Alcor card reader not recognising SD card, Windows 8.1

My card reader stopped reading my SD card (formatted for Nikon SLR). I hunted around and saw that the only new software on the PC was the Alcor software, so I uninstalled it and, hey presto!, the card reader works again.
However, the HP update service keeps reinstalling the software - every time it does, the card reader stops working until I uninstall it.
How can I resolve this?

Hi oldblackswan,
Open HP Support Assistant (HPSA).
Click "Settings".
Then select "check for updates but let me choose when to download and install".
This will stop HPSA from automatically reinstalling the Alcor driver.

If i remember to, i can do a choos paper-source by pdf page size but this setting is never remembered.

Actually, a quick test today shows neither color nor BW would scan the page to the correct size.

ITunes not recognising iPad on Windows 7

I am fed up with windows asking me what to do when I attach a device. So this morning I went into control panel and changed things to "take no action". But when I attached my iPad afterwards it was not showing up in iTunes. So I tried all the usual... Restarting the laptop and trying different USB ports etc. but still iTunes does not recognise my iPad.
So I looked in control panel to see if I could find an answer and found I had mistakenly set iPad and iPhone to "take no action". But when I try to change it there's no itunes option!. It is all "open folder to view files" and "import pictures" type options. Clearly my pc thinks my iPad is a camera.
And clearly I've buggered things up. What can I do to make iTunes recognise the iPad again?? And no synching by wifi is not an option as im currently nowhere near home and on 3G at the moment.

There have been some problems accessing pages on the Apple web site. If the hyperlink gives you a "We're sorry" message, try again.

Ipod 3Gen not recognised by itunes Windows 8

I Pod 3gen not recognised by Windows 8/itunes - has been fine previously however. Any suggestions?
Need to move purchased TV programmes from Ipod to iTunes to create space for further downloads and tend to find this is always less than straightforward. Am however stumped on this occasion by the inability to access ipod which is being recognised by the PC but not accessible on iTunes.

I understand that after doing a recovery your fingerprint reader is not working,
From your screen shot Device Manager is showing no issue with it.
Have you ran the HP Support Assistant to assist with locating HP updates and drivers?
Have you done all your Windows updates?
To assist you I will need some more information.
What exact model of HP notebook do you have? How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?

Black screen/not recognised in Itunes/Windows - tried everything?

My ipod was working fine until a couple of weeks ago when I decided it was time to sync it, and itunes asked me to upgrade the os - which I did, but after a while it froze, then my only option available was to restore - which I did, when it froze again. I'm now left with an ipod touch that has a black screen, is not recognised by itunes, doesn't show up as a device in 'my computer', but does make the 'usb plugged in' sound when i plug it in/out.
I've tried:
Holding down the buttons to force it to restart / switch off - nothing
Holding the home button whilst plugging it in - nothing
Charging it - nothing
uninstalling all apple/itunes components and doing a clean reinstall - nothing
using a different computer - nothing
I cant check to see what setting the ipod is in, as the screen is black.
Any suggestions? It's not even 18 months old, has only had light use and I love it!

6 in 1 card Reader not found after installing Windows 8 - HP Pavillion Dv6

I am running a dv6874ca and after installing Windows 8 the 6 in 1 card reader no longer works - the system does not read any information. I cannot find the card reader in the device manager.
Note: I am trying to view a Sony Pro Duo card which was possible before installing Windows 8. The only item that appears under "disk drives" within the device manager is my hard drive.

T61p upgraded palmrest with fingerprint reader not recognised

I have the following T61p mode 6457-Y74. Originally it never came with a fingerprint reader, so having bought one off ebay and installed it, it doesnt work, neither is it recognised in the BIOS. My question is, am i right to assume that a T61p without fingerprint reader would have no option to enable/disable in the BIOS? Therefore, if i installed the fingerprint reader, are there any other steps i would need to take to get it registered/recognised? Once installed, would it just appear in the BIOS? If so, then i suspect the palmrest may be faulty. If not, what am i doing wrong?

Your system is definitely compatible with the fingerprint reader. You have a cpu that wasn't offered until 2-2008, requiring Penryn support, so it's not a case of a board that predated the fingerprint reader (if any exist).
Look in the security section of your bios, if you don't see it there, then it must be a bad reader.
You can try updating your bios, I have done this with much older t61 models, but I always instaled the latest bios, just be careful, a failed bios update can render the system unusable.

IPod is not recognised on either Windows nor on Mac. Please help!

I have an old iPod (3d generation I think) which worked ok up to the point when I got a new Macbook with a new iPod (60G, black). Since then the old iPod doesn't want to be recognized anywhere, on Windows or Mac. When I switch it on, all I see is the apple on the screen, nothing else works. I tried all the solutions that are on the support site, but none of them work. Could anyone please help me with this problem?

So having had my first post removed for one reason or another I will ask again:
Does ANYBODY have any idea at all what is causing this seemingly common error to occur? I have tried all the steps advised by troubleshooting/advisors and members of the public...
Is my only option gonna be to return the device to apple?
I only ask because several people have now complained about this and bar being directed to a certain support page no actual useful advice is being given?

Changes made to JPEG images in ACR are stored as metadata within the JPEG image. Those changes will not be read directly in Photoshop. It will be necessary for you to modify your bridge preferences and make sure you have selected "Prefer Camera Raw for JPEG..." Then I think your action will work properly. In your batch setup you need to make sure you check the Override File Open Commands... And then they should be opened through ACR without displaying Camera Raw.

HP Probook 4540s Fingerprint reader not detecting fingerprints in windows 8.1

I install the drivers form Valitdy that enables WBF so I can use the sensor in windows 8.1 from here

It detects the fingerprint sensor and alows me to start registering my fingerprints but when i move my finger over it nothing happens.

My iphone 3gs is not recognised in either windows 7 or in the latest itunes. It was briefly but then Windows asked me if I wanted to open the camera with Windows media player and I clicked ok. I also tried to download the new software for the phone. Now nothing works. I also downloaded a programme which you supposedly need for iphone with windows 7

The ONLY program you need for an iPhone on Windows 7 is iTunes. Remove whatever the other program is, then remove and re-install iTunes as diesel vdub recommends.

Ipod touch not recognised in windows or itnes since updating to itunes9

Hi all,
I upgraded to itunes9 and now my ipod touch (2nd gen 16gb) is not recognised in either windows or itunes.
The ipod still charges via the USB lead so presmably there is nothing wrong there
So far I have tried the following
Uninstalled all itunes, apple stuff, bonjour etc
reinstalled
still same issue.. stopped and restarted apple mobile.. repaired apple mobile.. etc etc
rebooted a zillion times and spent the last 36 hours tearing my hair out all to no avail, its still not recognised.
At one stage i had a "device found" message, swiftly followed by a "device has malfunctioned" error message and back to square one again.
It's my understandin that I can't ring apple (unless I pay) as I have had the ipod since Jan 2009 so if anyone here could help or has any suggestions I wold really appreciate it.
In the device manager there is nothing ipod related in the Universal Serial Bus section or anwhere else in there, have tried it in every USB port.. it charges from them all.. but nothing else. I'm so frustrated

This is happening to me also. After installing Windows 7-64, the sync with my Ipod freezes after a couple of songs transfers. Tried everything imaginable: Itunes reinstall, execute with compability to VIsta, energy safe mode off to USB ports/hubs, cable change, restore Ipod. IPhone not recognised in iTunes after upgrading to 10.0.1

Hi, I hope someone out there can help with a problem I have with my iPhone 3GS currently running 4.1.
I recently upgraded to iTunes 10.0.1 and iTunes has not worked correctly since.
When I connect my iPhone to PC with a USB I receive the usual pop-up asking what I would like to do with the device, but when I open iTunes, the phone is not located and listed in Devices (devices not even shown on the menu).
I have tried all manner of different things to fix;
Restarted PC
Restarted iPhone
Opened iTunes before connecting phone
Connected phone before starting iTunes
Connected using different USB cables
Used different USB ports
Restarted Apple Mobile Device and iPod Service in Administrative Tools > Services
Uninstalled 10.0.1 and re-installed a previous version of iTunes
After all this, my iPhone is still not being recognised in iTunes.
Can anybody out there help please??

Hopefully someone on here might be able to help me also =)
I can't be 100% certain when but pretty sure it's since I updated to itunes 10 I haven't been able to sync or charge my iphone through my laptop, although it still charges through mains charger. My laptop makes a noise when I plug the iphone in but does not recognise it in windows or itunes. I have tried the above steps but cannot locate the phone anywhere in device manager or when in recovery mode. Have tried different cables and usb drives aswell as restarting etc.
Any advice appreciated
