Alert Framework question

Hi,
we have set a generic user with a group email adress in alert categorie definitions as the destination where the alert should be sent.
What this does is that the alerts are sent to a common mailbox which the group responsible for pi can monitor.
The problem now is that no one can really log in and terminate these alerts since no particular user has this users password . This is normal because noone should really know generic user passwords and we want to be able to trace who confirms alerts.
How does the alert framework handle this way of working... it seems like something everyone must need...
I mean , you don't really want to send alert emails directly to someone in case they are not there. Then again, if you send it to multiple people , how do you know who will handle it...
How do you do this ?

Hi,
You will create one distributed email list (add users mail ids how many you want in that distributed list)  and assign that distributed list to the particular user. when an alert triggered then the mail goes to the distributed list (all people receive that alert who are in the distributed list).
So based on their shift timings they will handle that alert causes and send a mail.
Otherwise one person is responsible to assign the alert issues to the users.

  • Question about Alert Framework in Solution Manager

    Hi all,
We are planning to use Solution Manager as Central Monitoring Server, so I want to know what the advantage to use Solution Manager is, especially in Alerting.
We can define auto-reaction methods for monitors to send CCMS alerts to Alert Framework where the alerts can be forwarded to the personal responsible via Email or CCMS.
Is there any difference when using Solution Manager? Which additional functions dose Solution Manager provide in alerting?
In normal SAP Alert Framework, you can only define one receipt for escalation. Can Solution Manager support multiple level escalation? For example, an alert is sent to A, if the Alert is not confirmed by A, then the alert is forwarded to B automatically. The same way the alert can be forwarded to further persons.
    Any idea?
    Thanks!
    Regards,
    Hui

    Hi Hui,
On my opinion there is no any advantage in useíng SAP Solution Manager as central alerting systems in respect to RZ20. The arguments are as follows:
    - in SAP Solution Mnager you have performance restrictions on number of alerts to be displayed in one screen caused by the fact that the alerts are displayed in HTTP format
    - All the customizing in SAP Solution Manager for System Monitoring is Solution specific and not transportable. It means that if you have got corrupted your system monitoring session (that happens not seldom) your settings are lost. If you have created another Solution for the same systems you have to perform customizing from the scratch
    - Customizing is also not very esay to do. I would do recommend to use "User defined Alerts" Please have a look at the SAP Note 1023959 fro this topc
    - SAP Solution Manager does not provide alerting mechanism -> you have to relay to ALM in any case. Here by the way to your second question I would say that it is possible implement exactly process you have described. In the ALM category you can use button escallation to define another person that would be informed via e-mail in case the first Recipient have not completed alert from this category within predefined time
+ The only feature that is unique with System Monitoring with SAP Solution Mnager is the possibility to change threshold values for all the MTEs / MTE Classes that are defined in User Define Alerts an one button click
At the conclussion I would say that there are some custommers that are using SM as monitoring platform But more pragmatical would be to configure RZ20 with help of Rule-based alerts and self- defined system groups and use ALM as alerting infrastructure. In this case you can save in plain XML file your Alert configuration and export it in any other system. ALM has on my opinion enogh functionality for alerting

  • Should alert framework configuration be transported?

We have configured alert framework in our development box and are questioning whether or not <u>transporting</u> the configuration is <u>standard practice</u>.
We are concerned about transporting alert configuration as we are not aware of a way to distinguish if the alert message is from our development box or production box.
    <b>Questions in summary:</b>
1). Is transporting alert configuration standard practice?  Advantages?  Disadvantages?
2). Is there a way to configure in alert message what system the alert was generated from (XI development or XI production)?
    Thanks in advance,
    Michael

    Hi,
After creating the Alert configuration , and alert caetgory in Development System , you have to transport it to production system.
because all alert configuration details in SAP Alert management in development system, not in production system.
How to transport Alerts see below link

  • Using Alert Framework to send email notifications when Process Chain fails

    Hi Everyone,
I've configured ALRTCATDEF in Solution Manager, selected the alerting option for Process Chains in - RSPC > Attributes > Alerting, but it looks like whenever any process chain fails, an email notification will be sent to the same recipients.
Is there anyway to have an ALRCATDEF - alert category for different process chains, so that different recipients receive notifications for different Process Chains.
    Thanks,
    Ken

Interesting....I was actually hoping for different recipients for different process chains.
    E.g. for our
CRM process chain - Support Team 1
FI process chain - Support Team 2
and so on and so on.
I think the only way may be creating a custom process type and implementing a class for this process type that calls function SALRT_CREATE_API. Then adding this process type to the process chain, with a different variant for each.
However if anyone knows a way to do this in a SAP standard way using the Alert Framework, that would be great.
    Cheers,
    Ken

  • How to send HTML email using alert framework? Kindly help!

    Hi Experts,
I am using alert framework (alert category) to send email. In the email message I want to use HTML content along with some hyperlinks.
         How can I do this?
         kindly help!

    Hi,
To send hyper links, you can add the links in the FollowUp Activity.
The content of the mail from the alert framework will be a text mail.
One option would be to check in your SCOT settings if it would be possible to set the Content Type as TEXT/HTML . If yes, then maybe this should be possible.

  • XI / PI Alert Framework to Populate an ABAP table

We are sending an outbound proxy to PI, and if an error occurs in PI, we want to populate an abap table in the source system.  SAP has told us this could only be done via the PI alert framework.  Could someone tell me if there is one or many user exits (and what they are) in the PI alert framework that abap code could be inserted in?

  • Alert Framework Configuration

    Hello,
Can anyone tell me if it is necessary to use BPM in order to trigger alerts with the alert framework?
    Thanks
    dizizmi

    Hi again,
I am having a problem with the alert configuration.
When I try to access the Alert Configuration link in the Runtime Workbench I get a message stating that SSO is not active in the system. I then press the button to logon and enter the user XIRWBUSER and password but the system is not able to give me the access.
I have already done a search in SDN an one colleague add the same problem and the way he solved it was configuring the SSO. I think that there should be another way. I already checked on notes 750287 and 813703 but still have the problem. Any ideias?
    Thanks in advance

  • PI 7.31 - Component based alerting v/s Alert framework like 7.0

    PI Experts,
We are in the process of upgrading PI from 7.0 to 7.31. In current PI-7.0, We are using Alert framework for notifying us for the failed messages in PI.
PI-7.3 has the the new feature of Component based alerting, while implementation, we have a choice between "Component Based Alerting" and "Alert FrameWork".
    1.     Can someone guiide me on what are the advantages of using  "Component Based Alerting" v/s "Alert Framework" in PI-7.3?
    2.     If we choose "Component Based Alerting" now, then can we switch it back to "Alert Framework"? If yes, how difficult it is? What are the configuration steps for the "Component Based Alerting"?
    3.     If we choose "Alert Framework" now, then can we switch it back to  "Component Based Alerting"? If yes, how difficult it is? We would be able to use our current alert configuration and alert rules?
    Thanks.
    MP

    Hi,
    >>>>1.     In current AF, we get the alert for the new error if we have confirmed the alert for the same rule in the system otherwise we do not get a alert for the new error. How the alert confirmation works in CBA
depends how you consume alerts - if you do it with SOLMAN for example it's there (for "number of hours" and/or "until" AFAIK)
    >>>>2.     Is there any way we can move the current alert rules of AF to CBA in 7.3?
not sure if with 7.3 but there is some upgrade function in 7.31 as per:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw73ehp1/helpdata/en/b2/58b14b70744d0db55599230d2c5bce/frameset.htm

"In case you upgrade your system to enhancement package 1 for SAP NetWeaver 7.3, and in case the “classical”alerting function (already available prior to enhancement package 1 for SAP NetWeaver 7.3) is switched on, the CTC wizard asks you if you like to switch on the new component-based message alerting."
but I've never tried it so don't know if/how it works,

  • Adapter Engine - Alert Framework - Suppress Multiple Alerts

    Hello,
    I use XI in SP14.
I have configured the alert framework with rules for "Integration Engine" and for "Adapter Engine". I have check for the two cases the option "Suppress Multiple Alerts of This Rule".
For the same error (for example, mapping error) the option "Suppress Multiple Alerts of This Rule" works fine for the rules based on the "Integration Engine", but for the rule based on the "Adapter Engine" the option "Suppress Multiple Alerts of This Rule" doesn't work. For example i have a sender file adapter which reads some files on a nework directory (polling every 5 secondes) and if we have a network failure, i will receive several times the same email from the Alert Framework. Is it normal or a bug ?

    Vincent

  • Alert framework and RWB

    Hello everybody,
which mechanisms do we have to notify agents of errors in RWB?
    Is this the alert framework?
    Regards Mario

Yes you have to create the RULES in the runtime workbench <i><b>Alert Configuration</b> </i>, than you can see the alerts in the <i><b>Alert Inbox</b></i> or configure from transaction <i><b>alrtcatdef</b></i>.
Please look for this in the <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/5b/5d1741b393f26fe10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm">Offical SAP Help</a>

  • Email notification Alert Framework

We succesfully configured the alert framework, alerts were generated and send to a mailbox.
But since this week we don't receive the alerts anymore in our mailbox.
We see in tcode LSG1 that alerts are generated, but with error "BCS exception (OSERR_BCS) occured"
We had a look at tcode SM21, ST22, SCON, SCOT, SICF, SOST but everything looks ok.
Also we still get other emails from the system in our mailbox.
    Can anyone give advise?
    thanks,
    Pieter

    Hi Monica,
We use alert framework to send messages from interfaces in error (integration engine and adapter engine) to a general mailbox in Outlook.
    In SAP XI:
In transaction ALRTCATDEF we defined 2 categories, AE (errors on adapter engine) and IE (errors on integration engine).
    AE:
message title: AE (&SYST-SYSID&): Adapter Engine Error
short text: Error in adapter &SXMS_TO_ADAPTER_TYPE&
long text: Adapter type - &SXMS_TO_ADAPTER_TYPE&
                  Adapter error text - &SXMS_TO_ADAPTER_ERRTXT&
                  &SXMS_MSG_GUID&
    IE:
message title: IE (&SYST-SYSID&): Integration Engine Error
short text: Error in message &SXMS_MSG_GUID&
long text: Message ID - &SXMS_MSG_GUID&
                  Sender service - &SXMS_FROM_SERVICE&
                   Interface namespace - &SXMS_FROM_NAMESPACE&
                  Sender interface - &SXMS_FROM_INTERFACE&
                  Error category - &SXMS_ERROR_CAT&
                  Error code - &SXMS_ERROR_CODE&
For both categories configure the Fixed Recipients (user-mailbox).
In ALRTCATDEF go to Settings-Configuration, We don't use alert confirmations but the user must exist bij Inbound Processing (that's why it didn't worked anymore by us).
Execute program (SE38) RSALERTDISP to see the alerts.
    see also: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/EN/96/f1033c128f4a7de10000000a114084/frameset.htm
    In XI Workbench:
    Choose Alert Configuration
we added 2 rules, one for AE and one for IE
    example AE rule:
           Rule Activated: YES
           Suppress: NO
           Description: Errors on Adapter Engine
           Were: Adapter Engine
           Adapter Type: *
    good luck,
    Pieter

  • Alert framework configuration -  Bw reporting Agent

    Hi,
Anybody tell the transaction code or procedure to do Alert framework configuration in Bw reporting Agent.
    Thanks,
    Debasish

    Hi Debasisha,
The steps for to do Alert Framework configuration
    Step1. Give Tcode: ALRTCATDEF
this open " Alert Management Screen", From the alert category definition environment, choose "Settings", and then "Configuration".
Step2. Ensure you are in change mode, by default it in Display mode.
define you alert category, If you want to be able to confirm alerts by SMS or Internet mail, you must enter the user created to receive all incoming mails in the "Inbound Processing" section.
Step3.In the "Status Handling for Mails" section, you can specify which statuses are to be reported. The first setting refers to the system being informed, and the second refers to a status mail being sent to the sender.
Step4. In the Logging section, select "Write Log" only if you want additional information about the actual processing of the alerts. This information is logged using the standard application log and can be viewed in transaction SLG1 (object ALERT).
That's it, Hope it help you.

  • Alert Framework using for XI

    Hello all,
I want to get an alert every time, a message in XI (either in the ABAP Part and in the Adapter Framework) will get an error status. I have looked a lot of different documentation but I do not get through.
Can somebody explain briefly, step by step, at with places I have to do what.
    Best regards,

    Hi Helmut,
at first take a look at this page:

    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/49/cbfb40f17af66fe10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm
    and then:
    a) creating alert categories

then go to Runtime Workbench - Alert Configuration
    and good luck
if you can see anything in the Alert configuration link in RWB you can also check question 16 (intergation engine section) on my XI FAQ page:

  • ALI Scripting Framework question: PTPortalPage() - I can't find any example

I can't successfully create an array or portlet objects using the getPortlets() method of the PTPortalPage object in a portlet using the ALI scripting framework.
The .zip file containing scripting framework samples (https://codesamples.projects.dev2dev.bea.com/servlets/ScarabDownload/resultpos/-1/nbrresults/0/remcurreport/true/template/ViewAttachment.vm/attachid/5124/filename/ALI_Scripting_Framework_Samples.zip) doesn't have any examples.
    var arrPortlets = new Array(PTPortalPage.getPortlets());
    alert(arrPortlets.length);
This code says I only have one portlet on the page, but I have 3. Also, I'm unable to loop through the one in returned and turn it into PTPortlet object so that I can get the name and id of the portlet.
Does anyone have a code sample on how to loop through the portlets on a page using the ali scripting framework's PTPortalPage.getPortlets()?

Got it. I wouldn't particularly call the return value of the getPortlets() method an array of PTPortal objects - but rather it's just an array of ids.
    var arrIDs = PTPortalPage.getPortlets();
    for (var i in arrIDs)
    var portlet = new PTPortlet.getPortletByID(i);
    alert("pid: " + portlet.id + ", name: " + portlet.name);
    }
