'Album view' for audiobooks?

I'm aware that normally iPods simply display all audiobook tracks in a single list (perhaps assuming that each audiobook will be one file - which is strange since even iTunes doesn't distribute them like that). However I've also read in a couple of threads here that the 1.0.3 firmware has changed the way that the Classic handles audiobooks. Does this include adding an album-type view e.g. if I get a Classic using 1.0.3 (either preloaded or after a quick firmware upgrade), will the audiobooks section list 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban', and then list the various chapter files once I open that book? Or is it still the old way of listing all audiobook files in a single list?
The reason I ask is that I have a few audiobooks on CD (I've already read up on how to convert them to the iPod's audiobook format) and if the Classic still uses the old method of listing all audiobook files in a huge list, I'll probably combine the tracks to one-track-per chapter (on the CD each disc is split up into tracks about a minute long to make finding your place easier).
PS: I can't simply load them and find out myself because I don't have a Classic yet - will probably be buying one next weekend

Does anyone know why Apple dropped the ability to see Audiobooks as an entry on the Genre list where, in effect, you got a Author/Title/Part path? Has anyone heard of a "fix" being in the works?
While it's annoying to have to scroll through all the "tracks" to get to the book I want, it's made using the iPod for courseware almost impossible since a course's lecture tracks don't have the course title -- just "Lect 01 - xxxxx". So, now the course tracks are all intermingled (i.e., all Lect 01's , 02's, etc.).

  • View for Newly-Released TV Shows

    Hello,
It seems a very important view on the "TV Shows" tab has been removed in the past week.
There used to be a box about halfway down the page that showed the TV Episodes which had just been released.
For example, if a new episode of Mad Men came on TV on Sunday, then this episode would show up in this box around 1AM on Monday morning.
What happened to this box? It mysteriously disappeared when the formatting changes for the new rental mechanism came earlier this week. I have stopped using iTunes and I will not use it again until there is a way to have the same view. Amazon On Demand now has a much better way of seeing which episodes (of all genres) have just became available.
    Thanks for your help,
    -Svourdroculed.

Are you certain that you're using Album View for your movies, and not Coverflow?
EDIT: Nevermind, I see what you're talking about (had to switch the view of my own movies to see). I don't know if there's a workaround for this. You might want to submit feedback about the different views.

    I agree.
It was very useful to reduce everything to small and quickly scan down looking for missing artwork.
Particularly useful when I only connect to the machine with iTunes via screen sharing, so everything can be a bit slower to scroll through at times.
In fact, itunes 11 when used purely as a server for Apple TV etc is a downgrade in usability IMO, as they've got rid of some of the useful views that helped me manage my library remotely.

    Short answer:
Click Hide Song(s), it is what you wanted to do...
    Long answer:
iTunes in the Cloud is a feature of your iTunes store account that allows you to redownload or stream your past purchases. When you delete a purchased track that is downloaded to your computer (like the first one shown here) you are asked if you also want to hide the song from iCloud. This would remove it from the computer and also stop it showing up with the iCloud symbol as the other tracks from that album (which are not downloaded) do.
If a track shows with the cloud symbol you can play (stream) it by double-clicking the title, or click the cloud symbol to download a local copy to your library. If you try to delete one of these tracks you get a slightly different message confirming that you want to hide the track. Clicking hide will remove the listing from the library and any other device that shows your past purchases.
Should you want to retrieve any item hidden in this way at a later date use Store > View My Account > iTunes in the Cloud > Hidden Purchases > Manage.
To hide all your previous purchases that are not downloaded to your computer use Edit > Preferences > Store and untick Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases.

  • Show or view multiple album art for one song on iPhone 4?

Is it possible to show or view multiple album artwork for one song on an iPhone 4, especially on the now playing screen? I figured since iTunes has this feature then the iPhone should too. Can I download an app that does this? I've searched but couldn't find any, maybe I'm using other keywords. Could anyone point me in the right direction with this?

Darn. I hope an app is designed to be able to do this soon. From what I've seen this feature isn't really in demand so it could take a while. Thanks for replying.

  • Album list view for playlists

When I select Music (under Library) and select the Grid view, then select Artists, then double click on an artist I am presented with a list view grouped by album with album artwork on the left. I would like to get the same view for a selected playlist, but I can only get that view for specific albums or artists within the playlist. What I want is to see that album list view for every artist, album and song in the playlist. Is this possible? If not, is there some way to submit a feature request? Thanks.

Erm - use the List view?

  • How to view long chapter titles without abbreviation for audiobooks in music app?

Many of the names of the chapters of the audiobooks I listen to in the music app are extremely long (i.e., more than 22 characters).  However, I cannot find a way to display more than the first ~22 characters.
When I start playing an audiobook, I click the little button in the upper right corner of the screen.  This displays all of the chapter titles.  However, it displays only one line per title, and if the title is longer than ~22 characters, it abbreviates with an ellipsis.  Clicking on the title just causes it to play.  Side scrolling doesn't seem to be available.  I can find no way to display the whole title.  This is extremely frustrating, because I like to know what I'm listening to, and I sometimes like to be able to choose a chapter based on the title.
Is it possible to display long chapter titles for audiobooks on iOS, or is this a missing feature that I need to ask Apple to incorporate into a future iOS build?
PS It would also be nice if the app displayed the chapter titles on the playback screen (i.e., on the screen one sees without having to click the button in the upper right hand corner). I'll suggest this to Apple as well.  If others do the same, athttp://www.apple.com/feedback/ perhaps they'll listen.
PPS It would also be nice if audiobooks could be displayed by author, the way music can be displayed by artist, on iOS.  Another piece of feedback I'll be giving Apple.  Please do the same if you'd also like this feature.

Submit your feedback directly to Apple using the appropriate link on the Feedback page:

  • Just updated to itunes 12.1.0.71 - big problem - can no longer access the legacy "Get Info" where you could change multiple files, easily add artwork, add album name for TV show, and much more. In previous iTunes 12 you'd right click

Just updated to itunes 12.1.0.71 - big problem - can no longer access the legacy "Get Info" where you could change multiple files, easily add artwork, add album name for TV show, and much more. In previous iTunes 12 you'd right click and hold shift key and be able to get to it. Anyone figured this out?

The "legacy" metadata editors, for which there was a "back door" in iTunes 12.0, have gone from 12.1.  However, the revised editors in 12.1 provide access to (almost) all the metadata elements that were available in iTunes 11, albeit in a different layout and with some additional constraints based on media kind.  Some users have / will have an issue with the statement that "Get Info has been completely redesigned in iTunes 12 to focus your attention only on what’s necessary for the selected item" since that removes some metadata elements that people may have been using in creative ways.  iTunes 12.1 basically gives you access to the fields that Apple think are necessary ... .  Some of the things that have been excluded by this rule:
track and disc number fields for video media kinds
show and episode fields for music
description tab for audiobooks made up of more than one file
Obviously the first two examples can be regarded as "overloading" the metadata elements - i.e., using them in ways that the designers didn't intend - but given that some users do find valid cases for this it's a shame that they've been deprecated in the new UI.  There are couple of workarounds:
in songs view (or any of the other columnar views), you can still select any fields to display, independent of media kind, and these can be edited (though only one at a time) by double-clicking in the relevant "cell"
you can (temporarily) change the media kind of an item (or group of items) to get access to metadata elements that would otherwise be inaccessible.
It may be worth submitting an issue via https://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html - I can't see it as a huge development task to have a user preference to switch between "show all fields" and "filter fields based on media kind".
One other oddity/irritation is that some of the tabs don't, by default, show all the available fields - you need to scroll up/down to access them or to expand the window by dragging on one of its corners.  Fortunately, the latter seems to be persistent - once you've done this to make all the fields visible the editor will open at the same (larger) size when opened again.

  • Why is Remote app album view different than iTunes?

I use the Remote app on my iPad to control the streaming of my PC's iTunes music library to my stereo.  I like the Album view because I can see most of the album covers. In iTunes 11.1 on my PC, album view displays the albums alphabetically by artist.  i.e. all Beatles albums are listed before any Rolling Stones albums.  But when viewing the same library on my iPad using the Remote app, the albums are listed alphabetically by album title, not by artist.  So each artist's albums are scattered all over.  I don't know about you, but when I'm looking for an album to play, I think about artists, not titles of albums.  But there doesn't seem to be any way to change the way the Remote app orders albums.  Am I missing something?  Is there any way to configure the Remote app to display albums in artist order?

Hi go the first page of the Remote, the one which shows your shared libraries.
Click Settings, and then Sort by Artist tab,
    Hope that helps!

  • ITunes album view not working and no album art?

    Hi all -
Bought a 64GB iPhone 5 and uploaded my music via my desktop - all seems to have run fine, except that album artwork isn't showing for many of them, even when I select the option "View artwork".
I've read on another thread that ID3 tags of 2.3 or lower are not supported, but find it hard to accept there's no compatibility here - so am presuming user error rather than Apple trying to force users to manually update all their albums (I have 57GB of music - don't want to update album art on everything!)
Also, I've just downloaded and installed iTunes on my laptop, and connected the iPhone to laptop. However, the album view options aren't working. All songs are simply listed by album name, but none of the column listing features work either (ie, sort by name, genre, etc).
I presumed iTunes had crashed, but restarting the laptop and the same happens. Am on latest software for iTunes and iOS 6.
One more curiosity - how do I download my music from the iPhone to the desktop? I had presumed it would do this automatically (ie, into the iTunes media folder) but so far nothing.
Or is it simply the case that iTunes is preparing to download all music into the desktop, hence why it's not working properly? Simply because there's no notice of anything happening.
Apologies for any newbie questions - found myself using the iPad quite a lot for apps, but never for music as it was only the 16GB version, so have been sold into joining the Apple walled garden. Would be nice to get these issues sorted out, though.

    Hi David
Yes, I found the importer now. I also fixed my problem, but with 'brute force':
For each of the folders not being indexed, including the ~/Library/Mail folder, I turned on Privacy in the Spotlight System Prefs and then turned it off again. This seems to have fixed things. I did this for some old document folders too and that also seems to have worked.
So far so good. thanks again. For now I'm marking this as solved.

  • In Album View Same Album Art Shows On Mulitiple Albums

    Hi,
When I view my music collection in "album" view in itunes 11 many of the albums I have are using the same cover art, ie the album art from a single album is being incorrectly repeated across multiple albums.
This is not the case for all my albums as some have the correct album art showing.
In cases of albums were the incorrect artowrk shows in "album" view if I then go into "song" view and select the first song in the album and go into "get info" and then "Artwork" I can see that the incorrect album cover is showing.  And this is the album art that is also used in the album view in itunes.
However, if I look at the second, or sometimes the third song in the album in "get info" "artwork" the correct artwork is actually showing.
So it looks like somehow itunes has taken one randon album cover and applied it to the first song of many of my albums, but left the correct artwork for the remaining songs of an album.
So the correct artwork is still "there" but it is only applied to the second and following songs of an album.
I have hundreds of albums in tiunes and am hoping for a slick way to fix this.  As slick as Apples advertising.  I would prefer not to have to have to spend a weekend moving files around so simple is good.
I have tried to delete all the cover art files and the get artwork again but same thing happens.
    May thanks in advance.

    Thanks for you help turingtest2.
I have searced for that file and I get it twice in the same folder.  one of the files has a date stamp appended to it 2013-01-25 (todays date).
I copied both files to another folder and moved the album artwork folder to the same folder.
I then restarted itunes.  I did not have to request any artwork and the original artwork was still there (incorrectly).  It did not seem like anything was downloaded as itunes opened quick and when i selected album view it went to there without delay automatically with the artwork there.
The album artwork folder was recreated in the itunes folder.
I did a search for the *.itc files and it seems the old moved album artwork folder contained may more *.itc files than were recreated in "recreated" album artwork folder.  Not sure if that means anything.
    Hmmm.

How do I get all the songs from an album to show in the album view?  Currently, if an album lists the artist plus a guest artist, those are shown separately and appear to be two different albums on my iPod.  How do I get all the songs on that album together on my iPod?  If the album is a collaboration wtih many artists, each sond may appear as a separate album.

I used to have this problem.
First, you need to go back on iTunes
you need to go to each of the songs that are having this problem
Click the album so all the songs drop down
Right click the songs that have this problem
    Click ' Get info '
Click the tab that says " info '
The box that says ' album artist ' should probably be empty (correct me if I'm wrong)
Click it and type the artist of the entire album, NOT the songs guest artist
    as such,
    ARTIST
    JAY-Z Feat. Justin Timberlake
    ALBUM ARTIST
    JAY-Z
These should be separate for each artist
If you write the same album artists for each song by that artist, all the songs should be on 1 album

  • Is there a way to browse all "poster frames"/"album artwork" for TV Shows?

    Here's the scenario...
I have a LOT of old cartoon shows in my iTunes collection, and I have them tagged and sorted as "TV Shows". Unfortunately, when browsing the collection using "Album View", iTunes only shows me ONE poster frame for the entire season.
This might be fine for some people, but not for me with regards to my collection of old cartoons, because I want each individual show to have its own poster frame that shows the title of that particular episode.
Yes, I know I can do that by playing the clip, stopping at it the title frame, right-clicking and selecting "Set Poster Frame".
That's not the issue though. The issue is that I (currently) have more than 2,000 shows in my collection and it understandably takes a long time to manually set the poster-frames for all of them. So I do a whole bunch every so often when I have the time to do so, and then wait a long time before I get round to doing some more.
Getting on to what the actual issue is though, it's that when using the "Album View" I cannot see the individual per-episode poster-frames of all my separate shows, and so I cannot see what I have artworked so far and what I have not.
So what I'm asking really is, does anyone know of any alternative ways (3rd-party apps) to at least VIEW (in some kind of "browse" mode), if not edit, individual TV Shows poster frames?
By the way, I know that converting the TV Shows to Movies will show me individual poster-frames, but that will kill all the hard work I've put into tagging the shows names, episodes, seasons, etc.
If I'm not making sense here, ask me for clarification on anything.
I'm using the latest versions of iTunes, and the Mac OS, on Intel, etc.

You won't be able to have a page showing 24 charts per host.
I really think that it is a bad idea to create a group per host, just to have the ability to add many charts.
The maintenance effort will be a big penalty.
    Regards
    Rob

  • Can you sort albums by release date, rather than year, in album view?

I love the new album view in iTunes 11, but the only problem I have with it is sometimes albums are in the wrong order.
For example, last year Green Day released a trilogy of albums called ¡Uno!, ¡Dos! and ¡Tré! but since they were released in the same year, they're ordered as ¡Dos!, ¡Tré, ¡Uno! when sorted by artist and then year which really doesn't sit right with me.
In short, the sorting options for albums view are very limited, is there any way to extend them?
Also I'm aware that I could, as a cheap fix, change the sorting in album to the release date backwards, but I'd rather not do that as it would make it a bit more troublesome for me to navigate my albums on my iPhone.
    Thanks!

I agree that Apple should improve the year field to be an actual date.
I am not 100% happy doing this, but when you have multiple albums from a single artist for the same release year, a temporary solution is to chage the album title by adding an outline type letter before album titles for that year, so that they appear in the correct order:
    David Bowie
    1977
    a. Low
    David Bowie
    1977
    b. "Heroes"
    etc
This could help in the short term until Apple changes that field.

  • How to show only complete albums in Albums view NOT singles?

I will try to explain this sa simple as I can:
    - In albums view I ONLY want my completed albums listed.
    - I tried to rename the album title of all my singles or songs with incomplete albums as "singles/incomplete albums" but they are still listed individually by artists under albums. So instead of one album names "singles.." there are hundreds with that name, just as before, one big hodgepodge of albums.
    - I just want all my full albums (500 or so) listed nice and neat NOT like 2000 albums listed.
    - To have my albums nice and sorted I have always had to make an individual playlist for eah album, under a folder called "albums". I figured by iTunes 11 I would be able to have only my full albums listed in one place AND be able to use the new slick looking interface.
    Thanks!

    - I tried to rename the album title of all my singles or songs with incomplete albums as "singles/incomplete albums"
Then you have already done the hard part.  Now, just make a smart playlist with the rule "Album" "does not contain" "incomplete".  Go into that smart playlist and switch to Album view.
