Album song order

The songs are listed out of order for some albums, how do I get them listed in the numerical order they are supposed to be to match the album?

  • Keeping album song orders in their original order???

    Hello everyone,
I'm a nubie to mastering Itunes, but I was wondering if anyone can help me keep my albums, song orders, organized in their original track order, instead of alphabetically.
Most of my mp3's are in individual album files inside the artist file, with a number order beginning each track name 01_tracka, 02_trackb, etc. etc.
Anyway, when I add all my songs to itunes and use my library/browser to search for albums, they come up alphabetically totally messing up my original song orders.
    What am I doing wrong?
    thanks,
    Tucky
P.S. I don't let itunes organize my music folder, because I want to keep my original file folder structure.

    Gene,
iTunes does not use the file names to display or sort the tracks. It uses the tags associated with each track. You can edit a track's tags by highlighting the track, pressing Command-I, and then clicking on the Info tab.
To put an album in track order, you would need to enter the track number in that field of the get Info box. You would at least need to actual track number, you could add the total number of tracks as well.
You sort iTunes by clicking on one of the headers of the spreadsheet-like display. So, if you select a single album to look at, you could sort it in track order by clicking the header of the "Track #" column. If you are displaying all the albums by a particular artist, if you have the track tag filled in, then you can click on the "Album" header to sort by the album name and each album will be sorted in track order.
View Options (Command-J) only determines what columns are displayed in the main "spreadsheet" like display of iTunes. To actually sort the tunes, you need to click on the header of the column you want to sort by.

  • Album song order problem

I am sure that this problem has been posted but for some reason I cannot find the search box to search through the posts. I only have a search box that searches the entire support page.
I want to be able to see my songs alphabetically when I am viewing my ipod by artist. It seems as though it is set up according to the album order. When I look at a particular artist I have a long list of songs and it is hard to find a song because who remembers the songs in the order of how they are arranged on the album. Is there a way to change this besides going into the info and manually changing it? that would be very time consuming....
    Thanks,
    Kevin
Also...How do I search posts now??? I used to be able to do this.

Don't believe you can accomplish what you want with the iPod unless you manually change the sort keys in Get Info, and I'm not sure about that. You could try it for one artist and see.
The ability to search discussions is temporarily suspended right now while they sort out all the iPhone gremlins.

  • Album song order is out of whack...

I have an album that is a public mixtape that I have organized exactly the way it should be, but if I click to sort by Album it throws a few songs out of order -and all the songs are named: "01 xxx.mp3, 02 xxx.mp3" and so on.
How can I reorder the way iTunes sorts by Album so it's in the right order to play on my iPod?

    Hey grishow,
Get Info on the tracks in iTunes and then verify the track number is correct. Highlight the track> File> Get Info> track number.

  • Album song order not kept!

    Hello
I imported lots of songs into my itunes library from various sources (itunes store, CD's, and audio files converted from my vinyl records) This way, songs from a specific artist, and sometimes from a specific album, could come from different sources.
Now, I try to arrange all the songs from a specific album to appear in the appropriate order, but I just can't find a way of doing this! The songs just appear in the way itunes sorts them, without any relation to the original order of the album. Even more, in the ipod, the order changes once again with no appearant reason!
I tried changing the names on the files in itunes to include serial numbers (01, 02 and so on, at the names of the songs). but then again, for some reason, no order is kept.
How can I sort the songs in the album according to the proper order? I don't want to use a special playlist for each album.
Thank you in advance for your replies

I'm having the same problem. I don't want to add any more songs into itunes because it's getting too messed up. I want the songs in the order that they appear on the cd. If you find a solution please let me know.

  • Album song order changes when synced to i-pod

On I-tunes the songs in the albums are in the correct playback order but when I sync it to my i-pod the some of the songs are in the wrong order. Everything looks ok when I look at the "get info" section. Any ideas?

looks like I figured out something that worked for me. In itunes I selected a playlist on my ipod, inside that playlist I selected an entire album by shift clicking the first and last song. In this example I'll use "album x" which has always been out of order on my ipod...after I selected the entire album I chose "get info" when the window pops up I saw that the "album artist" box was empty but the "artist" box wasn't. I just typed the same thing that was in the "artist" box into the "album artist" box and hit ok...after a quick resync "album x" which has always been out of order is now all of a sudden in order...and it has worked for multiple albums on my ipod, especially the sound tracks, give it a shot and let me know if it works for you.
    Thanks

  • Can I Change Album Song Order Without Making a Playlist?

Some albums get reissued in a different order than I am used to. To reorder the songs, I have been making a playlist and dragging the songs over in the order I want them. But--this feels like many extra steps. Can you just import the cd, and then reorder the songs in iTunes? If so, how? Thanks!

I think I solved it, actually. I clicked on the title of a song, and the whole line was highlighted; I then dragged it into the position I wanted, dropped it, and it stuck. Kind of reminded me of re-arranging my favorites list. It was pretty easy once I figured it out.

  • Change Album Song Order on M250?

Just use MP3Tag and make sure the Track # field is filled in. Try it on a couple "albums" and see what happens. The m200 series is pretty ancient these days, but if you're happy with it and it worksm why not use it.

Hi Tapeworm!  Good to see that you're still here.  It looks like you are the go-to guy for trailing edge Sandisk players like my trusty old M250. My way of creating many different playlists on my old M250 is to change the "Album" tag of the  songs I want on the same playlist . So, for my current summer playlist I've changed the album tag to "Summer 2015." So now I have a set of my favorite summer songs that I can play  by selecting that "Album" name on the M250. But, I can't figure out  how to change the order of the songs.  They always play in the order of the "Date Created" I suppose I could use MP3Tag to go through the list and change the dates on each  of the songs.  But that would be quite a chore. Is there an easier way to change the order of the songs on an "Album"  on an M250

iTunes sorts things in thew following way (based on having the correct ID3 tag info)
Album > Disc number > Track Number
if you sort things by Album
iTunes does NOT take anything from the file name unless no ID3 tag info is present in the file, then you will see the file name appear as the track name and all other fields blank. ID3 tags are the way most meta-data is handled noawadays.
    Hope that helps.

  • Album song order changes when imported or burned to CD

    I hope someone can help
When I buy a song the order of these songs is changed once it is in my library, and it is displayed backwards for instance if there are twelve songs number 1 will become 12 and so forth.
The same happens when I make a back up copy of whatever i bought
    What am I doing wrong?

More background. When I export my iTunes library to an xml file, and view the file in a text editor, I see that the tracks that appear in the wrong order on the iPod are in the correct order in the xml file, with the correct track numbers. On the way to the iPod, something weird happens.
Would be great if someone could take a shot at this.

  • Unable to correct Album: 'Song play Order' on iPod

Windows Itunes (version 7.01): Sync to iPod Enabled (manually manage songs & videos box is: UNchecked)
Ipod 5G 60 GB (OS 1.2): Shuffle play set to OFF
When I recently added a new album (of ten songs) into iTunes, I forgot to enter their correct corresponding track number. I subsequently (in iTunes) entered the album artist's name (same for all songs) and corresponding correct track numbers (1 of 10, 2 of 10, etc), with the album's song order now appearing & playing (in iTunes) correctly now.
I then SYNCED my iPod to iTunes, with the iTunes display window confirming that these songs were being updated on my iPod. The artist-album song list order (albeit greyed out) under the "MY iPod" icon in the iTunes Device>Music section also confirmed that the album song order had been succesfully changed. Interestingly enough, I noticed it's NOT possible to CHANGE the song sort category here in the iTunes DEVICE section (always remains on 'artist'), even though I'm able to change the sort category in the iTunes LIBRARY section. I had expected that whatever category was selected in LIBRARY section would be reflected in the DEVICE > MY iPod section as well. Why is this not the case?
Strangely enough, when I then EJECT my iPod from the PC and call up the above Artist>Album, the album's songs still appear in the original (WRONG) order as when the album's songs were when initially loaded . What am I doing wrong? Did I miss something here?
How can I get my Album Songs to play in the correct (ammended in iTunes) order, on my iPod too?
Thanks in advance for all help and assistance.

    Hi Snubnog,
Many thanks to your reply and informative link, I now use this succesful work around solution: 1) removing the recently tag edited songs from my iTunes library and then 2): re-importing them back into the iTunes Libary. Following this, and syncing my iPod up to the iTunes library again, my album songs now appear in correct play order.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • Song order messing up in very strange ways.

I've recently had a very strange problem with itunes displaying the album song order correctly.
For some (not all, but quite a few) of my albums, The first song has moved to the last slot. Sometimes this happens for up to 5 or 6 different songs in an album. The strangest part, however, is that albums will begin to do this randomly. Albums that were perfectly fine the day before are now also messed up. I have already tried correcting tags and double checking to make sure everything is the same for all songs. Is there any solution to this problem?
For your convenience, I've taken some screenshots so you can understand what I'm talking about.

  • How do I get Itunes to play an album in order if some of the songs are duets? For example, if I'm playing an album by "John Doe" and track

How do I get stupid Itunes to play an album in order if some of the songs are duets? For example, if I'm playing an album by "John Doe" and track #3 is a duet w/ "Jane Doe", it treats it as a separate album! What can I do

    Hi
    All my tracks are MP3.
In List View, I do not have an Album column I have an Album by Artist column.  If I click on this column the albums look right in the playlist on the screen but when I burn to the CD the tracks are not in one folder per album instead they seem to be in folders per Artist then Album, which as one of the albums is a compilation has created about 30 folders.
If I switch on the 'Sort by Album' column it burns the disc as I expected.

  • Can't get albums/songs in correct order!!! (11.1.3)

I can't get songs and albums to order correctly on my iPod. All but one album has the correct song order on iTunes on my laptop and they are all ordered by artist/year on iTunes, I can't get that ordering method to transfer to the iPod. And on half the albums on the iPod the songs are out of order and/or the albums are out of chronological order.
So I had been using some outdated version of iTunes on my old computer for some time, and with that version and my 4th gen Nano I was able to get my albums arranged by year like I like them.
I bought a new computer (old one still works) and had my iPod stolen about the same time so I had a new computer and was forced to resort to a secondhand 3rd gen Nano, using iTunes 11.1.3, completely unfamiliar to me. Some of the stuff I own isn't off iTunes and that's what I'm having the biggest problem with.
I had the issue of two songs being in the wrong place on one album. The track numbers were appropriate, everything else in the "get info" field was identical to the rest of the album. Frustrated, I once again copied my library from my old computer to my new one. This was a huge mistake.
In an attempt to get everything back the way it was I started messing with the iPod settings in iTunes, checking boxes like "manually manage songs" without having a clue what they did. I tried "converting higher bit songs to 192kbps" due to this old turd not being able to hold all my music otherwise. This helped none.
At least half of my albums were now out of chronological order, some of them were split into 2 albums, (one album would claim to only have one song. It had all 12 or so songs from that album but they were out of order.) Some had all the songs in order but were chronologically incorrect. (2002 album appearing before 1997 album) and some (like the one I got off a CD) are impossible to order correctly. I manually filled out every. single. field. in the "properties" section. The track listing still goes like 2,3,4,5,1,10,7,8,9 or something like that. It is just infuriating.
I have just had it. I've tried everything I can think of, I've scowered the internet and can't find anything helpful.
I'm at the point right now where I think it would be easier to just buy 50 CDs and use those to listen to in my car rather than have to deal with Satan's idea of user-friendliness. Any help is greatly appreciated, I've just had it.

This is a programming error, obviously - to me. Is someone addressing that issue? Anybody?
What behaviour exactly do you consider to be a programming error? If repeatable and clearly not an intended design choice then a bug report might be in order. If it works as designed but you think it should work differently then feedback would be the way to go. Either way nobody is likely to address an issue that isn't brought to their attention.
I am unable to put the songs of a playlist I created in the order I want. iTunes 11.1.3 has been on my machine since September of last year and this issue began today. I'd lke to believe it's the result of something I have done, but the world is full of things I would like to believe that are not.
"View Options" was set to 'manual' and songs would snap back when I attempted to move them, so - as that was the only preference I could find that applied - I changed it to "Artist Name" and back to manual. Now they don't budge when I attempt to move them.
Ah, when viewing a playlist use the List view and select the heading of the left-most column of numbers. This is the Play Order column. You can drag tracks up and down the list. If you sort on some other column and would like to use this as an initial order which you can then modify, right-click on the playlist name and click Copy to Play Order then select the play order column. Note the triangle should be pointing upwards otherwise the list will play in reverse on your device.

  • Song order on albums

My iPod always displays the wrong order of songs for particular albums. I tried connecting it to the computer and changing the song order via iTunes but it was correct on iTunes. Went back to iPod and it is still the wrong song order on those albums. Any solutions?

I got it - some songs had "Album Artist" set, some not. Those without were at the end of the list, regardless of the track number set. iTunes disregards "Album Artist" and shows songs in correct order. I simply removed album artist in all tracks and the order became correct. Setting album artist to the same for all tracks would also work.
As for artist order, it also became correct ("The Beatles" under "B") after I reinstalled iTunes with English (by default, the first installation was German - stay away from it).
