Alert: 'Network is changed by another application'

Opening 'systemconfiguration' I get the alert
'Network is changed by another application'
and I only can stop this by quitting 'systemconfiguration' instantly.
How can I fix this?

  • Network settings changed by another application.

I select the Network option under system preferences.
I get a dialog box that says, "Your network settings have been changed by another application."
    What does that mean?
This happens on my eMac and not my iMac.

A Fix for "Your network preferences have been changed by another application" Error
In the Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ folder delete the following:
    com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
    NetworkInterfaces.plist
    preferences.plist
    com.apple.nat.plist
You will have to re-configure all your network settings since deleting these files will cause them to be returned to defaults.

  • "Network settings have be changed by another application" stuck in loops

I have the exact problem as others with Network System Preferences saying that the settings have been changed by another application. The message goes into a loop that can only be stopped with a Force Quit of the Preferences. I also have the Airport not connecting at start-up without choosing the Network Name from the Airport Pull down menu. I also think it may have started with the last Security upgrade and Java upgrade. I have used the airport utility to reconfig the base station. I discovered a system keychain with a password for the airport that my normal passwords would not open to show what it's password was. I have done many disk permissions and verifications. Any ideas? I would think if this is a Security update error, that Apple would be aware of it by now and post a repair. I have followed some threads on this issue but would rather wait for an Apple fix. There appears to be no way to contact Apple in customer support.

  • Network Setting being changed by another application?

    Hi,
Out of nowhere, I started to get this problem whenever I try to modify the settings on my Network Preferences. A prompt would pop up with the text "Your network settings have been changed by another application." and all I can do is click OK. After the OK is clicked, the same prompt would immediately reappear. This is on a 1.67Ghz Powerbook running OSX 10.4.11.
I'll try to link a picture to a screen grab.

  • Autosave/Versions Issue - 'This file has been changed by another application'

In Keynote and Numbers, I often informed that 'The document xxx could not be saved. The file has been changed by another application.' Clicking 'Revert' simply results in 'xxx could not be reverted.' (The particular box below is actually from TextEdit)
This snapshot is from the informative link: http://krypted.com/mac-os-x/lions-versions-feature/
In the above-mentioned site, the author attributes this to 'changing hosts' and working on documents from different hosts. Indeed, I started the document at home and edited it at another location (where I connected to a different Wi-Fi network). Reading system.log from console, I see my host is actually my wireless network, rather than xxx's-MacBook Pro, as usual. Some examples of the errors (from system.log) are...
    Aug 16 16:34:14 wireless-s1-no-xxx-xx-xxx sandboxd[1380] ([29]): revisiond(29) deny file-write-unlink /Users/xxx/Desktop/Presentation.key/1301543_55260978-1.tiff

              Error Domain=GSLibraryErrorDomain Code=1 "The operation couldn’t be completed. (GSLibraryErrorDomain error 1.)" UserInfo=xxxxxxxx {}
I assume that the link is correct in that setting a new hostname is causing the problem. Unfortunately, I still have no idea how to fix it and I'm uneasy about the reliability of versions/autosave and/or my Time Machine backups.
Any advice, comments, or suggestions that you might have would be appreciated!

    Hi Tony,
That's been reported here before, and it's happened to me. Maybe not exactly those words, but something similar, at least. I've always ignored the warning and have had no ill effects to date, that I am aware of. Nor have I ever figured out what the message may have been caused by.

  • Cannot save ... The file has been changed by another application.

    Hi,
This is to report a wierd behavior when pages is auto saving documents.
An error pops up  "Cannot save ... The file has been changed by another application."
Clicking "save anyways" seems to save the document OK, but still this is very anoying.
Saving the document manually (from the menu) isn't showing any error message.
Can someone help with a hint as of when this will be fixed or is there a workaround?
    Thank you in advance,
    Best Regards,
    Michel.
    Pages version 5.0.1 (1478) on OS X 10.9

The phrase "by another application" makes it pretty clear that it is not Pages (or, in your case, Keynote).
What seems to be happening is that between the time that Pages opens a document, or saves it and the next time that it attempts to save it, something updates the document's file on the hard drive. Pages, recognizing that the file contains changes for which it is not responsible, presents this alert so you can decide whether you want to overwrite those changes. The usual suspects are backup and synchronization applications, like iCloud, which may not recognize the "Open" flag on the file, but I think it can also be triggered by AppleScripts, Automator workflows and Services, if they perform a "Save" action on the file.

  • The page won,t open I get the settings were changed by another application message. It keeps appearing to I can't work with the diagnosics

The page won't open when I click on the firefox icon I go to system preferences for dianostics and "the settings have been changed by another application" I can't close that message to keep on working.

Are you referring to a wireless router, such as an Airport Express? If so, and you bought a different router, you will need to set up the new router according to their instructions. With my Netgear, I had to go to their online website (they should have the URL listed in the instructions) and set it up there because the software that comes with routers is not compatible with Macs.
If you're talking about something else, then please let me know - I've just never heard of an Airport modem.

  • I keep getting a warnin that my pages document could not be auto saved. The file has been changed by another application. Click save anyway to keep your changes and save the changes made by the other application as a version, or click revert to keep the c

I keep getting a warning stating that the document could not be auto saved in pages. The file has been changed by another application. Then it says click save any way to keep your changes and save the changes made by the other application as a version, or click revert to keep the changes from the other application and save your changes to a version.
What in the heck does all that mean, and why are they trying to behave like a Windows product or a Microsoft office product. I just don't get it.
Why is another application changing my documents? It's like they've created a virus within their own programs. It's a pain in the neck and makes no sense.

I am also having the issue of a warning saying "could not be auto-saved in Pages. The file has been changed in another application. I then hit "save anyway", the warning will go away for a time, sometimes minutes, sometimes hourr, but then the warming reapprears saying the same thing. This is not the case with all Pages documents but it is the case with many.

  • I keep getting this error "This document was changed in another application" but I am not opening this doc in another application

    Pages 5.2
    OSX 10.9.2
I have been getting this error (on keynote as well)
"This document was changed in another application. To work on that version, click Revert. Changes you made here will be saved as a version on your Mac.  Tip: If you’re using an online storage service, avoid opening the same document on multiple computers at once"
I am only working on this doc on my MacBook Pro (Ipad is OFF),
not running pages on my phone
not logged into iCloud in safari
document saved to my hard drive (not iCloud or dropbox)

Getting the same message. Started with the latest update a few days ago. So I guess it's a glitch in the current version and hope Apple will solve that soon by issuing another update which fixes that. It's really annoying and makes it quite impossible to use the application at all.
Meanwhile open Pages, go to Pages, Provide Pages Feedback, choose Feedback Type: Bug Report and explain the problem in the Comments box.
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/pages.html
I think that's all you can do for now. But it's important for people to report the problem since I don't know how closely Apple is monitoring these Forums.

  • How do I change to another application while showing a keynote without exiting?

I want to change to another application (VLC) while showing my Keynote and do not want to stop the show just chaneg back and forth.  How can I do that?

    Michael,
Have Vlc or whichever app you will leave keYnote for sitting behind the slide display before you start your show. This could include a browser with multiple tabs so you can slickly move around the web even if you don't have an Internet connection at your site. Just make sure you set it up before you leave for the presentation.
Now, when you're ready to leave keynote to play in vlc, hit the H key on the keyboard to hide keynote and bring vlc to the front. If you can see you dock keynote will appear with an arrow in it to indicate it is in hide mode. Just click on it to once more bring keynote back to the frontmost app, usually back into your presentation.
Some of the more fancy remote control devices can let you map the H button so you don't need to be at the keyboard for this to happen.

  • PS CC 2014 Exiting Text Edit mode when changing to another application

I just updated to PS CC 2014 on my iMac running Mac OS X Yosemite.
I noticed that if I enter Text Edit mode on a text layer and then change over (CMD+Tab or ALT+Tab) to the word processing app (TextEdit or Word) that Text Edit mode will commit.
In PS CS6 (my previous version), it used to be that Text Edit mode would stay on, so that I could change to the text document I want to copy/paste from and then back to PS. I mostly use keyboard shortcuts and rarely use my mouse/trackpad.
My question: Is there a way to get that functionality back? or is this a PS CC 2014 glitch?
    Thanks!

  • The metadata for this photo has been changed by another application.

getting this message on random photos....in different folders

If file not changed outside Lightroom, just save metadata (from catalog to disk) to extinguish. - prolly a bug..
If Lr still unhappy, then read metadata (from disk to catalog) afterward.
Of course, make sure everything is backed up before doing such stuff.

  • Network setting changed...no printers, no file sharing

I had a message "network settings changed by another application" and could not change settings. After reading the discussion forum, Jona's fix worked to resolve that. However, I still can not print anything and can not "connect to server" to share files from my laptop to my desktop (which had the original problem with settings changed). HELP! I have many projects left to print for Christmas and have no idea where to start to fix this problem. I know it has something to do with the origninal network settings issue.

Hi AubreyM, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Did you delete those files or just lock the Security?
Have you tried connecting by IP>
Finder>Go menu>Connect to Servers..., then enter afp://ip.of.other.mac, like...
    afp://10.0.1.3
    afp://192.168.1.2
On the Printer, did you try removing the existing one in Printer Setup Utility, then adding it again?
    Might try these two...

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1341?viewlocale=en_US
Might try Printer Setup Repair 5.1...
