Albums and sub-albums

I would like to create an album ie: South Dakota and inside that heading I would like to list the places we have been ie: Mt. Rushmore, Spearfish Canyon, Reptile Gardens etc.
Can this be done? I tried to make sub-albums but did not see a way.
Thanks,
Sue

So it is better to set up everything in iPhoto first I take it.
I would thing so in order for you to know exactly which albums should be grouped together in an iWeb page. In iPhoto you can create a folder in the left hand pane and add all the albums that would related to that one, i.e. South Dakota. In that folder add all of the albums you would want to be on the SD page in iWeb.
To add new photos in a new photos page, i.e. the iWeb component of iPhoto's album, you would drag them into the photo's page for that album in iWeb. You can also add them to the iPhoto album so you're synced with iWeb.
It probably would help if you made a graphical layout of the site showing the subject pages (South Dakota) and then the various photo pages below it.
This screenshot below is what the iPhoto album page that I linked to earlier looks like in iWeb. The iPhoto Album page started out as a blank layout (not an album layout) and the two photo pages were created when I dragged the two albums from iPhoto onto it via the Media Browser:

  • IPhoto-creating albums and sub-albums

is it possible to create an album with sub albums?  For example, i travel to Italy and would like an album of italy but would like to organize specific tours into sub-albums.

You can NOT nest albums - read my reply
Folders hold albums and other folders - so you create an italy folder and put the spcific tour albums in it - you could have a Europe folder with Italy and other country folders in it and then albums in each - etc
Folders hold albums - albums can not hold anything except photos
Nothing in my reply said anything about putting albums in albums - you can not - it said you make folders and put albums in the folders - and you can put folders in folders
Make a Europe folder - drag the Italy album to it - then drag the Spain album to it - continue as you please

  • IPhoto - album and sub-album -

Is it possible in IPhoto to create and title a main album and have it followed by individual sum-albums? -  In other words somthing like this:
    ROSE (MAIN)
      RED  (SUB)
      YELLOW (SUB)
       PINK   (SUB)
Thank you all for your help -

If you mean the main library shows all photos and the sub libraries show a portion of the main library, that is what events are for.  You can also create or select alternate photo libraries by holding down the option key when launching iPhoto.  Also see the iPhoto Library Manager app.

  • IPhoto Albums and MobileMe Albums - Synchronization (Sync)

I am very interested in how the iPhoto and MobileMe operate together.
I like that if I publish an album to MobileMe, those photos are then kept in sync with that MobileMe album and vice versa. If a change is made to the photo in iPhoto, the same change takes place in MobileMe. If a change is made in MobileMe, that change is pushed to the copy in iPhoto. I like this!
But here is something I would like that I am having trouble accomplishing.
I want to create an iPhoto album (smart or otherwise) and publish it to MobileMe. I would then like any photos ADDED to that album to also be published the same MobileMe album. Can this be done?
Ideally, any photos also posted directly to the MobileMe album would be pushed back to the iPhoto album as well.

No. Instead of adding the photo to the album just drag it into the MMe gallery and it will update the online gallery.

  • Today as i selected an album to listen to on my Iphone 5, all the song in that album and other albums by the same artist skipped quickly across the screen and deleted everything by that artist.

The exact same thing happened again when i selected another artist to listen to. This hasn't happened before, and i'm now concerned to listen to music in my Iphone incase it deletes my music again.

I've tried to ad the songs like i did before on my pc, dragging them over to my playlist or library. Since I live in Norway, I have some difficulties with transferring to english, so it be some bad spelling.
On the music that I can't get to my itunes, is a "mp3 - lyd" which in norwegian is a the same standard mp3 format. All of the files is in this format, even those that I'm able to transfer to itunes. Which is an album by an single artist.
I know that itunes does not support all formats, which is why I always make sure that all of my music has the same format.
So I will try to explain once more. Earlier today, I downloaded some new music, both albums and singles. And it's the singles I have difficulties to transfer to itunes. Neither dragging them nor by clicking "import/add" songs to library works. What happens when I try to do this, is that I get that circle thingy,(the circle who comes when the computer is working), and when it disappers, nothing happens and no files(of the singles) is transfered. And I'm going crazy, because I thought that I could do this without help, and noe I'm sitting here like a questionmark, and don't understand what I'm doing wrong.
And, first of all, thank you so much for your time, and your links Limnos. Even though they were'nt the answers for my problem, thank you:) and I hope that you with the information above, may have an answer for me, or that someone else has.

  • Updating sync between iphoto album and mobileme  album

I have created a 'mobileme album' from an album in iphoto. However when i add a new photo to the 'iphoto album' it does automatically sync into the 'mobileme album'. Should this happen or do i need to recreate the mobileme album every time?

Welcome to the Apple user discussion forums
However when i add a new photo to the 'iphoto album' it does automatically sync into the 'mobileme album'. Should this happen or do i need to recreate the mobileme album every time?
    Neither
Just drag the new photo(s) to the MobileMe gallery in the source pane on the left under MobileMe galleries (and to the original album too as a backup) it will update automatically - do not make additional changes while it is updating - this may cause problems and duplications
MobileMe is updated when- and only when - you change the gallery in the MobileMe gallery section of your source pane.

  • HT1711 I bought an album and the "album only" is malfunctioning. Is it possible to just get that track fixed?

I bought the Mutemath Armistice (Live) album and the only song that messed up, is Burden, which is an album only track. I was wondering if there was some way to fix the track so I can be a happy customer. Thanks.

  • [Your Music] Save artist including all albums and future albums

There should be a quick and easy way to add an artist to your collection completely—not just all their albums now, but the albums they release in the future. Then when you are browsing through Your Music later you'll discover new things from your favourite artists.

I'm new to spotify and after seeing I can add my own music, was about to subscribe. However I tested it for a bit first and was dismayed to see there's no option to add everything from an artist to my music (neither streaming nor locally). Just to clarify, it would be nice for me because I want to have all the music I like on my phone, using a big SD card, and play it all together randomly like a radio station with only artists that I like. And since I've never used spotify for real before, it would be horrible to add album by album. I just want to listen to the few artists I like, everything they have old and new as gets released! Spotify already lets me add my own music for the ones not available, save locally, create playlists and get notified about new releases. The only thing that's missing is a way to add everything from an artist.

  • Ios - 8 where are the 'camera roll' and 'photostream' albums?

I see the ios8 had done away with the "camera roll" and "photostream" albums and replace them with a "recently added" album. Is there any way to get this old functionality back?
All I want is one folder that contains all the photos on my device and another that contains the photos that I'm happy to share across my devices. I would have hoped I could have create some smart albums, but albums seem to have to be curated manually.
I know I can see all my photos with the photos tab, but there are two issue I have with this, #1 the "collections" interface is horrible – I just want a nice grid of photos like in albums – and #2 my photostream photos are merge within them.
I now have no way of telling if I'm deleting a photo from the phone or the photostream, for example when I'm trying to free up space on the phone.
Would turning on the "icloud photo library" feature help? I would rather not use that as I don't want it to waste all my icloud space.

So, basically now... the gallaries are gonna be the same. Because if you delete one photo from the iphone, you also delete it from ipad and viceversa.
This is stupid because i want to keep some photos on the ipad, but don't wanna have them on the phone.
AM I FORCED TO HAVE IPAD AND IPHONE WITH THE SAME PHOTOS???
    what's the point in this???
This is so stupid. if you find any solution, please help.
PS: I have not activated the icloud drive yet.
You have regular albums and shared album.
As long as you do not enable iCloud Photo Library Beta, your photos are stored only on the iPad, unless you add them to a shared album.
When you create an album in the "Albums" tab, with  "tap , enter a name, then tap Save. Select photos and videos to add to the album, then tap Done", this album is local on the iPad or iPhone.
Only "Shared" albums are stored on all devices,
When you delete photos from the photo stream, the deleted photos are removed from My Photo Stream on all your devices, but the original photos remain in Photos on the device on which they were originally taken. Photos that you save to another album on a device or computer are also not deleted.

  • How do I recover missing iPhoto albums and pictures?

A week ago, all my iPhoto Albums disappeared that normally would appear in the left iPhoto column under LIBRARY and RECENT. When I opened the iPhoto app from both the Dock and the Applications folder, an iPhoto window opens and asks if I would like to set up my iPhoto Library. The first few times this happened, I ignored the request and tried again with the same results.
I tried unsuccessfully finding and restoring the iPhoto Library Database from my external 3TB Time Machine hard drive. I couldn't find any full iPhoto Library Database backup and my backups go back a year. Instead, all I found and restored are photos and videos that were saved outside of iPhoto on the Desktop and in hard drive folders. Several months ago, there was a similar occurrence, but I was able to restore the Library Database. With no luck this time, I eventually allowed iPhoto to start up as if it was being installed for the first time and I never had the option to load an earlier backup Library Database or choose an automatic restore from an earlier version or backup.
While trying to go through various recovery choices with iPhoto, I started getting iCloud login popups asking for my Apple ID and password. I kept cancelling these because I had not previously set up iCloud. When iCloud messages persisted, I finally used my ID and password and the popups stopped. I'm clueless why this was happening and I remain clueless as to what occurred after I tried many cancellations, then finally entered my ID and password. Since then (two days ago), there has been no evidence of iCloud operating or requiring my attention.
After holding the command+option keys to start the iPhoto app, I've tried all the radio button options, one at a time, to Repair, Rebuild, Recover, Examine with no luck. Instead, all that is found are the same files I already mentioned. When I start iPhoto now after allowing it to start up from scratch, the Library Database shows iPhoto Library Recovered Photos (2 photos), Resources (176 photos), a CD backup, Desktop, and lots of short collections of media, resources, thumbnails, and other graphics images I don't recognize and are probably Invisibles. The only photos that appear when Photos is clicked in the left colum of iPhoto are photos that were apparently imported from backed up desktop and hard drive folders. All the photos that were previously imported to iPhoto and stored in iPhoto albums no longer appear individually or in albums in the left column of iPhoto.
    I'm using a one-year old iMac running Mac OS X Version 10.7.5 with iPhoto '11 Version 9.2 (626).
I'm reasonably confident the phtoos and albums are recoverable somewhere, but I'm at a loss to find out where. I've been running Macs since 1984 and this is the first time I have been totally unable to explain or recover from an OS, hardware, or app-level problem.
Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated. If absolutely necessary, I could pack up all my gear and take it to an Apple office 23 miles away for help.

My problem was not so much the loss of pictures, but the loss of their virtual association into albums I created because the albums were no longer appearing when iPhoto was started. I was reluctant to do any reinstalls of the OS, Tme Machine, or iPhoto because I was confident the existing installs were as they should be. Instead, I explored earlier Time Machine backups of iPhoto-related files and folders. I tried several different files/folders to see what I could find when I restored and opened them. To my delight, I found an earlier "iPhoto Library (original)" that, once I restored it to my desktop, iPhoto automatically found the virtual album-photo associations that existed prior to the earlier loss of albums; the restored albums appea as they should in the left column of iPhoto. This "fix" was not intuitively obvious to me, but I was pleased it worked.
A simple iPhoto explanation through iPhoto Help would have been very helpful if the explanation would have said iPhoto Album and Smart Album photo associations are logical, not physical, and the associations and album names are store in the iPhoto Library folder.
At this point, I'm hesitant to move the restored "iPhoto Library (original)" from the desktop, perhaps to the Applications folder, because I don't want to run the risk of undoing what seems to be working. Should I leave this on the desktop or move it?

  • Does anyone have an issue when they edit a pic using the built in editor on the 4s; and when you upload the edited pic or send it, the original one is sent. i even double check my photo in my album and it shows the edited pic

i have even double checked the album and the album has the EDITED pic but for some reason when uploaded or sent the original is what goes thru... makes me very irritated! not sure if its a setting or some bug... any suggestions???

I think it depends on how you share it.  Sometimes when I email it to myself it retains the edits, but I read that when people sync their phone it sometimes does not.

  • Unknown Album appearing in Album view

    Hi,
Minor frustration - in the 'Albums' view on my iPhone, a couple of 'Unknown Albums' appear - these are songs that have been stripped of their Album and Sort Album information, but which are still showing up under 'Albums'. They were purchased from the iTunes store - but then several other songs I've bought there don't appear in the Album view after I've removed Album information (I always do that for any songs that aren't part of a complete album).
Any help with fixing this is much appreciated, thanks.

I haven't actually done this myself because id have too sift through 10000 tracks, but i would think that if you went through your whole library and selected all the songs that aren't part of a complete album and just set all their album infos to the same name, your album view wouldn't have any unknown albums in it. Just one massive album will all the songs that aren't part of a complete album in it. Should make your album view look nice and tidy. Let me know if it works

  • Sub albums in iPhoto?

How to create sub albums in iPhoto?

I use Events simply as big buckets of Photos: Spring 08, July - Nov 06 are typical Events in my Library. I use keywords and Smart Albums extensively. I title the pics broadly.
    I keyword on a
    Who
    What
Where basis (The When is in the photos's Exif metadata). I also rate the pics on a 1 - 5 star basis.
Using this system I can find pretty much find any pic in my 50k library in a couple of seconds.
So, for example, I have a batch of pics titled 'Seattle 08' and a  typical keywording might include: John, Anne, Landscape, mountain, trees, snow. With a rating included it's so very easy to find the best pics we took at Mount Rainier.
    File -> New Smart Album
    set it to 'All"
    title contains Seattle
    keyword is mountain
    keyword is snow
    rating is 5 stars
Or, want a chronological album of John from birth to today?
    New Smart Album
    Keyword is John
Set the View options to Sort By Date Ascending
    Want only the best pics?
add Rating is greater than 4 stars
The best thing about this system is that it's dynamic. If I add 50 more pics of John  to the Library tomorrow, as I keyword and rate them they are added to the Smart Album.
In the end, organisation is about finding the pics. The point is to make locating that pic or batch of pics findable fast. This system works for me.

  • How to alphabetically sort albums and folders within a folder

Much to my dismay, I discovered that iPhoto will not alphabetically sort folders or albums that are within a folder. It will only sort folders and albums (in separate groups) that are at the "root" level beneath the ALBUMS label. I used "iPhoto Folder Import 1.0" to import multiple clip art and stock photo files which resulted in many nested folders and albums that did not stay in alphabetical order (because iPhoto often randomize them when you add them to an existing folder).
Here's how to get around the problem.
Albums: 1. Select all the albums in a folder. 2. Drag the albums to the ALBUMS label so they end up on the root level. 3. Right click on any of the selected albums and choose "Sort Albums." 4. Drag the still selected albums back into their original folder. They should retain their alphabetical order.
Folders: 1. Close all the folders that you want to alphabetize. 2. Follow steps 1-4 above with "folders" in place "albums."
I cannot understand why sorting won't work within folders. I also do not understand why we don't have the option to alphabetically interleave folders and albums. The only way to achieve this is to create folders for just one album, which seems silly.

How do you suggest i resolve the issue of different data types in order to use this function? I have tried a few different ways and have whenever I adjust, it wont run through my sub VI's correctly due to being different data types.
You have to READ THE FILES.  Jeff just showed you how to use a FOR loop to go through the files.  You still need to open the files, read them and then process the data.
I had assumed from CSmith8's original post that the text file processing vi worked.  just drop that vi into the for loop and wire the file name in!
Alternately, attach the code that processes the file and a sample file.  I bet we can show you a thing or two about how to do it cleaner and faster  then point you to the right learning resources so one day you can show us some new tricks.

  • Organization - Project, Album and Folder

I am looking for suggestions or recommendations on how to organize my photos in Aperture.  I am photo hobbyist taking pictures of family and events.
I currently create a new project for each shoot.  As a result, I have a lot of projects.
Does anyone have suggestions on a good way to organize the photos in Aperture for somebody who takes occasional pictures?

A very short version of one method.  Adapt to suit:
    Read this first.
Stick to "One Project = One shoot".
    Organize your Projects using Folders.
      - Don't organize them by date.  Use Projects View to see your Projects by date (as well as by whatever Folders you set up).
Set up a top-level Folder called something like "Output".
Create Albums for every output set (I'd like to call these "projects" but that gets confusing) you need to make.
Drag Images into those Albums (or create them populated by selected Images).  Remove the Images you don't want to publish (removing from an Album does nothing to the Image in other Albums and its Project).  Publish ("output") the Images you select.  Save your Output Albums for re-use.
Organize your Output Folder using sub-folders.
Think ahead about naming conventions for Masters, Projects, and Albums.  Use names that will always let you find what you look for.  Stick to them.
Keyword your Images.  Keywords are to help _you_ find things.  Apply Keywords _you_ will use when you want to find the Image.
Use Faces for family members and friends. It works well and can be a fantastic aid.
Use Places as needed, or if you have a camera that stamps the GPS coordinates.
You end up with three top-level Folders:
    - Smart Albums (customized to help you find things and make Albums)
    - Input & Storage (your Shoots)
    - Output
Aperture is (brilliantly) mode-less.  You can adjust any Image from any container.  Adjust them whenever you want.  Use a color label to indicate "Adjusted & ready to publish".
That should get your started  .
