Album Shuffle on V12

I am running iTunes V12.0.1.26 on Windows 7 Ultimate(up to date). iTunes is set to album shuffle, repeat all. When the program is closed and re-opened there are two issues that happen:
1) It starts on an entirely new album.
Is it possible to make it pick up where it left off as in the previous version?
2) It always starts in the large window.
Is it possible to make it start in the mini player?
Thanks

  • Album shuffle in iTunes 8.1

Since i have downloaded iTunes 8.1, i've got a strange problem with the album shuffle function.
The normal behaviour of itunes while playing in album shuffle mode is to play : 1. first track of the album 2. second track 3. third track. Itunes 8.1 will from time to time change the order of my tracks, playing 2 then 3 then 1, or different combinations like 1-5-2-3-4 ...
can't understand why, it used to work perfectly in 8.0
    any help ?

*Why is artwork not showing on my iPod when it's there in iTunes?*
iTunes will display a cover in many of it's views provided at least one track from the album has embedded artwork. The iPod appears to load only the artwork from track one to create the cover flow and album views which means that it can sometimes fail to display art for albums even when you can see the art in iTunes. Further, when tracks are played on the iPod, artwork is displayed if and only if it exists in the currently playing track, so track one may show art while track two does not.
*How to find tracks without artwork*
To find all the tracks without artwork so that you can update them you can try http://www.stum.de/itunes-find-tracks-without-artwork/ for Windows or http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=trackswithoutartwork for Macs. Use Google, Amazon, Discogs etc. to locate relevant images. Ideally these should be square, 320x320 pixels or above and borderless to give the best results in the various menus. If you have artwork for some tracks of an album, but not others, find the album in the main music folder, select a track with artwork, right-click (Option-Click for Macs) on the art & click copy, then select all the tracks of the album, use CTRL-I or Command-I to *Get Info* and then paste the image into the artwork box.
I say 320x320 because I believe (from using TouchCopy) that it's the size used in the iPod cache so if you're going to crop or resize you might as well work to that size. Otherwise 200x200 is probably good enough. iTunes store art seems to be generally 600x600.
    *Rebuild artwork cache*
Sometimes the artwork cache becomes corrupt and fails to show correct artwork, even when this is properly set up in iTunes. To rebuild the artwork cache, connect your iPod to iTunes. Locate the iPod in the Sources pane on the left-hand side, then select the Music tab. Remove the tick from *Display album artwork on your iPod*, sync the iPod, reselect the option & sync again.

  • IPod nano 1.2 - Album shuffle broken

Hi, not sure if it's just me, but Album Shuffle is broken on my nano using the 1.2 firmware. Going to Shuffle songs on the main menu shuffles by song regardless of what is set in the settings.
To confirm, I did a full restore to 1.2, added some albums, set setting to Shuffle By Albums and hit shuffle in the main menu. It shuffles by song. Reverted to 1.1.1 with a full restore and repeated - now correctly shuffles by album. As I like to listen to albums in a row, I'm going to have to stick with 1.1.1 for the moment.
    Anyone else see this?

You are right, I have the same problem with Album Shuffle being broken with the v1.2 software. I reported it to Apple via the Nano Feedback form.
When setting Settings > Shuffle > Albums, pressing "Shuffle Songs" on the main menu causes it to shuffle by songs only.
The only way I was able to shuffle by albums in v1.2 that I could find is this:
    1. Settings > Shuffle, and set option to "Albums"
    2. Make sure no song is playing or paused from main menu
    3. Select "Music" and press the Play button
    4. Albums will play using album shuffle as they should.
The problem is, it's difficult to get back to this state of nothing playing if you've selected "Shuffle Songs"; it won't work if "Now Playing" is shown on your main menu. I found that using the Back arrow to go back to the beginning of the shuffle stopped it from playing and then you can follow the steps above.
I hope Apple fixes this bug soon, it's REALLY annoying!

  • Album Shuffle Doesn't Work Properly When Albums Have The Same Name

I'm using the latest versions of iTunes 7.0.2 and 5.5G iPod v1.2.1, but this problem has existed in (as far as I know) all iPods to date. It certainly still continues to occur on the latest iPod.
Example of the problem: I have many Albums by different Artists. I listen to them on my iPod by using "Album Shuffle" which plays the contents of an album in sequential order, but successive albums in random order. This is good when it works. However, iTunes and iPod have a problem when more than 1 album has the same name. So, let's say you have 3 albums by 3 different groups (Band A, B, and C), all called "Greatest Hits". The expected behaviour is that "Greatest Hits by Band A will play tracks 1-10, then another random album, and then sometime later, the album "Greatest Hits" by Band C will play tracks 1-15. That would be good, but this does not happen. Here's what actually happens:
    Some Album / Band X / Track 14
    Some Album / Band X / Track 15
    Some Album / Band X / Track 16
    Greatest Hits / Band A / Track 1
    Greatest Hits / Band B / Track 1
    Greatest Hits / Band C / Track 1
    Greatest Hits / Band B / Track 2
    Greatest Hits / Band A / Track 2
    Greatest Hits / Band C / Track 2
    Greatest Hits / Band B / Track 3
    Greatest Hits / Band C / Track 3
    Greatest Hits / Band A / Track 3
... (until all "Greatest Hits" tracks by Bands A, B, and C have finished)
    Another Album / Band Z / Track 1
    Another Album / Band Z / Track 2
    Another Album / Band Z / Track 3
As you can see, the iPod treats all 3 "Greatest Hits" as one humungous album. Now, until version 7, even iTunes appeared to be pretty confused about this, but with the latest version added the "Album Artist" tag (which I've applied correctly to all tracks in my Library), so that it can identify albums as separate entities properly, even if they have the same name. (This was necessary for Cover Flow to work.) Sadly, this logic has not made it to the iPod, and we still have the crazy playback situation above.
Since the first day I bought my first iPod back in 2002, I've always used Album Shuffle, and this has always been a problem. I was surprised to find that even the latest iPod still hasn't fixed this, even though iTunes seems to have. Apple, please could you fix this?
    iPod 5.5G, iTunes 7.0.2   Mac OS X (10.4.8)
Power Mac G5 Dual 2.3 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

BTW, I'm not looking for workarounds that involve renaming albums. What if I have 158 "Greatest Hits" albums?

  • Album shuffle not right with 3.1.1 update

After updating to the latest formware last week, I hit a new issue: If you have multiple albums with the same name, by different artists, such as something obsure like 'Greatest Hits', album shuffle mode ignores the different artists, and shuffles between the albums. So instead of hearing all of Elton John's Greatest hits, and then some other album, I have a mix of Elton John, Simon and Garfunkle, and Benny Goodman, and The Outlaws. Not what I really wanted, and if I did, I'd put it on song shuffle.
Has anyone seen this before the latest release, or is this a new feature, and does anyone at Apple know if there are plans to implement this correctly?

Some people have reported that Updating iChatUSBCam
and deleting the Macam drivers and then the
com.apple.ichat.plist is the way to go.
Thanks for your help!! I tried these things before, but tried them again in the order you suggested with no success. I'm pretty sure it is not a UVC compliant camera. It's not on Logitech's list of UVC cameras.
    M/N: V-UBG35
    P/N: 861228-0000
    PID: CE6420A
If I try it without the Macam drivers it doesn't show up as a camera is connected at all.
It's so frustrating because it was working great with iChatUSBCam until the recent update. It still works in Skype with no problems, but I'd rather be using iChat if I can - much better video quality.
    Thanks for any suggestions!

  • Album shuffle doesn't work

For some reason, selecting shuffle by album doesn't work for me. In fact, all of the three shuffle by options seem have the same effect; shuffling by song.
whats going on? shuffle worked fine in 4.9. what did apple do to mess up a perfectly working shuffle feature? Am I missing something, or are other people having this problem?
On a similar note, I'd like to be able to select what type of shuffle I want by playlist, so I don't need to go into preferences to switch that when I change playlists.

Album shuffle is currently only working if you have the smart shuffle slider exactly in the middle (ie, "random"). If you move the smart shuffle slider in either direction it causes album shuffle to instead become "song shuffle".
So, place the slider back in the middle and it should work just like it did in 4.9.

  • Bug: albums with similar names get mixed up in album shuffle mode

I got 2 albums with the same name Splinter from Offspring, and Splinter from Sneaker Pimps. When i use 'album shuffle', there 2 albums get mixed up together: the iPod treats it as 1 album and play one track from Offspring and one from Sneaker Pimps after eachother. Stooopid! Apple, fix this please for me?

This is a well known problem and I don't think it's going to be fixed for you.
The only solution at the moment is to separate the albums yourself. It may not be pretty but Splinter (Offspring) and Splinter (Sneaker Pimps) is probably your answer.

  • Skipping entire albums in Album Shuffle

How do you skip past entier albums while in album shuffle mode (skip to the next album rather than skip through all of the songs in the album). I thought center click + > was supposed to work but it doesn't...

unfortunatly, there's no way to do so. you have to skip all the tracks of an album.
the funny thing is, I was thinking the same thing today. I was using the "normal" (song) shuffle mode. I shuffle smart playlists that pick songs depending on their rating. But some days, I don't want to listen to a particular artist or album. So - since the iPod creates a temporary, static playlist if you play something - it would be nice to be able to delete an album or an entire artist from that playlist temporarily (so they still remain in the playlist you originally selected from your menu, but they disappear from the temporary playlist the iPod creates)
would appreciate it, but before apple puts in stuff like that I would rather love a bug-fix-update

  • Album Shuffle on iPod Touch

I have been a dedicated user of the iPod Classic.  One of my favourite features is the album shuffle.  I just load up the iPod and let it go.
I recently upgraded my sound dock which has bluetooth.  So, I traded in my iPod Classic for an iPod Touch, a lot less memory but with bluetooth.  I have been trying to get it to do the album shuffle but it appears that this feature is no longer available.  Any suggestions?

  • Can i skip complete albums when ipod is on album shuffle mode?

I enjoy having ipod set to album shuffle. however, when an album comes up that you're not in the mood for, its really annoying to have to skip through each of the songs to get to the next album. is there a way to skip the entire album to the next one?

    You can request that Apple add this feature here;
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipod.html
In the meantime, as Chris has answered your question, perhaps you wouldn't mind marking his post as 'solved'. This will tell other people posting that your question has been answered as well as rewarding Chris (in the form of points) for taking the time to respond.
    Thanks.

  • Problems with Album Shuffle

    Hi all.
I have a problem with Album Shuffle mode. Basically, I am trying to listen to my albums, but it will start treating songs from the same album as being from different albums. I have tried editing the info of the tracks to be identical in every way, I have even used the multiple editing feature, and they are in the same folder in my iTunes Music library. I am stuck with what to do, as I really like the album shuffle feature and don't want to have to manually choose the next album and such. Can you guys help at all? Would be very grateful for any advice

I tinkered with it a little more, and no idea HOW I fixed it, but it's working now. Maybe had something to do with genres.

  • Skipping entire album when using "album shuffle mode"

    Hello everybody !
I like the feature that I call "album shuffle mode", the one that plays randomly all albums. I was wondering if it is possible to skip an entire album to play the next one.
To be precise I don't want the album to be removed from music played in random mode, I just want to be able to skip it if it is not the thing I wanted to listen to.
Sometimes I'm getting Techno just after listening to Vivaldi
I would be happy to say "No no iPod ... you didn't choose the good album, try another one"
    Thanks
    Nano 8Go   Windows XP

Short of marking the albums you don't want to play in the shuffle mode in iTunes (which I believe you are saying you don't want to happen) then there really isn't a way to skip a whole album. I'm a little confused on what you are calling ranodom mode and what you are calling album shuffle mode. When you say random mode, are you referring to when a specific playlist is played in shuffle mode or are you referring to when every song on your ipod is being shuffled? My original answer above was assuming you meant when all songs on the ipod is being played.

  • Music and album shuffle

Can you be able to shuffle albums when listening to music?
I like to listen to albums in my library, but the shuffle only shuffles the entire library.

The iPhone OS doesn't seem to do album shuffle, so I wrote an app to bring it back. It's called AlbumMixer, and the iTunes link is http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=329552764

  • [All Platforms][Music] Album Shuffle Function

Spotify should implement a shuffle album function. The path for shuffling all songs is currently Your Music > Songs > Shuffle Play. The only difference for the paths would need to be swapping Songs for Album (or Playlist or Artist, or however this could be expanded).  I really like listening to music, sometimes I enjoy the song shuffle feature, but usually it's too erratic for me. One minute it's hardcore, the next is some americana rock, the next is some sad singer songwriter, then on to hair metal... you get the picture. What would be nice would be an album shuffle feature. Let me listen to 15 hardcore songs in a row by the same artist, then onto an album of Americana rock, then maybe I want to skip the depressing singer/songwriter that's up next, so I do. I've always thought it would be an awesome feature to have and hopefully some other folks do too.

further research led me here- https://community.spotify.com/t5/Live-Ideas/Shuffle-by-Album/idi-p/18457 so give that kudos or what have you.

  • Where, Oh Where is the Album Shuffle???

I love my Touch. Oh, wait. I "Sort of" love my iPod Touch. I would love it more if it acted like a REAL iPod. Like my wife's Nano. Or my 4th gen classic. Because THOSE models not only shuffle songs they shuffle ALBUMS. I can listen to one randomly chosen album all the way through and then the iPod will RANDOMLY choose another album for me to listen to, in its entirety, all the way through. I love this feature. I LOVE this feature. But, the Touch doesn't have it.
Oh, wait! iPod Lounge reports that if you crack the Touch and do some jiggering (which I am not wont to do) there is ALREADY a hidden option to shuffle the Albums.
Apple! Give me what I use to have and what I already have but can NOT access?
What is up with this? Does anyone know? Or know who I can talk to? I miss this. It has really lessened the quality of my iPod experience and makes me miss my old ipod.

But that is not what I want to do. Sure I can shuffle an album. No problem. I can do that with any ipod.
What I want is for the ipod to play, say, Springteen's Born to Run, in it's entirety, all the way through, unshuffled and then randomly choose the next album, maybe it's The Clash's London Calling and it plays that all the way through, etc, etc, until you've exhausted every single album, randomly, on your oPod. Your ipod can do that. The Touch and the iPhone can NOT. It's simple for you: Go to settings, shuffle and choose "Album" instead of Off or Songs. The thing is, this feature is inside the iPod Touch but you have to Jailbreak it to access it and I don't want to do that.
I can sort of understand why Apple left this feature off, I think I am one of ten people that use it. But, it's a great feature and I miss it and until I have it then the Touch, as an "iPod music player" is inferior to the Classic or the Nano.
But, it's in there and I want it. Why is this so much to ask.
    Album Shuffle not Shuffle Album.
