Albums not showing up in "Artists" category

I have a second generation iPod, a few moths old. I have been having no trouble synching albums to the iPod, until now.
In iTunes, both albums show up fine in both the "Artists" category, and the "Albums" category. But on my iPod, these two albums only show up in the "Albums" category, not the "Artists" category.
All the relevant information is on the albums (ie; Album Artist, Album Name, etc).
I recently did the update to v 4.2.1, and lost all the music. I thought that when I re-synched, that perhaps these two albums would appear in all the relevant categories on the iPod. But they didn't.
Advice, Please?

Seems the problem was with how the artist was named; What iTunes and the iPod wanted was for the artist's name to listed in "Properties" as "Contributing Artist". I did this, and re-synched, and now the albums show up in all categories.
Yay!

  • Album not showing up under Artist or Genre menus

I have at least one album (there may be more but I haven't noticed) where the songs were transferred to the iPod, and are available under the Albums menu, but don't show up under the Artist or Genre menus, even though this information is included in the Library for those songs. Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening or what I can do to resolve the problem?

It could be that you have inadvertently imported these CDs into iTunes as part of a compilation. If so, the artists won't show in the artists menu on the iPod.
To check, highlight the tracks on one of the offending artists CDs in iTunes, right click and select "get info". This brings up a multiple song info window, and from there you can check if you have 'yes' in the box marked "part of a compilation".
If you have, select 'no' instead and click 'ok'. Do this with any CD that has this issue. This will alter the info in iTunes, and you should then connect your iPod and synchronize the changes.
The problem arises because the information contained on the Gracenote CD Data Base (where iTunes gets all it's album/artist/track info from), is sometimes incorrect. It can show CDs as compilations when in fact they are not.
You should also check that the songs have album name info in their ID tags.

  • Songs not showing up in each category

I've just purchased my first iPod and I'm having some difficulties when I update the ipod with new music. I've filled out all of the information about the song (artist, album, genre, etc...) but for example, if I go to a particular artist all of their songs do not show up in that category. I've double checked each song on iTunes and the information about the song is correct... Help!

There are usually two things that contribute to songs not appearing under Artist on the iPod, both due to information either in or missing from the Get Info>Info tab against the song in iTunes. 1) the song is marked as part of a compilation or 2) it is missing an album name.
If the tracks are ticked in the Get Info>Info tab as part of a compilation, they will not appear under Artist on the iPod. Highlight a song in iTunes that you know is not appearing correctly on your iPod. Right click on it and choose Get Info and click the Info tab (alternatively choose Get Info from the File menu), if "Part of a Compilation" is marked untick it and afterwards update your iPod, you should find it now appears as normal. Compilations are stored in a separate folder in iTunes so the songs don't appear inside the normal Artist>Album folder which may be why this happens.
Also if tracks are missing an Album name in the Info tab, this information needs to be filled in. The no album one is a bit quirky as the songs will appear under certain circumstances but the simplest remedy is just add None or Miscellaneous in place of a title. • Several artists are not showing in the artist list on the Ipod.

Ok. As the title implies on my Ipod there are several artists that are not showing in the artist list. However, in Itunes an artist is clearly defined. I even changed the artist name and still had no outcome. The album is there....but I have to sort through the artist list in order to listen to the music. Can someone help me figure this one out?

The "missing" artists probably have their albums tagged as "Part of a Compilation" and you have the Compilation setting turned ON on your iPod. Either turn Compilations off (go to +Settings/Main Menu+ and +Settings/Music Menu+ and disable Compilation on both menus), or edit the tags to remove the Compilation option. Compilations are intended to be used for multi-artist albums, but often you'll get an album from a single artist tagged as a Compilation since the Gracenote database has an error in it.

  • Songs not showing up under "Artist" or "Album" catego

I have a Zen:Vision M 30GB (uploading with WMP0) and when I upload songs into it, I can go into the "Artist" category and see the names of the bands I uploaded but when I click on their name, the folder is empty. I know the songs are on there because I can view and listen to them in "tracks".
Anyone know how to fix this?

  • Certain artists, albums not showing on ipod but do show in Library.  Why?

My 60 gb ipod is synced with my Itunes library - which has all my cd's downloaded into it. However, even though an artist or album may show in my Itunes library, it doesn't show on my ipod.
For instance Maroon 5 Songs About Jane CD doesn't show when I search Maroon 5 in Artists or Maroon 5 in Genre but it does show when I look up the album name in Album. With nearly 1000 albums on my ipod, I'm not always able to remember an album name.
    How do I fix this?

This is a very annoying problem that I have encountered myself. The only way I found to fix this is in iTunes (when the iPod is connected) to go into the iPod's music list to where the artist is and edit the artist's name (this can also be done with the track title as well). Sometimes there is an extra space at the end of the name, or even before hand. Just make sure it's the proper name/title and that there aren't any unwanted spaces added to it. Once you do this, the iPod should recognize that the song is there when it's disconnected.
    Hope this helps you.

  • Album art not showing up under Artists

I just bought my 120GB ipod last week. It was working fine, but now the album art that shows up next to each album under "Artists" is not showing up. The art is there if I select a song from one of those albums. This didn't happen before...is there something wrong?
Also, I was listening to a playlist on shuffle, and when I clicked to go to the next song, it kept skipping to the next song like it was stuck in that mode. What's going on with that?

It's likely that the artwork cache is corrupted.
It's a simple fix by unchecking "display album artwork" in the music preferences section when your iPod is connected and click "apply". Then sync your iPod.
Then check "display album artwork" in the music preferences section when your iPod is connected and click "apply". Then sync your iPod again.
This should resync the album artwork to the iPod.

  • Some Artists do not show up on "Artist" list.  Why?

When I look for certain artists on my iPod Classic, the artist does not show up in the "Artist" category, but does show up in the "Album" category.  Why?

For the missing Artists on your iPod, make sure their tracks in iTunes are not marked as "Part of a compilation" in iTunes. You can do this by highlighting the track, right->clicking on them and choosing Get Info from the shortcut menu. When the window pops up, head over to the Info tab and make sure there is NO tick mark next to this option in the lower right hand corner. Lastly, sync the updated changes to your iPod if necessary.

  • Certain Artists Do Not Show Up On Artist List

I recently purchased a new iPod Classic and everything is lovely, but a few artists just aren't showing up on my artists list. The files are there - I can access the music in question through the album search feature - but the name does not show up. Out of my 50 gigs of music, there are only a handful of artists that I am having this problem with. I've tried reentering the names for each of the albums, but to know avail. Do you know why some artists/discs just aren't showing up on my main organizational menu? Thanks so much for the help.

Alternatively, just turn off the Compilation feature on the iPod -- go to +Settings / Main Menu+ and uncheck Compilation, and +Settings / Music Menu+ and uncheck Compilation.
I'm not sure that will do the trick. Artists not showing up on the Artist menu is usually because the album is marked a "Part of a Compilation" - as you say.
This is why, look what happens in this case; I have only two songs by the artist Oasis, one on the album *Acoustic 3* and the other on *Top of the Pops 2* . Both of these albums are true compilation albums, that is - they have songs by various artists on the one album and therefore the *album artist* is _various artists_ and it's marked as a compilation. As a result, the artist Oasis does not appear in my artist list. However, if I were to add an album where the only artist is Oasis, the *album artist* would be Oasis and therefore Oasis would appear in the artist list _and in that list_ would be all three albums! (The comp albums would only show the Oasis track of course.)
But there could be another reason! iTunes uses Gracenote to provide information about an album. If whoever created the Gracenote entry has listed an album as a compilation album (the compilation box is marked yes) because it is a _compilation of tracks by one artist but from different albums_ , guess what? It's a compilation! The album *The Whole Story* by Kate Bush is such an album. If that was the only album of hers that I had, she would not be on the artist list, but if I had her *Hounds of Love* album, she would be on the artist list and The Whole Story would show up!
I know - it drives you crazy!
The solutions: if a complete "one artist" album - The Whole Story for instance - is missing, go to *Get Info* for the whole album and mark the "Part of a Compilation" box as No . If you are about to import a new album, make sure the "Part of a Compilation" is off before importing it into iTunes. For a true compilation album (various artists) - that's a bit more difficult. Either accept it or, do you have one track (even the same one) from another album, or a CD single or single song that you can import to iTunes and mark as *not part of a compilation* ? If so, import it in order to create an entry for that artist.
By the way, while we are discussing all this - Greatest Hits albums. If you have albums by different artists but with the same album name, Greatest Hits for instance, add the artist name to the album title (Greatest Hits, Santana) so that your iPod can differentiate between their album and Greatest Hits, Alice Cooper. If you don't do this, when you look at Albums /album title you will see tracks from both albums together on one album.

  • Songs not showing up in Artists section

A few artists of mine will not show up in the Artists section of the iPod, but their albums will show up in the Albums section. When I play the album, the artist is displayed correctly on the Now Playing screen. How can I correct this so that the songs are visible in both the Artists and the Albums sections?

This isn't foolproof but there are usually two things that contribute to songs not appearing under Artist on the iPod, both due to information either in or missing from the Get Info>Info tab against the song in iTunes. 1) the song is marked as part of a compilation or 2) it is missing an album name.

  • Purchased albums not showing in the Albums view

I purchased an album and it is not showing up in the Albums view on the iPhone. It does, however, show up when I go to the Artists list or the Songs list. Can anyone help with this?

It looks like no one has responded, but I think I may be seeing a similar problem on my iPhone, but not in iTunes. I have three albums titled "Greatest Hits" (Journey, Pat Benatar, and ZZ Top). Any mode that doesn't have artwork associated with them, they are listed separately, but with Artwork displayed, all of the songs are listed under Journey. I'm not sure if this is the same as your problem, but it is odd how the iPhone groups songs by album name and not artist.

  • Albums not showing up - help!

Some of my songs were deleted from my iTunes Library so I reinstalled them and put them onto my iPod Touch 5th Generation running iOS 7.0.3 and they did not show up in the "Albums" list. They are only showing up in the "Artists" list but I want them to show up in the "Albums" list so that I can play them all as one.
Also, one of my albums is showing up as two different albums even though I installed it at the same time and the album is not a compilation.
Is there any way to fix these problems?
      Many thanks in advance

Does the songs you installed say they have an album title? Mine didn't have album titles so they never showed up till I added a title.
For the 2 album problems, have you tried retyping the album and artist names in again? They tend to be confused in apple and will be 2 until you retype them again.

  • "complete albums" not showing all songs.

throughout the weeks i have been buying Justin Bieber's songs to his new album Journals as he realsed then song by song. Now he has released the full album i have completed the album but two of the songs that i had already purchased i have had to re purchase because they're showing that i haven't brought them and they're also not even in the purchased playlist even though i did buy them.
Also the songs I have purchased from the album haven't been added into the album when i look on the itunes store it says that i have brought them all but when i'm on my actual itunes they are still all as seperate singles and when i click "show complete album" on the journals album it's showing that i need to buy all the songs again to be in the album, how can i change this if there is any way?
    thanks.

See: Some songs don't don't show under artist on my iPod.
Once you add a second album name for that artist even for a single song, ALL the rest of the songs should now show up under that artist, even those without album names.

  • Newly imported albums not showing up on aTV

I am running iTunes 9.0 on a Mac Mini and aTV 2.4. I do not store any content physically on the aTV drive. I stream everything wirelessly from iTunes. All of the albums, artists, etc. that were in my iTunes library when I first set up my aTV are showing up in the My Music section of my aTV; however, I just added a few new albums to my iTunes library and they are not showing up anywhere on the aTV. I would think that the aTV would automatically refresh its list to mirror what is in my physical iTunes library on the Mac Mini, but obviously it is not doing that. How do I get it the aTV to refresh what it's list so that my new imports show up?
Thanks in advance for your help!
