Album tracks suddenly out of order

For some reason a few of my albums are out of order-- not considerably out of order, but in one of them the 4th and 6th songs show up 1st and 2nd, and in another the 2nd song shows up 9th.
BEFORE YOU ASK: No, shuffle is not on, and no, the track numbers in iTunes are not incorrect because I have triple-checked this (seems obvious) and the tracks on my nano USED to be in the right order, but now suddenly aren't (and only on these 2 albums, at least that I've noticed so far).
I tried deleting the songs off my nano and recopying them from iTunes (where again, they show up in the right order) but the nano put them in the wrong order again.
Simply resetting doesn't work.
Can anyone give me any ideas how I might fix this? Searched everywhere to no avail, thanks in advance---

As I said before, I tried deleting the songs off my nano and recopying them from iTunes (where again, they show up in the right order) but the nano put them in the wrong order again.
I also tried changing the album number and recopying them, but the same tracks are still in the same wrong order.
Any other advice?

  • My play list is suddenly out of order

I have playlists on my computer and like to listen to my songs in a particular order. For some reason, the songs in my favorite playlist are suddenly out of order (and some of the songs seem to be missing). It is going to take a lot of work to get the list back in the order I want it to be in and to transfer the missing songs from my purchased and album lists, since this list has hundreds of songs on it.
I have no idea what I did to make it randomly (at least it looks random--I can see no rhyme or reason to the new order) reorder my songs. Does anyone have any idea why it did this or how I can make it go back?
Looks like the last time itunes was updated on my computer was April 10, 2012.

To reply to my own post, I just discovered that it's alphabetized my playlist by album name. I'm not sure how this happened, but right clicking on the album collumn and unchecking the first box that was checked seemed to remove the entire album column from the display and now the playlist appears to be back in its original order.
Just in case anyone else has had the same problem.

  • One track played out of order

I've noticed this problem since one of the last updates: I have my settings on shuffle by album and the albums normally play from 1 to the end. However, certain albums skip a track in the middle and play it last. ex. 1-4, 6-10, 5 (My Morning Jacket, Z) It doesn't do this with every album, but quite a few. I've messed with the settings and album info, but can't find anything that would explain why it does this. And it does it on both my mac and PC...
    I'd appreciate any suggestions!

Alright- figured it out.  Each out of order track had an "album artist" filled in (a field under artist when you click "Get info) and the others just just had "artist" filled in.  By filling in an "album artist" on all the tracks in addition to the already filled in "artist" field, I got them to arrange themselves properly in the album order.  I assume blanking out the "album artist" field on the tracks that had it also might have worked.  I think the key is making sure all the meta-data is exactly the same.
Just posting this for the sake of anyone googling for answers to the same issue.

  • Track Listings Out of Order

Albums I've imported to iTunes the tracks are displayed out of order. I've looked at the view options, sorting and the shuffle isn't on.

I got it. Clicking on the heading straightened it out.

  • IPad Album songs scramble out of order on IOS7

I just loaded IOS7 on my iPad.  Now when I open iTunes and select "Albums", all the songs are scrambled out of order.  When I select "Artists" and view each album, the songs are back in correct order.  Please help...

I am having this same problem.

  • Submitted Podcast, but tracks are out of order

I recently submitted a Podcast and it was approved by Apple, but the page brings up the tracks in a random order. In my RSS feed, the tracks are listed in the correct sequence, however most have identical creation dates.
Does iTunes sort the tracks by Creation Date? If so, I have to change these in my RSS file, do I need to resubmit or will iTunes automatically point to the updated feed link?
    Thanks!!

I updated my RSS feed link and changed the creation times (track 1 Thu, 01 Oct 2009 13:45:13GMT. Track 2 Thu, 01 Oct 2009 13:55:13GMT, etc) However now all the tracks are listed in reverse order (most current creation date first). I find this to be an enormous inconvenience and am still at a loss as to why iTunes can't display the tracks in the order they're listed in the RSS feed, regardless of creation date.
Any assistance on how iTunes does its initial track sorting would be greatly appreciated.

  • I can't get album tracks in the correct order

    Hello
The tracks in my 'favourite worst nightmare' album by arctic monkeys are in the wrong order and i can't fix it. All my other albums are fine.
The tracks are all in the correct order in windows explorer, but in itunes, they are listed 4,5,2,3,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,1
They are all by same artist, same year, same album, same genre.
When i search for the album and get it on its own, i am able to put it in correct order, but as soon as i cancel the search and view the full library, the songs go back into this dodgy order.
    Any suggestions ?
    thanks

I am having a similar problem with my Goo Goo Dolls album, Let Love In - I've had it for months and it has been fine but the other day it started to lose the correct order - it started with only one song but then it spread and it was so random I couldn't listen to the album (I am very particular about the order of albums) - Now it seems to only be the first song that is out of place, it is at the end BUT I have no control over changing the order anymore, something that has changed because I used to be able to do that - I haven't updated because of all the trouble everyone had with 7.2 so I have 7.1.1.5 - I HOPE that someone can help me here because I can't listen to that album anymore and I Love the Goo Goo Dolls...

  • Album tracks playing in random order

I downloaded an album from iTunes today and when I went to play it, it's shuffling. I haven't asked it to. It's a Richard Hawley album. That guy doesn't even let you speak at his gigs. He'd go mental if he knew. I have checked on the "Get Info" tab, and each track is correctly listed in order. So why won't they play in order? Any ideas? Thanks

If the shuffle symbol is lit up blue then click again to turn it grey and turn off shuffle.
Otherwise what order are the tracks playing in? Is it consistent?

  • IPhone 5s album covers are out of order, why?

When I sync my iPhone 5s, that album covers are not properly synced with the corresponding song/artist. Is it a flaw with the newest (most recent) update? How can I fix it?

Have you checked to make sure they have the correct track number (in "Get Info")?

  • Is there a way to reorganize out-of-order tracks in iTunes 11?

    Hello all--
In iTunes 10, if an album appeared with the track numbers out of order, I could just click on the track number tab within each individual album and the tracks would be resorted by track number. In iTunes 11, I can't find a way to do the same thing. For example, I imported an album and now it starts out with track 4, then goes to 15, etc., but can't get them to sort sequentially. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I tried looking at one out-of-order album in the "songs" view, based on a similar question, but every time I try to search for the album under "songs" iTunes shows the result under "albums".

here is a link to macosxhints.com that tells you how to output all of your feed URLs to a terminal window. from there you can cut and paste them into your new feed reader of choice...

and if you are in the marked for a new reader may i suggest David Watanabe's excellent NewsFire. he had just recently made it totally free as a gift to the macintosh community.

  • Do out of order iTunes 11 tracks sync to iPod?

The upgrade to iTunes 11 caused various albums to show out of order track listsings in expanded view.  We haven't re-synced our iPod to iTunes since the update for fear that this mis-ordering will be brought over to the iPod.
Will the new track ordering move to the iPod on sync?
Is there any way to force the old ordering?
We've looked at a lot of solutions on line, none have helped, they're for previous versions.  We see a correlation between the albums we ripped from CD and the ones that are mis-ordered.
    All help appreciated!!

I just reformatted the files to MP3 and it took care the problem.

  • Albums out of order and duplicated after using Match

I finished Matching all of my tracks, and endbled iTunes Match on my Desktop, Laptop, and iPhone. My Mac laptop (where I originally enabled and purchased Match) shows my library as I want it-- everything in order correctly and all of the correct album art.
My desktop shows everything almost correctly. There are a few albums split into multiple (sometimes 7-10) parts, and album art is missing.
My iPhone (which has no local stored music right now) shows everything almost correctly. Some of the split albums that showed incorrectly on the desktop are in 2 parts instead of 10. Plus, some of the albums are completely out of order and duplicated in the album list view. I attached a screenshot below.
The "duplicated" albums seem to be alphabetically wrong because one of the tracks (When Love Takes Over, David Guetta) starts with a W. The problem is, the album for that track IS correctly set, and the artist and album artist are both David Guetta. Changing the album (which displays correctly in iTunes on my Mac, and even on my Windows Desktop) to a complilation does nothing.
    How can I fix this?
(P.S. I have an iPhone 4S, Macbook Pro, and Windows desktop, all running the latest iTunes. I have only 293 songs, so I do not have a large library)

I ended up fixing my issue. The problem was the fact that some of the songs in an album were marked as part of a compilation, but some were not. iTunes seems to be less strict about grouping things in albums, so I never really noticed it.
However, this, combined with the fact that I could not update the metadata after the song is added to iCloud resulted in me changing the metadata on the computer, only to have it reset when I updated Match. I solved the problem by deleted everything from iCloud and rematching it, but only after I had corrected the compilation issue.
So, if you are havng the same issue, delete and readd everything to iCloud. I deleted everything from a second PC (that had no locally stored files) and then rematched from my laptop (where iTunes asked whether I wanted to add to iCloud, keep the song, or delete it. Choose "Add to iCloud" to rematch).

  • When sorting library as "Album by Artist," an album is out of order

This is really insignificant, I know, but it's bizarre, and I can't figure out why it's happening.
On one specific album, out of 1370, when I sort my library as Album by Artist or Album by Year, a single track is out of order. It is track 12, but appears at the end, after track 14. No matter what I put as the track number for that track, it will always be placed at the end of the album. It is not labeled as a different disc, album, or album artist, or as part of a compilation, nothing is misprinted, and near as I can tell, the track's info is completely consistent with the rest of the album. I even deleted all the track info for the whole album and manually filled it back in, and it still appears out of order. The tracks DO appear in the correct order when I only sort by album.
What exactly is going on here? Is this some sort of bug, or is there some data in the track I haven't thought of that will always cause it to appear at the end of the album when sorting as I do?
    Message was edited by: Rollersnake

OK, putting something in the Album Artist field for the album fixed it.
Near as I can tell, the track info for the album was inconsistent when I downloaded it, and though I deleted the "album artist" field for the whole album, more than once even, it somehow still registered as being different for that one track. Now when I delete the field for the whole album, it stays in order regardless of sorting method.

  • Rearranging Album Track Orders

    Hello,
This small problem may have a very simple answer, but I can't seem to figure it out...
Sometimes when I upload an album to ITunes, the track order gets mixed up. The program will still have the right track numbers attached to each track, but the playlist for that album is out of order (ex: Track 3 of the CD will be the first tract of the album playlist). I can't seem to put them back in the right order. Does anyone know how I could do this?
    Thanks!

If the songs are in a playlist open iTunes then click on the playlist. Click on the number column (extreme left). Click on the song you want to move and drag it to where you want it to be. Make sure neither Shuffle or Repeat are switched on in the playlist, either of those can prevent you reordering tracks.
If the tracks are out of order in your library view try this. Right click at the top of any column in your iTunes library and choose **Track Number** from the list. Click at the top of this new column to sort it and after that click on the Album column. If you like you can then click on Artist, it will continue to hold the track order as well. Afterwards anything you import should follow this arrangement Track Number>Album>Artist. Make sure the little triangle on the right side of the track number column header is pointing up. In that direction the column is sorted in Ascending order (lowest to highest).
