Alias addresses for POP account

I just received my new IMac with 10.4.10.
I had 10.3.9 up until this week. On that version I had under Mail accounts 2 addresses, each with its own password and name. I had, and still have, only one Service Provider and only one Incoming server and only one Outgoing server.
While in 10.3.9 I entered these 2 addresses as different accounts I now, supposedly, must enter the second address as an alias, which I did.
Apple's Mail Help says I should then be able to choose under which address I want to send a message : true, it works.
Apple's Mail Help says : "When Mail retrieves messages, it displays them in a single mailbox" : That does not work. I do not receive any messages from the second, alias address.
Originally I thought it was because each address had its own password. I changed the alias password to be the same as the main address password. It still does not work.
What else should I be doing ?

I tried but, like I have read other users saying already, since the second address would also be a POP account, the system tells me I already have a POP account and prevents me from setting up another one. Or, I do not know how to bypass this message from Apple Mail.
The addresses are like [email protected] and [email protected] (same one. The user names were different but then I changed them to be the same because I could not, as per Mail set up have 2 different usernames (I guess because I cannot, always as per Mail, have 2 POP accounts...
I am lost and confused!
Thank you for providing input

  • How to use a ip address for pop & smtp server names when creating a new account

My xp PC is on a lan behind a Freebsd os [IE. flavor of unix] which is not running a dns server. The only way to reach it is by ip address. I have configured the account with a ip address for pop & smtp. When I create and sent a email, Thunderbird shows a window saying it trying to connect and after 10 seconds it goes away with out showing the status window. There is no email in the sent folder. Is it possible to do this ???? I can accomplish this using ms/outlook so I know it is possible.

I haven't tried this in years, but could you give this server a name and enter that into TB
Then in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts you add that name and ip

  • Adding multiple e-mail alias addresses to an account

Can someone please tell me how to add another e-mail address to my Mail account. I have tried using info from the Mail Help file, both "adding another account" and "adding multiple e-mail alias addresses to an account". Each time when I try to send a test message to or from the added e-mail address, I get the same message: "Cannot send message using the server mail.bellsouth.net. Use the Pop-up menu below to try a different outgoing mail server". The only pop-up is smtp .Mac.
I have tried both methods shown in the HELP file and get the same message. I would really appreciate your help.

Are you trying to add a second email account to Mail, or just add a second "(apparently) from" address to an existing account?
If the former, we need to know some more detail, like:
    (1) who is the existing account, .mac or bellsouth?
    (2) Which are you trying to add, .mac or bellsouth?
    (3) I assume your ISP is Bell South?
    (4) What are the names of the smtp servers and what are their respective smtp server port numbers?
    (5) Are either of them using SSL on the smtp server?
    (6) I don't remember whether Tiger Mail has it or not, but in Leopard Mail, on the menu bar under "Window" there is a selection "Connection Doctor." If applicable to Tiger Mail, what does it say about your connections?
    (7) Which account can you send mail through and which one can't you send mail through?
    (8) Are your receiving mail okay through either or both accounts? Which one(s)?
Now if you are trying to add a second "(apparently) from" address to an existing account, in Mail Prefs > Accounts > mail account > Email Address, just add a second email address separated by a comma like so:
       [email protected], [email protected]
You could have an issue with bellsouth or .mac requiring the domain name in the apparently from email address to match the domain name of the smtp mail server.

  • Can i use more than one email address for one account

I created one user account. I would like to create and use three separate email address for this one account, which will all show under one profile. Is that possible, and if so, is it free to do so? Thank you.

You can add more identities to a single profile.
Go to Tools -> Account Settings -> <your account> and click the Manage Identities button on the bottom right. That's the place where you can add additional e-mail addresses for your account.

  • I can't set up my email account on my ipod touch.  It keeps saying that I have to use a valid email address for this account

I can't set up my email on my ipod touch.  It keeps saying I have to use a valid email address for this account.  Help!

    Hi Annie,
Make sure when you are setting up your e-mail account that you enter in your entire e-mail address.  If you have a Yahoo (includes any e-mail account associated with Yahoo), G-mail, or Aol after entering in your password it should automatically set up.  Any other e-mail address you will have to manually set the account up.

  • How to set one default "reply-to" email address for multiple accounts

I have an iPhone 3GS. I have my own domain name which I want to use as my primary "public" email address. It is forwarded from the hosting ISP to my ATT/Yahoo email address. I also have a Gmail account. I would like recipients to see that it comes from my domain ([email protected]), but since it is actually going through ATT/Yahoo, I can only see how to set the "From" field to either my ATT/Yahoo account or my Gmail account addresses. Is this even possible?
Essentially, I don't directly access "[email protected]", but that's where I want it to appear to come from, regardless of where it actually originated.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Mark

You get e-mails just fine, but do you have rights to log into the e-mail server at myfirstandlastname.com? If you can do that (check with your hosting ISP to find out if they will let you), then you can just set up the iPhone to use that e-mail server to send your mail. It's possible to set up an iPhone IMAP account to get mail from gmail, but use a separate non-gmail SMTP server to send outgoing mail, all within the same iPhone e-mail account.
If you can get this working, then you won't need to mess with reply-to headers. Your e-mail will not only look like it got sent from myfirstandlastname.com -- it actually WILL be sent from there and all replies will automatically go there and then be forwarded as usual to your ATT/Yahoo address. No one will know that ATT/Yahoo is involved, and both your sent and received e-mail will show up in the same single e-mail account on the iPhone.
I do this all the time with my e-mail. My account is really at gmail, but the e-mail address says it came from mycollege.edu. My old college offers me an alumni forwarding-for-life account. They only forward mail, though; they don't hold it. They do also run an SMTP server, though, and that's what I use to make my outgoing e-mail look as if it came from mycollege.edu.

  • Keeps prompting me for POP account password, despite using Keychain

I have three pop accounts setup in Mail. Ever since I upgraded to 10.5.6 I've had a problem where Mail will frequently ask for the pop account password, even though I told it to keep the password safe in the Keychain. What on earth is causing this?
Sometimes I'll see a new email come into the inbox, only to then be prompted with the password. What good is asking for a password after the email has already arrived? This is really weird!
    Thanks.

Apple seem to be ignoring this and every other thread like it... as I have the same problem and there seems to be no solution offered.

  • Use mail app for POP account only?

This may be a stupid question, but my .mac trial has recently expired, and I do not wish to pay for an entire .mac account because I only enjoy using the e-mail portion of it. I have set up my gmail account so that the e-mail gets forwarded to my mail, but is there any way to send e-mails from my mail application using my POP account now that my .mac is expired?

I'm not sure I understand you rquestions - It sounds like you want to discontinue your .Mac account but continue to use your .Mac email - I do not believe that that is an option
If you are switching to gmail (or for that matter adding gmail) you can set up Apple Mail to handle your gmail account either as a POP account ( http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=13275&topic=12810 ) or an IMAP account ( http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=81379&topic=1281 ) - gmail help has instructions for this set up and many others as well - a great place to look

  • TS3276 Mail set up for Pop accounts

    Hello,
I just purchased my first MacBook Air and am trying to set my POP email account up in Mail.  I can recieve email just fine, but am not able to send email at all.  I have triple checked my entries and they match what I am using on both my PC and my iPhone 5 - which I can send email from both of these.
    I am using OS X 10.9.1 - any suggestions?

Hmmm.  All I can say is check for a fourth time.
POP account as you describe,  but IMAP is the more common for synching accounts between machines.
Try deleting that mail account  on the Mac and renenter all your info as new if you have to.

  • Sender email address for Customer Account Statement

    Dear Experts,
Here's an issue that my colleague and I are currently facing:-
The Customer Account Statements that are sent via email in the transaction F.27 show that the sender email address is not equals the Accounting Clerk (KNB1-BUSAB) maintained in customer master data (FD03). Instead, the sender email address here is the email address of the person executing the transaction F.27.
I've looked through some programs (RFKORK00 and RFKORD10), and the variant used (SAPMA). Unfortunately, we still could not determine the root cause for this issue. What should we be looking into, and how can we resolve this issue too?
Any inputs would be much appreciated. Thanks.
    Regards,
    Deborah

    Hi Ajay,
Thanks for your input. Really appreciate it. Would you please enlighten me further?
"The accounting clerk’s name is then printed in any correspondence with the customers or vendors."
The statement above leads me to think that consequently, the accounting clerk's email address should be the sender email address for the mail that is sent to the customer.
Also, when I hit the 'F1' key on the Accounting Clerk (in transactions F.27 or FD03), the following texts are shown:-
    "Accounting clerk
Identification code for the accounting clerk.
The name of the accounting clerk defined by this identification code can be used in the payment program for correspondence and reporting (for example, open item lists)."
Again, this leads me to think that the sender email address should be the accounting clerk's email.
    P/S:
The customer is saying that this should not happen, so my colleague and I are just investigating this issue further.
    Regards,
    Deborah

  • Remove copy from server 'when moved from inbox' option for POP accounts

Is this option supposed to work in all cases? (or could it be buggy?:-)
I can't get it to work with my POP account: messages are still left on the POP server, even after when they are moved from the inbox to another local mailbox on my Mac...
Manual selective removal of messages from the server does work (thru the 'Get info' window of the 'Gear' menu at bottom of Mailboxes pane), so this does seem to be a problem with the POP server.
Or do I by any chance misinterpret the meaning of this option?
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Mail version 2.1 (752/752.2)

You've interpreted correctly how it should work, as long as you take the following considerations into account:
    1. Messages aren't supposed to be removed from the server immediately, but rather the next time Mail connects to the POP server.
    2. It may have no effect on messages that had already been downloaded prior to you choosing that option.
And, yes, it sometimes doesn't work as expected. It could be buggy or Mail might have problems communicating with the server.

  • You Can't Create A Mail Folder For POP Accounts?

I can't believe that I am unable to create a folder for a POP email account so that I can file and manage my email on the iPhone 3g! Which rocket scientist at Apple made this decision? What happend to the "manage email on iPhone" Use Case?
So, how do i use the iPhone for email if all i can do is load the last 200 emails into the inbox?

You cannot have POP3 mailboxes on the iPhone. You can have IMAP mailboxes but you must create them on another client such as your desktop.
Even if you could create POP3 mailboxes there would be no way to sync them with your desktop. the POP3 protocol does not support mailboxes; it was developed at a time when having mail on your desktop was unusual, and no one at the time ever thought you would have more than one computer to read mail with.
One workaround is to get a free gmail account and set it to read your ISP mail. You can then set up the iPhone to sync with gmail via IMAP.

  • Using another from address for Gmail account in Mac OSX Lion's Mail app

    Hi,
On my iPhone I've set up gmail as an Exchange accout and when I send an e-mail, my from address appears to be the one I select as default address in gmail preferences.
Is there any way to achieve this in Mac OSX Lion's mail application?

Hmmm, not sure what is going on, but from the Mail log, neither of those IPs have a name associated with them, 1st one is in Netherlands, 2nd one is iin Africa!???

  • How do I change the "reply to" address for an account?

When I try to change my reply to address it shows "recipients will reply to this other address" and I can't change it. I get this even when I try to add a new identity. Thanks.

''re: When I try to change my reply to address it shows "recipients will reply to this other address" and I can't change it.''
So the 'Reply-to Address' is empty. What do you mean by 'I can't change it' ?
You do not say what you did.
Tools > Account Settings for the mail account
    or
right click on mail account name in Folder Pane and select 'Settings'
Reply-to-Address: 'recipients will reply to this other address' will be in a greyed font.
You put the mouse cursor in this text box and over write with the email address you want to use.
click on 'OK' to save changes.
You can also get access to the various options and text boxes by using the 'Tab' key on your keyboard.
Right click on mail account name in Folder Pane and select 'Settings'
Then press the 'Tab' key to move the focus to different sections, it should start with the focus on the mail account name and after pressing 'Tab' it will move to 'account actions', press again to move to 'Account Name', then 'Your Name:' then 'Email Address' then 'Reply-to-Address' so that you can type the email address.
