Alert to a duplicate import of a CD

Hi there,
Is there anyway to set up an alert in the case of importing a CD that is already in itunes library
many thanks

For a CD where you did not get warned, had you changed the tag information on that album before importing for the 2nd time? If you make tag corrections such as Artost pr Album name (and I think Genre), then iTunes won't warn you if you try to import the CD again. What happens if you rip a CD, then immediately try to rip it again?
If you're not getting the warning on back-to-back CD rips, then perhaps you need to reset your iTunes preferences.

  • Duplicate imported photos on the iPad

Regarding duplicate imported photos on the iPad:   Is there an automated way to detect and delete duplicate photos, specifically imported from the camera connection kit.  Assume no iTunes syncing, mac or PC.  First party solution preferred, third party app welcome.
Consider the senario, Camera card contents are imported, the card is reinserted into the camera without deleting previous import, new photos are taken, "skip duplicates" is ignored on new import, all photos on the card are imported, resulting in duplicates.
Happy to add additional information, just ask.

The iPad's file system is hidden and not accessible unless perhaps you have jailbroken the iPad.
Not jailbroken. The OP asked about photos that were imported, not sync'ed.
Quote: "I've been using the iPad to collect photos from my digital cameras.
I have a few thousand of such photos on my iPad."
The import photo albums generated using the CCK are accessable just like the "Saved Photos" album.

  • Duplicate Import File Error

Help!! I am trying to import our purchase records into Zenworks Configuration Management. I tried an import yesterday and it did not work because it said I did not have any headers. So today I revamped the spreadsheet today and only put one item on the sheet. I then saved it as a tab delimited .txt file and tried to import it. It errors out saying:
"No new items were created. This looks like a duplicate import. Fatal Error - Duplicate Import File 0 "
But when I go to purchase records there are none. So where or what needs to be cleaned up so it doesn't think there is already a record?
Please respond! Thanks for the help!

  • Duplicates imported with box checked

When I imported photos to my iPhoto library, I checked the box not to import duplicates.  After the photos were all imported, I discovered that there were several duplicates the iPhoto imported although the box was checked to not import duplcates.
How can I avoid having duplicates imported?
I did notice that under the orignals in iPhoto only the photo number was shown but under the duplicates that were imported, the titles that had been placed before the import were shown.   Did this make the difference so that the duplicates were imported?
Thanks for your help and suggestions.
Oh yes, I did run Duplicate Annihilator after the import but it did not pick out those duplicates.
    Thanks.

  • Pls. help! iPhoto freezes (after duplicate/import/ext. edit)

    Hi everyone,
I'm so frustrated. Every time I either duplicate a photo, edit in external editor, or actually after every single import from the digital camera (I use a card reader, but the camera is EOS 20D for completeness) iPhoto stops responding, freezes, I get the spinning ball. I mean, I went to Macs because I was fed up wasting so much time just getting things to work, and now this? :''-(
I've tried repairing permissions, cron scripts, deleting the iPhoto prefs file and it still happens. BTW, for the technical ones around you, if I restart iPhoto after I have to force quit, the duplicated photo is there. Just like the import goes through. Just at the end it hangs itself. Also to my bewilderment, duplicating an already duplicated photo (by clicking on the duplicate) the iPhoto will not freeze exceptionally. Oh, and I also tried manual permissions (RW for me AND the group), plus I AM the admin and the only user account on this mac ever since it was new.
Please help. I already upgraded from 5.0.3 to 5.0.4 and no change (luckily it didn't get worse, heh). My library is 5 Gigs of mostly 8megapixel RAWs, TIFFs, and JPEGs.
    Thank you!

    Hi amanda,
for now, use Image Capture to import your images.
Using Image Capture to download images and video clips:
Open up Image Capture which is found in the Applications folder.
When it is opened, go to Image Capture/Preferences
    Under the General button choose
Camera: When a camera is connected, open Image Capture.
The next time you connect your camera Image Capture will open.
In the window that opens you will see an Options button. Click on that button to set your options.
To find out more about Image Capture (it can do a lot more) Click on Help in the menu bar when Image Capture is open.
iPhoto: How to Change the "Open Automatically" Preference
If you find you can't change any of Image Captures preferences or can't access any drop down menus or they are greyed out, check to make sure Image Capture is loose in the Applications folder and not within a sub folder.
You can also try to delete the iPhoto preference file called com.Apple.iPhoto.plist. Here is a screenshot of where it is.
    Preference file
Then you can download and use Onyx to clean out all caches.
    OnyX
-I want you to check the permissions on your iPhoto Library folder and make sure they are Read/write for you. In the same window go all the way to the bottom and check the box.
Get info on the iPhoto Library folder
    iPhoto Library Info
For good measure, you can open Disk Utility which is found in your Utilities folder and repair permissions.

  • No prompt to avoid duplicate imports in iphoto 5

Now that I've upgraded to Life '05 and tried to import pictures from my Canon Power Shot S2 IS, I no longer am prompted by iphoto to ignore importing duplicate pictures already in my library from previous imports. I'm not ready to delete these images off the camera and would like the option to import but avoid the duplicates.
iphoto 4 had this great prompt and box to check to avoid importing duplicate images. Any advice on this in iphoto 5? Am I missing something?

    Hi Jeffrey,
    I have the same camera!
Back on subject...sometimes trashing the iPhoto Preference file will give you back the dialog. sometimes it goes away again for the the same people. I don't know why that is.
    Preference file
Next, I suggest that you use Image Capture instead, to download only the images you want to download to your computer. I started using Image when I got the S2 because my video files were so large that iPhoto was choking on them. I also started using Image Capture because I can put all the images and Movies in dated folders and back them up regularly. I do import the images into iPhoto to use but only the best.

  • IPhone photos - duplicate imports

I am using Aperture 2.1.1 I import images as managed files and change the names to a custom master name (basically my initialsyear_month_daytime). I have the "do not import duplicates" box checked. This works for my other cameras, but Aperture keeps importing duplicates from my iPhone. They all end up re-named the same, so it isn't hard to see that there are duplicate masters there.
Any suggestions what to do to keep it from duplicating the iPhone images? Thanks!

same problem here exactly. It's not all the photos, just the same 15 of them everytime. really annoying since I can't see any differences in the metadata. I even deleted the dupes, and deleted all the photos from the iphone, then resynchronized to the aperture folder. It still wants to import those 15 photos when I reconnect. Performing a manual import immediately after they're imported does not cause duplicates though, only when I first connect the iphone.

  • How do I avoid duplicates importing with dvd's?

I just bought my Mac, and love it! I am learning as I go, and so far everything has been very straightforward. I previously had a home PC where I stored all of my photos using Picasa. Short story, all became scrambled (1.000's of pics), and was totally unable to fix it. I do have dvd's with the correct content that I would like to import, but several have duplicate photos. Every time I try, I see duplicates in my library. This would amount to 100's of duplicates. Is there a shortcut? I see that "avoid duplicates" is an option with cameras and other devices, but cannot figure out how this works with DVD's. I am very frustrated, and have spent hours and hours trying to get it right. Could anyone please give me some advice? I would be so appreciative!!! Thank You!!!

Purchase and run Duplicate Annihilator - http://brattoo.com/propaganda/ - on your iPhoto library

  • Duplicate Imports

I created a new itunes account and started importing music from CD's. Songs imported fine for a day without error. Second day tried to import additional music and after each CD import attempt I get a box that says the music is already imported do I want to "replace existing" "don't replace" or "cancel". Canceling does not import any songs on the CD. Replacing and don't replace will run the cycle again taking twice as long to import and when it's done I have duplicate songs for that CD. I have now run five CD's and all are saying the same thing and it's a new CD with new songs. Do not have the songs in the library yet, but the box keeps popping up with replace. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I think the problem is solved although I'm not sure how I did it. I deinstalled itunes again, ran a thorough scan of my system, reinstalled itunes. When I added a CD manually for the first time after the second reinstall a box popped up and asked if I wanted to "automatically import" I clicked this button figuring it was something new and why not. Now it's working. Never saw the box on the first install or the second install after I deinstalled the first time. It was the third reinstall after the system scan that the box popped up. Have no idea...now it's fine. No duplicates and no box asking saying songs are already on there. Don't know if it was a bug my scan fixed or if the box was the trick but it's working like a charm now.
thanks for your advice and help. Even though your ideas didn't work it was helpful to have the feedback.

  • HT1229 The library folder recent imported duplicate photos, how do you removed duplicate imported photos?

I have had photos , photos albums, or folders deleted in the past, and I have somehow recaptured them by a way that is unknown or clear to me.  Anyway I imported them to the library and it is now in the the library folder recent last 12 months imported.  There are thousands photos are shown duplicate, how do I removed or organized the duplicate photos in a shortcut  without going through all of them ( 23, 000 of photos imported), and secure them in a folder/location/area without loosing them again .

If you're seeing these duplicates in the iPhoto window (and not the Finder) you can use these applications to identify and help remove duplicate photos from an iPhoto Library:
    iPhoto Library Manager - $29.95
Duplicate Annihilator - $7.95 - only app able to detect duplicate thumbnail files or faces files when an iPhoto 8 or earlier library has been imported the library.
PhotoSweeper - $9.95 - This app can search by comparing the image's bitmaps or histograms thus finding duplicates with different file names and dates.
DeCloner - $19.95 - can find duplicates in iPhoto Libraries or in folders on the HD.
DupliFinder - $7 - shows which events the photos are in.
iPhoto AppleScript to Remove Duplicates - Free
PhotoDedupo - $4.99 (App Store) -  this app has a "similar" search feature which is like PhotoSweeper's bitmap comparison.  It found all duplicates
Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto - free - was able to recognize the duplicated HDR and normal files from an iPhone shooting in HDR
Some users have reported that PhotoSweeper did the best in finding all of the dups in their library: iphoto has duplicated many photos, how...: Apple Support Communities.
If you have an iPhone and have it set to keep the normal photo when shooting HDR photos the two image files that are created will be duplicates in a manner of speaking (same image) but there are only twp apps that detected the iPhone HDR and normal photos as being duplicates:  PhotoSweeper and Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto.  None of the other apps detected those two files as being duplicates as they look for file name as well as other attributes and the two files from the iPhone have different file names.
iPLM, however, is the best all around iPhoto utility as it can do so much more than just find duplicates.  IMO it's a must have tool if using iPhoto.

  • Not recognising duplicate import

Importing from iPhone: Same iPhone, same MacBook, but different Time Zone and WiFi network. iPhoto wrongly detects old photos already imported as new. Then when imported again, they are immediately recognised as duplicate. Is there any way to "mark" photos as already imported?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    *What's the plist file?*
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • HT4527 duplicate import

I imported my songs fine into itunes from my old computer through home sharing but in duplicate.  What happened?

iTunes will happily import the same song multiple times if you tell it to.
In the Songs view use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items. You need to manually select all but one of each group of repeated items to remove. Don't delete from the hard drive unless you know there really are multiple files instead of multiple references to the same file.
There is also my DeDuper script which automates the process, merges ratings and playcounts and should handle the deletions properly. Please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping. See this thread for background.

  • ITunes Duplicate Import

When choosing "Add Folder to Library" and selecting the folder, the end result is iTunes imports each song twice naming the duplicate with the number 1 at the end of the song file name. My Preferences, Advanced Tab, General Tab has "Copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" checked on. The option "Keep iTunes Music folder organized is checked off". This is how I like it and have always used these settings.
Anyone know why iTunes is duplicating the import, doubling up the files? Thanks.

yeah this is pretty stupid and happening to me too. but i dont think it's strictly related to import settings. most of my files have been duplicated inside the album folders within the main "iTunes music" folder. but some albums dont have duplicate files. i'm not sure why because i only noticed this recently when i saw that my iTunes music folder was seriously bloated (like taking up too much space on my hard drive).
i'd like to know when the fix is coming, including having iTunes coded so that it does not create these double music files! if the files are already in there, don't import/add/make/create another exact copy!
