn't changed anything. Can anyone help me out here? Thanks so much for your time.

The artwork is stored in Music/iTunes/Artwork.
iTunes handles everything in that folder when iTunes adds it to the database.
This info is maintained in the iTunes library file in the iTunes folder.
iTunes will not do anything by copying or pointing to the artwork folder in your folder.
Unless you are both using the same iTunes library file, you will need to get your own artwork.
I put the iTunes Music Library
Do you mean the iTunes music folder?
Here's a way to do what you want.
Move your *iTunes folder* to the shared directory.
Open iTunes holding Option and select *Choose existing library*.
Select the iTunes library file in the Shared directory.
    Everything should work fine.
    Quit iTunes.
Move the *iTunes music folder* from /User/Shared/Music directory into the *iTunes folder* you moved into the Shared directory.
    Start iTunes. Everything should work.
    Quit iTunes.
    Log into your wife's account.
Start iTunes holding the Option key, select *Choose existing library* and select the *iTunes library file* in the iTunes folder you moved into the Shared directory.
Everything should be there including all artwork.
Each user needs to quit iTunes before the other user can open it.
Shouldn't be a problem since you are using the same computer.

  • Another "get album artwork" question

    another "get album artwork" question
I notice that when I click "get album artwork" it seems to go through the whole library and look for cover jpegs. (in my case, that's going to take a long time!)
here's my question: it's looking for artwork, yes, but it's NOT going to do anyything to the many, many albums for which I have already (manually) added artwork, is it? If it does - I am in trouble! Please, somebody, reassure me that the artwork I have painstakingly added manually to zillions of albums is safe!

    Updade...
So, as another test, I uninstalled iTunes, then checked the hard drive again.
All the icons have now turned into Quicktime icons, which leads me to believe that when you look at your music in finder, it shows the icons related to your default music player.
So, my next step is to find a new default player, and maybe my album covers will show up again.

  • Album Artwork question - Remote folder

One for the gurus ... I noticed that a new folder had appeared in my iTunes library structure (Album Artwork\Remote).  I'm assuming that this was created as the result of accessing and browsing a shared library (I was helping my daughter fix some issues with her library and connected via network sharing).  Is this assumption correct, and can I therefore ignore/delete this folder with no impact in my own library?

  • Album Artwork on iPod question?

I know that you can import pictures to use as album artwork in iTunes, and I did that for all of the albums that didn't have album artwork pictures. However, when I did that, it would take the songs that I put pictures on there, right off of my iPod. If I took the imported pictures off of iTunes and left if blank, it would put the songs (and blank album artwork) back onto my iPod. Can someone help me?

    Hmm when you import them
do you drag and drop? if so, that may be the problem.
try and save the picture and then import it and see if that works

  • Yet another album artwork question

Hi there everyone. I'm trying to add a few more songs to my 80GB iPod classic. I've taken the time to go through my 200+ albums and either use the "Add album artwork" option or search through Amazon.com for album photos, in the end, all of my songs has an image associated with it. Today I tried adding some mp3s from an album that was originally made of ogg files. After converting the files and adding the songs to iTunes, I noticed that 2 of the songs didn't have album art. I've tried everything, including the suggestion of *rebuilding the artwork cache* at least 3 times, to no avail. Is there anything else I can do? Or do I just have to wait till the next upgrade to iTunes is released and hope things work themselves out?
Thank you in advance for your time.

To clarify, do you mean that in iTunes the artwork is fine, but on the iPod it isn't there?
Have you tried REMOVING the tracks from the iPod then resyncing them back on?
    Regards,
    Patrick

  • Album Artwork - a few questions

I used the "Get Album Artwork" command for many of my albums (mostly ripped in MusicMatch and then imported into iTunes). This often works, adding the artwork to all the tracks with that one search.
When that fails to find the artwork, I try to find the artwork myself (Amazon, or other sites). But, it seems that I need to manually add the art to each track individually. Is there a more efficient way to do the manual add? About how much storage is required for the artwork for each track?
Sometimes, when I look at the Get Info summary screen, instead of the album art or blank box that says "No Artwork Available" there is a dot. Are these corrupt entries? Any way to fix this?
Lastly, after adding album artwork to iTunes, how do I get it over to the iPod. I don't auto-sync because I have far more music than space allows on the 8GB Nano. Would I need to delete the albums from the iPod and then re-transfer the albums from iTunes?

+Highlight all the songs in the album. Right-click, Get Info. Say yes at the prompt, and then the artwork that you add will apply to all of them.+
I get the prompt to browse to where the artwork is stored only when I right-click on a single track. I don't get that option when multiple tracks are selected.
+Before you paste it in, right-click the image and look at Properties. 10kB, 30kB, 70kB would be pretty typical values for those kind of JPEGs. They are small compared to the music file.+
Sorry, I wasn't clear enough. I know how to tell how large the image file is. what I'm asking is if I manually associate the artwork with 10 tracks, does the file take up 10x the amount of space or is it stored only once, with 10 pointers to that single art file.

  • ITunes keeps resetting and asking me if I want to download album artwork!

Hi, it seems as though every time I open iTunes these days the stupid window pops up asking if I want it to automatically download album artwork. I click "No, blah blah blah." And then iTunes opens. At the left is the "Download" option thing (in green under the "Store" section), when I click it, a window pops up saying "Would you like iTunes to check if you have any unfinished downloads?" or something like that. I say, again (and of course) "No."
The "Download" button subsequently goes away and that is all that happens. But it happens repeatedly, every time I open the program! Obviously these settings are not saving--and it seems to be even more of a fundamental problem than that, perhaps some file is corrupted somewhere.
    Any thoughts?

Same here. And it doesn't seem to matter which way
you answer the question, it just keeps asking.
HOWEVER -- I had not seen this post before I restored 6:

  • My album artwork does not match the song in my playlists

After making playlists with music purchased from itunes in my music app, the art work does not match the title of the song / album. How can I fix this problem?

    Hi freezerman84,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing issues with Album Artwork on your iPhone 5. To troubleshoot this issue, it may be best to completely resync your iPhone with iTunes. To do so, uncheck the "Sync Music" checkbox, and apply the changes (so there is ultimately no music syncing to your iPhone).
Once you have done that, recheck the "Sync Music" checkbox, and apply the changes. This will instruct iTunes to completely remove all music from your iPhone, and then copy the files once more. If you have a large amount of music, this initial sync may take a while.
If the above does not resolve your issue, it may be necessary to restore your iPhone:

  • Album artwork.... just can't get it to work right.

    Hello.
I've searched google, I've searched this support community and I've just not been able to come up with an answer.
My album artwork just won't stay put. Some of my albums have artwork and some don't. I've done the "right click" and "get album art work". I've downloaded an app to find art work for the drag and drop method into the "Now Playing" window but it just gets eaten by Itunes (it appears in the window and magically disappears). I've even done the "get info" on multiple tracks and drag and drop into the "artwork"  window of the info pane and while it sticks and stays put nothing happens when I press ok only to reopen the info pane ( "get info" on multiple tracks) and it's as if I've done absolutely nothing. My permissions are fine. My music files are a mixed bunch of MP3 and WAV but this isn't a factor as some MP3's have artwork and some don't, as well as my WAV's.
I've searched in and out, high and low but I've just not come up with anything that gets this in order. The problem isn't getting the artwork it's getting Itunes (10.5.1) to attach it to the albums and display it. My Mac OS X is Lion 10.7.2. Can anyone help?
    Thanking you before hand.

Looks like it does have something to do with WAV format. I got the missing artwork on the MP3's working (by simply dragging and dropping...don't know how that didn't work before) but it's true that the WAV format does not support artwork (as stated several time here in this support community). What threw a brick in all my thinking is that some of my WAV's do have artwork. After some searching though I deduced that the WAV's with artwork showing are albums you can obtain from the itunes store while those that you can't don't show. Even some of the albums that I I copied in WAV that you can obtain from the Itunes store but have minor differences don't show artwork (eg. itunes sells the extended track album while i have the original length album)
I find this rather silly to be honest since there is a work around. I guess the question now is, where is itunes storing the artwork for the WAV files that do show artwork and can I tap into that so it does show for those WAV's missing the artwork?

  • "itunes has stopped working" after downloading album artwork??

For years I've avoided ipod and itunes like the plague...but about 2 weeks ago I gave in. I got an ipod touch and installed itunes. Everything was fine - until this afternoon when I clicked on find album artwork in itunes. After itunes finished going through the process of finding the artwork ( 1400 of 1600 files found, 1450 of 1600 found, etc...or something like that ), i got the error message that *itunes has stopped working*. I've been searching forums all night and tried uninstalling eveything "apple" and reinstalling. Apparently this error comes up for A LOT of people ( problems like this are why I never wanted an ipod... ). None of the recommended fixes are working. I'm assuming something went wrong during artwork downloading????? Or not? I don't really care why actually, but, if itunes crashes every time i hook up my ipod, what good is it ( or the ipod )...and i don't know what to do with the ipod ( how to download apps, or add music, photos and videos ) w/o the itunes. My previous media players were all drag and drop ease.
I'm a newbie - and i'm rally frustrated - so please be kind. Can anyone tell me - in plain terms - how to get my itunes to not "stop working" every time i hook up my ipod?? Please?
    THANKS.

OK, so after looking everywhere for an answer - with no luck - I figured it out on my own ( don't ask me how... ). I'll tell you what I did. I bet you have the same problem. Honestly, I thought I'd be returning the **** thing, but it's fine now.
I'd plug in my ipod ( 32gtouch, like yours ), and itunes would open. Everything was fine until it started to sync my music. Then it would freeze, give me the error message, and then shut down. I did this probably 10 times throughout the day, and always the same. Then I noticed it always froze at the same place during the sync. Soooo, I finally realized I must have a corrupt file.
Step 1: Do as I did, but when it starts to freeze, take note of the name of the song it freezes on. That's probably the culprit .Remember it. Let the error message come up and close as always...
Step 2: Open itunes again! Click on your ipod, and then on the music tab. Immediately un-check "Sync music" ( top of the page ) and then click "apply" ( bottom right ). DO THAT FAST...before it has a chance to sync, or it will just freeze again!
Step 3: Go into your music library on itunes, and DLETE/REMOVE that song.
    Step 4: Close itunes.
Step 5: Open itunes, and go again to your ipod, and click on music tab. This time, check the "sync music" box ( and apply ).
That should fix it. If it doesn't you have more than one corrupt file. In that case, close itunes and then open it again. Follow step 1 and 2 again. Remove any songs from your library that aren't that important to you ( especially those that were from questionable sources... ). Basically, you need to figure out which song ( or songs ) are causing the problem. If you just delete them all, you'd have to add them again one at a time to avoid the problem again, and that would be a pain. So, just remove as many as you feel like ( out of 1500 songs or so, I removed a couple hundred ). I left mainly the ones that were from my actual CDs or that I had bought through Amazon ( or other legit source ). I removed most of my Limewire downloads. Most of them are probably fine, but I'll add them later one at a time to be sure...
I still have plenty of Limewire songs on there, and they are fine, but, as you know, you do get bad files sometimes.
Anyways, once I did this, everything is fine and works great. I even started adding album art manually, and at one point it froze again. So, I did steps 1 and 2 again, and removed the album art I last added, and then synced again, and it was fine. Usually, the album art I add is OK, but I had that one pesky photo I guess ). So, I guess the thing is after you get the majority of your music on, just add and adjust things a little at a time, and you'll always know which file is causing you problems ( hopefully no files will!! ).
I hope this works for you. Let me know if you have any questions, and let me know if it solves your issue too!
    Peace.

  • Album artwork in iTunes 10.5 and IOS5 is not shown properly

    Hi guys,
My question concerns iTunes 10.5's artwork. Here's the thing, I recently upgraded to iTunes 10.5 on my PC (not MAC…) and IOS5 on my iPhone 4. Everything worked fine in the previous versions of the two (iTunes and IOS4.3.5) but now some of the artwork simply isn't there when it used to be and one more strange thing is that if before the artwork was assigned to ALL the songs of an album, now I get the album artwork in the panoramic view but the it vanishes when I click on a song. Instead, I get the note symbol.
I discovered that you need to assign the artwork to EVERY song in the album which seems to me very troublesome. Furthermore, I think the album artwork is embedded in the file itself which, I think, makes the files a bit heavy on the iPhone causing degradation in performance when viewing the albums in panoramic view. Is it me or the panoramic view is not working as smooth as it did on IOS4?
    My questions are threefold:
    1. is there a way not to assign the artwork to every file but once to the album itself?
    2. is there a way to undo what I already done, meaning un-assign the artwork from all the files and let iTunes build its artwork library again?
    3. how come when I rip an original CD, iTunes doesn't find its artwork?

Well all I can say is that after the 10.6 update, I too lost my Get and Subscribe buttons once again. I downloaded and ran the install procedure and used the Repair option within it and that solved the issue. I only had to run it once though.
If you've done this twice without the problem being fixed, I don't know what else to suggest.
    Sorry.

  • Album Artwork not Showing for iTunes Backup

A friend of mine has contacted me with a question that I've ran out of ideas to try.  He has an iTunes library where the media files are located on an external disk (formatted HFS+) and he is using a second external drive -- also HFS+ -- for backup (he is currently just copying the files -- I've told him about time machine, but that's a different topic).    When he looks at the music files in finder, he sees the album artwork.  However, the same is not true on the backup drive.
If I understand the iTunes file layout correctly. Artwork is stored in the same folder as the database files and the media files (music in this case) reference the artwork path.  I'm a little confused on why that reference wouldn't work on the backup drive, but it does on the media drive (assuming they are both plugged into the computer where the database/artwork is stored).
    Any ideas?  Thanks in advance!

The covers should show, as soons your short albums will contain more tracks. When your "Summer Sessions EP" has at least five tracks, the cover should be displayed as well, like for your "Conception" album, for there will be enough space for it.
    Regards
    Léonie
