Albums vanish

I thought I would make friends with Aperture. I shot about 3000 images for an advertising shoot and loaded them into Aperture. I created albums for each shot and imported most of the images. I organized the days as projects with albums created for each project. After awhile the albums were stacked on top of each other with the typefaces running together making them illegible.
I quit Aperture and restarted it. Most of the albums vanished. The files were
still in the projects and when I tried to create new albums with the same names
as before I got the message the name was already in use or something like that.
So I made new albums and sorted the files from the projects again. This
time I quit Aperture and when I restarted the albums in the other project were gone. I quit Aperture and am finishing the project with Capture One. As you already know it works but then so does Bridge.
This still leaves me with a bunch of hidden albums in Aperture.
I can't believe I have had Aperture since the day it was released and finally got around to try it only to have this happen. (I have upgraded it by the way)
Thanks for any advice.

At the top of the panel that has the library and projects in it there is a dropdown on the top left corner - do you have "All Projects" selected, or just "Show Recent"? it sounds an awful lot like you have "Show Recent" set and your albums are just aging to the point you cannot see them. As you note they are still there...

Whenever I sync my ipod touch with my computer, several albums vanish from the ipod. Fortunately I have all my music saved to my computer, but this is still extremely irritating. The albums that vanish are always different. I have a 2nd generation itouch and a 2010 macbook pro with mac os x 10.6.7 and itunes 10. Please help!

You don't.  You synch your iPod to your computer.  There's no way to synch from iPad to iPod.  You can tranfer the same playlists to your iPod from the computer.

  • Album vanished from album page

After doing some editing on my site I published it and found that when I looked at it to check it one of the albums on my Album Page had disappeared. It is still in iWeb however.
    Any help, please.
Also, I had created links ( Back to Album Page ) on my photo pages because some of the folks I send it to may not realize what the " Back to Index Page " link is for. The links I created did not appear after publishing.
    Any help,please.

Hold everything guys, and this is for Cedric, Roddy and Cyclosaurus and before I go any further I want you all to know how much I appreciate your assistance, and your patience with me.
The plot thickens...I previously started another thread with this question :
" I started with a trial, and before it ended I paid for a year but I keep getting reminders that in a few days my trial will end. How can I contact a living person to straighten this out ? "
I found out, during my trying to straighten this out, that I wound up with 2 accounts, lorrdon, which was marked as a soon - to - expire trial, and lorrdon1 which was marked as a paid account with almost a full year to go.
I had contact with billing support at .mac trying to sort it out and was told that I was now lorrdon and that I could not transfer data from one account to the other.
I sent them a strongly worded e-mail telling them I had to have this corrected and although I have not actually had a reply from billing support I just realized, a few moments ago, when I was trying to see the result of applying Cedric's last fix suggestion , which was :
" In the page browser bar of iweb (left panel) you have the Our Albums page and at its left there is a triangle. Click on it and the photopages of the album contained in the Our Albums page show up. Now you select the 'Round the house page and drag it somewhere else in the iWeb page browser. It will not appear in the Our Albums among the albums anymore. Publish the Our Albums page. Now drag it back on the Our Albums page and it will reappear in it. Republish."
that I could access the webite either as lorrdon or lorrdon1 but that as lorrdon which now shows as the paid account and for which the Albums page was complete, and as lorrdon 1 where there was still an Album missing.
I'm wondering if billing support made the change I wanted and simply hasn't told me that directly.
I can login under either name, but if I login as lorrdon1 and then click on " Account details " the next window shows as lorrdon, not lorrdon1.
    What do you think ?

  • Purchased Album Vanishes Overnight - no response from "reporting a problem"

I purchased and successfully downloaded an entire album, listened to one or two of the songs, and then the next day - iTunes cant find the original files for any of the songs. I am not storing my music on an external drive, and all 2700 of my other songs are still right there where they belong in the iTunes Music folder.
I've "reported a problem" every day at least once on the iTunes purchase history, but I have yet to get a response. That was one week ago today.
My concern is not so much where did my files go nor how it happened, I work in the tech industry so I know that sometimes things like that just happen. My main concern is that I have reported a problem well over 10 times, and I have had no response.
Am I just out the $9.99 for the album?
Is this typical of how iTunes Support is?
I've used iTunes for years now, and this is the first problem I have encountered in which I needed to use any kind of tech support - so I am unfamiliar with the process. Maybe I am not "reporting the problem" correctly, but it seems that there is really no other way to do it than:
    - *click on report a problem in the Purchase History section of my iTunes account page* -
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Problem solved - emailed iTunes support via the web site, and NOT through the account history page in the iTunes application itself.
I feel a bit silly for not trying that sooner...
    Oh well, lesson learned.

  • How to delete empty Last Import albums on Ipad2

This is both a question and a partial solution to anyone who has found empty Last Import albums on their Ipad2 after upgrading to IOS 5.1.  I ended up with three Last Import albums on my Ipad under the Photos App after the upgrade to 5.1 and Iphoto app.
I could not delete them no matter what I tried.  Even turned off Photo sync in Itunes and had it remove all photos from the Ipad and the empty folders are still there.
I ended up trying a round about way of getting rid of the empties.  I reasoned that the Camera Connection kit had created this mess and maybe it could fix it.
Solution:   (Only practical with a few empty folders)
Shoot some photos with a digital camera using a SD card.
Put the SD Card in the Camera Connection Kit and connect to the Ipad.  Import the images but keep them on the card.
Disconnect the CCK and hook up to your Mac with Iphoto running. Import the images and delete from the Ipad when asked.
    Delete photos from Iphoto.
Repeat several times and you should notice that each time one more Last Import album vanishes from the Ipad.
Hope this helps someone else with this problem and Apple comes out with a better solution to this.

I found a solution! I added a comment over on the shimworld blog (http://shimworld.wordpress.com/2011/11/02/how-to-remove-empty-photo-import-event s-on-your-ipad-2/#comment-18392), I'll repost it here:
I ran into this same issue on my new iPad(3rd gen) after upgrading from iPad 2, I had a few hundred empty events(it took at least 30s of scrolling as fast as I could to reach the bottom). I use the camera connection kit as well as the EyeFI app to import photos constantly so it was a bit of a mess. I’m doing a road trip to SF area soon and needed space for new photos so I need to figure something out. After a bunch of digging around on the internet and looking into tools from my earlier jailbreaking days, I found a solution to do a full reset on the Photos.app. This does NOT require a jailbreak!
First I imported all photos to my mac using Image Capture. Then I turned off iCloud’s PhotoStream, turned off photo syncing in iTunes and let a the iPad do a full sync and backup. Next I ran DiskAid and deleted the photo related folders under the File System -> Media area(see below). This removed EVERYTHING from the Photos.app. Then I rebooted the iPad. The Photos.app was empty just like on a new device! I snapped a couple pics with the camera and it created the camera roll, I turned PhotoStream back on, synced some photos from iTunes. Everything seems to be working great now, just like new!
BEWARE: THIS WILL DELETE ALL PHOTOS STORED ON YOUR DEVICE in Photos.app!!! MAKE A BACKUP!!!!
Connect iOS device with USB and fire up DiskAid. In DiskAid click File System, then click Media. READ WARNING and accept.
    Delete these folders:
PhotoData (this has all the photos, database, etc synced from iTunes)
DCIM (this is the camera roll)
Photos (I think this is just the data to determine which iTunes library its synced with)
    PhotoStreamsData (iCloud Photo Stream data)
Reboot iPad(probably not required but doesn’t hurt)
    Enjoy a fully reset Photos.app!
DiskAid: I used v5.12 on my Mac Mini(10.7.3)

  • Photo library shows multiple "Last Import" albums after upgrade

Following my upgrade to IOS6, the photo library now shows 3 blank Last Import albums, the ones created when you use the camera import connector. I tried to reset photo syncs to correct the problem, but they still remain.
Having imported an event, one of the 3 Last Import albums is now populated with pictures. The issue remains that there is the clutter of the two blank ones which seem to linger and probably will always be there unless there is some way to reset this.
So the question is, has anyone else seen this issue and how can it be corrected. I have not seen any other similar postings on this problem.

And then I finally located the answer and although a bit of a pain, this corrected the problem.

  • IPhoto 9.5.1 Album disappearance.

    iPhoto 9.5.1 Album disappearance.
After updating an album of my most cherished pics from the last 15 years of family and friends, I attempted to drag and place it onto the iPhone icon under the heading "DEVICES" (iPhone was plugged into computer and visible in iPhoto) I have added photos to my iPhone from iPhoto in the past without incident. However this time the photos did not go onto the iphone. the album vanished. I did a secondary test with a small, easily reproducable album and when I dragged the album to the iPhone icon, a line with a circle appeared both below the icon and also above the iPhone icon (still within the DEVICE headed-section). Dragging and dropping the second "test" album more slowly, it appeared to have gone into that space above or below the iPhone icon without appearing anywhere. The original album (all I care about) was called "keepers on iPhone" and I have been building it for several years and had yet to put it on this newer phone I now have.
any idea how I can locate it? search for it? It would be painstakingly laborious to try to recreate it to get it close to the original file.

Thank you Terence. I am sure you are correct. I have a question though. When I looked into iPhoto Trash, there were many photo albums I had deleted over the last several weeks that were still visible in the trash, as I has not "emptied the trash" So wouldn't these 2 albums be in the trash also? if iPhoto thought I was deleting them, wouldnt they be with the other albums.
Can I see iPhoto albums in iTunes and drag them onto my iPhone there?

  • Vanishing or Disappearing Songs and Albums

I have a problem with iTunes that I can't work out how to fix.
Albums/songs that I have downloaded in the past appear in iTunes fine. Albums/songs that I am downloading now (either from a CD or online) appear in iTunes initally but then 'disappear' when I close iTunes and then reopen it. I am also unable to tansfer these albums/songs onto my iPod. I'm not really sure when this started happening but I haven't purposely changed anything on my computer. I can get them back by clicking on File/Add to Library but then the next time I close/open iTunes they have gone again.
I have searched on this forum and found some similar problems with people who have Vaio computers and have followed all the suggestions e.g. deleting Vaio media programmes, chaging Vaio services to manual in Task Manager and unistalling/reinstalling iTunes. None of this has made any difference (and I haven't had this problem the whole time I have had this computer).
Looking at the albums/songs in Windows explorer I have noticed a difference between the ones that don't vanish and the ones that do. If I right click on a song or album in the iTunes folder (which is on a NAS drive) and look at Security tab the the ones that don't disappear have different 'group or user names'. The ones that don't disappear have ' Everyone', 'Unix User\nobody' and 'Unix Group\nogroup' whilst the ones that do disappear have 'Everyone', 'Unix Group\users' and 'NAS-02-8A-5B\MyName'. Why is this? Does it matter? All of these group/user names have special permission and on closer inspection this means they can do everything.
One thing I can think of that has changed in the recent past is that I have a Roberts Stream 83i attached to the wireless network and this accessess my iTunes songs. Would this have an effect?
Please help. I don't know what to do now....
    Thanks in advance.

Well, after literally hours of messing around with various things on my computer I have finally managed to sort it out and I thought I would post my findings here in case anyone else encounters the same problem.
First I updated the firmware on my Netgear ReadyNAS Duo to version 7. This solved the problem of encountering error messages every time I tried to import a CD - I was only able to download one song at a time. I'm not sure if this was related to the permissions problem or not.
Next I went to ReadyNAS Frontview and changed a setting in the Share Listing section to "Set ownership and permission for existing files and folders in this share to the above settings. This option is useful in cases where you are changing security levels and need to workaround file access problems".
This seems to have fixed everything. Not being very computer literate I'm not sure why so if anyone could enlighten me that would be great!

The old iTunes libraries do not restore any playlists or song counts.
They should you if you do the roll back properly... Opening files from the Previous iTunes Libraries folder in Windows Explorer simply opens the current library. If you don't see the .itl file extension then don't give your copied and renamed file the extention or iTunes will create an empty library rather than using the renamed file.
If you had a complete pre-problem backup of your library you could restore that. On the assumption that isn't possible I have a script called ExportImport that could in principle be adjusted to save the relevant data from a backup of the library database and then reimport that data into the current library. See this thread for details.

  • Vanishing albums

I use 2 external had drives to store my music libraries. One at home and one at work with the same music on both. I have been experiencing albums mysteriously vanishing on both drives. The vanishing albums vary on each system. Has anyone else had their files vanish? Do you think it has anything to do with "keeps files organized" feature or a disc utility deleting bad blocks? I have checked the entire computer and they are just gone!
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Yes. I posted about this the other day, but my emphasis was on a way to tell the extent of the problem, because I noticed the ! doesn't show up in the first column until iTunes has some reason to go actually get the file. (That post is entitled "iTunes Database Integrity Check?".) So far I've found three albums that are gone, that iTunes thinks shouldn't be. In all cases, the whole album directory is gone, which seems like a hint. I also use an external drive, with about an 8000 song library. In one of the cases, I think I deleted the album intentionally, from within iTunes, some time back. I can't remember for sure though. So in that case, the odd thing may be that iTunes still thinks it should be there. I always let iTunes do the actual file manipulations, and "keep files organized".
I did get in trouble the other day with another application opening (though not modifying) a file under iTunes -- to get things back I had to reset the machine. I don't think it's related though, because my missing directories are also missing from a backup predating that event. Mentioning this just for completeness. A friend suggested iTunes may not like other applications even opening its files.
After a little more searching in this discussion, I found a reference to an AppleScript site, http://www.dougscripts.com/itunes/index.php, where I found a script called List MIAs. It didn't find any more missing files, but I'm still not confident I've got a handle on the extent of this. It's definitely got me thinking more about the restore end of my backup process.

  • Albums have vanished from Project! - Please Help

    Hello there...
Every few months i create a new Project folder and then create albums within.
My latest Project folder had several albums, one light table and one book (in process).
The other morning i opened Aperture and all the albums etc.within this Project had vanished!
I could not believe my eyes. As i'd been editing until very late the previous night i assumed i must have done something silly without realising...
I created a new album in the same Project and put about 50 images into it.
Today i opened Aperture to continue work on this Album and AGAIN it has gone!
I searched in all other projects, nothing.
So i did a test and created an album in the Project with only one photo in it. Quit Aperture and re-launched and again it's gone, vanished.
This makes no sense. Yes my hard drive is totally full, running slow etc. and i'm about to transfer a heap of files to an external hard drive, but nevertheless i had no warning dialog box from Aperture (as i would expect). And everything else is ok.
I did another test and created a New Project with just one photo and made an album and light table with the one photo. Quit and re-launched and it is there... So it seems to be only the one Project which was fine for weeks...
Can somebody please help me work out/understand what is going on. I've had this version of Aperture (2.1.4) for quite some time with no worries...
Any ideas or thoughts would be most appreciated
    Many Thanks
    Sam

Seeing as no one else has any contribution i thought you may like some possible lines of thought.
How many images in the Project. 1000 works, more and things begin to get less predictable, 5000 is asking for trouble. Did you do a lot of work then close while possibly some background processing is going on. Leave it a while before closing.
Is it Project specific it sounds like it may be. Is it File specific, do you format the card in the camera frequently.
Try different options to make the Albums Q field >Album from selection. Drag to Album. Highlight images then Album from selection. etc. Allan

  • Zen Vision M: Vanishing Album

Yes I know another Album Art problem but the how, why and what next has really got me puzzled!?I have a ZVM 30GB synced to a PC with WMP . Until recently absolutely no issues with my ZVM and Album Art; the occassional missing picture if auto sync was too quick and transferred the music before the art had been found. If this happened a quick re-sync fixed it. That was until last week when I was adding some new albums and the new Album Art did not appear and nothing I have tried since works. To date I have:
Delete all files on the ZVM and re-synced.<
Cleared and rebuilt the WMP library, delete all files on the ZVM .<
Re formatted the ZVM and re-synced<
Updated firmware from .40e to .6.0e and resynced<
All with no change - the nett effect is that now I have zero Album Art on my ZVM and have run out of ideas.
Has anybody got anything else to suggest?

Hi?I've had exactly the same problem as backwoodsman over the last few days - I was halfway through transfering all of my music across (over several weeks) using WMP and suddenly none of the new transfers have art attached. I was interested to know whether you've tried Mhabarta's suggetion and whether it worked, before I delete all of my folders and start from scratch. ThanksMessage Edited by DrB on 04-6-200709:4 PM

  • Web galleries, albums, titles and ratings vanishing. Database corruption?

    Hello!
I'm using iPhoto '08, as included with my MBP. The library was originally used with iLife '06, and before that, iLife '05. It's around 11 GB, with about 6400 pics and videos, and I have about half a dozen web galleries and about two dozen albums.
I usually don't give titles to photos individually, but rather the roll/event when imported. The photos I put in an album or upload to my Web Gallery, however, I give a more detailed title and comments.
Last night, I went though my photos, organizing my library and deleting many of the bad-pics I took yesterday. I created three web galleries, each with about 50 photos with custom titles. Today, all three galleries are missing from iPhoto (they did publish without difficulty, however), those that are there are missing photos, and about half of the titles are missing! Many ratings have disappeared too.
What's going on? I'm noticing it clearly with the web galleries, but that's probably because that was what I spent the most time on - titles are missing all over the place. Is it a corrupted library database? If so, how do I fix this - and can I do so and keep my albums, galleries, and titles?
    Thanks,
    -Dan

    Start with a rebuild:
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
