Alesis Firewire MultiMix8 Stereo channel/GB question

I'm not sure if my Alesis Firewire mixer is faulty or not, but whenever I try to record in Garageband with stereo channels 1&2, I can only hear out of the left side of my headphones that are plugged into the mixer. This happens after I record something and play it back. I can hear out of L and R headphones while recording, but not afterwards. When I switch to mono channel 1, I never have this problem, however I would like to be able to record in stereo. A couple times, it seems that when what I have recorded is playing back through only the right side, the left will suddenly cut back in. I have adjusted the panning, however this does nothing to change the playback. I have tested for stereo channels 3 & 4 and the same thing happens. So, I am wondering whether there is a GB issue or a mixer issue. Thanks!!
On another note entirely, I saw that someone had posted that there were new drivers up on the Alesis website for the firewire mixer. What exactly is gained from these new drivers?
Thanks again!

Remember, in the end your separate mono (L/R) or combined stereo channels are going to be bounced out of GB as a stereo file anyway when you export to your chosen format.
I am doing the same thing via Logic and Motu interface. I am taking the two L/R from turntable into an input each, however I choose both those inputs for 1 channel (stereo) for recording.
Either way, the end result will be a stereo file.
Your interface will probably do a better audio conversion than the iMac input - capable of a better and/or higher resolution than the iMac input.
good luck

  • Cloning a Track for the Opposite Stereo Channel

    Hey folks, quick question:
So I did some recording this past weekend, but unfortunately, when I imported it all into GarageBand, I found that the audio had only been recorded into the left stereo channel (meaning if you were wearing headphones, you'd hear everything in the left ear, and nothing in the right). I figure I can probably fix this pretty easily if I just clone the track and set it to the opposite stereo channel. I just don't know how to do this in GB.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
This would be a better tutorial that helps you out with putting a mono sound into stereo(the example here is that there is a guitar audio but it is only played on the left, the user wants to make a stereo).
    Check it our here:
    http://myrightbrain.wordpress.com/2007/09/28/garageband-how-to-create-stereo-tra cks/
It should be pretty straightforward. Let me know if you have any other questions.
    Hope this helps,

  • Alesis USB Multimix 16 Channel USB Mixer

Does anyone have any comments about whether an Alesis USB Multimix 16 Channel USB Mixer would be a good buy to use with Logic Express and Garage Band?
I was going to buy a Focusrite Saffire but the Alesis seems to offer much more for about the same cost, such as the ability to record my whole band in one hit.
    Opinions please.
    Thanks

I have the Alesis 16 channel Firewire model and I think it's great. I talked the guy down to $499 at Guitar Center! The Presonus model looks good too, but with the ability to use the Alesis as a mixer, etc., it's a much better buy.

  • Playing multiple stereo channels out one single mono channel tia sal22

    Greetings All
I have a vi which creates multiple stereo audio signals
in labview 8.6.1 and I would like to play all of the stereo channels out one single Mono channel
is this possible?  I tried setting all the device ID's to the same thing but a lot of clicks and pops occurred.  Basically I'm trying to play and mix all the signals out one mono channel at the same time.
Please note I would like to have each signal that is created played over
the mono channel at the same time.

Just add the arrays if they have the same length. Use the standard add function (like in 2+2=4). Then arrays are added each index is added together
Besides which, my opinion is that Express VIs Carthage must be destroyed deleted
(Sorry no Labview "brag list" so far)

  • Split Stereo Channel Output into Left & Right

Is there a way to split the output of stereo channel strip (in this case, consisting of an EXS24 sampler, with some samples panned hard left) into two mono channels strips, auxes, or outputs (left and right)? For example, in Pro Tools you can select "Track > Split into Mono" to split a stereo track into two mono tracks, and control each resulting track independently. I'm talking about signal path, not splitting a saved AIFF or sound file. Is there a way to do this within Logic?

Route the output to a bus, then create two new aux channels and assign their inputs to that bus. At that point, you'll be getting the full stereo output routed to each of your two new channels. To split left and right, click-hold on the mono/stereo button at the bottom of the aux channels, and select "left" on one and "right" on the other.
    That should do it!

  • How to restore stereo channel on ipod classic?

how do I restore stereo channel on ipod classic?

The iPod is only playing out of one channel (hence one earbud)? I assume you have tried another set of headphones to make sure that your current set is not damaged or faulty?
You can also work through the remaining five 5 R's of troubleshooting to rule out the possibility of a software error/glitch.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
It might also be a good idea to let the iPod's battery fully drain. Then charge it back up and restore it once more in iTunes.
Otherwise, it's likely a hardware issue with the iPod's headphone jack, meaning you'll need to take or send your iPod in for service either via Apple or a third party repair service. Here is Apple's repair pricing.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/
Note that they don't actually repair the device, but exchange it for one of the same generation, model, and capacity.  A third party service will actually replace the damaged part for a little less.  Google "iPod headphone jack repair" and you should get a number of results to work with.

  • Airport express and stereo channel drop-out

I'm running iTunes on my home stereo system through airport express. I can only get one channel of stereo to play. This does not occur with controls such as playing my stereo components(radio receiver, CD player) outside the network. Is this a common or avoidable problem?

I'm also having problems getting both stereo channels to balance equally when running itunes through my home stereo. However, I'm not using airport express. I have a 1/8 inch cable from the headphone jack of my ibook G4 going to a RCA Y splitter (into the stereo receiver). I have only a faint response in my left stereo channel while most of the signal is in the Right channel. All of my cables are plugged in properly, and everything is fine when I use my stereo components, radio and cd player.
Anyone know why this might be happening? I bought the Y splitter from Radio Shack--it's brand new and doesn't seem to be faulty.
    thanks,
    Gabe

  • Horrible audio capturing 2nd stereo channel 12  bit 32,000 kHz

    Hello,
I have DV tapes with 2 stereo channels 12 bit 32,000 kHz. I added a Capture Preset Editor with 16 bit 32,000 kHz 2nd 2 channels.
I captured only the sound of the second 2 channels.
The sound is horrible. At some places there is no sound, at other places noise.
How can I capture this audio with the same quality as when I play the DV tapes on my TV ?
    Thanks,
    Hubert

Use a preset that is 12bit.
Or make one, if one doesn't exist.

  • I don't get second stereo channel when opening iMovie08 XMLfile in FC

When open an XML file from iMovie08 for FC in FCE I only get one audio channel.
The second (stereo) channel is missing.
Examening the XMLfile it seems to generate only one audio channel.
    Has anyone tryed this?
Is there a way to get both stereo channels in the iMovie sequence when opening in FCE?

Does anyone have any other ideas as this is very frustrating.
    Thanks,

  • Recording Microphone through Alesis Firewire Mixer to Logic Pro won't work

I am trying to record a simple vocal performance into Logic Pro 8 through an Alesis Firewire Mixer. The mixer is corresponding with my CPU and serves as the input/output. The mic comes loud and clear through the monitor speakers. I can't figure out the basics of getting this to record into logic, or how to edit the sample once I have it.
This should be the easiest thing to do and I don't see it layed out in detail anywhere in the manual.
    Somebody Help!

Okay i have the input in Logic set to "input 1" and the microphone going into Input 1 on the Alesis but no microphone levels are appearing in Logic, though the microphone IS coming through the speakers. (the Alesis is corresponding with the computer, playing tunes and such)

  • ITouch stereo channels bleeding

I have a problem with my iTouch's output jack's stereo channels bleeding into each other.  I currently use a 1st gen iPod for playing backing tracks for a band.  It works perfectly. I have mp3 tracks that have the click panned hard left and the backing track panned hard right.  No problems.  So I got the iTouch to do the same.  The tracks bleed into each other during playing, which cannot happen when using them as backing tracks.  I've had 2 itouchs now (a 2nd gen and now a 4th gen) and both are doing it.  Anyone had this problem?  Thanks.

You could try bouncing the tracks down in another format, some times WAV files don't bleed.
In settings on the Touch there may be a stereo enhancer function that is turned on, try turning that off.

  • Alesis Firewire... Is this uncommon?

    Hello,
I have an Alesis MultiMix8 Firewire Mixer. I have had little to no problem running Adobe Audition on my computer through a PCI soundcard. Although, when I plug in my firewire mixer, I tend to have more problems. Crashing problems. I have found that the more tracks I have and the more effects, the worse it runs. But ONLY when I use the firewire mixer.
Is it common for processing power to change when I use the firewire? I wasn't sure how to search for something like this. I have found alot on crashing issues and blue screens, but nothing about problem with and without other peripherals.
    Thanks for any help/suggestions.
    ~Bill
BTW, This is what I am running.
    AA3.0
    Windows XP Pro
    Alesis MultiMix8 Firewire
3GB Ram (Actually 4GB but xp only lets me use 3GB)
    Intel Core2 Quad
    *************EDIT************
Also, In further trial and error, I found that in most cases it doesn't matter how many tracks and effects. It will still randomly give me a blue screen. I found a blog online about fixing an issue similar to this. It said that he fixed his problem by uninstalling microsoft intellipoint and bonjour service. I only found the bojour service, and uninstalled it. I thought I may have helped but still no. I have a feeling this is mostly a problem between my specific mixer and audition.
I've run cubase SX3 with the firewire mixer with no crashing before. And I've run AA3.0 without the firewire mixer with no crashing. So I think its the combination of AA3.0 and my firewire mixer.
Oh, another note, I've tried ASIO4ALL, and I cannot get it to notice all 8 of my firewire inputs. It only recognizes 2, main L, main R. So sad...

Intel-based Macs are also able to boot from USB drives, but with its higher sustained transfer rate FW is still a better option.
I don't know if you are looking for a recommendation, but I really like the Mercury Elite Pro drives from OWC. You can either buy the drives pre-built or just an enclosure and add your own drive. I have a 500GB Seagate drive in one of their enclosures and have it partitioned to clone my BlackBook and G5 iMac to and have a little extra space left over for miscellaneous stuff.
I use SuperDuper to maintain those clones and I highy recommend it to anyone who asks - and even those who don't - LOL!

  • [Other 865 Series] MSI 865PE Neo2-V and Dual Channel Mode Question

Hello, I have a quick question regarding dual channel mode with my current motherboard. I have an MSI 865PE Neo2-V and am wondering if it is possible to enable dual channel mode while having three RAM modules inserted in the motherboard.
For example, I currently have one 512MB PC3200 module in my computer. If I purchase another 512MB module and run them in dual channel mode, will it be possible to buy a 1GB module or another size module, and still have all three slots run in dual channel mode? Or is dual channel only operational on this motherboard if only two of the three slots are occupied?
    Thanks.

Dual channel requires an even number of sticks.

  • Stereo audio export question

Original video shot with two lav mics in stereo. Edited the piece in stereo and exported to YouTube. We discovered that if we view the YouTube piece on a computer that has stereo speakers, it sounds good. If viewed without stereo speakers, one of the audio voice channels is missing and the music channel is missing. Can you help me out?

The simplest way is to select all the audio in the timeline and press Control-period. Not sure what this will do to you stereo music without seeing the sequence, but it will center all the audio.

  • Can you combine both tracks of a stereo channel into one new stereo channel that has both channels?

This is an old 3/4 inch newsroom tape where they put one side of the story on the left channel and the SOF part on the right channel, so it bounces back and forth as you listen. I captured it in one stereo track but I don't see anyway to combine them on a new stereo master track that would have both the original tracks blended together in sort of a mono version but still coming out of both speakers.  Premiere Pro CC.

    I like option 3.
