Albums are gone after upgrade from iPhoto 2 to iPhoto5.0.4?
Are you kidding me? I have read everything I can get my hands on, and looked at every 3rd party software. We have over 3.5 GB of photos that I was hoping to import from an older computer. Everytime I tried to import them, I lose all of the album information. I have tried to rebuild the iphoto library. I have checked the permissions of the iphoto library I copied to the desktop. I have tried to open iphoto.db within iphoto (says iphoto does not recognize the file).
Is there anything I can do to retrieve the album data? I have multiple backups that I made on an external HD, so all of the data is complete (I think). I have successfully imported all of the pictures, but the albums are completely gone. This represents months of work, and I can't believe that Apple would be so shortsighted as to leave an upgrade path of the albums out of the software.
Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Bryan

I know it is frustrating when you do everything right and it still comes out wrong.
I find out that the times when things don't upgrade to perfection is when going from a version 2 library to a couple of versions up.
I went from 1 to 2 to 4 to 5 (there was no 3 ) and my albums were saved each time.
If Albums is the most important thing to you to keep I would suggest making sure every image on the older iPhoto library is in an album. then make sure you don't have images in more than one album.
Next export each album to a folder on the desktop with the name of the album.
Drag those folders in a new library just created open iPhoto viewing window.
Now you albums will be imported as rolls, which can easily be made into albums again.
-Another thing to try and I don't know how keywords transfer in an upgrade, so this is a maybe too:
In the old library, give every image in an album a keyword pertaining to the name of the album. Keywords should be short and you can even give each album a number keyword to identify them.
Now bring the library folder over into the Pictures folder and launch iPhoto.
it should open that library and tell you it needs to be upgraded to work with the new version of iPhoto. Let the upgrade happen and hopefully keywords will be preserved.
Now do a search for keyword is and select all from that search result window and go to File>new album from selection
-another way, and I am not sure on this either,In the old library name all the images in each album with the album name and a number appended. I know you can do this easily in iPhoto 5 with the batch change function. I don't think version 2 had this though.
Then when the library is transferred and upgraded you can do a search for the album name, then select all and do File> new album from selected images.
This is all speculation on my part because I don't have a version 2 iPhoto and library to test with.
i hope one of the suggestions might help you.

Stored Scripts are gone after upgrade from 1.5 to 2.0
Upgraded from 1.5 to 2.0 and there are now problems with the "SQL Scripts" in SQL Workshop:
1. SQL scripts appear to have gone missing - over 200 from one workspace. I checked the WWV_FLOW_FILE_OBJECTS$ table in 2.0 and they are not in there.
2. All the scripts have a long number added to the start of the name, and sometimes the SQL extension has a "1" added as well.
ie. 2100803509045739_CreateAuthFunction.sql1 (should be CreateAuthFunction.sql). Again checked WWV_FLOW_FILE_OBJECTS$ table and they are stored as .sql1
3. Some Control Scripts are there but the contents appear to have changed - this may be because they're no longer needed - not sure.
I saw a thread with a similar issue that suggested clearing IE temp files but this does not help. Any help appreciated.

MobileMe albums not visible in Aperture after upgrade from iPhoto
I've just upgraded from iPhoto to Aperture and all went well, except that my mobileme albums aren't appearing. I published a test album which worked, but my existing ones don't appear.
I've read on another thread that a dodgy character in an album name caused a similar problem but I can't see anything that looks odd in my mobileme album names.
Any ideas?I had the exact problem and found the solution here.

After upgrade from iPhoto 8 to iPhoto 11, my events were out of order
Yesterday I upgraded from iPhoto 8 to Iphoto 11, purchasing the app from the Mac app store. After it went through the upgrade process of the library of 18,000 plus photos, I found my 858 events were out of chronological order in many instances with no rhyme nor reason. They were previously sorted oldest at the top (2006) and newest at the bottom.
I went through and laboriously dragged them into the correct order then imported two lots of photos to find those events at the top. So the top row now reads, Event 2011-02-25, Event 2011-03-05, with the third one Event 2006-07-4 etc.
Help. I can't see how to fix this.No1jmb wrote:

Hi No1jmb: Try this. Select Events from the left pane, select View, scroll down to "By Date", then select Ascending or Descending.
Hope this helps

All of my pictures from my iPhoto library are gone after upgrading to Mavericks
I just upgraded to Os X Mavericks and now all of my pictures are gone from my iPhoto library, and of course I am unable to access this version of iPhoto on OS X Mavericks.
I tried to find them using a different application or in Finder, and in both cases "iPhoto Library" is in Gray and no contents are available. My system memory doesn't seem to be reflecting the number of photos I have either.
If I go back to my old operating system will it work? If not, I have lost all my pictures since February of 2011. I have been crying nonstop for an hour trying to figure out what to do.Open the App Store and upgrade iPhoto to the Mavericks version. Installing OS X does not do anything to your iPhoto Library.
The iWork apps are free with a new iOS device since 1 SEP 2013. They are free with a new Mac since 1 OCT 2013. They are also free with the upgrade to OS X Mavericks 10.9 if you had the previous version installed when you upgraded. -
Pictures gone after upgrade to iPhoto 9.4.2
Dear All.
After the upgrade to 9.4.2 we have a numer of problems:
1. All pictures are gone. iPhoto shows frames with no content.
2. I had saved libraries in different places at different times during the last couple of months. All the libraries ave the same date of the last changes to it: 31.3.2012. These dates must be different as we have been working with these libraries almost every day.
3. The one dated 31.3.2012 can be opened. Besides not showing any pictures (see 1. above) there seem to be two years (2011 and 2012) worth of pictures missing.
Please help, as this is a major desaster.
Thomas. The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
Regards

IPhoto quits unexpectedly after upgrading from iPhoto 7.1.5 to 9.2.1
I upgraded directly from iPhoto 7.1.5 to 9.2.1 via the App Store in Lion.
After launching iPhoto for the first time the application starts to rebuild the library. About 5 minutes later it quits and reports an "iPhoto quit unexpectedly" error. I tried simple solutions like restarting and repairing the disk permissions but still get the same error
The following is a copy of the log after iPhoto quits during the library rebuild process:

Faces gone after import from iPhoto
When I click on Faces, it's empty, the import from iPhoto forget to import faces?
Also, I can start adding names to faces, but then after a while, I'm not asked to assign any more names and I only have 12 faces but there should be many many more?
But the most important question remains : how to get my Faces from iPhoto?
Thanks,
KrisWhen I click on Faces, it's empty, the import from iPhoto forget to import faces?
Hello Kris,
How did you imort from iPhoto? If you import using the Aperture Apllication menu
File -> Import -> iPh.oto Library
then all your Faces should be transferred from iPhoto.
Which of the two buttons in Aperture do you use to show your "Faces"? There is the "Faces" button in the Library panel and the "Faces" Button in the Toolbar. Both behave differently. The "Faces" button in the Library panel will reveal all faces, whereas the "Faces" Button in the Toolbar will only show the faces detected in the in the currently selected item (folder, project). So it may appear that faces are missing, even if they are included in the Aperture Library.

Why is the item count in Photos for Mac significantly higher after upgrading from iPhoto?
Since upgrading to Photos for Mac from iPhoto, I've noticed the number of photos and videos in my library is higher than what I had before. Granted I imported some photos into the new app since then but taking that into account there's still a big discrepancy.
In iPhoto 9.6.1, the item count is 13,394 and I have since imported 95 new items into Photos for Mac. The total then should be 13,489 but Photos for Mac lists the item count at 13,626. That's a difference of 137 items.
Even taking into consideration that Photos for Mac might be including the 32 photos and videos that were in iPhoto's Trash (now Recently Deleted) folder, it still wouldn't account for 105 mystery items.
Does anyone have any insight into this difference in the number of items?Since upgrading to Photos for Mac from iPhoto, I've noticed the number of photos and videos in my library is higher than what I had before. Preinstalled iPhoto, iMovie etc. are gone after Upgrade.
Hello,
I got iPhoto and iMovie included with my MacBook Pro 13 (Early 2011), and I recently have changed my HDD to SSD. My question is how can I get these apps back again? The apps won't appear in Purchases tab in AppStore. I don't have any installation CDs, just a backup partition on my HDD. I also got Time Machine backup to external Drive, but I don't want to restore the whole info from it, just some apps... Also I have bought Space Gremlin from the AppStore - can't see it either. Any way to get the apps back will be great!
Thank you for your time!
Regards,
ViktorHow old is your Mac and is it used?
If your Mac is fairly old and the 10.2 disk that came with the computer was your original System Restore disk, then Tiger must have been purchased separately and Software Update was used later to upgrade to 10.4.10. But the Tiger upgrade would not have included any iApp's. Buying iLife '05 or iLife '06 would be needed to give you all the iLife App's. If you bought or received your Mac used, then someone did not include the Tiger and iLife software packages with it. If this is the case, the only way to recover your programs is to buy iLife.
If your Mac is fairly new, then your System Restore disks should contain Tiger 10.4.? and include all the iLife '06 App's. Again, if you bought or received your Mac used, then you may be missing the original System Restore disks that came with it. If this is the case, the only way to recover your programs is to buy iLife.
Either way, If you do not have a system backup, then the only way to recover your missing App's is to buy iLife. Also, if you want to risk losing Tiger 10.4, do not attempt to run the installation program from the Jaguar 10.2 disk.

Missing photos after upgrade from iPhoto 08 to 11
I just updated iPhoto from '08 (v7.1.5) to '11 (v9.5) and I opened a copy of my old '08 library. Unfortunately iPhoto '11 does not show any events or photos from this library. If I view the contents of the library in Finder I see that it still contains a 40 GB 'Originals' folder, but the 'Masters' folder is empty. Is there a more involved upgrade procedure - that is, instead of simply choosing the old '08 library upon start up?
I saw this earlier question https://discussions.apple.com/message/23844703#23844703. Though the problem sounds similar the solutions was to give up on importing and adding the photos manually. There must be a way to preserve my albums, no?
Thanks.Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

Chunks of In Box mail gone after upgrading from 10.3. to 10.4
I have a client that "lost" a chunk of Apple Mail emails (only from the In Box) after an Archive and Install from Panther to Tiger (10.3.9 to 10.4.9). We did a rebuild. No love. Sent emails exist but that inbox is decimated. It's receiving mail fine but past mail? Nada.
The one account is POP.The conversion from Mail 1.x to Mail 2.x is broken. Take a look at the following thread to better understand the problem:
Help! "You need to take this account online in order to download it."
More specifically, if this is a POP account, the following procedure should allow you to fix the Inbox problem. A similar procedure should allow you to fix other mailboxes that might also be affected:
1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
2. Make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder, just in case something goes wrong while trying to fix the problem. You can do this in the Finder by dragging the folder to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, for example. This is where all your mail is stored.
3. Create a new folder on the Desktop and name it however you wish (e.g. Inbox Old). It doesn’t need to have an .mbox extension.
4. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/INBOX.mbox/.
5. Move the files mbox and Incoming_Mail out of INBOX.mbox, into the Inbox Old folder just created on the Desktop. These files contain all the messages that were in the mailbox before the upgrade to Tiger, and maybe even some messages that had been deleted. mbox is the most important. Incoming_Mail may or may not be present.
6. Move any strangely-named Messages-T0x... folders to the Desktop (not into the Inbox Old folder). These folders are to be deleted after fixing the problem. They are temporary folders created during an import or an indexing process, and Mail should have deleted them when done. Their presence is a clear indication that something didn’t work as expected. If you’ve been using Mail after the conversion and have already tried to fix the problem by rebuilding the mailbox or something like that, they might contain messages that are neither in Messages proper nor in the mbox file, so keep them around until the problem is fixed.
7. Move everything else within INBOX.mbox, except the Messages folder, to the Trash.
The result of the above should be that INBOX.mbox contains the proper Messages folder only, and the Inbox Old folder on the Desktop contains the mbox and Incoming_Mail (if it exists) files only. Now, proceed as follows:
8. Open Mail.
9. The account’s Inbox should properly display in Mail as many messages as *.emlx files are in ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/INBOX.mbox/Messages/. If that’s not the case, select the mailbox in Mail and do Mailbox > Rebuild.
10. In Mail, do File > Import Mailboxes, choose Other as the data format, and follow the instructions to import the Inbox Old folder that’s on the Desktop.
As a result of doing the above, some messages may be duplicated now. Andreas Amann’s Mail Scripts has a Remove Duplicates script that you may find useful.
Do with the imported mail whatever you wish. You may move the messages anywhere you want and get rid of the imported mailboxes afterwards.
If all is well and you don’t miss anything, the files on the Desktop can be deleted, although you may want to keep them for a while, just in case.
Take a look at the following article (also referenced in the thread I mentioned at the beginning of this post) to learn what you might have done before upgrading to minimize the risk of this happening, and what you may do after fixing the problem to avoid similar issues from happening in the future. DON’T do now what the article suggests, though, as that would make things worse in the current situation:
Overstuffed mailbox is unexpectedly empty
Ask for any clarifications or if you need further assistance.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder. -
My bookmarks are gone after upgrading to Windows 8.1, WHY?!
I upgraded to Windows 8.1 yesterday and now my EXTENSIVE bookmark library is GONE! I tried finding the backup file in the profile folder of the Mozilla, but there is no backup file from before the update. Please help!
hello, you might want to inspect your harddrive for traces of your old profile folder: [[Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data]]
i don't know how and from which OS you have upgraded but that may have involved a reformat of your harddrive. in this case you cannot restore your prior bookmarks without an available backup... -

Best regards - GregEmpty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
