Alert volume tied to device volume in iOS 8

Hi there,
We just recently upgraded to iOS 8 on my wife's and my phones. My wife has a iPhone 5c, and is showing an unusual problem. Whenever she adjusts the device volume on the phone, her alerts are played back at the same volume. I did numerous tests, checking to see if her switch was set to change the ringer and alerts volume (it is turned off), and after she adjusts the volume, the ringer and alerts volume isn't adjusting along as expected. What ends up happening is when she turns down her device volume, her alerts get very quiet even if her alerts volume is around 90%. I verified the other direction too, where if we turn down the alerts volume and pump up the device volume, the alert is very loud.
This behavior was not the case in iOS 7.1.2, and I'm wondering if it's a bug in her build and if we should try a restore, or if this is a more widespread problem. My iPhone 5s has none of these problems. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you!

I Have just confirmed that this problem occurs at least in two cases: after I use the tts to read screen, and after I listen to podcast.i do have found a temporary solution: in my case I can use a so called soft reset to get back normal. Namely you just hold the power until the power off prompt. Then release the power button and hold home for 10 seconds until the home pops out itself. Accordingly this method terminates all the user generated processes in the background including the process that causes this volume issue. Try it and see if it fixes you problem. It works for me as a temporary solution.

  • Alert volume not dictated by system volume

I have recently updated from a 2nd Gen iPod to a 4th Gen. On my old iPod, the volume dictated the volume of push alerts this seems to not be the case on the new one. The push alerts volume stays the same volume whether the system volume is all the way up or even muted. Why is this the case, and how can I fix this?

This is a problem that both I and a co-worker are experiencing AND we have already verified that the "Change with Buttons" is set to on, have rebooted phones, changed tones, ...etc.
But in my case my alerts from applications, mail, texts, ...etc. are much louder than the system wide volume set for the ring tone and in the case of my co-worker his alerts are much lower in volume than his ringtone.
I am wonder if this might be a small undocumented feature, sometimes known as a bug, might be tied into some other volume setting activity such as adjusting the phone volume during a call?

  • Volume of microphone button inaudible when pressed when overall volume on high and all other sounds/ringer/alert volume working fine! Is there a way to fix this? Was working fine yesterday.

Hello, the volume of my microphone button in text messages is inaudible when pressed, even when my overall volume is on high and all other sounds/ringer/alerts volume are working fine! Is there a way to fix this? Was working fine yesterday. I've tried rebooting and turning Siri on and off, and can't think of what else to do. All googling results in posts about the mic not recording sound loud enough or not working. My mic works just fine; it does the job of recording, but I want the chime to be loud so I don't have to look at the screen to know when I can speak; I like to hear the chime to alert me. Any help is appreciated!

I agree with you about the volume on the phone itself. (I have 3Gs). It needs to be louder. I also wear hearing aids. However I do think there may be something wrong with your phone because when I connect my earbuds (Klipsh) I get very good volume through them. In fact at full volume it's way too loud. I would push for a replacement phone.
FWIW, my daughter (who also wears hearing aids) has trouble hearing her iphone. It appears to have more to do with the speaker not being lined up with the hearing aid's input. Her audiologist pointed out that some current hearing aids support bluetooth, I think we will get those next time we replace her hearing aids.

  • How can I schedule the Ringer and Alerts volume?

On a daily basis, I turn down the Ringer and alerts volume at night so my alarm clock does not wake me up with a super loud alarm. I then move the volume up before going to work so I can hear my phone ring throughout the day. This same routine happens every work day. I was wondering if there's an app that I can use to schedule how this volume goes up or down? kind of like the Do not disturb... any ideas?
    Thanks!

Get an alarm app that has an independent volume and/or raises the volume over a few minutes (most of them will do this).
Also, you can schedule different alarms for different days (such as M-F then weekends) with different sounds.
    I use NightStand -> http://www.thomashuntington.com/iOS/Nightstand_Central.html

  • Is anyone else having a weird bug in MobileMe gallery with volume on iOS 5

Is anyone else having a weird bug in MobileMe gallery with volume on iOS 5? I am having a weird problem, where if I view a video I have uploaded and change the volume, I used the on-screen slider and It changed the volume but it also popped up like I was controlling it from the side. I thought that was kind of weird. If you want to see my problem, there will be a video up on Contemputech.com within a half-hour of me writing this.
    Thanks!

    Hello everyone!
I'm hoping you are no longer having problems with your iPhone visual voice mail.
I can understand how frustrating it is to not be able to access such a great feature on your iPhone.
We did determine  customers not being able  to access Visual Voicemail on their iPhones.
Common errors are "visual voicemail is not available" or it just keeps loading the message.
(In the meantime, you can still review voicemail messages by dialing *86)
This issue should have been resolved for everyone effective 3/2/12.
Please let me know if you are still having problems with iPhone Visual Voicemail by sending me a direct message.
Thanks for your patience with this.

  • Ringer volume not in sync with messaging or other alert volume - Verizon Centro

Hello and I apologize in advance if this is in the wrong forum or has been discussed before.
I have the Verizon Centro and have found that when I adjust the ringer volume using the side keys, the text message and any other alert volume stays at whatever I set it at earlier. So if I had previously set it at 7, I can put the ringer at 1 and the message alert is stuck at 7. I would really like to have these both sync with the side keys. Is this possible?
    Thank you.

  • Ringer Volume vs. Keyboard and Alert Volume

    Hi
I have the 3GS and was wondering if there is a way to keep the ringer volume up high but have the keyboard and alert volume lower?
    Thanks.

It does seem like the alerts are loud relative to the ringer, doesn't it? If you turn up the volume for the ringer, the alerts are too loud. If you turn it down to make the alerts reasonable, the ringer is too soft.

  • E61 Message Alert Volume Setting

Does anyone know how to change to message alert volume? For example, to reduce the volume of the alert for an incoming text message? I can't seem to find this on the phone or in the manual. Thanks in advance for your help.

This is still happening. Anyone have any ideas? I'm desperate and looking for an alternating to a full OS reinstall.

  • Alerts volume...

I just noticed that whenever I do anything like send to trash, or empty the trash even copy files, there's no sound on the desktop. I've gone into the sounds preference, and the alerts volume is off (or down to nothing) so I reset it and it seems to go back to off.
    Anyone else have this problem?

I'm having this EXACT same problem. Its really really annoying. Is there a fix for this??

  • Alert Volume Keeps Setting Itself to 0%

Every hour or two applications like iChat will become silent, and under System Prefs > Sound > Sound Effects, my Alert volume slider will be set to 0.
Does anyone have any ideas why this keeps happening?

That's it! Thanks for the help!
I thought it may be a shortcut to begin with, so I opened up the Sound preferences and hit ctrl + option + space but it would do nothing. The pane has to be closed for it to reset the alert volume.

  • Ringer and Alerts volume erratic

I am now on my third iPhone 4S and it is displaying the same problem that I had with the previous two. The Ringer and Alert volume will just turn itself down for no apparent reason, I have turned off the "Change With Buttons" feature in the Setting so it's not caused by accidently bumping the buttons on the side of the phone, I have heard that Siri may be an issue so I have turned that off. There is no apparent action that causes it, I can turn the volume back up, leave the phone on the table for a couple of hours and re-check it to find that the volume is down again or it may go for a couple of days before it happens, it may happen several times in one day or can go for days beore it happens. It can happen anywhere at any time.
As a matter of interest my wifes iPhone 4S does the same thing. Both phones are set up on different computers
Have anyone else had this issue, are there certain Apps we should stay away from.
Any help would be appreciated, Apple just want to give me a new phone each time which isn't really solving the issue.
    Many thanks
    AJ

I have an iPhone 4 with 5.0.1 with the same problem.
Anyone else experiencing this, or know what's causing it?

  • Yosemite alert volume

I found the alert volume in Yosemite to be lower than in Mavericks or previous version. The lower volume does not affects playing songs or videos, just system alerts. Running the same Retina Mac Book Pro than on Mavericks.
    Any suggestions appreciated.

Thank you for your reply. To clarify, I found that with the alert volume slider at maximum, the output from internal speakers is lower than with Mavericks (output volume slider unchanged). Is there any .pref files where this can be adjusted.

  • I have just purchased a lightning to 30 pin adaptor to use on an iPad mini and a gen5 iPod touch both devices are running iOS 8.1.3 and come up with The error message "this accessory is not supported by this device "

I have just purchased a lightning to 30 pin adaptor to use on an iPad mini and a gen5 iPod touch both devices are running iOS 8.1.3 and come up with The error message "this accessory is not supported by this device "
THis is means they are not charging on a 30 pin cable and the touch won't work in my Apple iPod dock - no audio out or charge. Have re powered both devices to no avail am wondering if the iOS version is the problem
    Help!

If it is a lightning to 30 pin adaptor, and you have a 7th Generation Nano it has to fit the Nano.
This is lightning to 30 pin adapter: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Apple%26%23174%3B---Lightning-to-30-Pin-Adapter/6651 936.p?id=1218803450821&skuId=6651936#tab=overview
    Is this what you bought?
You need to contact Sony and see if they model you have is compatible with the docking adapter. It may not be.

  • I cannot sync notes between iPhone 4S and iPad 2. Both devices are running iOS 5.0.1.

I am unable to sync notes between iPhone 4S and iPad 2. Both devices are running iOS 5.0.1. Any solution?

So, my DNS is comming from my ISP.  It's the same list of IP addresses for all our other devices that are working: 2 PC's 2 Laptops, a PS3 and a WII, an iPhone 3gs running IOS 5.0 and an iPhone 4 running IOS 5.0.
The ONLY two devices that are having issues are my iPhone 3gs running IOS 5.0.1 and my iPad 2 running IOS 5.0.1.
Soooooo,  there is something incompatible with my ISP's DNS and IOS 5.0.1?
