Alesis 12 Track USB Mixer

Hello everyone, I was before using a USB headset mic to record stuff on my iMac, using it for Skype so I could do shows on talkshoe and also record stuff on garage band.
I recently bought tho, an Alesis 12 Track USB Mixer board, plus a MXL mic.
Problem is none of the audio is actually going into the iMac, like Skype, nor more importantly, Garage Band.
AS per instructions, I changed the audio drivers to the USB AUDIO CODEC like it says on both the Audio in & Audio out and still to no avail...
I feel like I am missing another connection of some sort that would from my mac to the board...
Any help would be VERY much appreciated.

  • Exporting track info from USB mixer

i have recently purchased a Alesis Multimix8 USB mixer board....and it has a direct USB in to my computer....i was told that this particular model works often with Garageband...i was also told that such a model was a plug and play.
when i contacted alesis they said the same thing. so i can only assume it is something i am doing wrong with Garageband. please let me know how i can successfully connect my USB mixer to my computer and actually receive signal.
    thanks,

The easy thing to do, IF you transfered them from the office PC using copy, you still have access to it, and all the music on your PC and this office PC is the same, is to transfer again with the iTunes Library file.
You will transfer the whole "My Music" folder. inside this folder is the "iTunes" folder with its "iTunes Library.itl" file. this file contains all the song info, playlist ratings ectect. more on the iTunes library can be found here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93732
Another helpful artical for you maybe will be the one for transfering iTunes and music to a new PC using your iPod. Some steps you may not need to do, or have to alter abit, But it will give you a general idea on what you need to do to properly transfer things from one PC to another. An iPod is just a "Specailized" external harddrive after all. heres the link if you want to skim over it http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173

  • Audio Input Problems with Alesis MultiMix 8 USB Mixer

I have hooked up an Alesis MultiMix 8 USB mixer and condensor Microphone to my new iMac G5's USB port. When going into the Sound Control Panel my input slider for Audio in is grayed out and states that their are no input devices, (I chose the USB input device instead of internal mic.), yet it does pic up the sound from the mixer and mic. Also, I change my preferences in Garageband to use the USB mixer and Mic, but my Track Editor "wave forms at the bottom af Garageband are barely visible, no matter how loud I set the input volume. I used to have very large wave forms in the track editor when using my Logitech USB mic. The sound is fine when played back but it is a real pain when trying to edit in Garageband when I can barely see the wave forms in the track editor. I have tried this set up on my Powerbook also, with the same results. Can someone please help me with the settings using this mixer so I have GOOD usable wave forms in Garageband. Thanks -Swomper

  • I can't seem to get GB to recognize my Behringer X1222 USB Mixer. It will record, but shouldn't I be able to see and/or select which input channel(s) that I will record from? Can I record more than one channel at a time, and record multi tracks?

I can't seem to get GarageBand to recognize my Behringer X1222 USB Mixer. It will record, but only on the generic "USB Input, without seeing or letting me select the input channel from the mixer. Can't find any drivers from Behringer. How do I getGB to "see" the mixer? Thanks, I'm a newbie to Macs in genreal, and recording...

the x1222 includes a 2 channel audio interface, 2 channels are all you can get from it.
the most you can do is record to 2 tracks at a time; skim this tute to see how:

  • Alesis USB Multimix 16 Channel USB Mixer

Does anyone have any comments about whether an Alesis USB Multimix 16 Channel USB Mixer would be a good buy to use with Logic Express and Garage Band?
I was going to buy a Focusrite Saffire but the Alesis seems to offer much more for about the same cost, such as the ability to record my whole band in one hit.
    Opinions please.
    Thanks

I have the Alesis 16 channel Firewire model and I think it's great. I talked the guy down to $499 at Guitar Center! The Presonus model looks good too, but with the ability to use the Alesis as a mixer, etc., it's a much better buy.

  • Recording with M-Audio Fast Track  USB Audio Interface

New Mac owner and am completely lost. I am wanting to record guitar and vocal tracks into GB and when I plugged in the M-Audio I could see a wave file when after I hit the record button but I couldn't hear anything. I selected it as the default for input and output and turned the monitor on...but am getting zero sound. HELP!

I actually just picked one up and this is what the process is...
I must reiterate the first line... Do not install any of the packaged software as it does not help, or do anything beneficial... just use Garageband.
This is to record a plug in guitar.
IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO LOAD ANY DISCS THAT COME WITH THE DEVICE
    1. Connect M-Audio Fast Track USB to appropriate USB port on computer.
ex. MacBook Pro - use forward port (port furthest away from display)
Also, see note 2 for M-Audio knowledge base, support etc...
    2. Open System Preferences and:
-Select M-Audio Fast Track USB icon
-Select "About" button and note Audio Firmware version
-Select "Updates" to open M-Audio web site
-Select: USB Audio Series<Fast Track USB< MAC OS 10.5.7 (or appropriate operating system)
-Note version number of latest drive and download if
    necessary to update your M-Audio
    - Select "Sound" in Hardware row of System Preferences
-Select "Input" button and select M-Audio Fast Track USB
    - No need to change "Output" regardless of how you want to listen to playback!
    3. Connect guitar to M-Audio box (a pre-amp will boost output, but is not necessary)
    - Make sure button on rear of M-Audio box is selected properly for guitar
    4. Open Garage Band (Do Not open Garage Band prior to connecting M-Audio)
    - Select New Project - Electric Guitar
    5. Open Garage Band Preferences
    - Select "Audio/MIDI" button
    -Audio Output select:
    - "Built-in Output" to use computer's speaker or headphones/speakers connected directly to computer OR
    - "M-Audio Fast Track USB" to listen to headphones/speakers
connected directly to M-Audio box (use Mix knob and Output knob on front of M-Audio box to control ouput if choosing this set-up)
    -Audio Input select:
    -"M-Audio Fast track USB"
    6. Choose an Amp model in Garage Band
    - Double-click picture of amp (this displays rear picture of amp and access to settings)
-Select: Input Source : Mono2(M-Audio Fast Track USB) NOT MONO 1!
of if using Mic and guitar : Stereo2 (M-Audio Fast Track USB)
    7. Record
This saved me from throwing the thing out the window... It works well now!

  • Can't get video production software to recognize USB mixer board

I'm using my new iMac 27" with dual quad Intel i5's to run streaming video to Ustream for a video program. I'm using Wirecast production software. Previously I had an Alesis USB audio mixer, which worked fine until the mixer itself developed a problem. I replaced it with a similar Behringer USB mixer.
When I open the Wirecast video production program, it tells me that it does not recognize the USB video codec. I've posted this problem on the Wirecast forum, but all they can advise me is that there may be some other software that is grabbing hold of the USB video codec before I open Wirecast, and only one piece of software can use the USB video codec at a time.
I know that the signal is getting to the computer via the USB input, as I can hear my microphone tests with headphones plugged into the computer via Garage Band. However, the sound is distorted, a little high and tinny and perhaps doubled.
I also have Ableton Light loaded onto the machine, though of course I do not have it active when I'm running Wirecast.
    Three questions:
    1. How can I make sure that nothing else is trying to use the USB audio codec before I open up Wirecast? Is there anything else that might be causing the problem?
    2. Assuming I have all the effects in Garage Band completely turned off during the mic tests, what could be causing the distortion?
    3. Are there any websites/books, etc, with beginner's information about using audio equipment with the Mac? I know a bit about audio, I used to use tape-based four-trackers to record speeches and I've done some time in serious studios as a performer-- but digital-based recording is fairly new to me.
Many thanks for all help. J.Beau

Log into another user account on your Mac Pro, connect one of your devices via USB and launch iPhoto. Is the device recognized?
If not try booting into Safe Mode, Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode and run the same test.

  • USB Mixer Input signal too weak to record

I have a Peavey USB mixer plugged directly into my macbook. I can play anything at any volume from the computer to the board.. IE can use itunes etc... The problem is I can't get enough signal from the board to Garage Band. I had my drummer all mic'd up and it would play through the pa but when it reached the track in GB the input level never went past about 30-40 percent. I checked the record out level on the board and even at full blast it doesn't improve. I have all the right inputs selected in GB and on the computers preferences... I'm stumped. I'd appreciate any help I can get...
    Thanks

There seems to be issues (Discussed In Apple Support as well on other sites discussing USB 2.0 and power
with Apples USB 2.0 putting out (capacity of 500v and 5ma ) The AC power supply is a great question as well
check Apple Support and USB Help and OSX Help and USB , I came across the above power info
(anf You can check via System Profiler and check USB ports
It noted as well first plugged in may get more than 500v and 5ma and also a issue with USB 2.0 with aluminum body MacBook Pros Macbook (unibody aluminum( aluminum cased Imacs and even aluminum cased wired keyboards (this is in Apple Support and on M-Audio Forums
(though their forums have so many threads per Mac OS System , use search or get a list
(I have a M-Audio Radium 49 MIDI Keyboard and it had similiar data as Apple Support
(which was all news to me!)
    Best of Luck
Both Apple Support and M-Audio recomended a Powered USB 2.0 HUB (plug in type to AC outlet) not a Hub to expand USB ports (odd) and on Macrummors.com (could be .net)
then Forums>Special Interests>Digital Audio.. USB 2.0 powered Hubs have come up alot (even getting Audio Interfaces to work with current Macs (and a Universal Binary Driver) when
no Snow Leopard Driver was available and the certain company begins with a T ends with a m
said that product was discontinued as no SNow Leopard Drivers were available and suggested alternate A/I (any more I would not (Personally I mean) not buy anything that does not have a AC-or DC adapter and rely pnly on USB 2.0 power (its odd and I had one and it worked with OSX 10.3.9 and USB 2.0 (it had no option for external power) and people got it working with a Powered USB 2.0 Hub and with SNow Leopard (I am avoiding that route for now) and will buy a A/I with a Extrenal Power supply as back up (though a Belkin USB 2.0 powered Hub depending on ports is $40.00 or less, Griffin technology makes them plus others (check OWC Other World Computing) doing sales online as macsales.com (I think) type
in OWC and Mac they have very informative info-articles, adapters atc
Griffintechnology.com is great resource as well (with a focus on Ipods ) www.smalldog.com
a Mac reseller in Vermont is great also I get their weekly newsleters one on their onlinE-REal store and Tech-Tails, they helped me out once as I emailed them one odd scenario and bingo, they replied, no cost and it worked !

I do think it may be power from USB 2.0 ? my guess though

  • GragaeBand not recognizing multiple channels on USB mixer

I have the Tascam US-1800, it is a 16 channel USB mixer.  I used it to record muliple tracks at once.  But lately when I plug the mixer into the computer, it only appears as one channel.  If any body else is experiencing simular problems, plese leave a comment!

Simple - use a single task with multiple channels. Surely the answers in all of the related posts said that. The channel list is just dev1/ai0:1.

  • Help using Fast Track USB by M-Audio

My mic is 1/4" .. So I'm plugging it into the guitar line of my Fast Track USB .. and its SOOO quiet. Even if I turn everything volume knob up I can barely hear it (and also there's a lot of static)
Does anyone know how to fix the volume problem? Should I buy an XLR mic? Do you suggest any?
Does anyone know how to fix the static problem? All I'm getting is really quiet volume, but noisy with static..
I thought I bought a decent mic though .. Peavey PV Series for like $40-50. Do I need to invest in a better mic or are there other ways around the volume and static problems.
Is XLR the higher quality for recording with the Fast Track USB?
    Thanks!

you need an xlr connection, same reason as this:

  • M-Audio Fast Track USB and Logic Pro X

I wanted to share this tip in case anyone else has the same issue I had.
I attempted to use the Fast Track USB audio interface with Logic Pro X. It had worked in every version of Garageband since version 3, as well as older versions of Logic Express and Logic Pro, so I assumed it would work out of the box with Logic Pro X.
With it plugged in correctly, and my guitar connected to it, I added a new audio track to my project - ensuring the Fast Track was set as the input device, and input 2 was selected (input 1 is the XLR input on the device) - and enabled playback monitoring. There was no sound. Additionally, the button to enable recording was not present for the track. The same was true for every new track I added that used the Fast Track as the input device.
I tried everything: in Logic Pro X > Preferences > Audio > Devices, I toggled between the built-in input and the Fast Track; I restarted the software; I unplugged and plugged in the Fast Track, and I restarted the system. None of these worked. Then I had an idea.
In the Applications > Utilities folder on my Mac, I opened the Audio MIDI Setup app. This opened the Audio Devices window. I clicked on the plus at the bottom left and chose to Create Aggregate Device. I named this device by double-clicking the name on the left, then on the right I checked Built-in Input and Fast Track, taking note of which inputs belonged to the Fast Track in this new device (for me, inputs 3 and 4).
After restarting Logic Pro X, I chose this new aggregate device as my input device, chose input 4 for recording, and suddenly everything worked correctly.

I contacted Logic Pro X support and they said that they are working on an update.  They were very helpful, so no worries guys.  They know that there is an issue and they are working on it A.S.A.P.  They told me if I needed to continue production to use time machine and go back before the update and restore Logic Pro X (before 10.0.5).
They understand, so give them a break...    They are working as fast and hard as they can.  I talked with one of the programmers directily.   They are probably not getting any sleep over this.

  • Recording woes/m audio fast track usb+logic 9

I'm new to Logic (and recording in general) and I just hooked up an M-Audio Fast Track USB and a condener mic to my 13" MBP, and I'm getting a ton of hiss, low volume, and playback on only one side of my headphones. I've tried all sorts of combinations of input types (mono/stereo) and output types (mono/stereo 1-2) and still have the same problems. I think it's only on one side of my headphones because Mics record in mono if I'm not mistaken, and I have the same problem when I plug my guitar into the guitar input instead of using the mic. is there any way to split it or pan it? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

    Robwoj08 wrote:
and when I select stereo output it automatically switches to output 1-2. Is that normal? If not, is there a way around that?
    thank you!
Why would you want a way around it, there has to be two outputs for stereo, 1=left, 2=right.
Set the mono track's pan control to the middle position.
You're using headphones or speakers plugged into the M-Audio?
Make sure Preferences/Audio "Universal Track Mode" IS selected.
You know, the manual could help you clear up a lot of the basic operation problems you're having.
There's no way asking 1001 questions on here or any other board is going to clear all of this up. My suggestion is to start reading now, whether it be the manuals or books on DAW recording. You have to get an understanding of the basics or you will continuously butt your head against the wall. Once the basics are cleared up it's much easier to figure out problems. The manuals are 10 times better than when I learned the program and are a worthwhile read.

  • No audio input to Garageband from USB mixer

I have a macbook duo core running 10.6.8 and a Behringer X1622 usb mixer. I get no input signal no matter what I do. Ant ideas?

you seem to have set the computer up properly which appears to point to the mixing console as the issue.
are you familiar with mixing consoles? i don't have an x1622 to play with to point out specifics, but things like attenuation have to be up along with the volume fader, any Sends, if the console has them, must be set right...
best bet is to check the owner's manual to make sure you have it actually sending a signal to the computer
