Alesis multimix 16 firewire...

Well we are using the before said interface with express 7 and osx 10.4. The computer is a macbook pro and we are frustrated out the butt. The problem is this my friends: It's plugged in. The computer "sees" the interface, and we are able to use the core audio controls to alter settings on the interface. Even the logic express recognizes the device as Alesis 1394. But when we try to record on the program, through the interface NO SOUND!! a few tricky things are this: Alesis released the drivers for the intel version a week ago. We are unfamiliar with this mixer, we've had it for about two weeks. any help would be much appreciated.

Just to clairify, you need Logic Express 7.2.1 when using a intel based Mac. If you search around the forum you'll notice previous versions of Logic function rather poorly on these machines due to the fact that they are not Universal Binaries. I mention this only because your post said you had "Logic Express 7".

  • Adobe Audition CS6 and Alesis Multimix 8 Firewire choppy playback

I recorded a whole podcast using both Adobe Audition CS6 and Alesis Multimix 8 Firewire, and I originally played it back it was fine.  Now after a week I play it back in Adobe Audition and the dialogue is choppy and repeating itself constantly every second.   When I export it in a multitrack mixdown as a WAV file it still does the same choppy repeating thing.  Has anyone else run into this problem who has a fix?
    Thanks!

I don't use any Alesis products but have heard rumours in another forum that they're having some driver issues.
Maybe as an experiment you could export to a wave file and try playing that through your internal sound card rather than the Multimix.  If playback is clean when not involving the Multimix that may suggest the problem lies in the Alesis gear.  If the skipping is still there then something is likely going on within Audition.

  • Adobe Audition CS6 and Alesis Multimix 8 Firewire multitrack problem

I have the Alesis Multimix 8 Firewire mixer and am using Adobe Audition CS6 for my recording program.
I'm trying to connect 4 microphones via XLR and have them run in individual channels in Audition but I can't get more than 2 to show up on the program even though I have 3 plugged in right now. On top of that, I have to run input 1 and input 2 as mono channels instead of stereo channels to get it to work at all.
I'm looking to do a Podcast with my set up, is there a better program to use to record and edit? Or am I missing a driver for Audition or the Multi Mix?
    Thanks!

Well, first the easy bit.  Microphones ARE mono devices so using mono channels is absolutely correct.
Beyond that, you mention drivers.  There are no special drivers for Audition but it is worth going to http://www.alesis.com/multimix8firewire to see if there are any driver updates for your mixer.
You don't mention what Operating System you're using but whichever it is, you should go to the Audio Setup page for Windows (i.e. not in Audition) and make sure it's detecting all the channels from the Alesis properly.  You may have to set the Alesis as your default audio device for this.
On the Edit/Preferences/Audio Hardware Setup menu in Audition, make sure you have the proper device type selected--I'd guess ASIO for a start.  Make sure your Alesis is selected as the default hardware.
On the Edit/Preferences/Audio Channel Mapping menu, make sure you can see all the channels from your Alesis.
Finally, on the Multitrack screen, set the Input for each track to be the appropriate channel from the Alesis.  If you're going to do this regularly, I recommend you get everything set up then save it as a Session template.
And I can't think of anything better than Audition for what you want to do...that's why it's used in thousands of radio stations around the world!

  • Alesis Multimix 8 Firewire Mixer

I preordered an Alesis Multimix 8 Firewire mixer when they were still going to be $250. They have finally been released, and are now $500. Luckily for me, the vendor I bought it from (SamAsh.com) honored the price I pre-ordered it at, and I got a $500 mixer for $250.
It came in today, and I can't wait to try it out tonight! According to the box, it supports 10 simultaneous channels in and 2 out via FireWire. I probably won't need more than three, but I don't mind the extra. :P

Well, unfortunately I don't know much about all this audio stuff. :-P
It has two firewire ports on the back, and apparently a certain one has to be used (as the first one didn't actually work.) These ports aren't labelled in any way.
I installed the driver from the CD (which requires OSX 10.3 or higher), and after a reboot I was working. GarageBand supports all 10 channels individually (mono) or will pair them as stereo tracks in order (i.e. 1-2, 3-4, 5-6).
The coolest thing I could tell from playing around with it was that I'm almost unable to make it clip. I can scream into it with the volume turned to 95%, and it doesn't cut anything off... it just maxes out in the yellow area on the mixer.
The setup I got working was one mic with hardware reverb, one mic with no effects, my guitar, and my keyboard (although my keyboard was connected separately via USB.) I recorded some with all tracks going at once. Everything recorded fine, although the microphones were noticibly quieter on playback. When I stopped the recording, my G5 iMac had to stop and catch up... there was a slight pause while it did who knows what.
I noticed that the unit was getting very warm. I suppose this is normal (and they don't call it "firewire" for nothing, huh?)

  • Alesis Multimix 12 Firewire

    Hello everyone,
I'd appreciate anyone's input on this. What do you think of the Alesis Multimix line, particularly the Alesis Multimix 12 Firewire? I would like to use with Garageband and Logic Express (newest versions) on my old G4 Powerbook (867Mhz).
I'm considering this becuase it is the same price as my first choice, the Presonus Firebox.
I would like to use the 4 pre-amp channels to record drums.
    Thanks!

I have been using the multimix 12 for about a year and hasrun incredibly smooth for me and is great for monitoring and multitrack audio... awesome choice

  • Alesis MultiMix 8 Firewire Problems

I recently bought a one of these interfaces and whenever I try and install the drivers from the cd it gave me, it doesn't start the installation process. Instead it spits out the cd without doing anything. I don't know what to do.

    Hey there!
I experienced the same thing last week with the installation CD of my Alesis Multimix 8. Strangely, the CD did load on my friend's Mac Mini Duo and we decided to transfer the CD's files to my MBP via Bluetooth.
BUT, you can go checkout the Alesis website and find the latest Multimix 8 drivers for MAC intel: http://www.alesis.com/index.php?id=58,62,0,0,1,0
As for installing Cubase LE, well you might have to find an alternative...
So you are not the only one to have that cd spitting problem with the MBP.

  • Alesis multimix 16 firewire and garageband

hello, im still trying to decide which rack mountable audio interface best suits my needs and that doubles as a stand alone mixer. i know from the many positive posts that presonus firepod is a quality product. i do however prefer the control face of the alesis. has anyone had any experience using an alesis firewire mixer and garageband? ease of use and recording quailty are important too. ill post a link to the mixer here:
    http://www.alesis.com/product.php?id=94
    thank you for any info

doh! i guess ill be prepared for a software upgrade that supports 96k should i do logic express someday. thanx
If you need more then CD quality then you will need another software package. But along with 96k capability come a much more intense work environment and a big learning curve. If your end product will be used in itunes, burn a demo cd or put on the web then garageband will be more then fine.

  • Help needed in getting my Alesis Multimix Firewire 16 to work with Audition CS6

I've just bought a new Fujitsu AH 532 Lifebook Laptop with a Windows 8, 64 bit OS. I've installed my Adobe Audition CS6 on it and I've connected my Alesis Multimix 16 Firewire to it via my StarTech 34mm Firewire Express Card which has a Texas Instrument Chipset. AA CS6 sees the mixer but only allows a stereo track input but it also does not want to record. I've attached some images of the audio channel mapping, audio hardware setup, and also the multitrack recording view. Also I'm using the Alesis Windows 7 driver for the mixer. You will also see that I cannot select the sample rate in the audio hardware setup panel, the sample rate is stuck on zero. In the multitrack view there's no signal when I press the record button.
All suggestions and help will be highly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Donovan.

It's probably nothing but this is from the Windows Dev Center
"In Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Millennium Edition (Me), and Windows 98, audio drivers conform to the Windows Driver Model (WDM) and make use of the kernel streaming (KS) components, which operate in kernel mode and are part of the operating system."
I don't see any mention of Windows 8 - maybe nothing?
Just a thought - why not try the asio4all driver just to see if it makes a difference?
You can install it and then select that driver in Audition - you can always switch back

  • Alesis Multimix !6 Firewire with logic express 7

    Hi,
I just recently bought the alesis multimix 16 firewire and i wish to record using logic express 7. I cannot figure out how to set it up so i can record.I am fairly new to the whole logic software......If someone could help me that would be great

    Hi Mike,
Logic is not a toy so you should read at least the getting started manual to understand how the program is structured.
About your question, I don't know if the multimix is straightly recognized or if a driver from Alesis is required.
Pleae give me more details about your problem and I'll be glad to help you.
    cheers

  • Alesis Multimix FIREWIRE question

I have an alesis multimix 12 FIREWIRE which is FIREWIRE 400.  it was working fine on my PC.  now I have a new iMAC and it only has 1 firewire 800 port.  I bought a 400 to 800 firewire cable and tested the cable with a FIREWIRE 400 hard drive and it works fine.  HOWEVER, when I plug it into the ALESIS MULTIMIX FIREWIRE, it doesnt work.  it doesnt show up in system profile or in the alesis multimix control panel.  I could only find one discussion about it which said somethng about not getting enough power to the device when you use s 800 to 400 cable.  However, there was no solution.  is there anything I can do to get this working or am I stuck and need to invest in something new (Thanks Apple)
    .. Please help ... Dave

If I use the 400 to 800 cable for the hard drive itself, the hard drive works. I  the hard drive only has one regular sized firewire 400 port and one mini firewore port.  I took a cable that goes from regular firewire 400 to mini firewire 400 and it didnt see the alesis multimix.  I called ALESIS and they tell me it should work but couldnt tell me how .  they told me they need to investigate and will get back to me.  Any other ideas?

  • Alesis MultiMix problems

Hey all, I am using an Alesis MultiMix 8 (FireWire) with my G5 and I can't seem to get it to work properly. The unit worked well for a month or two, then I left the country for 6 months and unhooked everything. Yesterday I reconnected the kit, ran all the software updates, and the mixer is screwy. The mixer seems to hijack the internal volume control in the system and crank it up to 100%, which causes massive feedback even at the lowest control room volume setting on the mixer. I remember clearly that before I was able to adjust the system volume using the keyboard AND the control room volume on the mixer. Anyone have any ideas here? All firmware is up to date - all I can think is that the OSX update must have made something go screwy...

Nope, that isn't it. I have the control room outs going to the monitors and am not using zero latency monitoring, so the feedback loop shouldn't be there. I played with it a bit more last night and the problem was partly solved by changing the input on my receiver from Phono to Video - maybe the phono in doesn't expect a line input and gives it a little pre-amp or gain. Don't know - it sounds better now, but still not ideal. Thanks, though.

  • Alesis Mulitimix 12 Firewire

Can anybody confirm that the Alesis Multimix 12 Firewire mixer works with a Mac Pro?
Given up waiting for M-Audio to release drivers, and I need to get a replacement ASAP, and I like the idea of the Alesis being an all-in-one solution.
    Andy.

Andy, glad you are happy with the Multimix 16. It's nice to know when these things work OK. I agree with you that M-Audio are losing the respect of a few people here. Their kit is good quality and the prices make it accessible to many, but so often it's the software drivers that let them down. The number of updates they put out tells me their labs should improve QC! Happy music making.

  • Alesis MultimMix 12 Firewire

Does anyone use the Alesis MultiMix 12 Firewire with Logic Express? I am just a home user and not looking for anything professional. I was looking at USB but think the extra money for Firewire will be worth it.
Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts. Thanks!

Note, however, at this stage, that the Multimix is
not compatible with the Intel line of Macs.
Just a little bit of an update concerning the Multimix compatibility with new Macs --
I have made enquiries to Alesis concerning the release of Universal drivers, and while the tech support is extremely responsive and friendly, their tone concerning Intel Mac support is very tentative. It is unclear whether Alesis Multimix will support new Mac machines at all.
At this stage, I cannot but advise to steer clear from this hardware until the Intel compatibility issue is resolved. Unfortunately, the return period on my unit is over already, which means that I have ended up with a piece of hardware that's pretty much antique already.
Any hardcore PPC Mac users interested in a pre-owned unit?
