Alerts on Calendar.

Every time I create a new event in Calendar on my mac it adds 3 alerts, the default, which in "none" and email for the 2nd and 3rd alerts, even though I have set the preferences to add none. Any ideas?
It's kind of anoying because I start getting emails for every event... and don't want that.
I tried to edit the event, "erase" the email option and change it to none.. .click done but when i go to the edit option again.... it's there again!
thanks for any help.

Have you tried using iCal in another user space to see if it is a bad preferences file?  You can move the preferences file for your user space by locating the file:
/Users/<your user name>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iCal.plist
quit iCal and move it to the desktop.
Restart iCal to see if the problem is resolved.  If it is not... try moving the following to the desktop:
  /Users/<your user name>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iCal.Alarm.plist
  /Users/<your user name>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iCal.Alarm.plist.lockfile
  /Users/<your user name>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iCal.helper.plist
  /Users/<your user name>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iCal.helper.plist.lockfile
  /Users/<your user name>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iCal.plist.lockfile
  /Users/<your user name>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iCalExternalSync.plist
Once you determine whether the problem resolves you can decide whether to mov any (or all) of these files back.

  • Have problem setting Email alerts for Calendar events. Warning message says I need to set up a card in Contacts with my email. I do but it doesn't recognize it. How do I indicate the email I want alerts sent to?

The system of setting up email alerts for Calendar events worked fine in Snow Leopard but since I upgraded to Mt. Lion Calendar won't let me set email alerts. When I try, I get an error message saying I need to set up a card in Contacts for my email. I have a card set up in Contacts for both of my email addresses but it doesn't recognize them. Perhaps the name I have on the card doesn't match a name that Calendar is looking for. Calendar doesn't seem to have a way in Preferences or elsewhere to indicate the email I want alerts sent to. Any ideas how I can get this system working again? Thanks for your help.

You might want to consider starting a new discussion. Since this one is marked solved, less people are likely to look at it. You can link to this one.
See if another contact is marked as this is my card.

  • How change default alert in Calendar?

    Hello
Because the default sound "Basso" isn't the best alert sound for me I want to change the default sound of Calendar items in Mountain Lion.
I was able to do this in the past, with Lion, but unfortunately this isn't possible anymore I see...
Changing the com.apple.iCal.plist file doesn't help, since this plist file doesn't exist anymore.
And despite what I saw on several websites (see http://www.maclife.com/article/howtos/80_os_x_mountain_lion_tips_and_tricks#slid e-3), I can't change this in Calendar neither (see image here below)
I checked the settings in notification centre, where I can choose to have sound alerts for calendar, or not, but cannot adapt the default sound.
    Can you please help?

    Hi,
here is a solution that is working for me in 10.9.5 (thanks to Wakko from http://iszene.com/thread-165772-post-1927711.html#pid1927711)
    (Make TimeMachine backup)
    Quit calendars
Go to ~/Library/Calendars. Here, for each calendar there is a folder with its UUID (i. e. 9C36543C-8BA1-4264-8E3F-C1BB9FB207BE.calendar). To find out what calendar it is referring to open info.plist within it. Chose the calendar's folder you want to change the alarm sound for. It should also be containging the folder /LocalDefaultAlarms with the two files EventAllDayAlarms.icsalarm and EventTimedAlarms.icsalarm. If it does not open calendars and create a test event in that calendar. Go to 2.
Open EventAllDayAlarms.icsalarm and EventTimedAlarms.icsalarm. Find the line ATTACH;VALUE=URI:basso and change basso to the sound you like. I had to place the sound file in /System/Library/Sounds.
(By the way: If you want to change the default hour for alerts for all day events, change TRIGGER:-PT15H accordingly. PT stands for pacific time, -PT15H means 9 AM (15 hours before beginning of the day).)
    Reboot
EventAllDayAlarms.icsalarm and EventTimedAlarms.icsalarm are re-created and reset to basso each time calendar prefs are saved. So, in order to prevent overwriting your manual settings accidentally, set them to read only.
    Good luck!

  • Receiving double alerts from Calendar ...

    Hi,
I am experincing double email alerts from Calendar.  Not all alerts are doubled though.
As an example, I asked Calendar to send me an email 7 days before my November 5th appointment.  The appointment is sceduled from 4H00PM (16H00) to 5H00PM (17H00).  I received 2 emails ... one at 5H00PM (17H00) and one at 5H21PM (17H21).  See the picture below.
Why am I receiving 2 email alerts ?  Could this be related to the Calendar app on my iPad or my iPhone ?   But then I would receive 3 alerts ...       !!!
    Regards.
    Robert Lespérance

    Hi camilla262,
Thank you for your post and welcome to the forums!
Since syncing will transfer all calendar events as they are on Outlook (or Exchange server), it may not be possible to filter out this information on the phone.
What you can do though, is to disable the calendar notifications on your device.
To turn off all Calendar notifications (sound alerts):
Menu > Calendar > Options > Settings > Calendar alarm tone > None
Let us know if this helps,

  • How can I customize default alerts in Calendar?

I would like Calendar to put a default email alert on every new event. I can do it individually with each event but I can't make it a default.
What I want is for Calendar to email me an alert the day after an event.
I have managed to be able to get Calendar into a two-week view using the terminal, and also adjust my default event legnth using Terminal. But I have been able to find nothing that will allow for me to customize the default alert settings. Any help would be great.
I use Calendar for work, so this may be an odd request but would improve my life drastically!

    Hi,
For customising Required Message u can make use of "requiredMessageDetail" in af:inpuDate.
For Pattern validation message u can go as per Kavitha's advise or
Make use of "messageDetailConvertBoth", "messageDetailConvertDate" or "messageDetailConvertTime" as per ur "type" attribute u specified.

  • Wish there was a snooze function with alerts from calendar on iphone

hey guys, does anyone know of an app that acts like microsoft outlook in the way that, when you set a reminder, and it pops up on your iphone -BUT then gives you the option to snooze for 5mins, 10 mins, 15mins, etc.. until you "dismiss" the reminder? right now the calendar on the iphone doesnt let you snooze it, or maybe im just not doing it right. any help? thanks guys

No. For any calendar app to even generate the first alert, that app would need to be left running constantly since 3rd party apps cannot run in the background. Maybe with 3.0 and push notifications, there will be a 3rd party workaround, but don't hold your breath.
Really, it's up to Apple to implement a snooze function - it would be best if integrated into the Calendar app.

  • 7-day advance alerts in Calendar

Is there any possible way of modifying the Calendar to allow for alerts 1 week before an event? At the moment the maximum alert time available is 2 days before, which is too late for sending birthday cards etc. This seems like such a simple modification -- surely there's a way it could be done! I live in an area with no mobile phone coverage and am sometimes away from email, so reminder apps like ReQall that rely on email or SMS alerts are no good to me -- I need something that will stand alone on the iPhone (rather like I had on my good old Nokia mobile!)

If you sync your iPhone calendar to one of the supported desktop calendars, you can set the alert in that app and it will carry over to the iPhone.

  • How do I turn off temperature alerts in Calendar

Since upgrading to Mavericks, my calendar on every day is displaying the high and low temperature for the city I live in (in fact 3 sets of temperature for the same day!) and also putting up alerts of same in the upper right hand corner of my iMac. I find this most distracting and stupid.
I can't seem to find anything about this in the Calendar help files!  I want to turn it off.
    Any suggestions would be apreciated.

further clarified, yes I move Mail App to DO NOT INCLUDE and the mail icon now appears in that list. Mail is set to Vibrate Only...thanks for trying

  • Alerts for Calendar

    Hi there.
Is it possible to set the alert for another time other than those set out under "Event Alert"
When i put a reminder in my calendar i want to be able to set how far in advance the alert goes off. The choices are very limited, in my opinion, as i usually have my alerts between 2-4 hours. The only options i have are 1 or 2 hours.
Not quite sure what "day of event"? is all about, anybody know?
    Thanks for your help

  • Silencing the default alert in Calendar App (Mountain Lion)

For the newly named Calendar App (was iCal), default alerts behaviour seems to have changed in 10.8 Mountain Lion as compared with iCal in Lion.
Through preferences, it is possible to specify a default alert. I would like to make that alert silent by default (the Basso sound jars). In iCal, before Mountain Lion, this little hack achievd this by making the specified alarm silent: link
Anyone have an equivalent solution for Calendar App in Mountain Lion or experience of using this hack in Mountain Lion?

Does the Alerts tab in your Calendar preferences pane have a "Play a sound" checkbox? If so, will unchecking slience the alerts?
Or, in Notification Center, there's a setting to turn off Calendar sounds.
My issue is that I seem to be missing the "Play a sound" checkbox I described above (see pic for what it *should* look like). Anyone else have this issue?

  • Feature request: Repeat Alert for Calendar

At some apps you are able to set "Repeat Alert", for example: 1 time, 2 times, etc.
    But not for the "Calendar".
I have meetings and I don't want to miss them.
But now there is no possibility to have the alert until I push the home button or slide to stop...
How can I address it to Apple?
    Thank you!

As I can see for example here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2295319?start=0&tstart=0
Since TWO YEARS there is no feedback, no funcionality implemented by Apple
Sad, just sad! How they want to gain business users?
