Album Cover problem on 160 GB iPod Classic

Ever since I got this iPod I have had an issue with the album covers showing on the iPod. At first they would show fine everywhere, then they just started showing fine in the lists. Once I would click on a track the album cover would look similar to "snow" that is seen on TV when you are not getting a signal. Now, the only things that have covers on the iPod are songs I bought from iTunes, but any of my CD's I imported do not show up at all even though most of them do have covers when I look at the Cover Flow in the iTunes Library. What can be done to fix this issue?

when you turn down the volume on any apple product to "zero" with headphones plugged in, they assume it means you want the minimum audible volume. if you don't want to hear it, unplug your headphones or just don't push play. it's not a malfunction of equipment, it's operator idiocracy.

  • Alpine CDE-103Bt Head Unit and Problem with 160 Gig Ipod Classic

    Hi,
2 weeks agao I brought a new Alpine CDE-103BT Head unit for my car. I have owned one of the old 160 gig classics for the last year and a half and at the time I brough the unit I was told this should all work sweet. Indeed all of the documentation from Alpine, and the Sales person, said this would not be a problem.
Unfortunately from Day one, most times after I received a phone call, while playing my ipod, the Head Unit would givesme an "Error-03" message and stop playing my music. I would then have to unplug my ipod, reset it, and plug it back in. Extremely frustrating.
The people I brought the Head Unit from are trying to say its an Ipod problem, yet I never had any problems with it and after I contacted the Australian Ipod help line they said it all appears to be working correctly. The firmware version I was on when I first tried the ipod on the head unit was 1.1.2. The Alpine manual said it should be 1.1.1 (then again you would expect them to be able to cope with updates) so as a last ditch attempt I downgraded the firmware on my ipod to 1.1.1, but it did not make a difference.
The only other thing I have noticed is that I switch the repeat and shuffle settings off when I plug in the unit, but after I unplug it after an Error-03 the Repaet function has been swtiched to all - I am not sure if this is what is causing the problem.
I am getting pretty frustrated with everything and I was wondering if anyone else has come accross this issue and even me helpful had they found a way to fix it.
If not has anyone had any postive expereinces with Alpine head units?
    Thanks

  • 160 GB Ipod Classic - data transfer problems

Hi I have a 160 GB Ipod Classic that I have been using to transfer large amounts of data files back and forth between home and work. I had a PC laptop at home and originally had the Ipod formatted for PC, but recently bought a new Mac Book Pro and reformatted it to MAC. Now when I try to hook up to a PC at work it will not recognize the drive and wants to format it to PC.
Is there anyway around this? I could reformat it back to PC and still use it on the MAC, but I like to have it formatted to MAC so that software updates occur when I hook it up. I am trying to make the jump and live in Mac-Utopia...:)
Also, I now have the Itunes library transfered to the MAC
Any help out there would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Mark

    Is there anyway around this?
Not without installing software such as HFSExplorer or MacDrive onto the PC.

  • 160 GB IPod Classic : Sound Distortion?

Recently, I purchased a 160 GB IPod Classic from Wal-Mart. Once I got home and synched my notoriously large music library onto it, I immediately noticed a huge difference in the sound quality.  The kicks and snares were ugly, and the bass was even more disgusting! All of my favorite songs were so distorted.  At first I assumed it was the headphones, so I tested them out on my ''ex'' 8GB IPod Touch to compare - and everything was perfectly fine (and better).
I searched my issue online and seen many buyers like me having the same exact problem, and most of them purchased their IPods in 2009-2010!  How can a problem like this go unsolved for so long? Why wouldn't Apple change/fix the software to be up with the newer generation's standards if they are still for sale today? There has to be someway this could be fixed.
So all I want to know is if I really wasted $249 on a device so worthless? I only bought this product for the 160 GB of memory since I couldn't fit all of my music on my IPod Touch,  and now I feel robbed.

Music post 2008 ish is recorded into an MP3 file at higher volumes than prior to that era.
Modern DAC (digital to analogue converter) can deal with this increase in volume (earlier albums, particularly those ripped from 1980's CDs) will sound quieter.
Unfortunately the DAC in the ipod classic hasn't been updated from one of the early versions.
What I've done for some recent purchases, is run them through this volume levelling software:
    http://mp3gain.sourceforge.net/download.php
There is an equivalent version for the Mac.  They are identical in operation, and one version is no better than the other.
I reduce the volume by about 10% on a whole album, even if it's only 2 or three tracks that are distorting.
Remember to keep a copy of your original files for safety.
The quality of the music does not degrade, and I'm really fussy and have $300 senheiser IE80s.  It's just the volume that is reduced so it doesn't upset the iPod classic DAC.
However, there's no getting away from it, that this is a REAL PAIN, and there should be NO EXCUSE for apple selling such an inadequate product.  It shouldn't be too long before the iPod touch or Nano is in the 200Gb region.  After all, they can fit 64Gb on a Micro SD card whose outer casing is smaller than my small fingernail, what are Apple waiting for?

  • 160 GB iPod Classic just started skipping songs. Is there a fix?

My 160 GB iPod Classic worked flawlessy for about two years and now has begun to skip songs. Always after the same playing time from zero to around 48 seconds. About 5% of the songs skip, but the list is growing and it seems to happen at random. I am on iTunes 9.2.1 (5) on my iMac running Tiger OSX 10.4.
(I also have an older 60 GB iPod that is working fine). I have read many strings by this community concerning  this problem and cannot seem to find a good solution here. It seems like some sort of corruption issue.  My iTunes library seems to be fine. If I delete an album from the iTunes library and then synch the iPod Classic to delete the same album from the iPod Classic then re-burn the album to iTunes and then resynch the iPod Classic, the album plays just fine. Of course, I do not wish to hunt and peck for all the bad songs in order to clean them up, especially if more corruption is going to happen. This is a maddening problem as many of you know. It drives me nuts and ruins my enjoyment of my music with this 160 GB iPod Classic.
My music is all in the AAC audio file format and I have about 8700 songs, some 25 music videos, 25 podcasts and thousands of photos taking up around 63 GB of space on my iPod Classic.  I sure wish that everyone who is having this skipping problem can band together and get a voice at Apple for some help.
The iPod Classic was a joy for about two years - and now - has become an aggravation.

Here I am submitting possible causes and solutions for my own problem. Possible root cause of skipping may be the use of a headset cable having a TRRS connector male plug having 4 conductor rings and 3 insulator rings. My problem started when I began to use an AKG Q460 headset which has this connector. Same TRRS plug may be found on iPhone headset or many other headsets having an active switch control in the cable. I think this headset plug may have caused corruption of digital song data when I actuated skip to next or previous song or possibly even when I increased or decreased the volume which is an incrementing pulse control signal. I went back to the headset cable having the same TRS connector as found on the Apple original headset and on my Sennheiser headset and there is even a short TRS cable that comes with the AKG headset. The problem seems to have gone away. No new skipping songs have occurred since using the TRS connector. You can learn more by searching on TRS connector on Wikipedia.
Fixing the corrupted songs was accomplished as follows: 1) MARK the corrupted song as a one star rating on the iPod. 2) Synch the iPod and then when synch is complete, DELETE the marked songs into the trash. 3) Synch the iPod again to remove the corrupted songs from the iPod. 4) Drag the songs out of the trash to the desktop. Then drag the songs back into iTunes. Remove the one star rating. 5) Synch the iPod once again to restore the uncorrupted songs. Fortunately, the iTunes version of the song does not get corrupted when synching the iPod. So far, this has worked fine. I even had one corrupted music video which was repaired with this method. Comments are welcome, especially regarding the TRS vs TRRS connector theory.

  • Case for 160 gb iPod Classic???

Been everywhere (including the Apple Store) looking for a plain, simple silicone case for a 160 gb iPod Classic. This is the OLD style, and dimension iPod. It is thicker than the new (7th gen) 160 gb iPods. I can't even figure out how to word the google search to look for one. Anyone know where I can find them?
    MANY thanks in advance-
    Blue skies-
    Jeff

When you did the Reset, did the Apple Logo comes ON and asked you to select the preferred language?
Charge your iPod for at least 2 hours.
After charging till full charge, preferably 4 hours
Toggle the Hold switch, make sure you dont see the red mark when you do the  next step
Reset the iPod -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs till the Apple Logo comes ON
    Then release the buttons
    Select your preferred language.

  • My 160 g ipod classic wont synk past 4 gigs and when it gets to 4 gigs it erasis all the content a message unknown error occurd (13011)

my 160 g ipod classic will not sync past 4 gigs and when it gets to 4 gigs it erasis all the content a message unknown error occurd (13011) i have formated it with windows and restored it several times nothing works should i toss it and buy a new one or is it me doing somthing wrong

Thanks everyone, lots of good suggestions here.
I did briefly consider trying the idea of grouping smaller loads of playlists to upload, but I also noticed that each time I ejected then re-synched the iPod a few more gigs of music would upload.
So I just kept at it until most (nearly all) of my music made it onto the thing.
This seems like a really rudimentary thing for Apple to fix - but more fundamentally, this shouldn't happen at ALL. When they market a new product, having such a basic issue plague it seems very Microsoft-like.
Up to this point I've never been disappointed with anything Apple has ever done.
This issue is purely and simply bad design and slipshod programming. I hope they fix it in the extremely near future.
Thanks again for all your help and suggestions guys!
    Cheers

    Hello mimward,
It sounds like Windows can see your devices, but iTunes is not seeing them. I would use the troubleshooting in the following article named:

You can either burn it to a CD or DVD from within iTunes, or back up the entire iTunes library as you would any other folder.

  • Some album artwork won't display on iPod Classic

I've had a strange problem recently with my new iPod Classic(and, come to think of it, my 2nd gen. iPod Nano): certain album artwork won't properly display, but will instead show up as a black square(like the 5th Metallica album, or the Spinal Tap album...). Sometimes, this happens only with certain songs on an album. For instance, I purchased 2 songs from the album "Employment" by Kaiser Chiefs last year. Recently, I purchased the CD, and I imported it to my computer. I chose "get album artwork" so the album cover would display for the newly imported songs, as well as the 2 I already bought. Now, the 2 songs I bought last year display their artwork normally, but the newly imported tracks just display the black square.
What's going on, and how can I fix it?
    Thanks in advance..

in iTunes, choose to not *display Album Artwork on your iPod*, then sync your iPod, then change it back to display album artwork and sync again. I believe that will fix it.

  • Album artwork is not transerring to Ipod Classic

    Hi,
I have a recently purchased Ipod Classic and prior to now, album artwork in Itunes was being copied to the Ipod when syncing. I do have the album artwork option activated. I downloaded all the artwork that was available and it shows in Itunes.
What's up with sudden inability to get the artwork to the Ipod? I'm concerned something happened to the Ipod, tho I can't imagine what. All the albums I'm trying to add artwork to on the Ipod, were added to my music library from CD's not purchased and previously I had no problem with this.

    Hi,
Yep that did it..except for the albums it wasn't able to get artwork for. The funny thing is, other albums that previously had artwork that were from albums synced from my laptop, lost their artwork in the cache rebuild. I'm hoping if I do something similar on the laptop, it'll restore the artwork without messing up the ones I just fixed on the desktop.

  • Album Cover Finder programme murdered my iPod

So - I've got a 160GB iPod classic which has been working well and synching well. I then (in retrospect - foolishly) decide to download Album Cover Finder from Amphonic Designs. It pulls down album cover art perfectly well but as soon as I connect the iPod to synch, iPod and iTunes crashes.
As a result I uninstall Album Cover Finder; delete stored artwork; and delete all music for which I'd downloaded art. But to no avail - my iPod is now no longer recognised and whenever I plug it in it tells me that the iPod is corrupted and needs to be restored.
I've now restored it 3 times; I've tried to download new USB drivers; I've tried to give it a new drive letter; I've done the 5 R's - absolutely nothing works. Most of my music is still in iTunes, but my iPod now has NO music on it and isn't recognised by the system, except as being a corrupt iPod which needs to be restored (as mentioned above - to no effect).
So now I'm looking at my beautiful new iPod and it seems to be completely dead. And this makes me very sad indeed.
    Any suggestions?

Yes, a restore will erase the iPod. It is a bad idea to only have your stuff on the iPod (this issue you are having is a good example why) since if anything happens to the iPod, you lose everything.

  • There Must Be Good News with 80 g and 160 g iPod Classic

As is often stated most people come to the forums because they have a problem. Others come because they like to help with problems. Still others come just to see what is going on in the Apple/iPod/iTunes, etc...world.
I came back after a long absence (my 60 g 4th generation iPod Photo worked great until recently). I had just purchased an 80 g iPod Classic from Apple (it arrives tomorrow 11/2!) and wanted to see what the current issues are. Now I'm scared!
I know from my 20 g second or third generation iPod through my iPod Photo and through all the iTunes updates, iPod updater, etc...that people always had issues yet I never did (knock on wood tomorrow!).
I have to assume that many of you are having no issues with your iPod Classic or iTunes no matter if you use a MAC or Windows XP or even Windows Vista. You updated iTunes and then connected your iPod Classic right out of the box with no sync or manual issues, no music or video issues, etc...RIGHT?
Can anyone offer ANY reassuring words that everything just might go right? I am so dreading taking the iPod out of the box and connecting it!
    Thanks!

you don't have to be scared I guess. The classic may have more issues than previous models had, but it works fine most of the time. FW 1.0.2 was a huge step - be sure to update your firmware! When I got the classic I was shocked because the thumbwheel responded very slowly and the menus loaded slowly as well. I upgraded to 1.0.2 and all those problems were gone. the classic still has some problems, but I guess most of them - if not all - will be fixed by future FW-updates. what you should be aware of:
    * Rarely you battery will drain very fast for no reason. It happened to me only once, and the battery still lasts for about 3-4 hours, but it still ***** if it happens.
    * don't play any games if you wish to synch your playcounts/ratings with itunes. Playing games causes all changed playcounts/skipcounts and ratings since the last synch to disappear. THIS really annoys the **** out of me and I really(!) hope it will be fixed soon!
    * cower flow takes a little to load your album art - and it needs to load it again every time you enter it. at first I thought it does not preload the album art at all, but I noticed it just takes a while. this can be a little disturbing, because you see only "empty" albums at first, and they take a few seconds to load.
    * for some reason you cannot brwose music videos by artist. it's just one long list.
    * when looking through a tv show season, it shows the release date under each episode. I think it should rather show episode/season number or anything like that, but that's just my opinion. also, if you got tv shows you didn't buy in the itunes store, it's not that easy to add release dates. and if you don't, the ipod just ignores the entered episode number and sorts alphabetically (if you're using windows and want to add release dates, take a look at http://tvtagger.wordpress.com/ . with this tool you can add a release date. it will only work when you type it in like this: yyyy-mm-dd)
as you can see, the remaining issues are not that big a deal. at least that's the issues I encountered. maybe I'm just lucky
