ALE IDOC related basic question
Hi Gurus,
I am new for SAP please clarify my quary.
In SAP R/3 we have the one data base server, every one have authorization for access data form data base, they can extract data from data base, that time what is the need to distribute the data form one client to another client using ALE throug IDOC and some other methods also.
Hi i have the doubt on this, Please dont feel cilly.. please clarify me clearly.
Thanks & Regards
Sri Sairam
Hi Sai.
Very good question, first think is data is client dependent. Dont think that all user will have access to all clients of the SAP system. In some projects we can see different clients in the same server (lets take development box), in one client we can develop the program and in another we can do the unit testing. In this case if you want to keep the data in both clients then we need to distribute them. You may have seperate clients based on the application also (like client for FI, seperate one for SD, like that - in dev to do testing).
But in most of the cases we can see data distribution scenarios in between 2 servers, since master data will be maintained seperately.
Thanks

Error in ALE-IDOC related to HR data posting in ECC 6.0
Hello People,
Upgradation done from 4.6B to ECC 6.0.
Here the data comes from the 3rd part s/w and then gets posted through a Z program which in tern calls SAP standard program " RSEINB00" and FM "IDOC_INBOUND_FROM_FILE" is used in this std program to post the data to the corresponding HR tables through IDOC postings.
ALE-IDOC Z program works fine in 4.6B but gives error in ECC 6.0.
Error in subroutine read_namtb for structure of infotype Message no. 5-109 Diagnosis An error has occurred in subroutine read_namtb for structure of infotype .
Procedure
Check the entry for infotype in table T777D (structure, IDoc segment, expanded structure) and the corresponding structures.
As per the error message it seems that some table () needs to be maintained with some values, but this was working fine with the 4.6 B with current settings.
Is this error due to version change to ECC 6.0? What extra settings need to be done with respect to IDOC so that the posting program works fine without giving the stated error. Kindly let me know.
Thanks and regards,
Gaurav Joshi. Please keep in mind ECC 6.0 is an UniCode based system.
as 4.6C was not,
did the Z-program have been tested before in the current environment?
Some special functions (keywords hints ...) are no longer supported after the upgrade.,
this was shown during the upgrade in the unicode migration tools
For sure all the own programms needs to be verfied, after an upgrade.
commonly this should be done
in the quality assurance test to avoid touble in production. -
ALE Idoc Change Pointer Question
Though I selected Transfer Immediately on Partner Profile screen, why Idoc hasn't been generated and transmitted?. Why do I have run RBDMIDOC explicitely to pickup change pointers?. Appreciate your responses.
Hi Appana,
Thank you for your time. I did checked all these steps still no luck.
1.Go to the Data Element of the field and check whether change doucment option is checked or not .
DONE
2.change the value of the field and check the entries in CDHDR and CDPOS.here u can check the change document object and table .
DONE
3.check BDCP table also incase of ALE.The program RBDMIDOC generates IDOc when there is an entry in BDCP.
if not check the following config
1.BD61- change pointers activated -generally
DONE
2.BD50 -Activate change pointers for ur message type
DONE
3.BD52 - add the triggering fields and corresponding tables and change document object.
DONE
Please check the entries in BDCP table ,if u find the entries execute the program RBDMIDOC
DONE
Any places I missed ? Please note usual ALE config has been done like SM59,WE,20,WE21 etc. Iam basically sending this Idoc to XI and then to 3rd party system. -

durga kottapalliHi,
Reprocessing IDocs with errors
Outbound (BD88)
Once the error has been determined and corrected it is not necessary to resend the IDoc again. You simply resend the IDocs that have already been generated.
Using the IDoc overview screen you need to take note of the following for each IDoc that was not processed:
Error number: 2, 4, 5, 25, 29
Error number: 30 (Execute Check IDoc dispatch to process)
IDoc number
Using the Error number, the IDoc number and the transaction BD88 , with the required message type you can resend the IDoc. Match the error number with this transaction and execute the function for the IDocs incorrectly processed.
Just check the below link, u will get all IDOC related Interview questions

Basic Questions related EHPs for SEM
Hi Guys,
I've some basic questions related to EHPs: -
1. If we don't mean to implement any of the new functionalities does it make any sense to implement EHP? In other words do EHPs also have some general improments other than the functionalities which can be specifically activated?
2. If we just activate a functionality and don't implement/ use it can there be any negative impact?
3. In case of a pure technical upgrade from SEM 4.0 to SEM 6.0 which EHP would be recommended?
4. Is there a quick way to find all relevant notes in EHPn which are related to corrections for EHPn-1?
Thanks in advance,
-SSCHI,
If you see some of my older posts I have had many issues with certain features of the EHP2 functionality but that doesn't mean I would recommned against it.
BCS 6 EHPs 3 & 4 (BCS 6.03 / 6.04) - enhancement packs worth implementing?
BCS 6 EHP 2 (BCS 6.02) - activation of enhancement pack
My recommendation is to implement the EHPs but not necesarrily activate the functions (in SFW5) unless you need them - this means that you will only have to test once after EHP implementation and will have the ability to activate the other features as and when required (although testing is required after activation of course) whereas it might be difficult to persuade your client/basis team to implement EHP4 later if you don't do it now.
In the features of EHP2 (activate FIN_ACC_GROUP_CLOSE) it states that there is a general performance improvement - although I have yet to experience it! From OSS note 1171344 "The functionality which is available in EHP2 consists of...
... Performance improvements of status management, reporting and initial start-up of consolidation workbench and monitor.
Since activating FIN_ACC_GROUP_CLOSE I have had many OSS notes requiring application but i discovered that when the technical team implemented the EHPs (before i joined this client) they somehow forgot the latest SP (support packs) and didn't upgrade to the current level - so make sure that you get the right SPs too (see the links in Greg's link above) to avoid the many OSS notes.
As for your question - "is there a list of OSS notes to specific to EHP upgrades? - the answer is most definietly "NO" - I already asked OSS in desperation!
however, you can see the OSS notes that i have applied listed in the above link ( BCS 6 EHP 2 (BCS 6.02) - activation of enhancement pack ) -
I need to learn ALE IDOC- Basic of ALE
Hi,
I am new to ALE IDOC, can u tell me the basic of ALE, or the sites for searching ALE.
A sample program that demonstrates the ALE, what are the transactions to be used and the Steps to implement ALE.
Thanks in advanceHi
ALEApplication Link Enabling (ALE) is a mechanism for the
exchange of business data between loosely-coupled R/3
applications built by customers of SAP, the enterprise
resource management program. ALE provides SAP customers
with a program distribution model and technology that
enables them to interconnect programs across various
platforms and systems.

ALE, Idocs question.
Hi everybody,
If I have a ECC instance installed on a machine (M1) and a Netweaver with abap stack on other machine (M2). Can I communicate them via Idocs? My question is because I do not know if a have all the ALE-Idocs functionality on the Netweaver machine M2.
Thanks in advance. The idea is a ECC running on a netwaeaver (M1) and a standalone netweaver (M2).
Thanks for your answer. -
Hi to all,
I have some doubts regarding ALE/IDOC can any one tell me answers to those question.
1. what is a process code? what is the purpose of process code?
2. what is a stand alone program?
3.How to handle to errors in ale/idoc?
4. ALE processes in asynchronous why?
5. How to run idocs in parallel?
6.What is a posting program
7. Can any one can send me one complete ALE/IDOC scenario with documentation ?
Please send me the answers to this mail id [email protected]Hi guys,
I must thank every one of you for sending such quick and helpful responses. I bought the book "ALE, EDI and IDOC" from Aravind Nagpal and its a great book for beginner as well as for an expert. I have started practising ALE my PC by logging into 2 clients and it is working fine. I was able to send and receive the IDOC.
Thank you again.
This is a great forum,
Cheers,
Mahesh.

IDOC-Intermediate documents
BAPI-Business ApplicationProgramInterface
BADI-Bsuiness Addins
RFC-Remote Function call
ALE-Application liniking and enabling
The interface concept of the classic R/3 is based on two different strategies: Remote Function Calls (RFC) and data exchange through IDoc message documents. RFC makes direct and synchronous calls of a program in the remote system. If the caller is an external program it will call an RFC-enabled function in R/3 and if the calling program is the R/3 system it will call an RFC-function in another R/3-system or it will call a non-R/3 program through a gateway-proxy (usually rfcexec.exe). BAPIs are a subset of the RFC-enabled function modules, especially designed as Application Programming Interface (API) to the SAP business object, or in other words: are function modules officially released by SAP to be called from external programs.
IDocs are text encoded documents with a rigid structure that are used to exchange data between R/3 and a foreign system. Instead of calling a program in the destination system directly, the data is first packed into an IDoc and then sent to the receiving system, where it is analyzed and properly processed. Therefore an IDoc data exchange is always an asynchronous process. The significant difference between simple RFC-calls and IDoc data exchange is the fact, that every action performed on IDocs are protocolled by R/3 and IDocs can be reprocessed if an error occurred in one of the message steps.
While IDocs have to be understood as a data exchange protocol, EDI and ALE are typical use cases for IDocs. R/3 uses IDocs for both EDI and ALE to deliver data to the receiving system. ALE is basically the scheduling mechanism that defines when and between which partners and what kind of data will be exchanged on a regular or event triggered basis. Such a set-up is called an ALE-scenario.
The philosophical difference between EDI and ALE can be pinned as follows: If we send data to an external partner, we generally speak of EDI, while ALE is a mechanism to reliable replicate data between trusting systems to store a redundant copy of the IDoc data. The difference is made clear, when we think of a purchase order that is sent as an IDoc. If we send the purchase order to a supplier then the supplier will store the purchase order as a sales order. However, if we send the purchase order via ALE to another R/3 system, then the receiving system will store the purchase order also as a purchase order.

In " XI"
IDOC ---> Will be used to sending data in Async mode ...
It is very standard and for better performance Async case
RFC --- > Function module and general will be used to make call to function
sending the function (XI has RFC adapter)
BAPI ---> Other version of RFC (Objected oriented) mostly we will use for Sync
calls (Mostly in XI using proxies we will call BAPI's)
I hope this will answer your question

Thanks & Regards,
ajay kodali.Hi,
Data Creation in Idoc
IDocs are text encoded documents with a rigid structure that are used to exchange data between R/3 and a foreign system. Instead of calling a program in the destination system directly, the data is first packed into an IDoc and then sent to the receiving system, where it is analyzed and properly processed. Therefore an IDoc data exchange is always an
asynchronous process.
IDoc is a intermediate document to exchange data between two SAP Systems.
*IDocs are structured ASCII files (or a virtual equivalent).
*Electronic Interchange Document
*They are the file format used by SAP R/3 to exchange data with foreign systems.
*Data Is transmitted in ASCII format, i.e. human readable form
*IDocs exchange messages
*IDocs are used like classical interface files
IDOC types are templates for specific message types depending on what is the business document, you want to exchange.
WE30 - you can create a IDOC type.
An IDOC with data, will have to be triggered by the application that is trying to send out the data.
FOr testing you can use WE19.
How to create idoc?
*WE30 - you can create a IDOC type
For more information in details on the same along with the examples can be viewed on:

To Create Idoc we need to follow these steps:
Create Segment ( WE31)
Create Idoc Type ( WE30 )
Create Message Type ( WE81 )
Assign Idoc Type to Message Type ( WE82 )
Creating a Segment
Go to transaction code WE31
Enter the name for your segment type and click on the Create icon
Type the short text
Enter the variable names and data elements
Save it and go back
Go to Edit -> Set Release
Follow steps to create more number of segments
Create IDOC Type
Go to transaction code WE30
Enter the Object Name, select Basic type and click Create icon
Select the create new option and enter a description for your basic IDOC type and press enter
Select the IDOC Name and click Create icon
The system prompts us to enter a segment type and its attributes
Choose the appropriate values and press Enter
The system transfers the name of the segment type to the IDOC editor.
Follow these steps to add more number of segments to Parent or as Parent-child relation
Save it and go back
Go to Edit -> Set release
Create Message Type
Go to transaction code WE81
Change the details from Display mode to Change mode
After selection, the system will give this message The table is cross-client (see Help for further info). Press Enter
Click New Entries to create new Message Type
Fill details
Save it and go back
Assign Message Type to IDoc Type
Go to transaction code WE82
Change the details from Display mode to Change mode
After selection, the system will give this message The table is cross-client (see Help for further info). Press Enter.
Click New Entries to create new Message Type.
Fill details
Save it and go back

An IDoc is simply a data container that is used to exchange information between any two processes that can understand the syntax and semantics of the data...
1.IDOCs are stored in the database. In the SAP system, IDOCs are stored in database tables.
2.IDOCs are independent of the sending and receiving systems.
3.IDOCs are independent of the direction of data exchange.
The two available process for IDOCs are
Outbound Process
Inbound Process
AND There are basically two types of IDOCs.
Basic IDOCs
Basic IDOC type defines the structure and format of the business document that is to be exchanged between two systems.
Extended IDOCs
Extending the functionality by adding more segments to existing Basic IDOCs.
To Create Idoc we need to follow these steps:
Create Segment ( WE31)
Create Idoc Type ( WE30)
Create Message Type ( WE81)
Assign Idoc Type to Message Type ( WE82)

Steps in Inbound Processing in ALE IDOC
Hi all,
Could anyone explain the steps to be followed in inbound processing in ALE Idoc.
I know we have to create a FM n then call that in a program. But still the detail steps are not clear.
An example will be really helpful.
ThanxHi
Outbound:
Step 1. Application document is created when transaction is saved.
2. Message control is invoked.
3. Messages are processed by system.
4. Messages are Edited (if desired).
5. Output (ALE / EDI) is checked
6. Validate against Message control record from Partner Profile
7. Application Document is saved.
8. Entry NAST table is created for every selected output program
along with Medium & Timing.
9. Check for Process Immediately .
If (yes)
Determine Processing Program from TNAPR Table.
ELSE
Execute RSNASTED Program.
10. Read Partner Profile to determine Process Code.
11. Process Code points to the Function Module & Invoked.
12. IDoc is generated.
13. Check for ALE Request.
if (Yes)
Perform Filters, Conversions, Version Changes etc.
Else.
IDoc is stored in DATABASE.
INBOUND:
Step 1. EDI Subsystem creates an IDoc file from EDI Messages
2. Subsystem calls Functional Module EDI_DATA_INCOMING from startRFC program.
3. Data in Control Record is validate against the Partner Profile.
4. IDoc is generated in Database and syntax check is carried out.
5. IDoc file is deleted once file read.
6. Event PROCESSSTATE REACHED is triggered in Idoc Object Workflow.
7. Check for Process Immediately.
If NO
Execute RBDAPP01 Program
Else
Read Process Code from Partner Profile
Process Code Points to Function Module

Data Creation in Idoc
IDocs are text encoded documents with a rigid structure that are used to exchange data between R/3 and a foreign system. Instead of calling a program in the destination system directly, the data is first packed into an IDoc and then sent to the receiving system, where it is analyzed and properly processed. Therefore an IDoc data exchange is always an
asynchronous process.

Instead of calling a program in the destination system directly, the data is first packed into an IDoc and then sent to the receiving system, where it is analyzed and properly processed. Therefore an IDoc data exchange is always an
asynchronous process.
