Album to library?

Using iPhoto 8.1 on an iMac with 10.6.8. I use it routinely, and it works great. In one of my libraries, I've made an album. How do I take just that album and make an independent library out of it? Yes, I could just export all the photos, and reimport them in a new library, but when I do that, the "description" text that I've painstakingly added to each of the album photos doesn't port with the photos. I'd like the new library that I create from the album to include those descriptions. How do I do that??

OK, I figured it out. It's pretty easy. I just have to take my original album of 50 photos, and using that, make them into 3 albums of 20, 20, and 10 photos -- album1, album2, and album3. Then I make a new library, and use free iPhoto Library Manager to drop each of those 3 albums into it. They appear as individual "Events".  Then I go into that library, in "Photos", and drag all the photos into the same "Event", just to clean things up. Finally, I remove those three albums. Presto. A new library containing those 50 photos in one event.

I need to uninstall downloaded version of Elements 12 on a computer, then install Elements 12 on the same computer directly from a disk. Elements 11 was previously used on same computer, and the albums and library had been moved to the first installation of 12, which I am removing. How do I correctly unstall the old Elements 12, and install the new elements 12 from disk, and retain all albums and libraries from the old Elements 12?

You're welcome.  It was not an answer, it was a question, and it could lead to being helpful if you explain why you think you need to uninstall.
As far as uninstalling goes, you will uninstall it like you do for any program, which depends on what kind of operating system you have.  If you wish to retain albums and whatnot, maybe the following link can provide some guidance.

  • How to find out in which albums a library photo is represented

Basically my problem is stated in the question, I'm trying to find out in which albums certain library/event photo's are represented. Since I'm moving from albums to events this would be a great help in naming the events.
    Thanks,

There is currently now way in iPhoto to do this.
iPhoto Menu -> Povide iPhoto Feedback.

What do you mean three email addresses ago? Do you mean that you've had three accounts in the store with three separate email addresses? Purchases must be authorized according the account details under which they were purchased. You can Get Info on the tracks and see the account name they were purchased with. Also...a missing shared folder can prevent authorization. See here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1277

  • Delete iPhoto Album/iPhoto Library

In my home Picture Folder I have
    A's iphoto Album
    iPhoto Library
    iPhoto Library_2
    The third being the (default)
I know that is in the other two and have no use for them.
Can I safely delete the other two?

I have no idea what "an iphoto Album" is
If you have multiple iPhoto libraries and you are SURE that you do not want one or more of them you cna simply drag the one you are SURE you do not want to the trash - probably a good idea to test iPhoto prior to emptying the trash to avoid human errors

  • Tracks missing from albums in library

i have tried importing ensuring all artist info is the same, still i miss certian tracks from the album.itunes reads it as an album but when imported i have the odd track missing, help help..please

Generally all you need to do is fill in an appropriate Album Artist. For more details see my article on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topic One album, too many covers.
Sorting on the album column may help to reveal the missing tracks which could be sorted elsewhere in the library and so only appear to be missing.

  • Can't add four specific albums to library off of external hard drive

For some reason after my last sync quite a few songs on my iPod were no longer playing. It would show that they were on the iPod, but they would not play and would simply skip straight to the next song even if the iPod was paused when that song was on. I found that if I deleted the songs from my iTunes and then synced my iPod again after putting them back in the library it would solve the problem. I use an external hard drive to contain my iTunes library, and there is one folder on it that contains four music albums in their own folders, respectively. Songs from one of the albums in the previously mentioned folders were not playing, so I deleted that album. However, when I tried to put it back in my library it did not work. I've tried doing the 'Add folder to library...' and the 'add file to library...' as well as moving the folder onto my computer's hard drive, making a copy of the files, and moving the files around on the external hard drive. Any suggestions on why this is happening only to this one folder and these four albums, and if so, how to fix it? I am currently running iTunes 11.1.3.8 on Windows 8. Thank you.

I'm not certain, but perhaps this user tip would help:
Repair security permissions for iTunes for Windows.
Alternatively have you checked the drive for errors? Will the tracks play in Windows Media Player or MediaMonkey?

  • Can't see albums or library in iPhoto6

I only see one screen in iPhoto 6 with photos I just uploaded and can't see any of my albums or my library - I don't see my photos in "Pictures" on my laptop either. I see my old albums when I select "share" but can't see any pictures. I think I changed something by accident. Can you help me?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. May be a damage library database file. Rebuild the library as follows: delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder. Select the first three options. If that doesn't resurrect the library post back and well try a couple of other fixes. Also check the tip at the end of my signature. It can help recover from similar damaged database file problems.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Albums in Library not on iCloud

I just signed up for Match.  I have 55 albums in my iTunes Library, but only 25 show up as available on my devices.  What can I do to make the other 30 albums available on iCloud?

Has iTunes Match finished it's initial scan, match and uploade? If not, then all your albums won't be available on your iDevices yet.
Look in the left hand column of iTunes and see if you have an entry called "iTunes Match" in the Store area. If you do does it have a spinning circle next to it? This means iTM isn't done with the initial scan yet and it is probably uploading tracks.
So turn off iTM on your iDevices and let iTunes finish doing what it is doing. Once it is finished turn on iTM again on your devices.

  • Albums in library can not be copied into a playlist

    Hi Apple Forum,
Have setup many albums in the library of iTunes.
Have also setup a "albums" playlist. Use this playlist to sync with my iPod.
Something has happened and now I can not copy any albums to the "albums" playlist. The only playlist that it will copy is to DJ. Can someone tell me what has gone wrong?
    Thanks,
    Chris

    problem solved....
instead of using the "create playlist" under the "files" tools, I used the "+" icon at the bottom left-hand corner.
    for some reason that works.

  • Albums in library have duplicated songs.  How do I remove duplicated songs?

The albums in my library now have duplicated songs.  I do not want to sync my itunes form my computer to the IPod classis but do not want duplicated songs.  Is there a way to do this without having to manually delete the duplicated songs?

Apple's official advice on duplicates is here Find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls such as lost ratings and playlist membership, or that sometimes the same file can be represented by multiple entries in the library and that deleting one and recycling the file will break the other.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created.  If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin.
Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background, this post for detailed instructions, and please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.
(If you don't see the menu bar press ALT to show it temporarily or CTRL+B to keep it displayed.)
The most recent version of the script can tidy dead links as long as there is at least one live duplicate to merge stats and playlist membership to and should cope sensibly when the same file has been added via multiple paths.

  • Removing Photos Not Used in Albums from Library

Is there a way to filter out the pictures (within the Library) not being used in any of the albums and mark them for deletion? Is this something that either iPhote 6 or that another application might address?

    Hi dudestar,
Make a smart album whose conditions are
    "album" "is not" "any"
this should give you a smart album of all unassigned images.
You can then use Command Option Delete to delete them from that folder and the library. Then you must empty iPhoto's trash and they will be deleted from the hard drive.

  • Moving album from library onto Ipod

    Hi,
I just downloaded an album from a CD into my music library. Now I want to move it onto my Ipod. *I don't want to use SYNCH* because I have music on the Ipod that is not in my library and my understanding is that this will erase the music from the Ipod that is not also in the library. In past versions of Itunes, I always used to just grab the album with a the mouse and pull it over to to the left of the screen (where the Ipod is listed as the music device when it is attached to the computer) and just drop it into the Ipod by releasing the mouse with the cursor over it. But on this version of Itunes, that does not seem to work. Did they change Itunes? Is ther any way to do this on the current version? If not, should I donwload an older version of Itunes? Where can I get that and what is the version called?
    Thank you.
    Dan

    Hi,
Glad someone else has noticed this problem (and it IS a problem).
I think it's been happening ever since they brought in iTunes version 9, as far as I can remember it worked perfectly well before that.
I like to manage my songs manually, and it was just so much easier to drag an album image with the cursor to my ipod. Now it will only let me grab every 6th or 7th album cover, or so, which is useless, as far as I'm concerned!
I've put in a request to Apple to change this back to the way it was, but if nobody is going to complain, apart from me, then I don't suppose it will get done.
Funnily enough, the last time I added a CD, a couple of days ago, it actually worked like it used to. I could actually flick through the artwork in cover flow without it jumping about 6 or 7 covers, and it actually let me grab at each albums artwork, which meant I could add what album I liked without having to highlight each song individually before dragging them to my ipod.
I don't know why it did this, as it hasn't worked properly since the last version of iTunes 8. It's back to it's _+"bad old self"+_ today, I've noticed!
    I haven't got a clue what's going on!
Maybe it is supposed to work as it did, but there is now a "glitch" in the software that prevents it from doing so (although they've updated iTunes 9 a few times now, and it hasn't "repaired" it).
There is one way around this, I have just found out today. If you go to the menu, and click on "view", then change the setting from *"cover flow"*, to "list", then look below that you'll see a *"show artwork column"* setting.
If you click on that, the artwork for each album is shown in a column to the left of the list. From what I've seen, you can then still drag each album from the cover art to your ipod, and it takes all the songs in the album, rather than having to highlight them all individually.
It's not really a fix, as I would like, but it does mean less hassle when trying to transfer songs!

  • IPhoto 9.5.1 is not showing old albums in library on MacBook Pro

My iPhoto version recently upgraded to version 9.5.1. After this upgrade, my older albums are not showing in iPhoto. Has anyone else experienced this?
Any help will be most appreciated.

. Is there a way to go back to the old version of iPhoto?
That is difficult, since you upgraded the library to iPhoto 9.5.1.
I think my issue is that it not recognizing any of my old photos in my library.
Is your library completely empty?  Then you are probably now viewing a new library and not your old library. Which version of iPhoto did you upgrade from?  And where is your old library stored? On your internal drive or an external drive?
If you upgraded from iPhoto '08, you need to run the iPhoto Library Upgrader, before you can open the library in iPhoto 9.5.1., see:  iPhoto '11: About the Library Upgrader

  • Lost all photos/albums from library after upgrade to 5.0.2

After auto-updating iPhoto to version 5.0.2, I no longer have any photos or albums in my iPhoto library. Where did they go? I can't even find specific titles using a search of the hard drive. What can I do to get them back?
    -Mike

    Mike,
iPhoto 5 now stores the Album information in a data xml file. The Albums folder within the iPhoto Library folder is no longer used. At some point, usually after a rebuild, you will no longer have that folder in the Finder.
If you need to access photos from an album it is very difficult for a third party application to navigate the iPhoto Library in order to find the photo you need. You will have to know the date of import in order to find the photo.
There are some third party applications that can read the xml file and can navigate the iPhoto library and show you the Albums. Hopefully more applications will be revised to read this file.
Until then you will have to Share/Export the photos to the desktop. You can then navigate to the desktop to use the photos (example: web uploading from online photo site)
If your application supports drag and drop, you can drag the photo from an open iPhoto Library window into your application.
For email you can also use the email icon within iPhoto to open a message with the highlighted photo attached.
You can also use spotlight to find images in an Album...
This is what I have done using Spotlight to find my images that are in iPhoto albums without opening iPhoto..
In iPhoto, select the album, then select all, go to Photos/batch change.
Change the comments to text. In the text field I put the name of the Album.
    Do this for each album.
    Close iPhoto.
Open Spotlight and put in the name of the Album ( you have to remember the names of the albums or have then written down)
In the spotlight search results. click on "show all"
Under "Images" click on the "xx more" to show all the images in the album.
Make sure you have it in icon view, the icon view box is the last one on the blue images line.
Now you can control click on the image to "reveal in finder", open in iPhoto or Mail, etc.
I am not sure if this is going to make you happy and it is a little more work, but you can find images in albums and even view them in a slideshow (by clicking the play arrow at the end of the Images highlighted blue line) using Spotlight, all without opening iPhoto.
Two Apple kbs for you to read
Don't tamper with files in the iPhoto library folder
    About the iPhoto Library folder
As to why they don't show up in the source column of iPhoto after the rebuild, I don't know why. Do all your images show up when you open iPhoto?
Is there anything listed in the source column other than "library"?
Here is another post with the same problem.
