Album Automatically Reverts to Original pdf not Cropped pdf?

Take a pdf, say with six photos on an 8.5 x 11 page.
Crop out an image found on the whole page and save as a separate file.
When you open the image in Album, it changes the file name (adding a '0' to the end - from Photo-beach.pdf to Photo-beach0.pdf) and shows you the original pdf with all six images, not the saved file with a single image.
Can someone explain to me why this happens and how to stop it?
Thanks,
Scott

How did you do that?
What PSA is supposed to do with a PDF is strip out all of the images as separate files ...

  • Reverting to Original does not delete the backup copy

    Hi,
I am new to Mac. I have late last year's Macbook Pro that came with iPhoto '09.
When I mark certain photos to revert them to original, I am expecting that it would delete the modified copy from the Modified folder in the iPhoto library. In many cases I am seeing that it still keeps the picture in Modified folder.
Why does it not always remove the picture from Modified folder after I have done a Revert to Original?
    Thanks

Make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and try the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Launch iPhoto and try the revert to original again.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • "Revert to Original" does not work.

I recently upgraded from iPhoto 4 to 5 (5.0.4). While browsing, I decided to revert some edited photos (edited in iPhoto 4) back to their original state by using the "Revert to Original" menu item. I got a confirmation dialog which I clicked "OK". Nothing happened! The "Revert to Original" menu item was not grayed out after this attempt so I repeated the process no to avail. I have verified that the original/unedited file is in the "Original" folder inside the iPhoto Library folder.
I am able to revert to the original if I edit a previously unedited photo in iPhoto 5 for the first time. The problem seems to be limited to just those photos that were originally edited in iPhoto 4 and then converted to the new iPhoto 5 library.
    Any ideas?

    Mike:
First try manually setting the permissions on your iPhoto Library folder and contents as follows:
Setting Permissions for iPhoto Library Folder
1 - Select the iPhoto Library folder and type Command-I.
2 - When the Info window comes up go to the Ownership and Permissions section and make sure You have Read & Write permission and that the Owner and Group have Read & Write also. Others - Read Only.
3 - Then click on the "Apply to enclosed items..." button.
If that doesn't help you can, after making a duplicate copy of your iPhoto Library folder, rebuild the library by launching iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select all of the options but the last one, orphans may bring in those non-recoverable originals as new files. You can select it or not. If you have a large library you might want to to save having to go back and redo in case the first rebuild does not work.

  • How do I convert an excel file to a pdf, NOT a pdf to excel

Until this year, I've been running OSX 10.5 Leopard. When I wanted to convert a Microsoft for Mac Excel worksheet to a pdf file, I simply clicked File/Print/PDF (in the lower left corner of the dialogue box)/then, Save as pdf. No problem, perfect pdf file. Upon upgrading to Mavericks this year, the resulting pdf file is filled with a checkerboard pattern that effectively renders the file useless if read onscreen. How can I get rid of the checkerboard?

  • How to automatically ensure printing pdf in safari does not crop content

I realized today that printing  and saving as pdf in safari has been cropping my content. I dont know when this change occured or why, but at some point in time, content I've saved from safari by printing and saving as pdf has cropped the pages.
Is there a way to make sure that printing in safari selects a page size that automatically does NOT crop the content. As it stands now it automatically selects US paper size and that crops all my bank statements. I can put in a custom size buts its really inconcenient to have to do that every time. And every time, it reverts back to US paper. This was never a problem for me in the past and I'm not sure whats changed.
    thanks

Just to update, even if I select a custom size in print settings for the computer, safari automatically goes to US paper. Even if I select to scale content to fit, it still crops the content.
    I've also trashed Library/Preferences/com.apple.print.PrintingPrefs.plist

  • Revert to Original not working

I am contemplating upgrading from iPhoto5 to iPhoto6, but have noticed a bug in my iPhoto5 directory that I think that I should fix before the upgrade. A number of my edited photos will not allow me to revert to original. The option is grayed out. Looking in the iPhoto directory structure, I see both the edited photo and the Original photo in the Originals directory, both where they belong.
It seems that iPhoto has lost track of the Original. If I do more edits to the photo, a new "Original" file appears in the Originals folder with the identical name as the true original, with the exception of a "_1.jpg" extension on the file. I can now perform a "Revert to Original", but iPhoto chooses the _1 file. I can never get back to my true original. This is happening in several, but not all, of my edited files and appears to be the result of a recent crash.
It seems to me that one option is to find all of the originals where this is happening, delete the photos from the library and then re-import them. Because of the number of the affected files, I'd like to avoid this if possible.
Has anyone seen this behavior before? Is there an easy way to fix the file/directory structure so that I don't have to do this manually (I have a lot of photos)? Or will the upgrade from iPhoto5 to iPhoto6 fix this (which I read chages the directories from date-based to roll-based)?
    Any help is appreciated.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Did you by any chance do any renaming or moving of those file via the Finder?
You're right in that iPhoto has lost the original link to those files. What I'd try after making a backup copy of your iPhoto Library folder is to rebuild the library and select the option to include orphaned files. This will rebuild your library and add those files that have lost their links to a new roll and album. From there you can move them to their correct roll before upgrading to V6.
V6 does change the folder system and creates a folder of original files based on each roll in your library. These go into and "Originals" folder. Any file modified gets the modified file placed in the "Modified" folder in a sub folder with the same name as the roll. If you rename a roll from within iPhoto those folders get renamed also.

  • How long can you revert back to the original photo after cropping?

Is there any time limit for how long can you revert back to the original photo after cropping? Are you always able to revert back?
    Thanks.

DAM = "Digital Asset Manager", a fancy name for a filing system.
iPhoto keeps the original and makes one (usually much smaller) copy based on your edits. It is non-destructive in that if you crop, and later change the color, iPhoto will go back to the original and apply the corrections to get the new image, it will not simply modify the preview.
If you want a high quality copy of the image, use the export function which allows you to specify the size and compression.

I can't delete events recurring annually...not part of birthday calendar, these are events I've added manually.  I've tried delete key, cut event, changing to no recurrence, they just revert to original recurrence and will not be removed from my calendar.  Events that occur weekly I'm able to delete, this is only happening with events recurring annually.  Very frustrating.  Thanks for any ideas.

If you are using a PC, log on to iCloud using Safari (rather than Explorer) to reset the photostream. Then turn iPhone/iPad photostream off and back on. I was getting the same server error as you and this advice from another blog worked for my iPhone and iPad.  But I still can't get photostream deleted from my apple tv. There does not seem to be a photostream on/off control In Apple tv 4.4 software.  I tried switching the screen saver to one of the ones that comes preloaded on the device, then back to photostream but all the old photos are still there.  If anyone can help with this, I would appreciate it.

  • Saving as PDF, Photoshop CS5 (Acrobat not cropping)

Just upgraded to CS5 from CS3. In the earlier version, I always saved files as PDFs from the Print box. Then I'd open the PDF in Acrobat and check "Remove White Margins" in order to crop to my Photoshop file size. When I try this same method in CS5, Acrobat will not crop my image to match my Photoshop file size.
I believe it's an issue with Photoshop CS5 because I tried my same old method using Photoshop CS3 and the new Acrobat and it works like it used to. Is there another way to save as a PDF from CS5? Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Printing to PDF from the print box is an OS process - it takes the printer data that Photoshop sends and creates PDF from it.
Photoshop CS5 does use the newer Cocoa printing APIs, which could cause changes in the output (due to differences in Apple's code).
For saving PDF, I really suggest you just save the file as PDF from Photoshop and skip the print dialog.

  • Saving as a PDF -How do you make the PDF not bigger than the original file?

I am running Mac OS X Panther.
I understand that Mac OS X creates a "Digital Master" PDF file, which is larger than a typical PDF file because the resolution of images in the file is not scaled down. The PDF file includes each font character used in the document.
    Problem is this.
I actually want the PDF NOT to be bigger than the original document file.
    Can anyone please help?
    Thanks

    jslat,
It's probably most important to know exactly what you intend to do with the saved pdf file? Are you going to need to print the pdf etc.?
This Apple Knowledge Base article may help if you haven't already read it:

edit: You have posted in the 10.3 Panther OS and earlier forum and you appear to be using 10.4 (Tiger) by your computer specs below your topic which may handle pdf's somewhat differently. In your post you mention Panther so I just wanted to clarify if need be.

  • PDF not automatically opening after creation

I am using Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard on Windows XP and Office 2007.
Since installing Acrobat 9, when I print to the Adobe PDF printer, the pdf gets created fine, but it does not open automatically.
With the previous version, the created file would automatically open.
I have checked the setting in the Adobe PDF printer properties, and there is a tick next to the appropriate tick box.
Any idea why the PDF file would still not be opening?

Strange how Windows loses things. I have been having problems with the Windows Firewall in that it will lose track of some of the services I have on. Thus, when I reboot the license servers do not connect, though they are active. I have to go back into the firewall and reset the services (it has happened to me on both XP and VISTA!). Thus, I sympathize with the issue. Great that you found a solution, and one that I will try to remember. Bill

  • Ios8 ipad mail will not print pdf it has opened automatically

Receiving pdfs sent as attachments to email.  The ipad opens them and puts them on the page.  But when I try to print the header and message prints but not the pdf.
If I go to the same email on the iphone ,also with ios 8, the file is an unopened attachment which prints easily.
To print directly from the ipad would please my partner immensely and perhaps save our marriage . . .

    Hello krnkln3.
Are you trying to send the PDF as an attachment in an e-mail sent to the ePrint e-mail address of the printer or are you trying to print using the ePrint app?
Try sending the same PDF document to the printer's ePrint e-mail address and let us know if that works. If this works but using the ePrint app is not working, maybe the ePrint app is not working fine with this PDF document (it could be due to it's size or something else). Remember that you can always use the e-mail ePrint address of the printer to send PDF documents as the processing is happening at the HP servers and not in your iPad as when you try to send it using the ePrint app.
    Cheers!
