Alchemy and Ope

Hello,?Sorry i dont know if i'm in the right place but i dont uderstand the system "Alchemy" or "OpenAL"
!!! Ok, i have a "Sound Blaster? X-Fi Xtreme Gamer - Fatalty Professional" with Windows Vista, and i install Alchemy. Last i bought "Bioshock" and i dont understand the option "Use Creative with EAX" was not check (i check the box and it was ok). But i read somewhere i didnt to have to check it because of my "Sound Blaster? X-Fi Xtreme Gamer - Fatalty Professional" is this true ? Or do i have to download "OpenAL" http://www.openal.org/??Thank you for taking the time for explaining to me this things. Bye.

Ok, thank you, but... I'm sorry, i?still?dont understand somethings , the difference between Alchemy?and OpenAL
!!! Can someone take the time to explain to me please. I read some articles but i can't passe through ?With my "Sound Blaster? X-Fi Xtreme Gamer - Fatalty Professional " i download "Alchemy" with the update. When i lauched?the software,?i can see the Game "World Of Warcraft" on the left colum (not activat)?and if i put it on the right colum it is activate (ok easy). But why i can't see by exemple "BioShock" ? Is the game working in EAX automatically ?Do i have to download "OpenAL"?or do?i just have to keep "Alchemy" ?Thank you by advance for taking the time for answering to me.

  • Each time you install a new game, you need to run Creative ALchemy and "Transmute" your application.

What does this mean and how do you do it. I just put Guild Wars on my machine but no EAX so I assume this is why.
    Help is needed, thanks.

First thanks for the reply and so what you are saying is that I need to put the game in the Alchemy.ini file. I thought it would see the game automatically or am I wrong on that.
The only games that Alchemy will see automatically are the ones that are already in the Alchemy.ini, most (or all) of which should be listed here,
    http://connect.creativelabs.com/alch.../AllItems.aspx
If you click on the "ALchemy Quick Start" link in the left menu you will get the help menu that tells you how to add games to Alchemy. Personally I prefer to use the GamePath method over RegPath, just easier than mucking about and trying to find the correct regpath. For example I have Far Cry 64 installed (and to tell the truth I dont even know if there is a regpath to use, never looked) and all I did was open Alchemy.ini (in Notepad) and added the following,
    [Far Cry]
    GamePath=D:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Crytek\Far Cry\Bin64
(D in my case, but would be the drive letter for wherever ou have the game installed), then ran Alchemy and it was in the added games list and clicked Transmute. BTW Far Cry 64 works and sounds great using Alchemy.

  • Alchemy and EAX doesn't w

    Hi
I'm trying to get EAX sound working in games using Vista, X-Fi Extreme Music and Creative Alchemy.
I've installed alchemy and added the games in the console yet the EAX options in game are still greyed out.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Flim

Yes I managed to get it working. Seems I didn't choose to install EAX Unified when installing Tomb Raider angel Of Darkness.

  • Creative Alchemy and Dawn of War 2

Hi i have just got Dawn of War 2 and have sound problems with the game. When i play the game the sound stuterrs etc. read somewhere on the net that the problem was to do with alchemy but my alchemy does not list dawn of war 2 as a possible game. I gather i can add games myself but am unsure what settings to input or what game path to use. I have linked it to the default game path which is inside steam folder where the dow2.exe can be found, If anyone can tell me settings to use in game i would be greatful [email protected]

&} main problem solved on RelicNews Forums ALchemy is not needed just needed to set speakers to 6bit 44.kHz under windows sounds settings. One last problem though if anyone has any ideas do please say during cutscenes and videos in the game there is a lot of static never had this problem on any other software so if anyone has any ideas how to solve this one i would be [email protected]

  • Creative Alchemy and COD2 quest

First a word?about the new drivers and my system:?I have just reinstalled Vista for the third time?since Feb (didn't want any old driver **bleep** left over)?and I guess three times a charm. My sound so far in DVD movies , WMP , Li've TV and Games sounds 80% better than the?first betas , all my Inspire 7. speakers work (no crackle or pops?at all)?and I get EAX type sound through my cheapass Sennheiser headphones , IT AIN'T PERFECT YET?but?I'm happy so far.....some cool software would be nice too.?Now on to my question , I just reinstalled COD2 and Alchemy , BEFORE when I would Transmute the game to OpenAL? I could then go into the game and select the EAX sound and it would stick , now it reverts back to Miles3D.
What the heck am I doing wrong?TYFAHIA:smileyvery-happy:?

Actually I have COD2 installed through STEAM and it is the only game right now that is in the Alchemy list.
I reinstalled Vista Sat night and spent a few hours testing and tweaking yesterday?with Bf2 and 242?which now?sound great by the way (however the video drivers still need some tweaking on these 2 games)?, and then last night installed STEAM and all my STEAM games (COD2 , DODS , CSS?, DOD) and let it download them?over night.
I think what it was is that I didn't restart STEAM the first time?I just dove right in , but after I posted?here?I did a quick shutdown/restart of STEAM and started Alchemy again and saw that COD2 was?back on the D3D side?again so?I Transmuted it back over to OpenAL and it worked.
To sum up , I think retsarting STEAM after downloading and updating all my games did the trick.
PS:After trying it out (COD2) it now?sounds and plays every bit as good as in XP , I think it won't be much longer for Nvidia and CL and things will be Rock n Roll!!!
    Thanks.

  • Alchemy and Windows 7 post Service Pack 1

Is anyone having a problem using Creative's Alchemy application for restoring 3d hardware acceleration for old games in windows 7 AFTER installing Service Pack 1?
I have had very good luck in the past when using Alchemy under 32 or 64 bit versions of Vista and Windows 7. I no longer can make it function now and I was curious if anybody else had similar results before/after service pack 1 for Windows 7.
    Thanks.

Have you try using the beta version of the Creative ALchemy Beta .43.06

  • ALchemy and advanced EAX effects on Vis

After upgrading to Vista, I thought little about the omission of DirectSound until I started playing World of Warcraft again last night. EAX effects are gone!
So after spending a few hours reading up on solutions, I stumbled across Creative ALchemy, which promised a solution. I've installed it and converted the .dll's correctly, but nothing has changed! The advanced reverb effects that previously made World of Warcraft so enjoyable are still gone, and the sound is still thoroughly "flat".
I'm no sound expert and it's certainly possible that basic DirectSound effects were added through OpenAL, but I do know that the advanced EAX effects are gone.
Anyone have a solution? Is this a planned feature in a future release, or does it sound like the problem may be with World of Warcraft, or something with my own driver installation? Thanks in advance,
    ~Sangye Ince-Johannsen

Alright, here's what my log said:
    Logging Time : 5/5/2007 at 5:06:34
Loaded ini file from D:\Games\World of Warcraft
NOTE : If you have a SB X-Fi card, please use the Creative Audio Console application to enable 'Game Mode'.

    Failed to initialize OpenAL
DirectSoundCreate8 : Failed to load and initialize ct_oal.dll, falling back to dsound.dll
So, I switched to Game Mode, and now my game sound has completely stopped working. The new log, however, is clean:

  • X-Fi Notebook and Alchemy (anyone have it working)

    Hello
I have another thread pertaining to the X-Fi 5. USB surround, and am coming to the conclusion that I need to box it and try something else.
So I was wondering if anyone who has purchased the X-Fi notebook (express card) or X-Fi xtreme 5. notebook (older card I think) have got them :
    1. Working with Alchemy.
    2. Working with Alchemy and Fallout 3.
I would really appreciate any info regarding successfull or unsuccessfull attempts at this.
    Regards

I am experiencing the same disappointment. I'm a composition student who relies on Soundfont technology to make decent recordings before I present my music to real performers. I just bought a new laptop online and paid $80 extra?to receive the?X-Fi Notebook because Creative states that "the X-Fi series is Soundfont compatible."? That was the main, and only, selling point to me.
I will be returning the card immediately.

  • I have iphoto 9 (version 8.1.2).  When I opened up iphoto it said that I had 0 pictures (it had over a 1,000) prior.  My screen saver was and has been set to a foler in iphoto and still displays the photos.  How do I retrieve my pictures?

When opening Iphoto (Iphoto 9 version 8.1.2) I went from hundreds of photos to 0.  I looked in my harddrive and could not locate the pictures under library or photos.  I tried rebuilding the system (ctl. alt. and opeing the program).  I would assume all my pictures are lost except for when my screen saver runs, I still see all of my old photos.  How can I retrieve my photos?

  • Pops and crackles when using EAX in F.E.A.R.

    Here is my system:
    Windows 7 64-bit
    intel i7 930
    ASUS P6T:SE Mobo
    2x Nvidia GTX 470 SLI
    12GB DDR2 RAM
    1TB 7200 RPM HDD
Creative X-Fi Titanium and the latest non-beta drivers
-I also have the Windows PID patch and the SLI patch
I recently discovered Alchemy and how it would enable EAX effects (though I'm still not exactly sure if EAX is responsible for the 3D positioning or if it's just some fancy processing to make sound effects sound cooler).
That said, I noticed that after enabling Alchemy and EAX effects, F.E.A.R. started to make popping and crackling noises. But, these noises wouldn't start immediately. It would take a couple minutes before I started hearing them, and it would get progressively worse and worse. Eventually, the game itself would start stuttering and it became impossible to play because of the choppiness.
I have never really experienced this with another game, and only noticed this behavior after enabling EAX effects. I have played F.E.A.R. before with no problems, granted, this was without EAX effects enabled.
Furthermore, I have no idea what needs to be enabled. In the F.E.A.R. sound menu, I have these options:
    Hardware Mixing
    EAX 2.0
    Advanced EAX HD
I can turn any combination of those on or off, and I'm not really sure which ones I should have on and off. Turning on Hardware Mixing and Advanced EAX HD seems to have the best results, but then the sound starts jacking up after playing for a few minutes and eventually, the actual gameplay itself will start becoming choppy, making it impossible to continue playing. It even becomes hard to navigate the menus because the cursor is affected by the choppiness as well.
And the popping and crackling even continues after I exit the game, even in Windows, but to a lesser extent. And it seems to quit completely after a few minutes. Very strange.
Also, I tried disabling SLI and it did not seem to make a difference.
What is going on here? I just want to play this game with 5.1 surround sound and, preferably, EAX, because I do like the way it sounds. It's just that I can't play with EAX because it starts jacking up after awhile.
Edit: It seems that turning on "Hardware Mixing" enables discrete 5.1 channels. Without Hardware Mixing on, I only get stereo output from F.E.A.R. Is this correct behavior? I'm testing further to see if the popping and crackling occurs when Hardware Mixing is enabled (but not any of the EAX settings). I'll report back when I know.
Edit #2: After several minutes of playing with only Hardware Mixing enabled (and no EAX), no popping or crackling occurred. I will continue to test different combinations.
Edit #3: After more testing, it seems that I can use Hardware Mixing (which enables discrete 5.1 channels) and Advanced EAX HD together, which sounds absolutely fantastic. I believe that the problem is caused when I enable EAX 2.0 -- even if I immediately disable it, it seems like it actually starts causing a problem. So what I did was completely restart the game (and my computer) and ONLY enable Hardware Mixing and Advanced EAX HD making sure not to touch EAX 2.0 at all, leaving it disabled.
I've been playing for about an hour with no pops or crackles at all, let's hope it stays that way!
tl;dr - Turning on EAX 2.0 and Advanced EAX HD at the same time can cause undesirable results even if you turn off EAX 2.0. Restart the game (and perhaps your computer) to make sure that when you start the game, EAX 2.0 is completely disabled and ONLY enable HW Mixing and Advanced EAX HD.
Edit #4: Sadly, I am still noticing some intermittent popping, but after playing for awhile it never gets extremely bad. It is much less severe than earlier. Not sure where to go from here.

Just for curiosity I didn't install ALchemy straight away. As I suspected, none of the advanced sound mode options were enabled, which means they've just got an overly complicated menu. It could have just as easily been one option called "Audio Processing" with "Hardware", "EAX 2.0" and "EAX Advanced HD" as the available options - no need for a "Software" setting since it would be disabled without any of those, and the others could be en-/dis-abled based on your hardware capabilities. Oh well - chalk that one up to poor menu design.
When I did install ALchemy, however, I just used the default settings - 4 buffers at 25 duration - and turned on all three options in-game. I played through until the first checkpoint in the 3rd "level" (after the third loading screen w/briefing) and didn't notice anything unwanted with the sound. It appears that I'm using ALchemy 1.43.21, going by the installation files properties, but in all honesty I'm just using what came with the latest Recon3D drivers.
The nearest equivalent I can find for the X-Fi Titanium is a beta 1.43.06, but I might be able to find a way to upload the Recon3D one somewhere if you want to see if it works and fixes the problem. Alternatively, they can be extracted from the driver suite for the Recon3D easy enough. I use 7-Zip to do it, but other archive programs can probably do it as well. Look in the Audio\extras\Audio\ALchemy directory.
It's a shame the protagonist in FEAR keeps wigging out. It's actually a pretty darned good shooter when it's not trying to warp your brain - but at least there's no baby crying like when Max Payne goes nuts.
I just noticed that I get popping, crackling, and eventually game-freezing in Left 4 Dead 2, as well.
I used Alchemy to enable EAX for Left 4 Dead to (I read in the FAQ on Creative's Alchemy page that you could enable it for source engine games), and while playing, I starting hearing pops and stuff just like as in F.E.A.R. Eventually, the game started lagging as well (like in F.E.A.R.), and I had to quit out. It even persisted in windows for a bit as I would notice it when changing the volume and hearing the little "ding" with a pop or crackle in it. I restarted my computer.
I wonder if perhaps the problem isn't Alchemy, but if my sound card is overheating? But that seems a bit far-fetched. I do have two gpus which produce a lot of heat, but both of them stay within safe temperatures (though they do get close at times). In fact, one of them is even water-cooled, and it stays very cool.
It just seems especially strange that, although diminished, the pops and crackles continue even when I quit to my desktop. I don't hear them unless a sound is playing, though. And even then, it is quite diminished from they way it was during the game.
Also, how do I check my version of Alchemy? Could I not use the software update to get the latest version?
Edit: I just tried the software update. It said that my version of Alchemy is 1.41.02, and that I have the latest version installed.
Do different versions of Alchemy exist for different Creative cards? For example, perhaps 1.41.02 IS the most recent version for my x-fi titanium, but not for your recon3D.. Or can I use any version of Alchemy? Maybe getting the most recent version would fix my problems.
Edit #2: I found version 1.43.06 of Alchemy. I went to the x-fi titanium's page on Creative's site and clicked on "beta application", and it was there. Downloading/installing now and testing.
Edit #3: Version 1.43.06 of Alchemy does not seem to work. I do not get any EAX effects in F.E.A.R. at all, no matter which combination of options are enabled.
Also, as a side note, does "EAX Effects" need to be enabled in the audio control panel? I've tried it both ways, but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

    Hi
In Audio MIDI Setup, change Properties For to Built-in Output. It will then change from Output Not Supported to Input Not Supported & the Output bit will become active.
Another way of restoring sounds is to open GarageBand, play a few notes on the screen keyboard, then quit GarageBand.

  • Sound Blaster Audigy 2 zs + Creative Alchemy + Halo: Combat Evolved= Sound Clipping

Hi, I have just installed the Audigy 2 zs in my windows 7 32bit system which is an upgrade to my old Live! 5.1 digital. Before install of the new sound card I removed all previous drivers and software that pertained to the old card. Then installed the Audigy 2 card with latest official drivers and the latest version of Alchemy. Everything went well except when playing Halo: CE for PC, When playing in game with sound acceleration and EAX on I am getting what I can only call sound clipping when there is a lot of sounds being heard or I should say supposed to be heard, I am only hearing part of them with a clip and sometimes none of them. During the Start Menu the sounds come out fine, it only happens in game with a lot of stuff going on such as in the middle of a battle or just firing the assault rifle on full auto. I tried playing around with the settings in Alchemy but that did not work. I never had this problem with the Live! 5.1 card. Any and all help would be appreciated

    Install aLchemy.
Go to install location of aLchemy (default is C:\Program Files(x86)\aLchemy\) and add this into the "aLchemy.ini" file:

    Duration=5
    [Halo CE]
    RegPath=HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Micr osoft Games\Halo CE\EXE Path

    Two sugestions:
    1. Experiment with the settings;
    2. Use old Alchemy (take a look PM...).
