Album artwork - itunes cannot find some album covers?

iTunes says that it cannot find album covers for some albums, some examples being - "ok computer" (radiohead). any ideas why this happens, and how i can resolve would be appreciated !
thanks.

iTunes will only download artwork for albums that are on sale in the iTunes Store. I don't believe OK Computer is available through iTunes. if you can't find the album covers you want from iTunes you can get them from various other sources. I find this site is a good source of artwork: CD/Album Cover Art Search from SlothRadio.
Another place for finding suitable artwork is to go to Amazon. You can also locate artwork using Google image search and put the artist or album name. Locate the album from any of those sources, right click on the image and save it to the desktop, once it's there drag it to the iTunes artwork pane. Once you've added the artwork you can either delete the original file or keep it in a folder somewhere in case you need to use it again. Alternatively there are programs like these that help locate artwork: iTunes Art Importer or MP3 Tag
If you have a scanner you can create your own artwork files by scanning the CD cover itself, this is particularly useful when you are dealing with rare recordings. You'll get information on adding artwork manually and automatically at this link: iTunes 7 for Windows - Adding artwork to songs and other items

  • ITunes cannot find album artworks

Hello, I imported some purchased Cd's I have at home to iTunes and the album artwork does not appear. I tried all the ways to make iTunes get the artwork as the iTunes help says and still, "artwork could not be found". Is there a way I can make iTunes to automatically download the album artwork??
    thank you

Do you know I have the same problem.
I go to HMV with my daughter and spend time browsing music together. We come home and inport our music. It always finds the track and album names but cannot find the Artwork. This does not seem to apply to odd or old stuff, even chart CDs.
To add insult to injury if you type the album name into Itunes it is there, with the artwork.
Another reason why I HATE Itunes......

I bought an album in the I Store and it shows there as a Purchased item.  However, I cannot find the album in my iTunes and do not know how to redownload it.  What should I do?

If you are in a country where music can be redownloaded then it should show in the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage - that it where you can redownload items (as long as they remain in the store).

  • Several times I've downloaded albums from iTunes to find that some of the tracks did not get fully downloaded so that the track with skip to the next one. Can someone tell me why this is happening and how I can fix it?

Several times I've downloaded an album from iTunes to find that not all of the tracks were fully downloaded so that some of the tracks will skip to the next one (instead of finishing the song). Can anyone tell me why this happens and how I can fix it?

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the tracks and try redownloading fresh copies.
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.
(Not entirely sure what happens after you click that link, but fingers crossed it should be relatively straightforward.)

  • Album artwork not appearing on all album tracks

    Hi,
I have a problem with my iPod 5th Gen 60GB. Not all the songs have cover art, although the cover art is visible in all songs in iTunes. The pattern seems to be that the first couple of tracks of an album show cover art when played/selected, but the remaining tracks have missing cover art.
Some background info. The problem started after I upgraded from Tiger (OS X 10.4) to Leopard (OS X 10.5). I didn't do an actual upgrade, but a clean install. After Leopard was installed I restored my iTunes Library and everything looked and worked fine. After I synced my iPod I soon discovered the problem of the missing artwork.
Based on suggestions on this forum I have tried several things to try and remedy the problem, but have not been succesful yet. Things I have tried:
    1. Unchecked the option in iTunes for including cover art on your iPod. Synced. Rechecked the option and synced again.
    2. Performed a factory reset of my iPod. Synced so that my complete library was placed on my iPod again.
    3. Deleted the Album Artwork cache directory.
    4. Configured iTunes so that the currently selected song's cover art was displayed in the little preview window at bottom left. Cycled through all the songs in my library, hoping this would do some black magic voodoo stuff with my library or cache.
The only thing I haven't done yet is to completely delete my current library and create a new one and import all the songs again. Needless to say, this is my last resort, because it's going to take a lot of time (my library location is actually on a Samba share) and it means I will lose all my song ratings.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks in advance.
    Edit: I'm using iTunes 8.1.1

Note: You do not need to buy a song from the iTunes Store to use the online downloadable artwork for that song. You probably know that, but just in case...
If you have manually added artwork to songs, I believe it overrides any downloaded artwork. So as a test, you should select an album (one where the artwork does not appear on the iPod). Select the songs, right click, and +Get Album Artwork+. First, see if your manually added artwork still appears in iTunes. If you get the downloaded artwork showing up instead in iTunes, you can just give the +Clear Downloaded Artwork+ command; your embedded artwork is still there and should show up. I remember trying this to see what happens, and the manually added art had priority in iTunes (but that was a while ago).
If iTunes still uses your manually added artwork, try syncing to the iPod now. See if the downloaded artwork appears. If it does, at least you have album art. iTunes converts album art into a database format that is optimize in size and resolution, to take up the least amount of space possible on the iPod. Maybe there is something about the artwork, for the ones currently missing on the iPod, that prevents the conversion for some reason (too high resolution?). In that case, redoing everything probably will not help, if you are using the same artwork images.
Another thing you can try is to pick a song that does not have artwork on the iPod (but should). In iTunes, right click on the song. Select +Get Info+. In the Info window, go to the Artwork tab. Click on the artwork image and Delete to remove the artwork. iTunes should no longer show artwork for that song.
    Sync the iPod.
Do a +Get Info+ on that song again, and go to the Artwork tab. Drag the artwork image you want to use as the album artwork from a Finder window, or from a web browser window, and drop it onto the artwork area in that iTunes song Info window to add it.
Sync the iPod again. See if this re-added artwork now appears on the iPod.
If that works, you can manually delete and re-add the artwork for the songs that do not have artwork on the iPod. Unfortunately, you cannot do the delete part for multiple songs at the same time (as far as I know). You must sync the iPod when there is no artwork in iTunes for the songs in question; you can do several songs before syncing. And you can re-add (at the same time) for a set of songs that have the same artwork, by dragging the artwork to the bottom right corner display on the iTunes window (instead of the the +Get Info+ window for a single song).

  • ITunes cannot find songs in library

For some reason, my iTunes cannot find songs in my iTunes library that are there. It says the file cannot be located, and I have to go one by one and individually find the files for iTunes. I checked in my preferences and I made sure that it is actually looking in the folder where all my songs are. Any idea why this happened? Is there any way to find all of the songs at once instead of doing them individually? (I have about 800 songs, so that could take a while).

One way you might be able to speed things up ( re-add to itunes) is to find songs where Itunes does know about from the same Artist and then right click on song and select reveal in explorer. This will give you the path to folder of similar songs. You then go to folder and select the songs you want re-added to itunes. While it plays it gets re-added. YOu can play a few seconds of the song and then go to next one that needs to be added.

  • Renameing files - iTunes cannot find files?

I recently got a new computer and forgot to send all of the music on my old one to this one - so i imported them from my iPod. When it imported them, it gave them file names such as "APKF" and "NXVX", so if i delete and file and then want it back - i have to go through all of the files until i find the one i'm looking for. A simple solution to this would be to rename the files with their correct artist name and song,... but when i do this iTunes cannot find the files when i go to play the songs ... it also does this if i simply just move a song from one folder to another ... help?
    Thank you!!!

I'm gonna keep them as their original four letter name and then just create a key in Notepad were it links the artist to the song by that four letter name. And them inport them one by one and enter their keys into a notepad...
It'll take a long time, but after i do it this one time i can just add and delete songs from the notepad.
    like this:
    Cage the Elephant:
    Back Against the Wall: WTHK
Ain't no rest for the wicked: TYRE
thank you soooo much for your help, but i'm a neat freak so i'm gonna do this. you don't know of somekind of software were you can save some kind of data? like a non-trial version of Windows Office Excel?

  • FYI: How to Fix "iTunes Cannot Find Original File" Error

Yesterday morning, I opened iTunes and tried to play a file. I got the old "iTunes cannot find the original file" error. I tried another file. Same thing. I tried restarting iTunes, holding down the shift key, and making sure iTunes knew where my Library file was. Yep. Still no dice. So I came here, and did a search for help. I could not find any definitive answers to this question. So I did a Google search and found the fix in an old Metafilter thread. Given that this problem seems a little common, I thought I'd post my solution here, for anyone who has this issue in the future.
First things first, make sure that it's not just an issue of pointing iTunes to your current library location. Go to your advanced preferences and double-check the library location path. If this doesn't fix it, then it's time to go my route:
    1) Open your iTunes folder in windows explorer. Look for a file called "itunes library.xml". Copy that file to your desktop or somewhere else so that it's backed up...in case something goes wrong.
    2) Open the original XML file in notepad (right-click, "open with", "notepad").
    3) In this XML file, you will see a paragraph of information for every file you have (songs, podcasts, videos, etc.). In each of those paragraphs, there is a file path specifying where the file is supposed to reside. This is how the itunes library.itl file knows where to look. In my case, it should have been "e:/my music/itunes", but instead, it was "e:/my music/itunes/itunes music". The program had created that folder for some reason, and all my files were pointing there.
    4) Check a few of the paragraphs and see if they are pointing to your actual music folder. If so, then you have another problem...sorry. If not, then continue on:
    5) Go to edit->replace (or control-H). In the "find what" box, enter the incorrect file path (in my case, e:/my music/itunes/itunes music"). In the "replace with" box, enter the correct path of your itunes music folder (in my case, "e:/my music/itunes". Then click "replace all".
If you have a lot of songs, this may take awhile. I have over 25,000 files, so it took at least 18 hours.
    6) When it's done, quit notepad and save the XML file. Open iTunes. If it doesn't automatically start updating your library, then try to play a song. If you get the same old error, then quite iTunes, then re-open it, go to the advanced preferences and select the correct file path for the library location. This should fix it.

I am also finding many "ghost file" duplicate files (with the exclamation point "can not locate files" message), after pointing Itunes version 8.2.1.6 to my music folder on a separate, networked hard drive. My understanding is that the "Consolidate Files" feature in Itunes is supposed to properly identify all of the file locations, but it only worked for about 1/5 of our 10,000 plus files before it stopped running. (I've read in other forums that this software is buggy, and gets confused with long song titles, etc.)It also leaves you with duplicate "ghost" files to delete, when the music from the separate drive is "added".
I can not find a file called ituneslibrary.xml to try your suggestion, when I open my Itunes folder. When I do "get info" on the individual music files in Itunes that can't be located, the "where" field = "not available". I have doublechecked the library location in preferences and it is properly pointed to "K:\itunes" which is the correct location.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
