Alcor Micro Card Reader
When I tried to upload pictures from the memory chip out of my camera the card reader does not recognize the memory chip. HP had an update driver for the Alcor Micro Card Reader but it would not install. My computer is an HP Pavilion p6-2378, Win. 8.1, 64 bit the Alcor Micro Card Reader Driver is for a 32 bit so I was wondering if there was a way I could get a newer Alcor Micro Card Reader program because when I went to the Alcor company they said that they only sold to companies like HP that built the computers. I was told by one of the techs from HP to reinstall the Alcor Micro Card Reader from the recovery disks but if the Alcor Micro Card Reader would not install the new driver why would I want to go to the trouble to reinstall. It don'ta make sense. Is there any help out there?

Lenovo Miix 2 11 256GB 3G windows 8.1 64 bit.
After 1.5 months I just registered today that my 32GB micro SD card doesnt show in Windows 8.1. Card is readeable fine with generic USB multi card reader. I have also tried 16GB Samsung Micro SD card and same.
No sound when inserting micro SD card, no reaction whatsoever.
Reinstalled with supplied Genesys USB Mass Storage Device (4.3.0.7)
Reinstalled with newest drivers from lenovo website (same version though)
Tried this workaround
http://kingoftweaks.blogspot.de/2014/03/sluggish-sd-slot-and-fix-for-miix-2-8.html
Any idea what else to do? My next step is backup of the entire disk and do recovery to see if tis hardware or software related.Updating the BIOS fixed this for me.

Cannot transfer photos and videos from sandisk micro memory card reader to i photo in mac book pro. The photos were taken on my samsung phone. The chip was then placed in the sandisk and plugged into laptop. They appear in finder window but I don't know how to get them into i photo.
Select one file and type Command+A (Select All) to select all at one time.

Alcor card reader not recognising SD card, Windows 8.1
My card reader stopped reading my SD card (formatted for Nikon SLR). I hunted around and saw that the only new software on the PC was the Alcor software, so I uninstalled it and, hey presto!, the card reader works again.
However, the HP update service keeps reinstalling the software - every time it does, the card reader stops working until I uninstall it.
How can I resolve this?
Thanks.
HP Pavilion p6-2388ea, Windows 8.1 64-bitHi oldblackswan,
Open HP Support Assistant (HPSA).
Click "Settings".
Then select "check for updates but let me choose when to download and install".
This will stop HPSA from automatically reinstalling the Alcor driver.

I have a Samsung 32GB sdhc class 10 micro card but my mac(intel) running OSX 10.9.1 maverick does neither read or recognise the card apple have no answer?
I have the same problem with a 32GB SanDisk card. In fact, I have the same problem with all my SDHC cards—none of them are recognised by Mavericks (10.9.2 here). I'm on an early 2011 MBP.
In order to get images and video from my camera I have to tether it and upload via the camera.
Prior to Mavericks I was on Lion, where the same SDHC cards mounted with no problems. -
TS2634 How come my ipad2 Apple card reader cannot read micro sd card?
How come my Apple card reader cannot read micro sd card?
How are the photos getting onto the card ? If you are copying them onto it from your computer then you need to create a DCIM directory off the root of the card, with the photos underneath it, and the photo filenames need to be exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension i.e. in a similar format as if a camera had created/written them.
If the camera has written them to the card then is the reader fully inserted in the dock ? -
Why won't my iMac recognize my micro sd card through my card reader?
I restarted my computer twice and it still doesnt work... This has never happened to me before.
Do you have your Finder Preferences set to show external disks on the desktop? And is your reader USB? Readers to fail - they are just hardware and can (and will) fail at some point. Do you have another card reader and/or have you tried it on all your USB ports (to rule out a port problem)?

[solved] SD card in my card reader does not appear as a device
Greetings.
I have an Asus EEE 1015PEM netbook, which has a built-in card reader.
I found some old SD cards that I am trying to get files from. When I insert them into the SD card reader in my netbook, the SD card does not appear as a device, and thus, I cannot mount it.

Come to think of it, I am not sure I ever tried my SD card reader since I installed Arch on the machine (the machine was running Ubuntu before that, and there, inserting an SD card would trigger some automount magic).
You guys know what I can do to access the files on my SD cards?
Cheers,
Willard.

Usually, the sd card should appear as /dev/mmcX, right? How can I get started?Accoring to this wiki, it could: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/HCL/Card_Readers
Anyway, /dev/sdb is a SATA disk.

I'm having nasty card reader trouble. I got 3 different ones. Although they are cheap, all of them work just fine on other machines. However, on my Mac Pro, they're either not recognized and mounted, or transfer speeds are around the 500kb/sec range, which is absurd.
I just tried reinstalling Leopard from scratch, and it's all the same.
What could be wrong?i'm using no usb hub
on the usb bus i have an external sound card (mbox2) and the occasional external hard drive.
usually I connect the card reader on the front usb
i don't know the manufacturers names, they're not printed on the product (yes, they're cheap - but they work on other machines!!). all i can tell is they're based on alcor micro usb card reader chips, because that's the product ID I get on the system profiler

[SOLVED] Multimedia Card Reader

Last edited by mouni (2011-07-30 20:54:46)I'm assuming the card reader is working.
If you prefer to mount the card by hand, insert the card and type 'dmesg' in the terminal. Look at the lines at the bottom:

In this case the device's name is sdb (it may be a different name in your case). I know that the device I'm mountings has a partition , so I mount the first partition of the device:
[karol@black ~]$ mount /dev/sdb1 /media/usb/
[karol@black ~]$ ls /media/usb/

You can try mounting the whole device (see: /dev/sdb, not sdb1 here)
[karol@black ~]$ mount /dev/sdb /media/usb/
mount: you must specify the filesystem type
which works in some cases, but not for the mp3 player I used in this example :-) -

I have a Lenovo IdeaCentre, purchased only four weeks ago. It product family is IdeaCentre k410, machine type 10089. Anyhow, the problem is: I inserted a microSD / microSDHC, both of which seem to fit into the slot fine, though neither registers under anywhere in windows explorer, neither in the root of C://, nor in any of the subdirectories, or on the main listing of mounted file systems. I used the Lenovo Driver Updater and re-installed the SD Card Reader driver, to no avail. Any help would greatly be appreciated. As well, the computer runs Windows 8, which has some features I'm unhappy with, and although this is not a windows forum and I don't mean to create a thread that deviates from lenovo-specific topics, I was wondering if there is anything in either the machine architecture or the software of Windows 8 that could hinder m in installing a dual-boot system so that I might have the option of running a variant of linux as a sub-operating system, as I did with windows XP.????? OK any help at all would be so greatly appreciated, thank in advance. I really want to be able to retrieve some writing files I have stored in that micro SDHC card. As another aside, does anyone know the max limit of RAM this computer can take and if it is DDR or some other type?
hi BrokenHalo,
Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
Regarding your questions:
1. When you inserted the SD card, do you hear a sound that a device is inserted and under Device Manger, do you see a Card Reader?
If not, try to:
a. boot intto the BIOS by pressing F1, load defaults by pressing F9 then press F10 to save and exit BIOS.
b. Reseat the front panel connectors (see page 23 of the hardware maintenance manual)
2. To install linux (i.e. Ubuntu), see if you can install Ubuntu via UEFI. If you're unable to do so or if you want to install other OS, try to:
a. Boot into the BIOS by pressing F2 and set the following settings below
UEFI Boot Mode = Legacy
Secure Boot = Disabled (if applicable)
CSM = Disabled / Legacy or Other OS (if applicable)
OS Optimized Default = Disabled or Legacy (if applicable)
b. When finished, press F10 to save and exit BIOS then try to install Ubuntu via Wubi or insert your Windows installation disc to install a different OS.
3. As per this pdf data sheet, the Lenovo K410 has a max RAM of 8GB PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3 but Crucial reports that this unit can take up to 16GB PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3 - check this site.
Hope this helps

Tried with a 2gb SD card and a 512mb one, same effect. Couldn't find much on google other then how-to's that don't specifically note inability to write to cards, which makes me think someone has gotten write support working. If anyone has gotten this hardware to write to SD cards I'd like to know how you did it. Thanks for reading.my lspci

If I can mount the card writing to it works, but I have a strange problem here.
Sometimes when I insert a SD card udev creates /dev/mmcblk0 and I can't mount it.
And sometimes, with the same card, udev creates /dev/mmcblk0p1 and I CAN mount it.
I read that its handled like a hard-disk, but don't remember where and if my memories are correct. However...
mmcblk0 is the disk
mmcblk0p1 is the first partition
Anybody knows how to solve this udev problem?
