is there a third party software that will alert when a disc in a raid array is degraded or failed? right now, i have to open raid utility to see this. i would like to get a small alert so i can replace the disc quickly.
any ideas welcome.
thanks

I think there is something like <aa href=http://www.macupdate.com/search.php?arch=all&keywords=RAID&os=macosx> "RAID monitor"
( not rocket science )
Search http://www.macupdate.com
(as well as the usually news, tip, sites) on reports of how well it WORKS and for sending email alerts etc even.
There should be entries in system log of repeated I/O requests and failures, and look for attempts to reassign bad blocks as well.

  • HT201250 Using Time Capsule for Backing Up a RAID Array

I am setting up an 8TB RAID 0 array at home. I am going to use 4 - 2TB FW drives. I already have an SSD in my 3.4 Ghz i7 iMac but am speed hungry and since I have the drives, I figure I would play a bit. I know it is vital to have solid back-up for this, but I am unsure of the best back-up solution. I am wondering if I can attach 3 - 3TB drives to my 1TB Time Capsule and use the combined 10TB in Time Machine to back it up? To date I have backed up each drive separately, but am realizing the folly of that and want to explore RAID 0 at the same time as explore a new back-up solution. Everything I read tells me I need a drive for backing up the RAID array that is at least as large as the combined total of the array. That doesn't make sense if the array is so large... I can't find anywhere if Time Machine supports spanning mulitple back-up drives.

According to the document linked below, you can, but it may not have the performance to back up that much data. Over Wi-Fi, forget it.
Uses for the USB port of Time Capsule, AirPort Extreme, AirPort Express

otherwise you can use normal database auditing to capture detail in table.

  • Configuring Alerts For Failed Logins

I am confused about how to configuring OEM GC to utilize auditing and may not be asking the proper question. For example, if I wish to monitor failed login counts and create an alert to notify me, must I turn on auditing in the database first? I guess what I am asking is based on the tem, plates provided. Is it merely enough to enter values for the various events or must I do something further to turn them on? I realize the question is vague but that is a function of my understanding.
    Thanks.

Thanks.Yes.. you are right .. You need to enable that metric by setting threshold(You can do it through template or manual) and then configure notification rule for the same.

  • Can ACE send out email alerts for failed probes?

    hi guys:
Can ACE send out email alerts to users if the probes failed?
if no, is there any plan to put in this function in the future release?
    thanks a lot
i know the work around is to set up the sys-log and configure the sys-log server to send out the mail.

If there are no email alerts when a real server fails the probe and gets put out of rotation, how else will one know that the server is out of rotation.
Is this feature in the GUI ANM software?

  • Alerting for failed broadcasts

    Hi all,
is it possible to send an alert or e-mail,... whenever a broadcasting goes wrong (so when you get red entries in RSRD_LOG)?
I'm thinking about using the alert framework, but I don't know if you can use it for broadcasting monitoring.
CCMS is also ok for me.
    Anyone?

    FYI:
I found an OSS-note which should enable the monitoring via CCMS.
    Note is 883356.
I'm gonna try this and update the thread.

  • CCMS alert emails for failed jobs

    Hello All
What are the steps to set a ccms alert for failed jobs? Also is it possible to set ccms to warn us of long running jobs. I would like to set the sysem so that we get a email notification on any failed jobs or long running jobs.
I appreciate any input or leads.
    Thanks

    Hi,
You can get the alerts for failed jobs, Just maintain the realted setting in the ccms_onalert_email
maintain the address and then assign this as auto reaction method in your ccms template for background jobs.
Also i request to search SDN there are many threads related to auto reaction mails.

  • Xsan 2.3 qualified RAID Arrays

Hi there - I've been searching for documentation on "qualified RAID arrays" to work with the new Xsan 2.3 in lion. As Apple says in their release of lion that "Lion also supports industry-standard multipathing and failover, so Xsan can be used with a variety of Fibre Channel RAID storage arrays." (http://www.apple.com/macosx/server/) at the bottom. I pulled up mr. Manual and searched "qualified RAID Arrays" and I get to the section in chapter 3 "Supported Storage devices", and warned to make sure to use only an apple certified RAID array... For the latest information see www.apple.com/xsan/
So I click there... and it still only has the Promise Vtrak system labeled that was supported in v2.2.... Anybody had any luck finding a list of other supported arrays? Anybody currently running any other fibre arrays?
Would love to know! Thanks Everybody!
    Kyle

Well and it's not to say that the Promise's are bad - that's not what I'm saying at all, I just want the option. I'm just looking for other people that either have done the same research I'm doing - or are personally using a different array. There are many other arrays out there that are just as reliable and fast that have a much nicer price tag than Promise's stuff. Currently we are living off of 3 XserveRAID arrays, which is fast enough for our 3 workstations. But we're looking to add 5 more (1 final cut and 4 animation stations using AE and Maya/nuke). We are running an OLLldddd Xsan version (like 1.4.2 maybe?? don't have it in front of me) but Everything is needing a giant face lift... and with each lion box allowed to use Xsan the only thing holding us back is After Effects being compatible with Lion. Maya and nuke boxes actually can use AFP to get to the SAN and would be fine.
Anyways. I'll give you credit for a helpful answer - but I'm looking for more concrete choices
    Thanks

  • RAID array activation issue in CS2 & XP

Yes, I still have CS2, which I love, as well as Production Studio. I have used CS2 for years with a RAID array, first striped and now a mirror. The mirror array lasted about 10 months until the motherboard went. eVGA replaced the motherboard with the same model, I fiddled around a bit trying to get my same array up and running, I couldn't figure it out and ended up doing a reinstall (after a couple of weeks of running single drives). Anyway, I keep having to activate my Adobe Suites. I have talked to people (thick accents, maybe in India) three times now; takes a lot of time. I know that there is an issue with CS2 and RAID (XP and CS2 have all of their available updates). I tell them I have RAID. I ask for a patch to avoid the activation issue. I have been told that I "should not be using RAID", that I will "have to reactivate every time I boot" and that I won't be able to run this "without upgrading to CS4". I KNOW that this configuration will work, because it has worked in the past. I vaguely remember a patch when I originally installed.
I just called the Tech Support number, instead of the activation number. I also got someone with a thick accent who told me that he had no support available for CS2. He wouldn't give me a phone number to call, I asked about a patch and he "doesn't support CS2", end of discussion. He suggested the website. Ugh!
I am not locked out at this time, but have just done another reactivation. I suspect Adobe will put a stop to repeat activations. I worry about being locked out when I am under the gun trying to finish something. My son is working on a school project for the end of year right now. What can I do? Does anyone know where I can find a patch or talk to someone who will help a CS2 user?
I LIKE my RAID array. I know that my data is perfectly backed up at all times. I would prefer not to have to break the RAID array into single drives. I chose this MB because of the RAID capability.
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks Bob. I asked to speak to a supervisor with calls two and three to India, or wherever. One lady said they didn't have a supervisor and then said, well, of course we have supervisors, but they will not be able to help. I guess I could have thrown a fit, but neither was willing to connect me to a supervisor even though I asked. I did find it amusing (in a sad way) that the one lady initially denied that she had a supervisor.
I then called Customer Support (call number four) and they simply wouldn't talk to me. They don't deal with CS2, didn't want to talk to me at all.
I guess I'll try India again, next time it locks me out.
I'll go through old files (again) to see if I saved some kind of patch.
    Thanks again.

  • Failed Boot Camp Install of Vista 32 has broken one of my RAID arrays

Attempted to install Windows through Boot Camp on my Mac Pro, I have a RocketRaid 2320 controller card, RAID was built through Disk Utility. No redundancy, I built 2 separate 1.8TB RAIDs (4 x 500MB drives) in each of 2 separate cabinets. Windows install attempt brought up the HighPoint BIOS, then failed to install Windows and I got the well-known "Select CD-ROM boot type" message. Now, one of the 2 RAID arrays appears to be broken. Disk Utility still sees all 4 drives, but only recognizes 3 of them as a RAID slice with a GUID Partition Table. The other shows up as "disk5s1" with a Master Boot Record as the partition map scheme. While much of what was on this array was redundant with the second, I have a lot of work that was only on this one, so any help in how to fix and/or reconnect the drives of this array would be incredibly appreciated!

    1. I remembered RocketRaid 2320 don't provide EFI64bit from Highpoint website so you can't set boot camp.
    2. Does your Highpoint raid management utility(Highpoint engineer also called WebGui)
provide any message for your broken raid?I am also a Highpoint user, I give you some suggestion:
A.(1)If your WegGui in Manage--Array show your broken raid status is "Critical"and your bad HDD, please replace bad HDD then select Maintenance items of upper right corner of the page
(2)This will open the Array Information dialog box, select Add disk button to choose the replaced HDD then press "Submit", you can rebuild your RAID array.
B.(1)If your WegGui in Manage--Array show your broken raid status "Disable", you just can use one of Webgui function--"Keep old Data"(But it still have high risks to lose your data, it is the final method to use, I suggest you try the A method best.)
    (2) Select "Maintenance" items of upper right corner of the page, from the "Array Information" dialog box, select "Delete" button, and prompted a warning: the array of data will be deleted whether to continue, choose OK..
(3)Back to Manage--Array page, this time the array has been deleted, double-click the "Create Array"
button to display the page to create the disk. From the Initialization Method field select “Keep old Data”, the remaining arrays in strict accordance with the original set of parameters, the required attention parameters include: Number of RAID member disk, Array Type, Block Size, Sector Size.
(4)Click "Create", the initialization process will start automatically, RAID
recovery complete, prompts to create a successful, choose OK.
(5)See your volume in Mac Disk Utility if your data is recoveryed

Hi, i had the same problem yesterday and after searching I found no solution to this error.
Today i just burned the original Mountain Lion.dmg to a portable hard driver then reinstall the OS. And it seemed that the os had been restored and the error had been fixed.
And, i guess there's some app that changes some documents of the system. So when you rewrite the os, u get the bug fixed.

  • Partitioning a new laptop's RAID drive for scratch disc

I've now set my heart on getting a laptop. I'm doing to much on my old desktop, and getting a laptop is hopefully going to ease the burden & open up some possibilities. Certainly the specs will way better.
I'm seriously thinking about getting a Sony VAIO AR71ZU.
    http://vaio.sony.co.uk/view/ShowProduct.action?product=VGN-AR71ZU&site=voe_en_GB_cons&cate gory=VN+AR+Series&assetid=1218032875460
It has a lot f features I like & has 4GB of RAM. Unfortunately it's Vista (Ultimate), but that's what things are coming with now, so that's that.
It has 640GB of HDD space:
Hard Drive Type Serial ATA RAID 0 (0 and 1 supported) 2x320GB
    Hard Drive Capacity (GB) 640
    Hard Drive Speed (rpm) 5400
The two 320 GB drives look are joined -"con.... something" ! sorry I've forgotten the name for this- the opposite of partitioning. Hence it the drives are seen as one drive. Well for Photoshop one wants a second drive for scratch disc purposes doesn't one. Can I partition this 640GB (320+320GB) drive ? Anyone out there know ? Is it an ok thing to do ?
[One of the added features is "HDD recovery (hidden partition)". I assume this is the backup /recovery facility that comes with Vista Ultimate ? Anyway, it may be of note, as it mentions "hidden partition. Would this interfere with any partitioning ? ]
If I can partition then would it be wise to go for three partitions: one as the main program drive; one for most documents & files; and one for back-up/ other stuff including for use as first scratch disc ?
    Anyone wise?
    Any advice greatly appreciated.
[I'm also been looking at the possibility of an Alienware laptop, but really I'd rather put that money elsewhere. (Eventually a new desktop but not yet.)]

    Thanks, most informative.
I'm considering an Alienware laptop.(Though, expensive!) One can have the double RAID drive, and there is something called SMART BAY which bascially is 3rd drive. Maybe this is a way around things- perhaps get that & make that for the scratch disc...an expensive way around things!

  • Ext2 or ext3 for large RAID array

I'm just in the process of creating a 10TB array of 5 x 2TB drives.
I've been burned too many times by EXT4 so it's out for the forseable future.
My concern is the crazy amount of time required to stabalize the file system when periodic checks are mandated.  I'm using ext3 right now on a 7.5TB file system and have tuned the auto checking down to 2 years and 100 mounts.  It's not the best situation but when the system goes down due to over heating (filter plugs every few months), I turn it on, and it goes into a 2 day recovery procedure during the boot process, it's outside the envelope of acceptibility.

I've been burned by the 0 byte file bug.  The files were all there but some of them went to 0 bytes.
I did that on a backup array about 6~8 months ago.  Thinking, "It's just a backup array", I tried EXT4 for the first time.  It formatted up nicely, 36 hours of rsync, and I was good to go.  I didn't realize I had the 0 byte file issue until my main array had some issues.  When I went to the backup array, there were tons of 0 byte files, including fstab, and mdadm.conf.  That made it more difficult to rebuild the main array.  I did manage to rebuild the main array.  Once done, I formatted the backup array EXT3 and I've been hessitante to experiment with filesystems.
The 0 byte file bug is well documented, and perhaps long solved, but I'm not ready to get back on that bandwagon.
For what it's worth, I was burned by EXT3 several times early in it's existance.  That was a different issue.  The whole filesystem would become corrupt after a while.  It was disasterous but I didn't count on my PC then the way I do now.  That was back in the days I could back up to CD-ROM.  I kept at it and eventually EXT3 stabalized.  These days, I trust EXT3 with my life.
I encountered very similar issues, which resulted in me switching this workstation to FreeBSD and using ZFS for my raid arrays.
The beauty of that file system far outweighs anything available on Linux at this current time.

  • What Is the Best Raid Array Setup for Photoshop?

I'm considering going to a Raid Array both at the Scractch Disk Level 2X Solid State 90GB Drives, and also at the stroage level 3X Hitachi 2TB HDD.
Which Raid Array setups should I use for each?

    Something to consider:
An advantage of RAID 0 is that you get all the space of both drives, while multiplying the throughput.
While RAID 0 also multiplies the possibility of failure, you can offset that by buying high-MTBF enterprise class drives.  The Western Digital RE4 is an example (and is the model I use in my RAID).  Such drives are not really that much more expensive than their consumer-grade counterparts, and the difference is well worth it, IMO.
Do good backups - e.g., to a large external USB drive (e.g., Western Digital MyBook), and you'll be covered against loss of the entire array.

  • Failed to generate Alert for JMS Sender adapter

    Hi Folks,
My scenario is JMS to IDOC..
I have configured the Alert rules and the alerts are working fine for the Integration engine errors.. and apart from the alert rule there is one more alert rule configured for capturing the alerts of the adapter engine..
When i provide the queue name as invalid one .. i am able to receive the alerts for the same via alert rule of adapter engine..
When I force to make the channel to error with the invalid headers of RFH2 (with correct queuename) the channel status is showing error ..but interestingly no alert for the same...
Now My question here is how to test the generation of  the alerts by forcing the JMS sender channel to error. ?
I already checked the report SXMSALERT_LOGREADER for verification but no luck..
Can some one throw light on this?

Thanks for your reply...I am fetching the RFH headers using UDF via Dynamic config only..
Apart from the configurations errors mentioned for alerts(as i am success in this case)...I am testing if there any data related errors like wrong RFH Headers for JMS sender adapter though the channels showing error status in this case ...but its not throwing the alerts...
I want to know whether the alert will be triggered for this or not...if not why ..as it should..
if yes i am unable to get.. what troubleshooting can be done for this...
if you have any other cases (aprt from config issues)for alert trigger...and also apart from RFH headers case..can u pls share..so that i will try the same..
MY only question here is why the adapter not trigering the alerts when wrong RFH Headers are sent along the message..but showing the channel status as red..(is it a bug ?)
