Alert log/trace file
alert log file is generated daily or it will be updated daily?
is trace file part of alert log file or its a seperate file?
how trace file differ's from alert log file.?
thankx....

When oralce starts every first time, oracle does create a alert log file and whenever oracle wants to update the alertlog file, it updates the existing one and in case of missing alert log, it re-create the alert log and updates it.

No.

alert log contains database activities list carried out in the related database.
trace file can be generated due to number of reasons, like, hardware problems, due to oracle internal errors, user errors, whenever you trace a session and etc.

-SteveC"We did open a case with Oracle, but as no Oracle information to go off of, they requested we open a case with Microsoft, and here I am."
Actually, this is NOT opening a case with Microsoft. This is making a post in a technical forum. If you consider this critical, you should open an official case with Microsoft by calling their support line. They will walk you through steps
to try to pull more information from the system, because what you have posted does not give enough information other than an error occurred in Oracle.exe. If it turns out to be an issue with Oracle, you will pay for the support call. If it turns
out to be a bug with Microsoft, I don't believe they charge you. But if it is not a bug, then they would charge you.

Database generating a large number of ORA-1403 errors in Alert Log & trace
Hi,
Many ORA-1403: no data found messages appear in the alert log, but users are not seeing this error on their screens. The errors are only generated in the alert log along with an associated trace file.
We have not set the "set events 1403 trace" for either system or session level.
I confirmed this with the initialization file.
The database is generating huge trace files..
Database version: 10.1.0.4.2
Errors in Trace:
ksedmp: internal or fatal error
ORA-01403: no data found
Regards,
ChandanHi,
Check Note:271490.1. Try to issue
alter system set events '1403 trace name errorstack off'; as recommended in that Note.
If this not help then check other possible cases of this on Metalink or address this problem to Oracle support directly.

Questions regarding Alert log & Control file
Hello,
This is my first post to this forum. I'm new at administrating a database 11.2.0.3. I have couple of questions regarding Oracle DB.
1)Which one is preferred method among the two?
Checking alert log fie manually or automating a shell script for checking alert log file.
2) Does setting CONTROL_FILE_RECORD_KEEP_TIME parameter to zero make the database unrecoverable, if RMAN recovery catalog is not used?
Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Regards1)Which one is preferred method among the two?
Checking alert log fie manually or automating a shell script for checking alert log file.
That depends on your comfortability - But checking alert log is good.
2) Does setting CONTROL_FILE_RECORD_KEEP_TIME parameter to zero make the database unrecoverable, if RMAN recovery catalog is not used?
Yes - you cannot recover your database if it set zero and doesn't have recovery catalog. -

ORA.00600 Error in alert log file
Hi all,
I'm using Enterprise Linux Red hat 5 OS and Oracle version 10.2.0.1.0
I checked alert log file, yesterday i got this error,
* Errors in file /opt/oracle/admin/ssharp/udump/ssharp_ora_11162.trc:
ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [kksfbc-reparse-infinite-loop], [0xB7F8F6B4], [], [], [], [], [], []
Fri Mar 11 19:44:51 2011
Memory Notification: Library Cache Object loaded into SGA
Heap size 3784K exceeds notification threshold (2048K) *
how to solve this issue?
thanks in advanceHello,
ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [kksfbc-reparse-infinite-loop], [0xB7F8F6B4], [], [], [], [], [], []For this kind of error you should open a Service Request to My Oracle Support and, send them all the information you can (Alert log, trace files, ...).
More over, as you are in *10.2.0.1*, you may apply the latest patchset to the Database (10.2.0.4 / 10.2.0.5). Sometime, ORA-00600 may be due to a Bug. So, perhaps, by chance, applying a Patch set can help to solve this kind of issue.
Anyway, first of all, contact the Support.
Hope this help.

Solution Manager trace file ? Details of all systems messages ?
Hi,
I had developed custom applications involving different systems like IDES, R/3, File system and web services and BPM scenarios.
These systems are integrated with XI, and now I want to monitor the message exchanges between these systems.
I need all information (in form of txt or log trace file) containing
which systems are involved. Parameters used during communications data exchanged between them or message header, content of the messages etc.
As far as I know log files contain lot of information about user activities like transactions executed, messages exchanged between systems etc......I already tried to monitor the log files at XI level, but it contain very less information about the executions.
Solution manager and remote systems configurations are already done.
I have the following questions.....
1) Will Solution manager be the right choice to monitor such information ? If yes, then where and how ?
2) Is there any combined log file in solution manager which contain all log information about the connected systems ?
3) Where I can find the log files of solution manager ? (Is there a single file which contains all information?)
4) How communication (message exchanges) between composite applications is monitored in SAP ?
How to switch on tracing for Log file (which trace level and what settings), offcourse it will generate lot of data
Regards,
hussaanHi,
Please download that attachment "scripts_1139623.sar" provided in SAP Note 1139623 - Using transaction RZ20 to monitor remote Oracle databases.
Upon extraction of scripts_1139623.sar the following files you will get.
rz20_nonabap.sql
dbcheckora10_oltp.sql
dbcheckora.sql
Then Perform the below mentioned Steps to resolve your issue.
Step 1: Create tables DBCHECKORA and DBMSGORA:
sqlplus SAPSR3DB/<pwd>
SQL> @rz20_nonabap.sql
Step 2: Fill the table DBCHECKORA:
sqlplus SAPSR3DB/<pwd>
SQL> @dbcheckora10_oltp
Step 3: Create the synonyms (as user ora<sid>):
brconnect -u / -c -f crsyn -o SAPSR3DB
sqlplus "/as sysdba"
CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM SAP_DBSTATC FOR SAPSR3DB.DBSTATC;
CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM SAP_DBCHECKORA FOR SAPSR3DB.DBCHECKORA;
CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM SAP_DBMSGORA FOR SAPSR3DB.DBMSGORA;
Step 4: Grant Privileges for OPS$<SID>ADM User for the above created Tables
sqlplus "/as sysdba"
grant all on SAPSR3DB.DBSTATC to OPS$<SID>ADM;
grant all on SAPSR3DB.DBCHECKORA to OPS$<SID>ADM;
grant all on SAPSR3DB.DBMSGORA to OPS$<SID>ADM;
grant all on SAPSR3DB.DBSTAIHORA to OPS$<SID>ADM;
grant all on SAPSR3DB.DBSTATHORA to OPS$<SID>ADM;
grant all on SAPSR3DB.DBSTATIORA to OPS$<SID>ADM;
grant all on SAPSR3DB.DBSTATTORA to OPS$<SID>ADM;
commit;
Step 5:
Now after successful execution of above mentioned Steps , in DBACOCKPIT (system configuration), try to save the Remote DB entry with "Collect Alert Data". It will be saved without any error.
If you find any errors, post the error contents as a reply of this thread message.

What is Wrong wiht my Oracle?This problem occurs because an archive process has been started but it has nothing to do because the database is in NOARCHIVELOG mode. This could be rather serious if it is expected that the database runs in ARCHIVELOG mode.
This happens when only log_archive_start = true. Which means an archive process is started on database startup, but because the database is not actually in archivelog mode, the archiver reports the above message.
To verify use v$database view. The LOG_MODE is NOARCHIVELOG even though log_archive_start = true.
Put the database in archivelog mode:
1.1. Mount the database.
1.2. Issue the command: ALTER DATABASE ARCHIVELOG;

Removing alert logs and trace files
Hi everyone!
I noticed that in all the oracle databases, the trace files are piling and alert log is growing like anything ....
Thought of making a copy of the trace files somewhere and remove them from the hard disk excluding the most recent ones.
For alert log, thought of making a copy and renaming the current file so that Oracle can create a new one.
Any advice if there are better approaches in handling this?
Thanks in advance.user645399 wrote:

Thanks in advance.I would include the alert log file in my backup strategy as it includes many important information; database parameter values,when and how the database was shut down, the important database errors and when they occur , etc ... I usually backup the alert log file once a month and keep 1 year of alert log file copies.. -

How to read trace files alerted in the alert.log file
Hello,
My alert.log file indicated multiple trace files to review. How to read these trace files to understand the cause of errors. Do I open the trace files with vi and do a search for 'ORA-' error. Are there tools to read and understand trace files. Thank you.It depends what kind of trace file it is.
You can use vi or other text editing tool to open the trace file. The trace file usually provides more detailed information when you have ORA- errors in alert.log. It's also very helpful for Oracle support when troubleshooting. -
Alert log and Trace file error
Just found this in one of our alertlog file

and this in trace file:
RECO.TRC file
ERROR, tran=7.93.23662, session# =1, ose=60:
ORA-12535: TNS: operation timed outWhy would you increase the log files when the problem is a distributed transaction timed out?
Distributed transactions time out when the data they need to access is locked. Unlike a local session that wants to update a row, which will wait forever, a distributed transaction times out. In earlier versions of Oracle you could set init.ora parameter distributed_lock_timeout to manage the timeout period. Oracle has since made this into an underbar parameter.
The solution is to ignore the problem unless it appears regularly in which case you have an application design issue.
