Alias Combination Property - Hyperion Essbase Application Manager

Hi,
I want to know how the Alias Combination Property works in Hyperion Essbase Application Manager. I tried substituting 2 different alias names for 2 different member combinations. But this did not work with the version of Hyperion essbase Application Manager(Release 6.5.7.0) I use. If anyone has ever used this property and found that this is really working, can you please explain me better?

I think it got dropped before 6.5.7.
Maybe 6.0. Perhaps 5.0. I last saw it in 4.x. I always thought it was really cool and never understood why it got removed. It must be the only function that ever got removed from Essbase -- the feature set of which reminds me of the barnacle clad bottom of a boat (but in a good way).
I recently had to build a SmartView VBA add-in to do a very poor imitation of Alias Combinations. It would have been better for all around if it were just there.

Yes u can import data from Essbase to Bi .. there is built in function to do that in Bi
version :Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition 10.1.3.4 or latest
once u have installed and opened ur .rpd file u can see 3 layers Physical, bmm, and presentationlayer
go to file >import>multidimensional
u get popup windows where u need to input u informations
Provider tye: Essbase
Essbase server: localhost(if ur using same pc )
username: admin
password: admin password
then if ur ceredentcails are correct u can login in essbase and u get all application which u ahve in ur essbase server
chose which one u need and then import

Application Manager Compatibility with Hyperion Essbase

Also, if you use certain features in Essbase that are easy to add in EAS, you end up with outline verification problems in AppMgr, including problems in member calcs. We are on 7.1.3, but some of our financial users do still have AppMgr 6.5.4. Our IT team is using EAS 7.1.5, but resorted to AppMgr for a few tasks where our instalation of EAS 7.1.3 was still buggy, primarily in security. I'd recommend using EAS as much as possible. We're running it on Websphere and SQLServer on our test server and our web server; A couple of us also run a Tomcat/MySQL installation on our desktops in case of server difficulties.

Hyperion Essbase on 64-bit and Other application are on 32-bit

I am going to Install Hyperion Essbase on AIX (Version: 6.1) on 64-bit and Other Hyperion application like EAS,EIS, calc manager, Foundation services, Financial report and planning on windows 2008 SP2 with 32-Bit.
I future any connectivity issue will occur with two different bit type or there will no issue.
Please guide me here, above combination is fine or not.

Unable to Obtain a Connection to Hyperion Essbase from Planning Application

Dear All,
I have installed FDM+Foundation+HFM+Essbase+Planning 11.1.1.3 (Tomcat)
I have stacked with the following problem:
when I try to open my data form, I am getting
“Unable to obtain a connection to Hyperion Essbase. If this problem persists, please contact your administrator”
Validate Database Connection & Validate Essbase Connection are successful throw Manage Data Source menu
Essbase user has admin privileges
In EAS console I can make myself sure, that my application is running
Data Form is valid (verified in Preview screen in Data Form wizard)
Can somebody help me with it?

Summary
Symptoms
When attempting to connect to Hyperion Planning as the admin user, the following error occurs:
Unable to obtain a connection to Hyperion Essbase. If the problem persists, please contact your administrator'
Cause
Hyperion Planning web accesses the application by making a connection to the Planning metadata in the relational repository (via Relational repository settings) and also to Essbase via the datasource settings.
Any Essbase connection issues indicate problems with the Essbase settings in the datasource or are related to the Essbase server.
Solution
- Edit the datasource via the Configuration Utility.
- Test the Essbase connection and make sure that the user used to make the connection is valid and has admin rights to Essbase.
- Restart the Hyperion Planning service once the Essbase user has been given the correct access rights.
- Login to the Essbase Administration Services (EAS) console and right click on the Essbase server name node -> Refresh security from Shared Services
- Expand the applications node (under the Essbase server name node) and check that there is an application with exactly the same name as the Planning application.
Note: Go to section 'manually recreating a Planning application in Hyperion Essbase, if the Planning application is missing in the above step.
- Login to the application in Hyperion Planning web.
Manually recreating a Planning application in Essbase:
- Login to the EAS console as admin (the Essbase user used by admin must have Essbase administrator rights)
- Go to Essbase servers -> your Essbase server name -> right click on applications -> Create application -> Using Block Storage and enter the exact Hyperion Planning Application name then click on ok.
Note: The above step will only create the application shell without the databases.
- Login to the application in Hyperion Planning web as admin and go to Administration menu -> Manage Database -> select database and filters (to create filter access to Essbase) and Refresh (refresh will also recreate the databases if they don't exist)

App manager has been replaced with Essbase Administrative Services in version 7. You can still install App Manager from version 6.5 to work with Essbase version 7, but you will not have access to new features in v7 like meta data filters

After Upgrade from 11.1.1.3 to 11.1.2.2 Essbase Application Not Shown in Calculation Manager

I have upgraded from EPM 11.1.1.3 to 11.1.2.2 and now want to import Business Rules to Calculation Manager for use with Essbase.
However I cannot see my Essbase Application in Calculation Manager; (only the provided sample applications are shown in the hierarchy)
How do I check my configuration? How does Calculation Manager connect to Essbase and find my app?
I haven't knowingly altered Essbase server/port details during the upgrade as I opted not to re-host.

Yes the EAS schema was upgraded by the configurator.
I ran upgrade_ps2.sh (unix) without changing any configuration just to see what it does and (after I had to manually create the directory structure for the log file) it created an HBRrules.xml file successfully fo the first time under EPMData/planning (The missing log file directory structure may have been why the configurator didn't create the HBrrules.xml file at the first attempt during the Planning upgrade)
Anyway not entirely sure where upgrade_ps2.sh got its rules information but the file it created was very similar to the HBR file exported from EAS prior to starting the upgrade.
I attempted a 'migrate' again with Calculation Manager but still get the "No objects were found in the document for importing", i.e. kind of back to square one.
I really need to understand what is Calc Managers problem?
Q .What server should the upgrade_ps2.sh be run on? Planning or Shared Services? (I did it in on both)
Q. How can I get Calc Manager to tell me more with logging or tracing somehow?
Any other suggestions gratefully received

One more think i want to ask you is i don't have hyperion planning as Technology in topology maneger in my ODI.
Though, in my oracledi\lib\scripts\xml directory, i have TECH_HyperionPlanning.xml
So,how to import technology to have this OR I need something else for this....

Hyperion Application manager closes when a database outline is accessed.

All,
I use Essbase 6.5.3 version. When I try to access a database outline through application manager, the application manager closes. It freezes for few seconds before getting closed. kindly let me know why this happens and also help me with a solution.

Hello -
I have seen this problem happen in the outlines which are huge as it seems that the client system from where you are opening the outline doesn't seem to have enough memmory to allocate to app manager.
You may want to try opening the outline in the "view" mode only to see if that does the trick.
As Glen already asked - Is this only for one outline or all the other outlines as well? Has it ever worked before for that outline?
You may also want to try to open the outline and leave it for sometime. Let this be the only program using the system resources, close all others.

Trouble Combining PDF's, launching Acrobat and Adobe Application Manager 10x Pro

Hi I’ve been having some troubles with the following problems, originally the programs worked fine, yet now they don’t. Help would be very much appreciated
- cannot combine files with acrobat 10 x pro it says "Adobe PDF creation cannot continue because Acrobat is not activated" yet I have activated it. This is when I print combining sheets and when I combine PDF's manually.
- cannot open Acrobat 10 x pro, it does not launch
- cannot open Adobe Application Manager it comes up with an error message "we have encountered some problems..." it then tries to update but fails.

finaly figured out how
I went into google to find a link to the application update manager which sent me back to the adobe website after downloading a fresh version
I discovered in my downloads I still had a setup file for creative suite
- set up click adobe acrobat and it should add the missing files and works like a gem now

*Please note that I registered the IRUN class's main function as a global function instead of local to an application. I consistently end up screwing applications once I try using this java function in multiple applications.*

I managed to fix this problem. The batch script which was being called from the Java class did not have an exit statement at the end. I included that and the problem with application crashing got resolved. It looks like maybe the script is locked in memory or something like that.
The exact reason as to how this would affect .esm file in the database is still not clear to me. Any clarifications would be great.

EPMA batch client with Essbase application - does not update aliases

Hello,
We are using EPMA 11.1.2.1 for managing outlines for Essbase applications.
Changing aliases in EPMA and launching manually redeploy from Workspace, with flag "Full Deploy" change correctly the aliases in Essbase..
Using the EPMA batch client to redeploy the Essbase application deletes all aliases in Essbase outline.
Someone knows how to solve this problem or what am I doing wrong in the EPMA script?

Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
From your description it seems that you are facing issue only with windows 8\8.1. So firstly suggest you to check with application support team, whether they have whole support for application with newer version. Also check once with application support team
regarding this issue.
This issue occurs because the local taskbar does not receive the EVENT_OBJECT_NAMECHANGE event from the system due to a timing issue. The EVENT_OBJECT_NAMECHANGE is needed to update the taskbar title information.

The taskbar may not show the application name correctly when using a Terminal Server RemoteApp

I do not think wired will even work with the 6.x runtimes. Your only real option is to put off the move untill you can manage the a6.5 upgrade.

Thank you for your reply..sorry for the incomplete information..This is windows XP OS .
Yes after running the installtool.bat , i am not getting any screen.
What I did was ..after downloading the software, i manually copied all the folders that are available in assemblies folder(essbase , planning , foundation dowloads etc) in to systeminstaller -> assemblies folder and I hit the installtool. As you said now I will unzip all the zip and I will keep it in one home directory and I will try...Please correct me If I am wrong...
