Album artwork showing up as separate files.

I'm transfering my music files to my MacBook Air, and as I browse through them in Finder while on my external hard drive, the album artwork that's on the .mp3 file, is also showing up as a separate .jpeg file. If I have a folder of songs, and in total their are say two different pieces of album artwork between all the songs; I will have two .jpeg files of these album artworks included in the folder. This doesn't happen on other Macs, or my Windows PC (where they're coming from); on these computers I just have the .mp3 files as I should, but only on this one Mac, does it also show separate .jpeg files of the artwork. They're not hidden files or have any special settings on them. I've already done what I can, and ran this by fellow IT co-workers of mine, whom also can't find a solution to this.

Did you work through and eliminate all the possible problems that I've listed? Are these mp3 files? Another issue which I've yet to include in that post is multiple tags. It seems that iTunes may sometimes display & edit say an ID3V2.x tag while still sorting on the basis of values in an extra ID3V1.x tag embedded in the file. Ideally your files should have a single ID3V2.3 tag. Redundant tags may be removed with a third party editor or by using the iTunes context menu command *Convert > ID3 Tag > None* a few times (at least I think it needs to be run multiple times to clean multiple tags) followed by *Convert > ID3 Tag > V2.3*.

That happened to me too. The only way I could "fix" it was to restore my ipod, I've only just got mine a couple of days and I only had to re-load 3.5gb of mp3s but it was all I could think of.
I have noticed that when you right click on a song in itunes and select the "get info" box to paste lyrics and artwork, when you click the next or previous buttons and then go back to the original location the lyrics or artwork entered is sometimes missing, it's like it just doesn't write the information to the file, you have to paste, hit next and previous a few times to swap between tracks to make sure the information is retained.

I downloaded the new software, and when it was complete none of my album artwork showed up. It shows up on itunes but not on the ipod.

No, when i went on album is still didnt show...the artwork is ther perfect size.
i did re-sync...and nothin happened.
i went on the itunes on my ipod and re-downloaded it and nothin appeared.

It sounds like the iPod isn't restoring correctly. Try putting the it into Disk Mode manually and then restoring the iPod again as described in the article linked below.

Before placing the iPod into Disk Mode, verify that it has a charge.
Reset the device by pressing the Sleep and Home buttons simultaneously until the display shows the Apple logo. This should take about eight seconds.
When the Apple logo appears, press and hold the Volume Down and Volume Up buttons simultaneously until the device enters Disk Mode.

Album Artwork Showing in iTunes buy not on Apple TV

I noticed that some of the Album artwork that shows in iTunes is not showing up when I go to that album in Apple TV. Am I missing something? Thanks.

Have you tried the following:
1. Open itunes and select a troublesome tune/movie.
2. Choose file/show in Finder and note the location of the original file.
3. Delete the tune/movie from your itunes list (not in the finder) choose 'remove' and 'keep files' when prompted
4. Drag the original file from the Finder back to itunes.
Does this help.

When testing podcast subscriptions, should the album artwork show up?

I am trying to setup a podcast and, per the podcast guide, I am testing the subscription before submitting to the iTunes store. All of the episodes are showing and work fine, the only problem is that the album artwork is not appearing.
Does the artwork only appear once it's submitted to the store, or should it be working when I subscribe to it through Advanced --> Subscribe to Podcast ?

The artwork which is referenced in the 'itunes:image' tag in the feed (the 'Podcast image') only appears on the Store page. It does not appear when subscribing.
You can get images for each episode to appear when subscribing, but they are not referenced in the feed - they have to be actually embedded in the media file: see this page -

Hello all, I have a 30g video ipod and am having trouble getting the album artwork to show up. In itunes I have clicked the show or hide album art button and when I click ipod in the source list and play the song I have loaded the album art onto I can see it in the bottom left. I have also clicked the options button and the display album art box is checked. The artwork still doesnt show on my ipod.
Is there something else I need to do to get it to work?

Yes, it is safe. You're simply putting your iPod back to its original state as it was when new. To do this, you should have an 'iPod Software Updater' folder somewhere either in your Control Panel or simply on Drive C. I'm on a Mac and its in my applications folder.
Anyhow, when you find the folder, just open it up and you'll see your iPod update files. Choose the most recent one and double click. It will then give you the option to "restore" your iPod to its original state. Once you do this, your iPod will be completely erased and you can start from scratch.
I'm glad you got your images to appear once again. You can use the info above for future reference in case you need it.

Why does the album artwork show in itunes but not on my iphone?

When im in itunes all the artwork shows but when i sync it not all of the artwork comes up on my iphone.

I guess I have successfully solved that. Somehow  predicted this problem's appearance and added a function of ID3 tags version conversion. Just convert all of your mp3 files' tags to version 2.4. worked for me, now bitrate gets downgraded and artwork is safe.
p.s.: some of the artwork (especially files that originally were higher bitrate AAC converted to 128 kbit/s) won't show the artwork in the artist or album list at first. just play any of such songs and artwork will show up.

IPod classic album artwork showing in iTunes no longer in Ipod

I have an iPod classic and until today, my album artwork always would show in iTunes and iPod Classic. The artwork is now no longer showing in my iPod and the "get info" tab is not available for me in iTunes.
I tried ticking off the artwork in my iPod, syncing, then ticking again the artwork and albums, then syncing again and still to no avail. Please help, I would be grateful if someone could give me a solution

Restoring is the function in iTunes that wipes a device, reloads the firmware and then lets you put back content. Yes, it deletes the media from the device but that should all be in your library, which in turn should be backed up. See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device and Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy if it isn't.

i just realized when i put some new songs on my ipod that not the album artwork werent showing up, so i followed some directions i found in some other discussion threads, like unchecking the display artwork button and checking it again. But instead of fixing the problem, all my artwork no longer appears on the ipod. In itunes, they are visible. When i play my songs in itunes, the artwork is displayed in the lower left corner but when i disconnect my ipod, the artwork don't show up... can anyone help me?

I recently updated my album artwork and now, on itunes the album artwork is all correct, on my ipod while playing the music too, but when i click the center button twice to look at the album artwork in full screen mod it shows the same album artwork during every song...why?

If your iPod is set to update automatically give this a try , it usually sorts out wrong artwork problems:
1. Connect your iPod
2. Disable "Display album artwork" in iPod>Music tab and click Apply.
3. Syncronise the iPod with iTunes (Right click on the iPod icon and choose Sync from the menu)
4. Re-enable "Display album artwork" in iPod>Music tab and click Apply.
5. Syncronise the iPod again.

The album artwork on my iTouch looks correct when I am scrolling through, but when I play a song the album artwork shows an incorrect image. How do I fix this?

For example, when I am looking through my albums, the artwork is right. When I click on an album and play a song, the album artwork is incorrect. When I go to iTunes and try to look at the artwork, it is correct. What do I do?

A couple of other possibilities:
The CD is dirty / damaged / suffering from "CD Rot" - sometimes CDs may seem to play fine on a CD player (or using the CD-player function of a PC) but will not transfer correctly to a computer - this is the result of the way that CD players auto-correct the datastream from the CD where PCs, when reading the audio CD as data, do not.
Enabling the error correction function in iTunes import may alleviate if not fully resolve this
Use an alternate tool to extract the audio from the CD - Exact Audio Copy is probably the best out there, as it can be configured to attempt multiple reads of every audio sample on a CD to get a consistent result. Then import the resulting files into iTunes.
You don't say whether this is specific to one CD as in the original poster's case, but the "crackling" symptom has affected a significant number of users of the 64-bit version of iTunes 12.1.0.71 - these are mostly addressed in the most recent update (12.1.1.4), but if nothing else works it may be worth trying this alternative installer: iTunes 12.1.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards)

Why won't album artwork show on ipod touch 4g?

My itunes vers 10 is showing all of my cover art. I have gone thru each track and made sure the artwork is attached to each track however only a fraction of the artwork shows on my ipod touch after syncing. I have tried to reboot ipod to no avail. Per other message board posts I have looked for a box to check which reads "Display album artwork on ipod" but I see no such button under Preferences nor on the Music tab when ipod is connected. Pls advise. Thx!

I have had this problem since iOS4 and I recently (mostly) resolved it in iOS6.
1. First make sure you do not 'Sign In' into iTunes store.
2. I used playlists to resolve the issue. Create a playlist with one song, preferably one that does not have any album art.
3. Create another playlist with all the songs you want to add.
4. With your iTouch/iPhone attached open iTunes. Go to Device->Music. Under Sync Music:choose "Selected playlists,albums and genres". Choose the one song playlist from those shown. Click on the Sync(Apply) button. This will delete all of the songs.
5. Once the deletion is complete choose the playlist with all the songs. Click on the Apply(Sync)button. This will install all the songs again and with album artwork.
6. Once all the songs have been installed click on all the playlists that you want to add (no new songs) and click on the Sync(Apply) button again.
You should now have your songs with album artwork and playlists installed. Hope this helps. The song in the one song playlist won't have any artwork even if it is included. There were some albums whose artwork were not installed. I had a 95% success rate. As I said, it mostly solves the problem for me.

Why doesn't my album artwork show?

last night i turned on my iPod, only to see that all my album artwork had disappeared! i had used my ipod earlier in the day and it had been fine, then connected it to the computer and it was all gone...i'm confused, shouldn't the computer fix the problem? please help

Is the software on the Touch up to date - 1.1.4?
If so, you likely have to restore - but don't use the backup when the process begins, use as a "new iPod"
If your software is older, try updating first.
