Album Artwork Bug

Ever since I have upgraded to OS 10.6.2 I can't add artwork to an album by dragging and dropping it into iTunes. I have done it this way for years and now it won't let me do it. Am I the only one having this problem?

no, various users have reported this. looks like this options has been discontinued in iTunes 9
you can still add artwork by going these routes:
A) single item
+get info+ on the item, click on the artwork tab, click on add, navigate to the image on e.g. on your desktop
B) multiple items
+get info+ on the files, +right click+ on the image in e.g. Safari and choose copy, paste (cmd-v) the image into the artwork box

  • IOS 5 bug - album artwork takes huge amounts of space

I've upgraded both my iPhone 4 and my iPad 1 to iOS 5.
Under iOS 4, the "Other" data reported by iTunes on these devices wasn't significant.
Under iOS 5, both report over 1.5GB for "Other". By browsing around the phone with iExplorer, it seems that most of this is an enormous album art database file called MediaLibrary-artwork.data in the iTunes_Control\iTunes folder - this alone is over 1.5GB. There are no more than 200 albums on either device, all of which have artwork downloaded from the Apple Store rather than embedded in the files - say 200 x 250kb JPEGs; 50MB in total.
Why is this file so huge under iOS 5? It wasn't under iOS 4 - it's wasting 5% of the space on my 32GB iPhone!
I've tried removing music and movies, deleting the iTunes_Control folder and resyncing - all this does is to shrink the file down from 1.5GB to 875MB - still orders of magnitude bigger than it needs to be.
    Something is broken here, Apple...

I cannot really see this on my iPhone but this could be an explanation for many users seeing coverflow being sluggish (too much RAM taken up by the huge album artwork).

  • I just downloaded the new version of iTunes, but I haven't been able to put new album artwork on my albums. Every time I try, the picture I put doesn't show up. Please help!

Usually, when I put album artwork, I go to get info for the whole album and copy and paste an image I get off the Internet. But every time I do this, all that shows up is the color black! I have no idea what to do. Please help.

It's a bug with iTunes 10.4.0.80. If you copy and paste from some web browsers or an image editor then iTunes pastes in a transparent image of the same dimensions. This shows up black in the artwork panel at the bottom left or white in the get info art viewer.
If you work with an image file stored on your computer you will get better results. Use the artwork box on the Info tab of the Get Info. dialog for multiple tracks to replace all existing images. With a single track you will need to delete the existing corrupt images from the Artwork tab first.

  • How can I edit/change/update/remove album artwork for a song in iCloud?

    Dear Community,
    my problem is the following.
I'm editing my songs/albums artworks and when I change these artworks, iTunes Match syncs my artworks back to the original ones.
I've tried a lot of things, read a lot of discussions but I didn't find a solution for this problem.
    For example:
I've deleted for an album all of my songs artworks, then set the good one. Then I've done an update for iTunes Match in Store menu. My artworks didn't changed on an Apple TV2
If I just delete the artworks, do an iTunes Match upgrade, the artworks on an iPhone 4S & Apple TV2 remains the same (I've also removed the songs from my iPhone and redownloaded them...)
I used TuneUp iTunes plugin for song identifying. It did a very good job, changed my artworks, my metadata, everything looked good. After a few minutes iTunes Match synced, the artworks restored to the old ones, but the metadata info didn't changed, it is updated in iCloud too.
I'm also tried to get artworks from iTunes, it worked very well for some albums, but again: iTunes Match synced...
I've turned off iTunes Match, done the album editing. Again when I've turned on iTunes Match, the album artworks restored..
In my opinion if I use a cloud service, anything I do locally in my iTunes library, it should sync up to the cloud. EVERYTHING means music, music metadata, music artwork etc.
    So what is the solution?
What can be the reason all of this?
    Someone has the same issue?
    Is it a bug?
    One more thing
In this album all of my songs has the same artwork (David Guetta: One Love)
Look at the BRAVO hits cover

Try this, it has worked for me.
    1. Make a new, empty iTune library by launching iTunes while holding down the Option key.
    2. Choose create new library; do NOT have iTunes scan for music.
    3. Enable iTunes Match on the empty library.
    4. Find the tracks with the wrong artwork, highlight them, Get Info and paste the correct artwork into the "artwork" field.
    5. When finished update iTunes Match, then re-launch iTunes while holding down the Option key and chose select library to get back to the "master" library.

  • How can I remove "Album Artwork" from my iPhone and iPad?

I've posted about this before in other threads, but the silence from Apple has been deafening,  Others in the community have agreed with the request but haven't been able to answer it.
I thought a thread of its own might get attention, since Apple won't talk to me otherwise.
I use music on my iPhone and iPad a lot, playing through speakers in my study or through the car system.  It worked well at first, until I updated the operating systems.
Now, where I used to have a list of albums, music, or playlists I have large blank areas where album artwork would go if there were any - which in most cases there isn't.  The iPad used to display 50 or more playlists in one screen, with some details of them.  Now, it shows 15 blank squares with a crotchet on them, and the name of the playlist.  That really isn't much use.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can there be a way to turn OFF album artwork on the iPhone and iPad?   It wastes an enormous amount of screen space for stuff I don't have and don't want.   It's a very unwelcome new "feature" (ie "bug").

Apple does not participate in these forums, so that would explain why you have not received a response.
I am not aware of a way to turn off Album art on the devices. If you want to let Apple know of your desire for this setting, go to www.apple.com/feedback and click on the appropriate link. That is where you communicate with them. They will receive the feedback, however they do not respond to it.

  • Album artwork not showing on iPod touch 5th gen

    Hey guys,
I really need help on this. The issue has been bugging me the last several weeks and it is driving me nuts.
After I updated my iPod touch to 6.1.3 as well as itunes on my windows to ver.11.0.2.26 (or the one before),
I could no longer add album art to any of the new songs I add to my iPod.
The weird thing is that album arts are there in itunes under get info ---> artwork,
but they just never show on the actual screen of iPod touch no matter what I do. I tried to hit the sync button,
remove/add the songs back to itunes again, even restored the iPod touch but didn't do a thing. Now all the previous songs' artworks are gone.
I like to organize all songs manually so are all the artworks. I google the image and copy/paste to each song by going under get info ---> artwork
Tried to get album artworks using the itunes feature but since some of the songs I have are foreign songs, so it wouldn't work either.
I also don't use library to organize my music since I have some duplicates and they just look really messy in library.
I simply just drag and drop music on the iPod itself.
Is anybody out there having the same issue? I called Apple and they had no clue to why.
It worked perfectly fine until the last update. Now I am really regretting the update. All the songs are now showing nothing but music
note on the screen with title and artist name.
    Help will be appreciated!

Glad to know I wasn't the only one with this issue.
As an update to my issue, the album artwork all the sudden reappeared on my iPod yeasterday.
Still don't know the actual cause or what actually got itself fixed but here's how I did:
    - Back up your iPod first. Since I didn't have much to lose on my iPod, for those who have alot of stuff on there should promptly do so just in case.
    - Go to this link: http://www.doctorchewy.com/album-artwork-woes/
      and follow the procedures.
    - Some people might get the album artwork back working properly again by the end of the procedure above, but it still didn't work for me so I suspected it was itunes so I uninstalled the itunes from my PC and reinstalled.
    - It still didn't want to show album artwork after reinstallation so instead of synching it to the PC, I used my Macbook (OSX 10.6.8) and downloaded the older version itunes (10.7) through here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1576
    - It still didn't show after days followed but while I almost bang my head against the screen, I figured
    that go to get info------> artwork, click add, select the image file, click ok, and if it still wouldn't show;
click on the image and delete the image. Repeat the previous step once again, and it should start synching to your iPod after hitting ok. If it doesn't sync automatically, hit sync and voila. The album artwork should once again, show on your iPod like before.
Again, the process is somewhat hectic but hey, it works now. I'm still hesitant to sync with the newest itunes though. I don't know how my iPod was able to sync with a PC and my Macbook but I was able to manage and keep all the stuff, minus the music, before the problem occured. Let me know how you guys did.

  • ITunes can't find apps on iPod Touch and doesn't sync album artwork

    Ugh.  Here I go again.
I have an iPod Touch (4th gen), 2010 MacBook Pro, all the latest operating systems and updates.
My iPod Touch crashed a bit and so I wanted to sync it again (using the USB cable, not wirelessly).
    (1) Suddenly, there was no music on the iPod Touch.  I managed to get that fixed.
    (2) After a couple of syncs, I was repeatedly getting the message that the iPod Touch apps "could not be synced because the apps could not be determined."  A couple of plugging and unpluggings allowed iTunes to "find" the apps, but this is weird.
    (3) And now, what's bugging me -- and this happened a year or so ago -- very little of the album artwork synced over to the iPod Touch.  I have 600-800 albums.  All of the artwork is correct on iTunes.  About 10% of the artwork transferred over to the iPod Touch.  (Then I synced my iPad, and all the artwork is correct on the iPad.)
If I remember correctly from last year, eventually -- after many successive syncs -- the album artwork made its way correctly over to the iPod Touch, and maybe I'll hope for that this time.
Does anyone have a more direct solution?  Checking and unchecking some boxes on some syncs?  (It takes a good chunk of time to sync over my music, so I don't really have to time to delete and sync repeatedly just as shots in the dark.
Any ideas?  All thoughts welcome. Thank you!

Taking off all the music and then putting it back on took care of the album art, but I'm still getting all kinds of funky behavior -- iTunes can't find the apps, then it can't find the iPod altogether, and it's adding duplicate songs somewhere.  It said it was going to load 3,232 songs, but I ended up with more than 3,400.  Weird.

  • Get Info does not allow me to manually add album artwork

    Hello,
I am trying to manually upload album artwork on iTunes with my Windows PC (Windows 8.1 64 bit).  I followed all of the steps for doing this as outlined here in the Help section.  I did a Google search, found the album artwork in JPEG format on the internet, and then saved it to a folder on my hard drive. I then went back into iTunes, right clicked on the album that is missing its artwork, and clicked the "Get info" button.  When the next screen opens I select the "Artwork" tab, and then I select the "Add Artwork button."  This opens up a browser for my file directory, and then I went to the folder where I  saved the album artwork and double clicked on the particular JPEG I wanted to add for the CD.  The JPEG was immediately loaded onto the screen, and everything looked good to go. However, when I hit the "OK" button to select this uploaded album artwork which is loaded on the screen, for whatever reason iTunes does not save it, and the album artwork icon for the CD remains blank. Let me know where I am going wrong, or if this is a bug that needs to be addressed.
Also, I have a program called Music Collectorz that I am using to catalog all of my CDs as I burn my collection to iTunes.  For those CDs in which the Collectorz program cannot automatically find or identify the appropriate album artwork on its own, I can open up the Collectorz program's own version of "Get Info" and select "Find Cover Art."  By doing this, the Collectorz program automatically does a search on the internet--without me having to leave the Collectorz program--and retrieves several "hits" it located for the missing artworkwhich it displays on another window within the program. I then simply double click with the mouse on the photo of the artwork file I want to upload to associate with the particular CD, and it is automatically uploaded and associated with the CD. Also, the Collectorz program will only allow you to upload artwork that is saved in file formats and sizes that are supported by the program like JPEG files.
It seems to me that Apple should have an easy way like this to manually add album artwork in iTunes. I should not have to do a separate Google search outside of the iTunes program, then save a JPEG to my hard-drive in another folder, and then go back into iTunes to add (or try to add) it to a CD's profile.  This is a waste of time, and involves several unnecessary steps.  This process should all be incorporated through the iTunes program as a one-stop shop method.  I should never have to leave the iTunes program to add any artwork ever.
I look forward to your response on this.
    Thanks,

I assume that there are legal restrictions on the way in which iTunes can get artwork automatically from any source apart from the iTunes Store (which is what the right-click > Get Album Artwork function uses).  For example, even though the Gracenote service that iTunes uses to match CDs and retrieve metadata (artist, album, track titles, etc.) also has artwork functions, iTunes does not make use of these.
For manual addition of artwork, there are three cases where the image you select may not be correctly embedded in your media files:
your media are in a format that doesn't accommodate embedded artwork - typically WAV files.  To embed artwork you'll need to convert to another format - Apple Lossless or AIFF if you want to preserve lossless quality, AAC or MP3 otherwise.
your media files are read only - to fix this, use Windows Explorer to find the folder that contains your files, right-click and select Properties.  On the General tab there's a check box labeled "Read-only" - if this is checked, or is grey (sometimes blue), click the box so that the flag is unchecked and the box is white.  Click OK, and then OK again when the "Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files" option selected.  Now try adding the artwork again.
Windows permissions issues are preventing iTunes from updating your media files (there's some anecdotal evidence of a change in this behavior in iTunes 12).  See turingtest2's notes on Repair security permissions for iTunes for Windows for advice on fixing this, then try adding the artwork again.

  • Unable to add album artwork to iTunes

Try as I might, I'm unable to add album artwork to an album that I have in iTunes.
I've bought up the Info dialog for the album by either command + I or from the context menu to get the info for the entire album - and then I've tried dragging the album artwork as a JPEG, PNG and a re-saved JPEG to the album well or copying it in Finder and pasting it onto the well - and I've also got the open file dialog to appear by double-clicking on the well and picked it that way ... And nothing, I just can't get the artwork to appear.
Is there something that I'm not doing or is this a bug? It's very frustrating.

I have the same problem -- it used to be so simple with the previous version of iTunes.

  • Missing Album Artworks in Album view in Music iOS

Apple updated Music App in iOS 6.
New interface Design but a new bug appear some album artworks are missing when we go in the Album list view.
But when you select an album, the artworks appear well and also appear in Cover Flow.
The album artworks are missing in Album list view only.
The problem seems to come from the option : Convert higher bite rate songs to xxx kbps AAC in iTunes
I just tried with the bit rate 192 kbps : some album artworks are missing in the Album view list
So if you want, you can test with the other bit rate and post if you have the some problem.
I uncheked the option Convert higher bite rate songs to xxx kbps AAC in iTunes, I resent my music to my iOS device.
Now all album artworks appear well in the Album list view.
In hoping this can help anyone.

    Hey,
You should definitely submit this bug as feedback to the iTunes team.

  • How do i copy album artwork to all the songs in an album

How do i copy album artwork to all the songs in an album as some of the songs do not have the artwork, as with the previous version of itunes you had to load artwork individually.
I have tried the copy and paste option and that does not work
Look forward to hearing from you

"How do i copy album artwork to all the songs in an album as some of the songs do not have the artwork, as with the previous version of itunes you had to load artwork individually."
That suggests some underlying issue, as iTunes has always (AFAIR) allowed artwork to be assigned with multiple tracks in a single action.  For an album, right-click on the album, select Get Info, select the Artwork tab.  You then have three options:
If the artwork image exists as a file, click the Get Artwork button, browse to and select the file, then click Open.
Drag and drop the image file from Windows Explorer to the Artwork tab (previous releases also allowed drag and drop from a web browser, this functionality is missing - either by design or as the result of a bug - in iTunes 12).
If you've copied the artwork image to the clipboard, press Ctrl-V on the keyboard to paste in the image (prior to the 1st release of iTunes 12 this could also be done using right-click > Paste - hopefully this will be restored as a bug-fix in the next update)
"I have tried the copy and paste option and that does not work."
There are three possible causes for this:
The format of your media files doesn't support embedded artwork - specifically, uncompressed audio in WAV format.  You'll need to convert to Apple Lossless (without loss of quality) or either MP3 or AAC (if you're OK with lossy media) before artwork images can be associated with your media.
Windows' permissions are preventing your media files from being updated when iTunes attempts to embed the images (in a perfect world iTunes should report this as an error, but it actually does nothing).  To check this, find the folder that contains media of interest in Windows Explorer (by default this will be C:\Users\user_name\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music\artist_name\album_name), right-click and select Properties, Security tab - check that your Windows user account has full control over the folder.
The media files that you're trying to add artwork to may be set to read-only in Windows. Select the folder as before in Windows Explorer, right-click > Properties and make sure that the Read-only flag is cleared.

  • Why can't I copy and paste album artwork with the new iTunes?

I updated to the new 10.5.1.(42) iTunes.  Now I can't add album artwork like I always have.  I open the artwork window in the lower left corner to access artwork.  I used to be able to right click/copy and right click/paste.  Now I can't.  This is a backwards step.  I'm getting fed up with Apple making changes for the worse.
I can add artwork with many more steps but the method I mentioned above is(was) the quickest and easiest.
Quit making changes just to make a change, Apple!
And, yes, I submotted feedback to Apple through the link in iTunes.
    Tracy

I went through updates on my three newest Macs this week.  As I stated I'm talking about iTunes 10.5.1 (42).  I am checking for updates now and I see 10.5.2 is now available.  I'll know in about 15 minutes if this issue is fixed or not.
    15 minutes later:
I must have updated this PPC G5 a day or two before iTunes 10.5.2 came out.  I was able to update to 10.5.2 (11) and this copy/paste bug is fixed.  I'm happy again.

  • Syncing music freezes iPhone and erases album artwork

This is ridiculous, I just bought the iPhone 6 and updated iTunes to the latest version (I'm on Windows 7). I try to sync new music and iTunes refuses to do so. Instead, it deletes all of my album artwork and just freezes while trying to sync. I added 3 songs to the library, but it says it's syncing 1 of 7 and just doesn't do anything at the first song (not the song I added, old song). Anyone know what is going on?

iTunes 12.1 is very unstable, as is iOS 8. There are just bugs with music management and syncing, simple as that. I have run into a number of issues, especially since 12.1. Music doesn't sync over at all, the device's library gets corrupted, album art disappears, etc.
A quick glance around these forums shows that a large number of people are having the same problems. iTunes and iOS are just extremely buggy, and our only recourse is to wait for software fixes.

  • My album artwork doesnt Match the song.

The Album Artwork on my phone got all screwed up so now it will show a different artisits album artwork when im playing a song and was just wondering if there is a way to make it match again, all the artwork matches on my computer.

Since updating my iPhone 5 to iOS 7.1 I have the same problem. I wonder if and when Apple is going to fix this annoying bug.

  • Album artwork does not share?

I have a MacMini hooked up to my living room television. Front row will not share album artwork from my iMac. The music can be shared, but without the album artwork. What is the fix?

It used to work with Mac OS X 10.4.x and Front Row. However, for some reason, it's not working if you update to Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard). It's not clear if this is a bug that's going to be fixed or not. I would suggest you send Apple some Mac OS X feedback so they know you'd like to see this feature again.
