Alert #68: Oracle Security Update

Hi All ,
I am new to the world of Oracle EBS and I was recently assigned the DBA task in my company for the ebs 11.5.10.2 that was installed be a former DBA .
Our security department are following up on a security update by oracle in the link .
http://www.oracle.com/technology/deploy/security/pdf/2004alert68.pdf
I see that my database is version 9.2.0.6 so I do not think I need to do anything there . Is that true ?
For the application server , Can someone help me to find what version I have ? Also , How do I apply the patch if needed .
I also do not know if the former DBA already installed the patch or not how do I find out ?
Thanks

Saeed,
You do not need to install any iAS rollup patch since you are on the latest one.
For Oracle HTTP Server security patches, you need to have Patch 3835781 installed. This is already explained in the following notes:

    Fellow user Grant Bennet-Alder offers this solution:
    Some users have reported this problem if the Mail Application has been moved out of the top-level /Applications folder, or duplicated in another location.
    When the Security Update is done, the old version of Mail is disabled.
    The solution has been to:
    1) make certain Mail is in the /Applications folder
    2) There is no other copy anywhere else.
    3) Once steps 1 and 2 have been done, Manually download and re-apply the Security Update (2012-004) by hand.

    If the Mail.app has been LOST, it can be re-installed by applying the 10.6.8 version 1.1 combo update. But this update is quite large and it is usually not necessary:

    with regrads to the below thread which mostly talks about Oracle Security Alert for CVE-2012-1675 "TNS Listener Poison Attack"....i just wanted to find out if this effect DB that are externally or internally....meaning 95% of our DB are in network(internally) behind our firewall....and rest of the 5% are outside our firewall facing the world wide web....so does this apply to both of just one ?The attack is on the Listener itself - so if you want to prevent this attack, you need to secure that Listener, irrespective of its location.
    IMO, mandatory if you expose your Listener to an unsecured or public network (e.g. internet).
    As for Listeners running on your internal network - if this attack is used, securing your Listeners mean very little IMO. Because your internal network already needs to be compromised in order for the attack to occur. Which means you have far more serious problems then someone attacking your Listeners.

    Hi,
    I want to know more about recent release "Oracle Security Alert" : http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/topics/security/alert-cve-2012-1675-1608180.html
    Document available in https://support.oracle.com/CSP/main/article?cmd=show&type=NOT&id=1453883.1
    Fix is about Class of Secure Transport (COST). I need to know about elaborate steps to find out whether this change is need to apply to my databases or not.
    About my DBs : 10.2.4 , AIX, Nondefault Listener, Shared env , non RAC, local_listener is null & running in pfile.
    Thx,
    Gowin.

    Hello;
    Apply it. Very clean. Simple. No outage on Non-RAC. Biggest Impact is listener stop and start. Took about 3 minutes per server.
    Tested today and had zero issues. ( Assumed you understood a CONNECT was part of the test ). Zero issues.
    Had a thread on this here a few days ago :

    See Oracle Support Note 1453883.1 for additional information.

    Hi there,
    first, "SQLNET.CRYPTO_SEED = 'KakdlkLAKMXM0000sdsdsadadeffdmsdmdkmdv" is no longer needed, the DB creates a seed itself and ignores this string.
    Then, on to TDE ...: These things happen if you had a wallet before, and that wallet was deleted; now if you create a new wallet, the TS MK is missing. Looks like you didn't encrypt any data yet. You might see if you get https://updates.oracle.com/download/8682102.html for your DB version; apply the patch, decrypt all data, cycle through all log files and then create a new wallet. That might work, but I can't promise.

  • Mac Mini (intel) freezes after Security Update

    On May 16th I downloaded and installed ´Security Update 2006-003 (Intel)´ on my Mac Mini. Since then I have been unable to have any other session with it than in "safe boot" mode.
    Then, on May 18th, during one of these "safe" sessions, I also downloaded and tried to install ´Mac Mini SMC Firmware Update´, hoping that this could be the resolve. The initial behaviour changed slightly, but that was all.
    When I now look for upgrades, I get the message that the latter is available for download, so it has obviously not been activated.
    I have been keeping the ´box´on for days in case there was some process going on in the background that would resolve it, but in vain.
    As something appears to have entered the machine with these updates, are there any way to reverse them and throw them out?
    Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.6)
    Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Thanks for your reply!
    To adress your questions in sequence:
    1 - After powering up, the grey Apple screen emerges, and shortly after the rotating wheel of bars starts going. Then the screen changes to blue, and the shield showing "Starting Mac OS X" has its blue ribbon rotating up towards 100%. Now, here things may change from time to time, sometimes it reaches 100%, sometimes not. But the next phase is the same; a shift to a dull blue-gray screen with nothing on it, which remains until I eventually give in and presses the power off button for some seconds. I even left it like this this for a day, to make sure nothing was going on behind, but in vain.
    2 - I am not sure about your meaning "Since the computer operates normally in Safe mode....", I did not normally operate it in safe mode, it became a necessity after the download I mentioned. Tried to look in the suggested FAQ, but did not find anything I found relevant. (But then -being new to Macs - maybe I did just not understand it?)
    3 - The Security update was the last of 7 updates that was downloaded from the Apple Support pages, the others being: QuickTime v7.1, Front Row Update v1.1.2, iDVD Update v.6.0.2, iWeb Update v1.1, iPhoto Update v6.0.3 and iMovie HD Update 6.0.2. As I said, I am new to the Apple structure, so I do not know if these softwares are regarded as third-party or not.
    There is, however, as far as I can see, nothing that indicates that any type of panic with the core is declared during start-up, it just becomes incommunicado!
    4 - Obviously, the most attractive option I can see is to follow your advices here. But the mentioning of specific versions of CD in conjunction with re-installatin alerts me somewhat. What I got with my Mac Mini are two CDs; ´Mac OS X Install Disc 1´ (Labelled Mac mini) and ´Mac OS X Install Disc 2´. Does this means that I am unable to do Archiving?
    Finally, I have some other topics (Basically with QuickTime) with this Mac Mini as well, that was the reason I started looking for updates in the first place, that will become important again when I overcome this blow. But as I am looking around in the forums I become increasingly aware that there are lots of people experiencing similar problems to myself (Poor functioning of Airport, problems using flat-screens as monitor), and now this one. I mean to see a pattern, and that is that there are significant differences in functionallity between OS X for the "normal" processor and the one for Intel. How deep goes this difference? There is obviously softwares for OS X that cannot run on this machine, and how do I keep them out?
    Hoping for some more helpful hints
    Best Regards,
    Ole

  • PHP/MySQL issue after security update 2010-005

    Hello,
    I run Apache/PHP/MySQL on my MBP for testing Web sites.
    After the 2010-005 security update I can't connect to my databases anymore.
    I don't know how to fix this, I even don't know where to start looking.
    Ideas, anyone?

    etresoft, thanks for sharing this ... I decided to go with the TriangleJuice suggestion instead for two reasons ... first is that I wasn't sure where to find this launchd file.
    There is nothing wrong with TriangleJuice's suggestion. My only issue with creating a php.ini file is that now I have to worry about all those other settings in the ini file. If something else in PHP breaks, I have to figure out if I am the one who broke it.
    Apple ships MySQL with MacOS X Server. They probably adjusted the PHP settings to match how they have MySQL setup in MacOS X Server.
    For MySQL's, no, Sun's - drat! no, Oracle's part, they still haven't acknowledged the fact that Apple has shipped MacOS X 10.4. MySQL still ships with a Startup Item. If you don't know where the launchd file is, it is because you don't have one. You probably have a MySQL entry in /Library/StartupItems or maybe /System/Library/StartupItems. Startup Items were deprecated in 10.4. Oracle should be creating a file named com.mysql.mysqld.plist in /Library/LaunchDaemons.
    Here is what mine looks like now:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
    <plist version="1.0">
    <dict>
    <key>KeepAlive</key>
    <true/>
    <key>Label</key>
    <string>com.mysql.mysqld</string>
    <key>ProgramArguments</key>
    <array>
    <string>/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqld</string>
    <string>--socket=/var/mysql/mysql.sock</string>
    <string>--basedir=/usr/local/mysql</string>
    <string>--datadir=/usr/local/mysql/data</string>
    <string>--user=mysql</string>
    <string>--log-error=/usr/local/mysql/data/Pele.local.err</string>
    <string>--pid-file=/usr/local/mysql/data/Pele.local.pid</string>
    </array>
    <key>RunAtLoad</key>
    <true/>
    </dict>
    </plist>
    I also don't have a /var/mysql directory and wasn't sure whether I should just create one or if this meant my configuration was different. If you feel like explaining any of this, I'd be curious to know.
    You have to create one. Such a directory probably already exists on MacOS X Server. Just make sure it is owned by mysql.
    sudo mkdir /var/mysql
    sudo chown _mysql:staff /var/mysql
    sudo chmod 0755 /var/mysql
    [jdaniel@Pele:516] /var $ ls -al /private/var | grep mysql
    drwxr-xr-x 3 _mysql staff 102 Aug 26 20:03 mysql
    Of course, /var is a symbolic link to /private/var. Long story there.

  • How do I know if the security update is really from Firefox?

    I just had a screen shot advising me of a 'Security Update' and I was strongly advised to install it.
    It offered a webpage for further investigation and an 'Install' button ... I was busy, doing several things at once and by mistake I clicked 'Install' and whatever it was downloaded .. then I thought to myself '''what was that?'''
    there did not appear to be any way to verify who, why, what, where etc...
    it said the 'Security Update' would take effect the next time the browser was restarted - which hasn't occurred yet, I sincerely hope it wasn't malicious!

    I just ran a scan and all was '''Clean''', when I re-started FF it said '''Installing Updates'''
    Although, it was my fault, as usual, I didn't read the screen good enough before clicking 'Install', however, I would say that the 'Security Update Alert' could do with looking a little more, er, how do I say this, Security Minded or Authenticated somehow .. having said that, when I compare FF to IE I find I like FF much better. I haven't long made the change to FF and this was the first 'Security Update' I encountered.
    thanks for the advise on the Malware Scan - appreciated

  • HT1222 Weird security update Java for OS X 2013-003

    Why is the security update Java for OS X 2013-003 causing my 15" rMBP to start displaying a flashing window asking me if I want to allow the application "java" to accept incoming network connections?
    OS X 10.8.3

    It appears that these errors are arising because:
    Oracle Java has been installed on your system,
    there is some add-on code that is running, and that is using Oracle Java components,
    the add-on code is attempting to initiate network connections,
    and the Oracle Java connections are failing.
    Basically, there is Oracle Java code running here somewhere — code which is not part of OS X, as OS X 10.7 and later do not include Oracle Java by default — and this (unknown) code is using Oracle Java and the Java Virtual Machine (JVM), and the code is encountering some new "defensive' measures.  Or is encountering an Oracle Java bug, which would be an Oracle issue with their Oracle Java product.
    Y'all have to figure out what code is running here (and that is dependent on Oracle Java and the JVM), and if the code is expected and necessary here, to then work with the vendor to resolve the behavior here and/or upgrade to the provider's current version of the software.
    Based on the DDService64d reference, there appears to be Drobo software here, and some Drobo software apparently requires Java and the JVM.  Here is some information from Drobo.  (There's a recommendation there to disable Gatekeeper, and — while that likely does resolve the issues referenced — I'd prefer to avoid disabling Gatekeeper in general.)
    Again, figure out what's installed and using Java here.  Remove it, upgrade it, or check with the vendor.
    Oracle Java does have a recent history of various serious security issues, and it's common practice to disable the Oracle Java web-start plug-in, or to entirely avoid installing Oracle Java on OS X on 10.7 and later.  If you're not using and don't need Oracle Java, then don't install it.   If you've previously installed Oracle Java and don't need it (as is the case on OS X 10.7 and later), reportedly Oracle has a tool which can remove Oracle Java.
    note: Oracle Java is completely different from JavaScript.

  • Bug in wls1036_generic.jar Cannot uncheck "registier for Security Update"

    Hello,
    I downloaded the wls1036_generic.jar from the Oracle Service Bus site. I got the gui running, and got to the part where it asks if you what security updates. I am just testing, so I usually uncheck it. It gives the usual verbiage, but when I click no (I do not want security updates), the checkbox is still checked. Cannot proceed!
    Also, what gives? The generic downloaded from the SERVICE BUS page does not contain OEPE??????

    Edited by: Stuart Fleming on Apr 14, 2013 3:28 AM

    Hi Stuart,
    Regarding the issue with the wls1036_generic.jar, I have seen this occur with the wls1034_generic.jar, wls1035_generic.jar and wls1036_generic.jar. Fortunately, this is easy to work around. I assume you are referring to the page in the WebLogic installer where it asks for an MOS (My Oracle Support) username. If this is the case and you do not wish to receive the security updates from MOS, all you need to do is try to uncheck the box (the warning window will appear which you can click Yes). Although the check box shows that it is checked, it acts like it is unchecked. If you click on Next, two warning windows will appear asking the same thing as the first window. Click Yes on those. You may then receive a "Connection failed" window where it tries to connect to a proxy. In this window, place a check mark next to "I wish to remain uninformed..." and click Continue. The rest of the installer should continue as normal.

  • JAAS, jazn.xml, & oracle.security.jazn.config

    I have a swing application using LDAP to authenticate users that will typically be launched via Java Web Start, thus the application is deploy using a jar file.
    I can run this application from JDev or from the command-line when the jazn.xml file is located in the root (start-in) directory.
    Unfortunately, when the jazn.xml file is only in the jar file (as it would be when launched via JWS) the application cannot find it and throws an exception:
    oracle.security.jazn.JAZNInitException: d:\path\.\jazn-data.xml (The system cannot find the file specified).
    I found some documentation that indicates that I can specify the path to the jazn.xml file with
    System.setProperty("oracle.security.jazn.config", "path/to/jazn/xml/file");
    If I set it to a relative path without the filename on the end (ex. "./my/path" or "my/path") I get the above exception.
    If I set it to a relative path with the filename (ex. "./my/path/jazn.xml" or "my/path/jazn.xml") it works.
    What I can't figure out is how to tell it that it is in a jar file that is in my classpath. It doesn't find it from the path examples above. I've tried things like "client.jar/jazn.xml", "d:/my/path/client.jar/jazn.xml", and a host of other things with the jazn.xml filename on the end.
    Oddly enough, when I set it to "d:/my/path/client.jar" I get a different exception:
    Caused by: oracle.security.jazn.JAZNInitException: no protocol: "ldap://hostname.com:389">
         at oracle.security.jazn.spi.xml.FSXMLStore.<init>(FSXMLStore.java:128)
         ... 59 more
    Caused by: java.net.MalformedURLException: no protocol: "ldap://hostname.com:389">
         at java.net.URL.<init>(URL.java:537)
         at java.net.URL.<init>(URL.java:434)
         at java.net.URL.<init>(URL.java:383)
    So it seems like it read the file but parsed it incorrectly. Any ideas?

    Thanks for the reply Yvonne. Sorry I haven't updated this after my testing. I think you're close to correct.
    I did some more testing and figured out that any time the protocol is included in a path (protocol://d:/my/path/client.jar) that jazn does not understand. When the referenced file (jazn.xml) is in a jar file, it includes the protocol in the path. For example the path to the jazn.xml file (the value that the java.security.auth.policy property needs to be set to) would be jar:file://my/path/client.jar!/my/path/jazn.xml
    I think the oracle.security.jazn.spi.PolicyProvider (the value of the java.security.auth.policy.provider property) causes the jazn.xml file to be read. That class is, I think, what fails to find that file because it doesn't understand when the protocol (jar:file:) is included in the path to the file. That's my guess anyway.
    I did figure out a work around and it goes like this:
    1. create a new jazn.xml file
    File tmp = new File ("jazn.xml");
    2. and set it to be deleted on exit
    tmp.deleteOnExit();
    3. get a ByteArrayInputStream for the jazn.xml file and read it out of the jar file.
    4. then write the stream to the tmp file
    5. then set the system property
    System.setProperty("java.security.auth.policy", tmp.toURL().getPath());
    It is kind of a pain since I have to check to see if the property I'm setting is "jazn.xml", but it seems to work.
    I think the oracle.security.jazn.spi.PolicyProvider problem is a defect, which I'll report on meta-link.

    2008/06/19.18:06:34 Drive or volume on which mount attempted is unusable.
    - My Tape Device is SONY-SDX 550V and it is not in oracle tape drive support list.
    - OSB 10.2.0.2
    - Windows 2003 Operatin System
    - I went through the ob_drives file under ORACLE BACKUP HOME/device and added SDX 550V entry n this file and
    - I restarted Oracle_Secure_Backup service. But it does not work again.
    Your comment will be appreciated.

    Thank you for your help and negotiating to solve this problem.
    I am deploying your suggestion with two different type of tape drives
    1. Hp DAT 72 7438A existing in Oracle Tape Device Certified List
    2. SONY SDX-550V which is not exist in Oracle Tape Device Certified List
    Right now I am working on # 2 (SONY SDX-550V)
    the only modification in my configuration was using of new volume instead of
    old one and try to mount this new volume in write mount in
    Webtool --> Manage --> Drives.
