Album split into 3 albums in album view

Hi
I have been transferring some of my old music from a Creative MP3 player to my Ipod. When I go into album view, a couple of albums have been split up, into 3 albums. The first having the first few tracks, the next album having a couple more, then the final album having the last few. Is there any way I can tell Itunes they are the same album, and link them all up accordingly?
Thanks

Hiya, I had exactly the same problem, You need to right click on the songs that have been split up and go to "get info" and make sure the album name are EXACTLY the same. Make sure there are no spaces after the album name and that all capital letters are the same etc. This sorted it out for me, hope it does for you!

  • Albums split up in new grid view on itunes 8

when browsing my albums in the new grid tab of itunes, some of my albums are split up into their own separate album. for example the "august rush" album i purchased from itunes is split into twelve different albums. how do i combine those songs so all the songs are in one album slot?
i have already changed the "sort album by" to "title" in the "view" tab.
any suggestions and i would really appreciate it

    *Grouping tracks into albums*
Excuse the long post, but hopefully covering all the bases (that I can think of) will help you fix the other issues you are likely to run into as you try to organise your library.
The iPod (and iTunes to a lesser extent) conflates two or more albums with the same title, most obviously with *Greatest Hits*. On the iPod this can result in one album acting as a combination of two or more. Selecting any cover gives all the tracks of all albums with the same title. The workaround for this "Greatest Hits" bug is to give each album a unique title - I tend to go for *Album - Album Artist* as this reads clearly in the iTunes browser. Alternatively you could use the wording as it appears on the cover, append different numbers of spaces for each different album or set different values for the Sort Album.
iTunes relies on the Gracenote CDDB database when identifying CD's. This often marks collections or anthologies of an artist's work as a compilation. In iTunes, however, the compilation flag has the logical function of grouping together tracks with the same album name, but different artists on each track, e.g. "Now That's What I Call Metal 666!". These compilations are then all grouped together at the end of cover flow. Most of us however, would expect "Greatest Hits" albums to be listed with the other albums by the same album artist. For albums which are essentially by a single album artist or group it is best to set the appropriate value for the album artist and clear the compilation flag.
Sadly the iPod ignores the Album Artist field when grouping albums which causes problems when some tracks list guest artists. You can simply mark the entire album as a compilation which seems to be the way iTMS handles it, however that's not an ideal fix. Short of waiting for Apple to address this issue (and as far as I can tell it goes back to the 1st gen. of iPods) we need a workaround. What I do is to put any additional artist info. in square brackets after the song name. E.g. *Track \[Feat. Guest\]* and then set *Artist=Album Artist* for each track. For anthologies where the Album Artist is credited as part of another group, e.g. for Cream tracks on an Eric Clapton anthology, I use *Track \[As Group\]*. For a track where the main Album Artist doesn't receive a credit, e.g. the first track of the Slim Shady LP credited to Jeff Bass, I just set the track name to *Track \[Guest\]* while still setting the artist to the album artist. N.b. I use square brackets to indicate this is information about the track rather than part of the song title and also use this style for Mix/Live/Bonus info.
iTunes may split albums into two or more sections if some tracks from the album have different values for Artist, Album Artist, Album, No. of Discs or Part of a Compilation. Tiny differences such as trailing spaces, accented characters or variants of symbols can sometimes be quite hard to spot. The iPod is also more sensitive to case variations and may split or reorder an album that looks okay in iTunes. Normally overtyping the desired value for each shared field will complete the grouping of the album into one entity. Occasionally, however, this method seems to fail. When this happens I've found that you can force every field to update properly by adding some extra text - e.g. a trailing X, which once applied seems to complete the joining of the tracks into one album. Once this has happened the extra data can be removed and the album should remain properly grouped.
The Sort Artist, Sort Album & Sort Album Artist fields can be used to override the normal sort order. For example iTunes automatically drops leading prepositions (a/an/the) so "The Beatles" are arranged under "B" instead of "T". Occasionally different tracks from the same album can have different values in these sort fields which can also break up the grouping. Making the sort columns visible in iTunes can help with spotting & correcting such problems.
Multi-disc albums are often listed as *Album (CD1)* for CD 1, *Album (CD2)* for CD 2 etc. To display these properly using just one cover, each disc should have the correct *Disc X of Y* values set, and then the entire album should be given the single title Album. Being somewhat obsessive I also renumber the tracks sequentially, working backwards from the last track until I reach disc 1.
With classical music you also need to be wary of alternative representations of artist/composers names. The menus will work best if for each composer you standardise on just one form of their name. E.g. make a choice between Mozart, W.A. Mozart or Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and then apply it consistently. I tend also to use the Composer as the Artist & Album Artist and either discard performer details or place these into the Description field. (I’d use Comments but iTunes has a habit of writing long hex strings into it for no readily apparent reason).

  • ABBA Gold Album split into 2 Albums since with 11.4(18) update

Strange things happen, with a click on the Album (ABBA Gold latest) it split up into 2 Albums one with only the 1. Song and one with the rest.
I tried to delete it locally and download from the cloud again, but when I choose to view the "music" in the cloud it is still split into 2 albums ... So it looks like the split is in the data on the cloud...
I read a ton of articles about split albums, but couldn't change anything...
Any Idea how to fix this?

Select the songs, do right-click->Get Info, and fill in the Album Artist field (eg, "Westide Story Cast").  This should override the "Artist" field and cause the songs to be grouped into one album.
The individual artists will display under the songs when viewing the album (although I've found I have to restart iTunes for that to occur).

  • 1 album split into two

    Hi
I have an album in iTunes 10.5.1 which is split into two, there does not appear to be an discernable diferences in the Get Info of the various tracks, so why does iTunes insist on splitting the album?
Is there any way to tell iTunes that all the tracks are from the same album?
    Cheers.

    Thanks again for the reply,
I've selected all the tracks then copied and pasted the name of the Artist in the Get Info- Sorting- Sort Artist, this seems to have done the trick. If this fails I'll play around with this option, but this is something that I would rather not do in the future so I appreciate your tip.
    Cheers.

  • Tracks of album split into 2 albums

iTimes 11.1.3 -- some of my albums are split into sections that actually appear as if they are entirely separate albums. In all cases, these are albums that had been downloaded from iTunes Store (years ago). For example, I have 3 albums. For simplicity I'll call them album 1, 2 & 3. Album 1 is missing 3 tracks. Album 2 contains 2 of the tracks that belong to Album 1. Album 3 has the third track that belongs to Album 1.
Don't know how this happened (it was years ago). Am trying to combine so they all are in a single album.

    Glad that helped.

  • Songs from same album splitting into seperate albums

I have had this problem a few times and have been able to work through it, until now. I have ripped albums onto itunes and had themshow up as 2 or 3 different albums of the same name on in the album art viewer on itunes. Last night I did a Trans-Siberian orchestra album and it did the same thing. I would select all the songs and change the album name to the same one on the ID3 tag, but they would still show as 2 albums- both named the same. It would put 13 songs in 1 album and 4 in another every time. I finally went in and named each info block except song title exactly the same and it finally seemed to take. I itunes i finally got it to show up as 1 album. Here's the catch-- when I exported it to Ipod the stupid thing split the songs up into 3 (!!) albums on the cover art viewer and listed them under the artist that way too. And each of the displayed albums are named EXACTLY the same- no difference in Caps or anything. Anyone have any Ideas?

The trailing space is the hardest to spot.
Best way to cure this is to go into iTunes, highlight that artist and/or songs, right click on them and select "get info".
This brings up the multiple song info window. If you see the "artist" field is left blank, then there is a discrepancy with that name.
If the above is not the issue, try this also. Highlight all the songs for that artist, right click on them and select "apply sort field/same artist".

  • One album split into three

Some of my cds are broken up into pieces. It split Lady Gaga's The Fame into three parts, and the Fame Monster into three parts. I try to drag them together, and it doesn't work. The cd info is exactly the same. There is absolutely no reason for them to be separate, yet they are. Why is it being so dumb? I seriously want to throw my computer at the wall.

  • One album split into 2 separate files in iTunes?

I downloaded Fergie's "Glamorous", and "Fergie" (the artist) shows up twice in my artist list. The first listing contains 10 tracks of the album, and the second listing contains the remaining 3 tracks.
I've gone into "Get Info" and have changed all 13 tracks so that they have the same information, but when I synch my iPod, the 2 files don't merge.
What do I have to do? Thanks.

So the Artist section says Asher Roth, the Album Artist - Asher Roth & Keri Hilson.
That's definitely the wrong way around... *Album Artist* should be the same for all tracks of the album, i.e. it is the name of the Artist that released the Album. Individual tracks may have different performers which can be recorded in the Artist field. Provided you are placing the music on a device such as iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch that runs firmware that works with the *Album Artist* field then all will be fine. If, like me, you also have iPod Classics, then you need to use the more complicated workarounds I give in that article or, of course, just live with things the way they are.
Unfortuanately we have the software that Apple have given us, which in turn relies on data in the Gracenote database. Neither are perfect but if you want a neat & tidy library then it can be achieved with a little effort. I pretty much licked my library into shape by hand but these days I also use scripts to perform repetitive tasks. Perhaps Doug's Scripts has something useful (How about Tag This, Tag That which would let you swap Artist<=>Album Artist?) or you could roll your own.

  • When i update ios 8, there some of my pic in my photo album did't show on my album, but show in photos? secondly, why my album split into 2 and out of one has 3 local disk file in it?

problem occur when i update ios 8

Photos taken with the phone are not stored in the camera roll anymore, Apple found a new way to sort your photos.
By default, Photos displays a representative subset of your photos when you view by year or by collection. To see all your photos, go to Settings > Photos & Camera, then turn off Summarize Photos.
View by location. While viewing by year or by collection, tap . Photos and videos that include location information appear on a map, showing where they were taken.
While viewing a photo or video, tap to show and hide the controls. Swipe left or right to go forward or backward.
Search photos. From Albums or Photos, tap to search by date (month and year), or place (city and state). Search also keeps your Recent Searches on hand and gives you a list of suggested searches.

  • ITunes - One Album Splitting Up Into 3. (Please Help)

Okay, so I have an album that I have aptly named UKFDubstep 2010, this album contains 20 tracks, although it has been split into 3 different albums, although they are the same
Although I selected all songs at once and edited the artist name, album artist name and album name at the same time so all tracks have the same album info, so that is not the problem,
    It looks like this;
UKFDubstep 2010 xxxxxxxxxxxxxx (The x's are just because
UKFDubstep xxxxxxxxxxxxxx I couldn't be bothered
xxxxxxxxxxxxxx to type in the track
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxx names.)
    Won't Go Quietly
Example (Roughly 13 tracks from the album)
    UKFDubstep 2010
    UKFDubstep xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
In Your Honor (Again how ever many tracks are on the album here)
    Foo Fighters
    UKFDubstep 2010
UKFDubstep (And here are the rest of the songs)
Now all UKFDubstep 2010 tracks have the same album artwork and I have ticked 'Yes' where it says in 'Get Info' do you want these to be a compilation.
So I can't think of anything left that I could possibly do, also it shows the 3 of the same album cover in album cover view on iTunes.
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated,
    Thankyou

It would if you had disk 1 of 3/ 2 of 3/ 3 of 3. For that I would expect 3 albums.
To tell the truth, I can't make much sense of all the xxxx's in your first post. Could you post a screenshot on a free hosting site like flickr, imageshack, or photobucket?

  • Is it possible to sort a 2CD compilation album where each CD has a different "album artist" together as one album in iTunes?

I have an album which I am trying to sort correctly in iTunes.
It has 2CDs of tracks by various artists, it is set up as a 'compilation' and I have 'album artist' set up.
As far as I can see all the settings are correct, however CD1 is a compilation of tracks remixed by "artist A" and CD2 is a compilation of tracks remixed by "artist B" therefore  becasue each disc has a different album artist, the album is split into two seperate albums on album view.
Is there any way to get this to display as one album?
The album is released as "Artist A" so for now I have set that name as the 'album artist' for CD2 as well to get round it but would ideally like to have the second CD labelled correctly with the second artist's information.
I suppose I could also use "Arist A / Artist B" for both CDs but would prefer not to do this as well so that it would be grouped with other (solo) albums from these artists.
    Cheers for any help!

Your options are to treat this as one collective album by the joint Album Artists, or as two separate albums by them as individuals, or I suppose you could duplicate the entire album and do both.

  • ITunes 7 has split my albums up into individual tracks in cover view!

In the two new views in itunes 7 many of my albums have been split up into individual tracks. Is there anything I can do to 'consolidate' them back?
Power Book   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Hi there, I have the same problem, Albums I've imported from CD and albums I've bought through itunes now display as separate tracks in both views with album art. Also in list view if I click on an album all its tracks are now not in the correct album order but mixed up, so if I use the album view im left with 10 album covers for the same album with 1 track per cover and in list view everything is all mixed up. I wish I'd never upgraded from itunes 6 as this is now a complete mess and almost unusable with 300 albums of music "WELL DONE APPLE" as a 12 year mac user Im starting to feel like im back using windows 3.1 again

  • In the itunes library, a single album appears to be split into two separate parts, how do i combine them?

my itunes library has several albums that are split into two parts. one contains half of the album's songs and the other the other half. how do i combine these so the album only appears once in it's entirety?

Generally setting a common Album Artist will fix things.

  • The Same Album is Split Into Two On My iPod

Okay this may be hard to explain but here it goes...
I bought a CD, and imported it onto my iTunes library. No big deal. It imported fine. Then I tried importing it onto my 4th Generation iPod Touch (32GB). The album has 10 tracks, and it was split into two on my iPod. One album has all tracks 1-10, while the other has tracks 2-10. But when I search up the song on my iPod (on the songs list), it only comes up as one. I tried deleted the album that has tracks 2-10, but when I do, the tracks 2-10 on the other album get deleted, so I'm only left with Track 1.
This is starting to get really confusing for me and I don't know what to do. In my iTunes library it comes up as one album, on iTunes when I look at my songs list it comes up as one album, and even on my actual iPod on the songs list, there's only 1 version of each song, but on the albums list, there's 2 versions of the same album.
Please help! Thanks so much !!

In iTunes on your computer right click on the songs and select Get Info and look at the sorting. From iTunes Help
Tips for using song and CD info to organize your music
You can edit information in the Info window to make it easier to find and sort items in your library. For example, you can:
Group individual movements on a classical CD into one work by indicating the name of the work (for example, “Piano concerto in A Minor, Op. 54”) in the Grouping field.
Group songs that are part of a compilation together in your library by clicking Details and selecting the checkbox next to “Album is a compilation of songs by various artists”.
Identify the individual artists on a tribute album in the Artist field, and type “various” in the Album Artist field.
Create your own genre category by clicking Details and typing the category in the Genre field.
Change the order in which tracks on a CD play by changing the numbers in the Track fields.
Create a Smart Playlist that includes only songs that are just the right speed for your workout by typing the number of beats per minute in the BPM field. For instructions, see Create a Smart Playlist.
Identify a movie as a music video (click the Options button, and choose Music Video from the Media Kind pop-up menu).
Identify an item that you imported from a CD as an audiobook, so it appears under Audiobooks instead of Music (click the Options button and choose Audiobook from the Media Kind pop-up menu). If you do this, iTunes also remembers your place in the audiobook.
Enter custom sorting criteria for an item. Select the item, choose File > Get Info, click Sorting, and enter the custom text.

  • Album artwork isn't showing up in album view (where all the albums are) but IS showing up when you drill into the specific album.

The album artwork isn't showing up in the album view where all the different albums are shown but when you drill into the specific album then it is shown.  This seems to be a recent problem as it wasn't happening in the past.

Nope, that doesn't work.  First, I manually manage the music, but even deleting and using auto-fill, doesn't put all the album art in place even though it is all on the songs in iTunes.  Even copying and pasting from iTunes to the iPhone does not get the artwork to show up, despite the fact it shows up in "Info" on the iPhone in iTunes.  Plus there seems no rhymn nor reason as to the missing artwork, some ripped songs have it, some purchased songs do not. Bizarre!  But I've run across this problem every since time I've restored an iPhone and had to redo the music separately, however, previously I could manually drop and drag the song over after the auto-fill to replace (after deleting on the iPhone) and the artwork would show up.  Not this time however.  This is one of those details I find extremely annoying!
